GOP City Council Candidate Joseph Hayon and Third Party Social Conservative Mayoral Hopeful Erick Salgado do Grand Tour of Borough Park for most of Sunday afternoon

Enthusiastic bunches of Orthodox Jewish residents greeted Hayon and Salgado at major stops arranged by Hayon

Brief competition with sound car for Lhota failed to interfere with Hayon's and Salgado's five hour event in heart of 44th Council District

Joseph Hayon, the Republican social conservative activist running against Democrat-Conservative Party incumbent David Greenfield to be the City Council representative in the 44th Council District, invaded the center of Greenfield’s stronghold in Borough Park, supported by Hayon’s chosen candidate to be Mayor of New York City, the School Choice line nominee Reverend Erick Salgado, like Hayon a strong social conservative. For almost five hours, Hayon and Salgado road on a towed float up and down the major commercial avenues and thoroughfares of the almost exclusively Orthodox Jewish neighborhood during its busiest social and commercial hours for families, the target group of their joint campaigning on this October Sunday.

They made many stops along the ad hoc route and were joined by small knots of young people and their parents, many of whom were taking pictures of the candidates and the children around the float. The principal stops were at the Vaccarro Playground in the park at Eighteenth Avenue and 56th Street where the candidates met a wide variety of those enjoying the park; and at the Masbia food operation on 14th Avenue and 41st Street where Hayon and Salgado greeted and spoke to some Borough Park residents in need and those who generously were there helping to provide for them.

One of the special “spontaneous” stops was made near a small crowd that Hayon had chosen as the place to meet and introduce Rabbi David Cohen to Mr. Salgado. After a short conversation with Rabbi Cohen, the Rabbi’s son joined Hayon and Salgado on the float as it moved around that part of the Borough Park Community.

The trailer carrying the candidates was escorted by a sound truck that in addition to proclaiming their names around the area, repeatedly mentioned three positions espoused by both of the candidates. The speakers blasted out messages in Yiddish, and occasionally English, that urged voting for Hayon and Salgado, and also explained how Republican Hayon and School Choice Party Candidate Salgado were the only candidates running together in 2013 that fully supported: 1) the right to practice religious circumcision rituals without government interference; 2) school vouchers for parents of students in religious schools; and 3) Torah values – in particular that lawful marriage should only refer to traditional marriage following biblical teaching.

The tour of the traditional Orthodox Jewish neighborhood was not without incident. For a short time, a sound car, which apparently was connected to the Lhota campaign, followed the motorcade of the Hayon and Salgado vehicles and would intermittently play it’s “Vote for Lhota” message. However, the Hayon and Salgado sound operation only needed to compete with the unwanted addition to their motorcade for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Interestingly, one of the participants actually thought that the competing messages seemed to excite the bystanders, who seemed to be more interested and receptive where the Hayon and Salgado parade appeared to be bigger and somewhat noisier.

Joe Lhota will hurt all of the GOP council candidates below him on the ballot. Hayon is the smartest candidate for going with Salgado.

Oh yeah, and I just bought a bridge that connects 2 boroughs!!!

UPDATE: THE “UNKNOWN ALLIES AND CO-BELLIGERENTS AGAINST DAVID GREENFIELD” ISSUE

The Joseph Hayon Campaign for City Council in the 44th Counc. Dist. is getting a boost from sources not directly associated with the campaign. Various anti-David Greenfield activists have actually put together pamphlets in Yiddish slamming Greenfield; and they have distributed them to many synagogues and schools in large parts of Hayon’s council district (See Scribd download to see an image of the current item
[http://www.scribd.com/doc/179697877/David-Greenfield-The-Traitor-2]). Since the flyer is entitled “David-Greenfield-The-Traitor-2” one might assume that there was also a “David-Greenfield-The-Traitor-1,” but I don’t know anything about that.

UPDATE: HAYON AND SALGADO RESUME MOTORCADE ON TUESDAY EVENING

Using the same flatbed trailer as the one used during their surprise tour of Borough Park business avenues on Sunday, School Choice Line Mayoral Candidate Erick Salgado and Republican 44th Council. District Candidate Joseph Hayon took their motor tour largely through the residential streets of the Midwood and Graves End sections of the 44th CD on Tuesday evening. The vehicles which included a soundtruck moved slowly enough that many individuals and families were able to step out their front doors and wave at the two social conservative candidates moving through the socially conservative neighborhoods.

At a few spots men even came up to Joseph Hayon and asked, "Are you Hayon ?" It was a good guess since the float only contained the name of the mayoral candidate. Oh, they also wished him well....

UPDATE: THE "HAYON SCORES POINTS ON THE BENSONHURST BEAN" EDITION

The Bensonhurst Bean reported last week about Councilman David Greenfield’s recent defense of Hasidic store owners, who are being targeted by the Human Rights Commission for demanding customers dress modestly. Now, thanks to complaints by City Council Candidate Joseph Hayon, Ned Berke and the Bean are telling the rest of the story --- that Greenfield has no explanation as to why he failed to try to help of the largely Orthodox business owners seven or eight months sooner ( See "Greenfield Opponent Says Councilman Is Late To Party On Modesty Lawsuit" by Ned Berke, 10-29-13, Bensonhurst Bean Blog [http://www.bensonhurstbean.com/2013/10/greenfield-opponent-says-councilman-is-late-to-party-on-modesty-laws]).

UPDATE: THE “BELLS ARE RINGING” EDITION

In response to some buzz about Councilman David Greenfield’s Office not handling constituent problems, the Republican 44th Council District candidate, Joseph Hayon, published his own number soliciting reports of bad service.

As a result, several people have called Hayon with complaints about Greenfield’s mishandling of problems that had been reported to Greenfield’s Office. According to Hayon, “There are many more problems that have not been handled by Greenfield’s Office than any of the papers or the blogs have reported before this campaign....”

Hayon then said they are very typical of what is in the blog “Perpetual VoiCES” (See “NYC Councilman Gives Woman the Run-Around” by Pete Appel, 10/30/13 [http://perpetualvoices.com/?p=1298]). That blog told the story of Molly Ell (Molly Hirsch) of Boro Park. Ms. Ell (Hirsch) claims that her efforts to obtain school vouchers for her children had been delayed because of lost paperwork. She then went to seek assistance from Greenfield’s Office, who took down all of the information, including details of the lost paperwork. After three months and a personal visit with Councilman Greenfield, he assured Ms. Ell (Hirsch) that it would be handled immediately. After another trip to Greenfield’s Office, Molly Ell (Hirsch) received a response that “[it]seems like they’re missing a document!!”; the response of “Molly” was this was expressed to and reported in Perpetual Voices, as follows: “Really????!!!!! That’s initially why I contacted you, I was told u people have connections!!!! What was done theses 3 months?? Had I knows I would never wait so long!! You people have caused me not to have vouchers yet! I naively thought every day that help will come through! I want to know why I was ignored for 3 months, I never even got a return call.”
