Politicker's Barkan and Campbell say "Marty Golden Staffer [Quaglione] ‘Strongly Considering’ Council Campaign"

According an item in Politicker today, John Quaglione, who's described as the deputy chief of staff and press secretary for GOP State Sen. Marty Golden, is “strongly considering” challenging Councilman Vincent Gentile, the popular Bay Ridge Democrat who has represented Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and lower Bensonhurst  as State Senator or Councilman for a very long time.

Insiders see this as a snarky bit of pay-back by State Senator Martin Golden for Vinnie G's doing a lot of stumping for Andrew Gounardes last fall. Political junkies are looking forward to this race, if it finally does shape-up, as a measure of Golden's and the Brooklyn GOP's last best hope for regaining control over Bay Ridge. As far back as 2008, John Quaglione had  been mentioned as considering a run for the Council in 2009, but then the GOP went with Bob Capano instead..

John Quaglione  was born and raised in Bay Ridge and is a 1997 graduate of the Adelphi Academy. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from American University in Washington, D.C.; and during the  time he was in college, he worked  on Capitol Hill as an intern with Congressman Vito Fossella, and worked with Tim Russert & Co. on  NBC's “Meet the Press”.

He is currently,  the "District Manager" and "Press Secretary" for State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District). He says that he's worked with Senator Golden on many issues effecting the quality of life of the community including education and transportation, in addition to being Golden's  spokesperson, speechwriter. and manager of Golden's District Office.

Quaglione and Golden go way back. He served on Marty Golden's staff when Golden was a member of the New York City Council.

John Quaglione's wife, Kerry, works as a teacher in PS-102 on Ridge Boulevard in Bay Ridge; and they have a daughter, Natalie Grace..
