As was predicted here days ago, Adolfo Carrion’s chances of securing the Republican nod for mayor are virtually over, because Carrion simply has been unable to secure the support of three of NYC’s five Republican county chairmen.
It has also been confirmed by a report in Crains that Brooklyn’s Craig Eaton and Jay Savino of the Bronx, have privately committed to support Republican grocery billionaire John Catsimatidis if Mr. Carrión’s bid fails.

Although all the GOP leaders acknowledge that Joseph Lhota has the best credentials to be mayor, John Catsimatidis has more money to give to the Republican county organizations that support his candidacy. Mr. Catsimatidis is reported to have a net worth of some $3 billion and could easily pour very large amounts of money into a mayoral run. In addition to a Mother Jones report that Catsimatidis would officially announce his candidacy on Tuesday (see http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2013/01/john-catsimatidis-official-mayor-new-york-candidate ), the Catsimatidis campaign confirmed that the announcement will be Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. on the steps of City Hall.

You were right as rain on your less than clarion Carrion call, which if heeded would have diminished expectations for Alfonso from the get-go. Sometimes, if you are too far ahead of the pack, people disregard it as not yet relevant, as in "let's wait and see..." Then, when it all plays out, everybody forgets what you said about it in the first place.
But late kudos to you from me on your early Carrion call !
Since Smith wasn't backed by KCRP Chairman Eaton, I never paid him any mind. Besides he's a Queens (the un-Brooklyn) guy.
The word that jumped out of your linked material was "mischief." Whether Mr. Smith goes to Albany, or City Hall, or even Washington, there always seems to be something mischievous afoot.
