Preliminary GOP Primary Coverage

No Bang   —   No Bucks   —   No Chance !  The Republican Primary for Mayor was a frenetic farcical affair showing all the world everything that is wrong with the GOP in New York City  —  three candidates solidly from the RINO wing of the party fighting overly hard to get TEA PARTY voters, as well as routine right-leaning Republicans

The 2013 Kings County-wide GOP organizing fight looks like a mixed bag    Nussbaum and Potter look like winners in 46th A.D.

In the GOP Mayoral Race  —   Joe Lhota is celebrating a better than 50% victory, but though not wounded, he is likely  warn down, with a long way to go to November. John Catsimatidis seemed shaken, and he was not prepared to announce what he intended to do next. Ol’ Mc Donald seemed like a nice man; but “Dag nabbit...!” he doesn’t seem to be any better as a candidate for mayor than he was as a speller of the word “COW” ( “...EIEIO”)

In the Brooklyn GOP  —   the Golden-RFC-Lhota tri-fecta is still viable, but has yet to show that it is ready to thrive:  Golden looks like he’s still got it with most Republicans in Bay Ridge; “Republicans for Change” are in the hunt and looking strong headed towards the convention; and Lhota, celebrating a better than a 50% victory, came through the GOP primary in okay shape.

After the Big Cats' defeat, the Kings County Republican Organization of County Leader Eaton is now in need of intensive care; the big question is whether he can rally the troops for the County Convention, or is all that’s left going to be a “Last Hoorah” for Craig ?

“Republicans for Change” do look like they took at least one very big hit.  In the 46th AD  —   the team of Lucretia Regina-Potter and Marcus Nussbaum, supported by the LaGuardia Club and a new independent coalition of Brighton Beach Republicans, as well as some key support by Eaton’s KCRP, may well have unseated the long-time GOP leadership in the Bay Ridge/ Dyker Heights section of the 46th AD of Clorinada Annarummo and the Seergy Club. Unverified reports of the State Committee Races in the 46th indicate the following results:

Race: Republican Female State Committee 46th AD

Regina-Potter, Lucretia            —   1,130      57.6 %
Annarummo, Clorinda              —      831     42.4 %

Race: Republican Male State Committee 46th AD

Nussbaum, Marcus                 —   1,085       51.8 %
Sarta, Dominick                      —   1,008       48.2 %

BACKFILL: Craig Eaton's wing of the Brooklyn GOP did some major heavy lifting for John Catsimatidis. And with 2-3% of the vote to be tallied in Brooklyn, Eaton may still be able to deliver his borough to the man who largely ignored all kinds of political wisdom with a "Vanity Campaign." With about 98% of the vote counted, Catsimatidis trailed Lhota in Lhota's home borough by only about sixty votes, 6,357 to 6,298.

Gale, that was big.....Eaton's Brooklyn Cats Team lost by only s few votes - should send a message to Lhota that Golden is not the Golden boy in Brooklyn. Golden couldnt pull out a major win for Lhota in his own County....

UPDATE: RAZOR"S EDGE EDITION

A key factor for the Lhota campaign for mayor going forward is whether his Democratic Party opponent avoids a run-off --- or whether his opponent is yet to be decided.

The most recent numbers that I've seen this morning show Bill deBlasio with 40.19% of the vote. That means a complete and definitive count must be made and is absolutely necessary to determine whether the magical, mystical and apparently mercurial 40% threshold has been attained by Mr. "D".

Lol. Anonymous what are you talking about?! Craig Eaton is a loser. A loss is a loss. He had all the resources of a billionaire at his disposal and still lost. The County Chairman failed to deliver a victory to Cats - the operative word being failed. It's comical that the only thing Eaton has to celebrate is Lucretia winning!

Galewyn is spot on musing that Eaton is now in need of intensive care. Eaton's up against a wall and he has to hope that his billionaire will still bank roll his operation, oh and his fate may also partially rest in the hands of Lucretia (?!!??) - whom he has publicly despised, obsessed over, and ridiculed in a derogatory manner for years.

You have to love karma.

Really Lucretia has the most comfortable spot in all this. She can kick back and be entertained at this point, because now that's she is GOP queen of the 46th, the truth is she wins no matter who wins the Chairman fight.

UPDATE: CATSIMATIDIS BEATS LHOTA THROUGHOUT GOLDEN STRONGHOLDS IN STATE SENATE DISTRICT

Republican Chairman Craig Eaton should be TELLING the GOP Mayoral Candidate Joe Lhota which side is really up in Brooklyn. An ED by ED analysis of the GOP Mayoral Primary results in Brooklyn will show that Eaton's KCRP operation was more effective in delivering votes throughout Brooklyn's few GOP strongholds to its endorsed candidate, John Catsimatidis, than the Golden-FRC-Lhota was able to generate in the same area for the city-wide winner Joe Lhota.

Golden and his operatives will argue that it was a heavy Greek vote for the "Big Cat." But, even if that explanation were somewhat true in Bay Ridge, it doesn't explain large margins elsewhere in Southwest Brooklyn.

Another thing, what do these results say about Golden's re-election prospects ?

Gale - what EDs are you referencing? Here's the ED by ED results http://www.nytimes.com/projects/elections/2013/nyc-primary/mayor/map.html

It seems pretty clear Lhota decisively won Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights. Cats won Brighton Beach. And neither seemed to have a particular turnout advantage with those wins.

The ED by ED can be picked apart and analyzed, but, not for nothin, for voters this wasn't a proxy fight. Voter's weren't thinking, my vote for Lhota is a vote for Marty & my vote for Cats is a vote for Eaton. The whole thing is an exercise simply in winning. What it says is that Golden understands the parameters of the contests he finds himself in, and then wins. As much as it seems you don't like Senator Golden, I would suggest considering the possibility that this (esp being a GOP Primary) is turning into a referendum on Eaton, not Senator Golden.

Anonymous at 8:38 am and 9:14am is very angry - he is almost SCREAMING like Timmy Cockrane. But the reality is, the votes speak for themselves and Golden did not provide the numbers for Lhota that he was expected to - You see, Lhota, with the numbers he obtained in Brooklyn and Staten Island, will need to make inroads in those boros in order to win in November - Lhota will need 100% of the reps and 30% of the dems, inds, and liberals to win - how can he possibly do that if Golden cant even bring the Brooklyn reps out to vote for him in the primary. Anonymous, you can spin it any way you want, but Golden did not win yesterday - Eaton won his CC fights, Lucretia, with the help of Eaton CRUSHED Lucretia - I want to SCREAM that Timmy - and Cats almost won Brooklyn - and still may - when the final results are in. That sounds like WIN, WIN, WIN....

Lucretia won her primary. And it's insulting to her proven abilities to suggest that Eaton in any way put her over the top. Two years ago, she beat Eaton's candidates. This is her second electoral win in a contested State Committee race, and she earned it.

Pretty good comment, Anonymous ... 9:27 AM"; however, you caused a major stumble in the flow with "...Lucretia, with the help of Eaton CRUSHED Lucretia...." Please Note: "Lucretia" is not "Clorinda" and "Clorinda" is not "Lucretia"....

Btw, what would you say if "Anonymous ... 8:38 AM" and "Anonymous ... 9:14 AM" or either one of them is not "Timmy" ... Cochrane ?

Anonymous said...

By that measure it would be insulting to suggest that anybody in any way put her over the top. Besides, nobody said that anybody put her over the top; nor was anybody taking credit for her victory or that of Marcus Nussbaum. In politics, nobody needs to go looking very far for insults; there's plenty of real insults out there.

If what you say is true, I stand corrected. I misspoke/mis-wrote In my comment above "UPDATE: CATSIMATIDIS BEATS LHOTA THROUGHOUT GOLDEN STRONGHOLDS IN STATE SENATE DISTRICT"; my text "An ED by ED analysis..." was really an AD by AD analysis.

Good catch, sorry for the imprecision.

[UPDATE TO MY ORIGINAL REPLY: The nifty NY Times interactive map was lots of fun. Lhota did win in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, but it was far from "decisive" --- Catsimatidis won about 1/4 of the EDs; Lhota about half and the rest were even splits. In the rest of Southwest Brooklyn Catsimatidis won with Lhota winning a good number of EDs and several even splits.]

Lhota-Catsimatidis: all of Brooklyn --- 58 votes apart, 99% counted !

The real message: under 15,000 GOP primary voters....

Let's stop finding fault and start finding voters.

We will find and grow voters once Tim Cochrane becomes chairman! Just tell us when the convention so the age of darkness can finally end!
