GOP Mayoral Candidate Joe Lhota, GOP State Senator Martin Golden and More About Party Unity in the Brooklyn GOP — “Friday The 13th” — the 13th Configuration

By now, Joe Lhota and Marty Golden must be thinking that the only thing missing on this “Friday the 13th”  is Jason Voorhees   —   Somebody says that Marty Golden is making phone calls and quoting Lhota and Guiliani to vote for Timothy Cochrane for Chairman of the Kings County GOP

My “Friday the 13th” began with a call from one of my Baker Street Irregulars calling to say that State Senator Marty Golden had called one of the active members of the Brooklyn GOP to talk —   things went down hill very fast after that. Some calls to my usual sources showed that MG had made a few calls around since the primary.

I waited around through the mid afternoon, because I had been promised a great lead on a Joe Lhota– Brooklyn GOP item; however, that didn’t come through. Instead, another of the Baker Streeters called with word of another sighting of the Great White Whale  —  this time in the form of a Marty Golden phone call with a direct solicitation to vote for Timothy Cochrane as County Leader at the upcoming GOP County Convention. In that phone call, State Senator Martin Golden was quoted as saying a vote for Cochrane should be forthcoming by that delegate to the convention, because that’s what Joe Lhota and Rudy Giuliani wanted the Brooklyn delegates to do. I posted some comments about all this below (in comments to my Friday the 13th post, "Did you get your call from State Senator Martin Golden yet?" ), and I said I’d try to get to the bottom of it.

Since that call had come from one of my more prolific and reliable Baker Street Irregulars, and I expected both pushback and blowback form various sources, I followed-up and emailed the Lhota campaign for confirmation. After several hours waiting, I have gotten no response. Well, there’s always tomorrow... oops it is tomorrow, Saturday the 14th  —  but isn't that the thirteenth hour and yet another configuration of "Friday the 13th" !

Lhota should have stayed out of this race...it is a no-win situation for him....but, Marty, has now placed Lhota in a very precarious situation.....if Lhota backs either candidate he risks losing even more ground than he has already lost...Lhota needs every republican and others, to win. It is clear from the Cats numbers that Eaton and his team hold sway over almost 50% of the republicans in Brooklyn....not good for Lhota....

Gale, has the county convention been called yet?

I have not heard that it has -- as far as I know the BOE hasn't certified the contested County Committee winners yet.

Team Eaton holds sway over a lot more republicans in Brooklyn than the mayora results would indicate.

Team Golden is very nervous that a candidate that got blown out in NYC (cats) who actually lives in NYC managed to virtually tie Brooklyn native and Golden-backed Lhota.

That's what the numbers really show. Tean Eaton managed to elevate a terrible candidate to a tie against the preferred candidate of the Cons and Brooklyn's only elected Republican.

Somebody on this blog mentioned Jeremy Kassar’s article comparing Joe Lhota and Catsimatidis; it was entitled “Common Sense: Joe Lhota”; and it appeared about two weeks ago in a Brooklyn Neighborhood Newspaper. Kassar gave a whole bunch of reasons why Lhota was going to win big. Lhota didn’t WIN BIG; either in New York City; and especially Brooklyn where, Golden and Grimm supported him; or Staten Island, where Grimm and Molinari supported him. Did Kassar explain what happened to his guys Lhota, Grimm and Molinari on Staten Island; and Lhota, Golden and Grimm in Brooklyn?

As I recall Giuliani supported Cuomo against Pataki. As I recall Pataki won. What''s Rudy's support worth?

UPDATE: MORE THAN TWO DAYS AND COUNTING EDITION

THERE IS STILL NO RESPONSE FROM THE LHOTA CAMPAIGN — NEITHER A CONFIRMATION NOR OTHER INFORMATION HAS BEEN FORTHCOMING ABOUT LHOTA'S POSSIBLE ENDORSEMENT OF TIMOTHY COCHRANE AND/OR ANY RESPONSE ABOUT GOLDEN'S ALLEGED STATEMENT THAT LHOTA AND GIULIANI WANT COCHRANE TO BE KINGS COUNTY LEADER OF THE GOP....

Of course all of this might be because the Lhota Campaign only has a skeleton staff working over the weekend; and getting ahead of a story like this is not important enough for Lhota and his press people to do over the weekend.

Let's see what happens next.
