That means the especially rightly named "Judge Merchan" is a lot closer to being a "Judge Merchant" than he is to being a real "Supreme Court Justice" --- in other words --- that he is a judge whose bargain and sale deed is held by the powers that be in the NYS Unified Court System and not by "The People of the State of New York" in whose name he will be sitting while he presides over the Alvin Bragg inspired Trump mess in court today

Long and short --- Acting Supreme Court Justice Juan Manuel Merchan is just a puppet on a string in this charade of a legal proceeding --- he's not a real actor at all, much less a star player. And no matter how much he pretends, everything that the very low level appointed judge Merchan does today is completely dictated by those pulling his strings.
Make no mistake --- those puppet strings go all the way to Washington, D.C., maybe even to the White House..... (Who knows, if the little puppet, Juan Manuel from Bogata, Columbia, plays his cards right, he'll get appointed to the Federal bench and become a real little boy like Pinocchio. )

Just a few hours after he had been arraigned in Manhattan, former President Donald Trump returned to his home at Mar-a-Lago and proclaimed that he has been and continues to be unjustly persecuted by a series of investigations, inquisitions, and now an unprecedented and flimsy prosecution.
Earlier this evening Trump told a select gathering of his staunchest supporters that --- "They can’t beat us at the ballot box, so they try to beat us through the law.... We are a nation in decline, and now these radical left lunatics want to interfere in elections by using law enforcement.... We can’t let that happen."
Trump specifically called out all of those hounds who he sees as coming after him --- including not only Alvin Bragg and Judge Merchan in the case in NYC, but also the NYS AG, and local and Federal prosecutors --- mentioning each by name, along with exactly what they were doing wrong in Trump's well informed opinion.
The ornate hall at Ma-a-Lago was full of luminaries of the MAGA movement, such as the past Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake, voter fraud evangelist and litigation fund raiser Mike Lindell, and Members of Congress Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, and Ronny Jackson. All of those folks welcomed the Trump message and how he delivered it. More important, that particular message, as delivered, will resonate with many Americans at this time; and to even more if it is repeated in exactly the same way over the next several months.

The alleged violation of NYS Election Law, aka the "crime" that Bragg says Trump is guilty of and tried to conceal is only a misdemeanor if it could be properly pleaded and proven by the facts in this case. Unfortunately for Bragg's indictment, there was no conspiracy to promote any candidacy in NY State by unlawful means. None of what Cohen, Pecker and Trump did or agreed to do was unlawful.

Yes, the Bragg indictement of Trump does appear to rely on a NYS statute that makes what Trump is alleged to have done as his predicate "crime" in the Bragg indictement something that is only a misdemeanor under the state's election law --- "Any two or more persons who conspire to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means and which conspiracy is acted upon by one or more of the parties thereto, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor (See NY State Elec. Law § 17-152).
However, that is only a small part of what is wrong with Bragg's indictemnt of Trump. The indictment, as it now stands, along with Bragg's accompanying "Statement of Facts" is a complete mockery of the American legal system of criminal law and criminal procedure, and the U.S. Constitutional safeguards applied thereto.
The charges brought against Trump by Manhattan DA Bragg are exactly as dumb and weak as had been predicted through reporting based upon the unlawful leaks from Bragg's office. The charges as written should not stand up to any challenge to their legal and constitutional sufficiency --- and they will not be, unless perhaps it might be through the good graces of Juan Mauel Merchan of Columbia (the country, not the Ivy League law school), and any other NYS Justice or Judge that wants to get in on the action of piling on Trump, instead of faithfully applying the law to the facts.
Bragg's pleading failures in the Trump indictement include, but are not limited to, the following: 1) that a variety of the events intrinsic to the charges brought against Trump occured outside the applicable statute(s) of limitations of the crimes charged and/or implied; 2) two NY State statutes that created "misdemeanors" were cobbled together only by Bragg's tortured interpretations and reasoning to create a notional "felony"; 3) if "conspiracy" is mentioned or implied as an intrinsic element of DA Bragg's necessary underlying "crime" --- he did not provide a clear statement of the nature and level of that alleged "conspiracy" under the criminal laws in and for the State of New York, which clearly delineate six levels of conspiracy, each containing different necessary elements.
