Look at what the marathon runners will be passing by....

People will watch the thousands of runners going by  ---  but they won't notice the death rattling corpses of the all but dead Catholic Churches along Brooklyn's Fourth Avenue

How many such churches are there ?  Four ??  -  Five ???  -  Six ????  -  Seven ?????  ---  If you throw in all the once-great Roman Catholic parishes touching the marathon route along Fourth Avenue, but whose churches are some blocks away,  the number is more than a dozen.....

Where have all the followers gone,  long time passing ?

Hey, but don't overlook the cash and other valuables  ---  there's still lots of it.....

What Catholics need to know is that they have been betrayed by their leaders;  and it's not just the priests, monsignors, and  bishops, ordinary and auxiliary.  Their moral rot is there for all to see or hear about,  if their sheepish followers just bother to stop, look and listen.  It's not just the paedos  ---  or the hush money and lies that keep that sore festering, years after it should have been rooted out  ---  it's also the cumulative financial irregularities,  including embezzlement and other scams,  that continue to fuel all the other wrongdoing.....

Where are the lay leaders ?

BTW,  there is a real political overlap here.....   Just look at the names of the Cathedral Clubbers that are at the top echelons of the Brooklyn Republican and Conservative Parties.  Then look at the two top guys flacking for the OLA-Saint Anselm's schools merger  ---  Mike Long and John Quaglione;  and how far away do we think Marty Golden is from all of that  ???   After all,  Golden and Quaglione didn't get their diocesan jobs from Godfather Nicky Mars for nothing.....

In the Twenty-first Century, the biggest Catholic Church scandal yet to be fully exposed is financial  ---  with huge assets like real property, stocks and bonds  --- and don't forget the ongoing endowments, and the ongoing endowments, and the ongoing endowments, and still more, the new bequests. Many a small fortune can be made on the fees and skims on all of that boodle.

Where is John Paul the First now that the Twenty-first Century Catholic Church really needs him ?????

Aside from child molestation and its coverup on a global scale, the other reason Catholicism has lost supporters is its insistence that the creator of all time, space, matter, energy, the multiverse, all the universes, all the dimensions, all matter, all life in all its forms on the quintrillions of planets throughout the thousands of billions of galaxies, split a piece of himself/itself off to be inserted into the womb of a Jewish girl because one of her remote ancestors ate the wrong fruit, so that portion of himself/itself could be born and raised as a human in order to be falsely accused, tortured and brutally murdered ... to compensate for that same wrong fruit. In recent centuries, Catholic leaders have imprisoned scientists like Galileo for saying the earth, moon and planets revolved around the sun. More recently, the Pope cautioned astronomers from using powerful telescopes that might enable them to see the dawn of creation.

John Q sends his kids to public school so what does he know about our local embattled Catholic Schools? Is it not a conflict of interest that John Q serves as Chair of the Saint Anselm Board of Trustees while working for the Diocese and sending his kids to Public Schools? Something sure does smells rotten at the "Bay Ridge" table.

Why do certain lay people involve themselves in Church affairs?

Some might say, 'The heart wants what the heart wants.'

The more cynical would quote Willie Sutton on why he robbed banks.

RESPONSE & BACKFILL: THE "VERY IMPORTANT BACKGROUND" EDITION

TO ALL OF THE COMMENTERS ABOVE: >>> KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL <<<
>>> IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY AND THE PROPERTY --- AND THE SECRECY <<<

Start by reading a recent WaPo editorial about the finances of the U.S. Catholic Church. In part it said:
"THE BREADTH and depth of corruption in the Catholic Church seem boundless, and colored by the ongoing dysfunction arising from clergy sex abuse and the hierarchy’s inability to grapple with it. Some of the misdeeds and coverups have been facilitated by a law that exempts religious institutions and affiliated charitable entities from financial reporting that is required of other nonprofit organizations. Even as the Vatican, seeking to move beyond its protracted season of scandal, calls for a new era of transparency, the church’s finances in the United States remain opaque...." (See "The opaque finances that enable the Catholic Church’s abuse scandal" by The Editorial Board, 6/9/2019, Washington Post/ The Post's View/ Opinion [https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-opaque-finances-that-enable-the-catholic-churchs-abuse-scandal/2019/06/09/d6386cca-8968-11e9-a491-25df61c78dc4_story.html]).

John Q was involved in some really shady St A's Board activities. In fact a few years ago the entire board resigned. Check it out. John Q supposedly signed a Lease without getting Board approval

Anonymous said...

John Q signed a lease without board approval? Something is very wrong with that.
How can that be true?
How could John Quaglione due such a thing?
What is his explanation?

OLPH has condos going on the market in 2021.

That's not in Brooklyn, it's in Manhattan at 337 E 62nd Street.

Stick a fork in him, John Quaglione should be done as a candidate for public office.

It's now 100% obvious that all he has ever been is a 'yes man' for crooks and scoundrels, and that's all he knows how to do.

The Saint Anselm's-OLA coverups are just more of the same.

The Saint Anselm's Academy home page doesn't mention that it is shutting down. That would be bad PR, and Quaglione is a PR 'expert'.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens' most recent accounting (2018 for 2017) lists assets of just over $43 million, but just the real estate value of Bay Ridge's Roman Catholic parishes alone is at least five times that amount, and it really might be worth well over half a billion dollars. And those same Bay Ridge parishes are each endowed with several millions more dollars.

'Heartshare' the NFP 'charitable' subsidiary of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens listed their total annual revenue as over $100,000,000 through June 2017, with net assets of over $13 million.

Quaglione will beat MCcabe or anyone else like a pulp again in 2021 like he did in 17

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "WHEN THE 'CRIME' AND THE 'COVERUP' ARE ABOUT EQUAL" EDITION

LET'S REFOCUS ON ONE PARISH ON FOURTH AVENUE --- ST. ANSELM'S AND ITS "ACADEMY" AND ITS BOARD AND JOHN QUAGLIONE

A couple of comments above specifically mentioned Brooklyn Republican Executive Member John Quaglione, State Committee 46th A.D., current employee of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, former staffer to once upon a time State Senator Marty Golden --- and Grand Puhba of the soon going out of business St. Anselm's Academy. One of the comments suggested that Mr. Quaglione was guilty of an ultra vires act early in his tenure as "Chairman" of the Board at St. Anselm's Academy. I remembered a little rumble about it back in 2017, but pretty much had forgotten all about it.

Now, with the effective collapse of the Catholic academies for OLA and St. Anselm's parishes under Quaglione and Mike Long, it seemed like time to look closer at what was going on there back in 2017 when Long, Quaglione, Jerry Kassar and Marty Golden were pulling out all the stops to get Quaglione elected to the City Counsel against somebody that they saw as a weak candidate, Justin Brannan.

In the final stages of the City Council campaign in 2017, Quaglione and the others wanted to announce a deal to get a Pre-K program up and running in the building of St. Anselm's School. Quaglione and lot's of important people wanted it done --- the problem was that St. Anselm's Academy had to sign off on the lease for the space to the Pre-K, just like Mike Long had done in OLA. The problem was that the then-existing Board at St. Anselm's Academy voted against approving the lease for the Pre-K operation.

What to do, what to do, what to do? John Quaglione was told to sign the lease for the Pre-K and call for the uncooperating Board Members to resign, which they did.

The Pre-K program at St Anselm's was publically announced, but not the ultra vires and unlawful activity to get it done. In fact, all attempts by those associated with the removed St. Anselm Academy Board Members to tell their side of the story in the local press were ruthlessly suppressed by the cabal supporting the election of Quaglione, and the important people pushing for the Pre-K program in the St. Anselm's School building.

Though technically probably not a "crime," as such, the dirty St. Anselm's Pre-K deal had John Quaglione right in the middle of it, doing what he was told; and up until this moment, it's pretty much been "covered up."

923, maybe you haven't heard, but "Q" didn't beat Justin Brannan in 2017, he lost to a big fat loser.

If there were no cover up of the shenanigans "Q" did at St. Anselm's right before the election, he would have lost to JB by a much bigger number than Brannan's belt size.

A re-run of the 2017 GOP primary in 2021 would have a much different result. I can hardly wait to help bury "Q" for good.

Quaglione will beat MCcabe or anyone else like a pulp again in 2021 like he did in 17 but he will lose to Brannan like he did in 17. You can kiss that Council seat good-bye. It's a Democratic seat now. We need to focus our efforts on the 64th Assembly Seat. We need a local foothold. If Marty doesn't run against Andrew G, we will loose that seat too. We need to focus our efforts on the 64th Assembly Seat. Mike Tanousis is our only hope.

9:39 Justin lucky he won in 2017 thanks to running the sleaziest most negative campaign of any candidate in the history of the district. He can’t win no other way but ugly and it suits his ginormous ugly persona anyhow. If the Republicans learn from their mistakes in 2017, Justin is history.

Anonymous said...

Im confused. Is Q a 2 time loser or a 3 time loser?

Anonymous said...

All these people count Q out. Wait until Golden wins next year!

Anonymous said...

11:40 has clearly not worked on many campaigns. Justin nearly lost to hapless Q because Justin refused to go negative on Q.

Anonymous said...

If Justin had gone negative on Q he would have won in a massive land slide but he refused to go negative on Q and still won with a decent margin considering D-Bozo was on the ballot and Nicole got around 70% of the vote but even with 70% of the vote at the top of the ticket, Q still lost so just sit and ruminate about that for a half a moment it is here to see Q is done

Anonymous said...

Justin making up stories again. Those anonymous flyers against Q last week of campaign were by Justin. de Blasio panicked about Justin so much he sent his top advisers to help him and got the unions to pour tons of money in his race and fund negative digital ads against Q. Justin got lucky even Dems wince at having a dude like that representing them.

Some of Marty's most loyal supporters were quietly feeding dirt to the Brannan campaign in the days and weeks leading up to the 2017 Election.

Loyalties aside, they knew a Quaglione administration would be a complete disaster and bad for their bottom line economically.

Brannan's camp decided not to go negative and wouldn't use the dirt and the rest is history but these same loyal Golden cronies are now coming back out of the woodwork ever since that Q has put the final nail in the coffin of Saint Anselm and they want him to be exposed for the Yes Man he always been and will always be.

Stay thirsty, my friends !

RESPONSE: THE "JUST LOOK AT THAT" EDITION

TO A FEW OF THE COMMENTERS ABOVE

SOMEBODY WANTS MY READERS TO THINK THAT JUSTIN B IS STILL INTERESTED IN "Q".....

I SORT OF DOUBT IT, BUT THERE IS WEIRDNESS EVERYWHERE, I SUPPOSE --- JUST LIKE HOW I SUPPOSE THAT SOMETIMES "NOTHING TO IT" MORPHS INTO "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE"; AND THEN "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE" MORPHS INTO SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR THAT SOMEBODY SAYS "THIS DEFINITELY HAPPENED LIKE I SAID".....

Now, I'm pretty sure that somebody on the GOP side of the aisle fed somebody on the Dem side of the aisle some really good dirt on JQ kind of late into the 2017 campaign for City Council, but I doubt that those anti-JQ Republicans were with the Marty Golden faction. If so, then they also gave similar info to somebody else, and that somebody would have been a sworn blood enemy of Golden inside the GOP.

That scenario just doesn't make it past this Sweeney Todd blogger's wielding of Occam's Razor.
