Jerry Kassar and the Golden Campaign were saying that Ian Reilly was being slandered and defamed in October 2018

This blog and several other local outlets were talking about the whole Ian Walsh Reilly--Proud Boys slander thing weeks before the 2018 election

Several local Democrats had called on State Senator Martin Golden to fire Ian Reilly from his staff  and/or his campaign in the weeks leading up to the 2018 General Election  ---  State Senator Golden stood behind Reilly at the time  ---  any mention of that in any pro-Gounardes literature or fund raising was part of the general and on-going political debate leading up to the 2018 election  ---  won by Gounardes and lost by Golden

Jerry Kassar was definitely part of the Golden Peanut Gallery shouting  ---  "SLANDER !!!"  when it came to Ian Reilly ---  and that surely was in mid-October 2018

A tempest in a teapot

Like all good comedy, it's all about the timing.

Precisely, when was the Ian Reilly lawsuit filed?

If all the same stuff was in the news more than a year before that, then Reilly doesn't have a doorman's leg to stand on in court.

Anonymous said...

Gail, good job in keeping the focus on Kassar's and Golden's connections to Ian (Walsh) Reilly's lawsuit against State Senator Andrew Gounardes and the other Bay Ridge Democrats.

The Reilly-Kassar-Golden association with the Proud Boys and other neo-Fascist, neo-Nazi groups had been well described in the past. However, this lawsuit will make it all fresh again. Before it's over, people like Golden, Kassar, Reilly and Morgan will be fighting like cats in a bag trying to get out of each others problems, and out of each others ways in explaining away the whole "Proud Boys" mess.

Anonymous said...

Ian Reilly put himself right in with the Proud Boys when he said this to the Gothamist:
"...Reilly said that the Republican organization does not have any misgivings about hosting McInnes, noting that the Proud Boy founder's views don't differ much from those of previous Metropolitan Club guests, like Tucker Carlson, Newt Gingrich, and Ann Coulter. 'He is part of the right.... We promote people and ideas of all kinds from the right. We're open to different views. We would never invite anyone who would incite violence."

The Gothamist article also said this, "Earlier this week, McInnes posted a photo on Instagram of Otoya Tamaguchi, a Japanese ultranationalist who assassinated the head of the country's socialist party, and promised to re-enact 'this inspiring moment' at the Metropolitan Club."

Ian Reilly can ruminate and rant, but he can't change what he is and how he has been perceived since well before October 2018.

Hey Nicole keep the day job. Democrats control reapportionment so if you win its only for one term.

oh 9:08 Ian can change what he is

BTW, is it 'A tempest in a teapot' or 'A tempest in a teacup'?

Whoever mentioned Nicole Malliotakis in an earlier comment on this comments thread was a genius.

Nicole needs to tell everybody what she thinks about: 1) the 'Proud Boys' group, fraternity, security detail, provocateurs, convicted felons, and all the rest; 2) Gavin McInnes; 3) Ian Reilly; attorney for Ian Reilly, Dennis Houdek; 4) Jerry Kassar and his tangled web of associations with the 'Proud Boys,' Gavin McInnes, Ian Reilly, and Kevin Houdek; and 5) the tactic of trying to use a lawsuit for libel and slander to silence one's political opponents.

If Malliotakis doesn't address those things pro-actively, her opponents need to ask her about it over and over and over again, until she does answer.

Who is writing the copy for Ian Reilly's lawyer Dennis Houdek, John Quaglione?

In Houdek's statement to the Brooklyn Paper last week talking about the Ian (Walsh) Reilly lawsuit for libel was this gem, quoting Dennis Houdek: '... [I]t is a classic free speech issue....”

AND INDEED IT IS!

GOOD LUCK WITH REILLY'S SUIT FOR LIBEL AND SLANDER.

Anonymous said...

Yeah someone needs to ask Nicole Malliotakis WHY she still holds fundraisers at the Metropolitan Republican Club, despite the Club's deep ties to Ian Walsh Reilly and the Proud Boys. WHY????

Anonymous said...

Gail, you're not only right about this, you are 100% right. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Anonymous said...

154, maybe not! Maybe, a pro-First Amendment group will jump in and do it Pro Bono. ADL and SPLC must have somebody around who would be glad to do it, given what they think about the Proud Boys and their friends, supporters and members, who really are very hard to tell apart if you believe the ADL.

Your little jibe about '.... Now all these phony politicians and their twitter extensions masquerading as concerned citizens can have fun spending at minimum tens of thousands defending this lawsuit....' and words of similar import have been repeated on here GM's blog a few times. That strongly suggests that this'suit' that Ian Walsh Reilly and his lawyer might get afloat sometime soon is only intended to be vexatious and harassing.

Now, THAT would really be something that's very very bad, and those chickens should come home to roost on Marty Golden's and Jerry Kassar's doorsteps in due course.

Anonymous said...

3:51 yes I’m sure all those people and groups would love a defamation specialist to come and take this case pro bono but won’t happen. This is going to be costly even if it gets dismissed. It won’t get tossed on harassment grounds either. You’re all to blame here. Ian for thinking he could manage Marty’s campaign and invite the Proud Boys to the Met Club and all those hangers on drooling to suck up to Justin and Andrew who posted stupid comments about Ian are now going to have to defend this suit. Y’all better hope it only gets to the dismissal phase because anything past that you’re looking at retainer figures with a lot of zeros behind them.

Anonymous said...

Is Ian willing to donate any award he gets to the church?

Anonymous said...

154 & 402, okay, now come clean and admit it, you have no clue about any of the requirements for the libel and slander causes of action that Ian Walsh Reilly thinks he might be bringing against any of the people or entities he hopes to name as defendants.

From what I have seen and heard, this is looking and sounding more and more like malicious prosecution and abuse of process by ykw and his lawyer, but maybe there's a lot more to it than what has appeared in any of the reporting so far.

Anonymous said...

hey 10:26 it must be great to know it all. the "requirements" for a libel case is to file a lawsuit. thats done.

Anonymous said...

10:26 shouldn’t lecture anyone about the legal requirements of slander, libel, or defamation if their defense theory rests on “malicious prosecution”. And the pro bono thing won’t work out. I’ll even do you a favor and diagram it for you. First you go to a lawyer who thinks they know someone who can handle it pro bono, then for XYZ reason they can’t but find someone who’ll do it for almost free. Then you go see them and they laugh at the case tell you it’s no big deal will get it tossed easily. They’ll charge you costs plus a nominal fee. Then proceedings start and they need a check for this then that and oh wait we didn’t expect the judge to make this favorable ruling but no big deal we’ll just need another check to cover this then that. Even if you win a dismissal you’re looking at a six figure bill. I have no horse in this race but you’re looking at writing some big checks.

112 & 422, file what and it's done?

Just file a 'lawsuit,' whatever do you mean by that?

Do you mean JUST FILE SOMETHING, more accurately ANYTHING? That seems like a very interesting and intriguing procedure.

There are a few alternatives as to what can be 'filed' to 'commence' a lawsuit in New York State, from what I've heard nothing close to what is required has been done.

RESPONSE & QUERY: THE "I CAN'T FIND IT" EDITION

TO SEVERAL OF THE VERY INTERESTING COMMENTERS ABOVE & ANYBODY THAT MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP

I'VE USED SEVERAL DIFFERENT SEARCH CATEGORIES IN THE NYS SUPREME COURT E-TRACK SYSTEM AND I JUST CAN'T FIND ANY CASE FILED BY DENNIS HOUDEK THAT LOOKS LIKE WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE IN EITHER BROOKLYN (KINGS) OR MANHATTAN (NEW YORK) AND ALSO THERE'S NOTHING FOR ANY PLAINTIFF(S) NAMED IAN REILLY OR IAN WALSH REILLY

SO IT SORT OF LOOKS LIKE THERE IS NO LAWSUIT FOR DEFAMATION, LIBEL OR SLANDER BY IAN WALSH REILLY AGAINST ANYBODY

But I'm glad to keep looking. Maybe somebody can pass along a relevant Index Number if it exists.....

OMG, did Houdek and Reilly "make a Federal case out of this"? Nah !!! The sanctions would be horrific.....

"The questions beg" (Ah, those were the glory days...):
Was anything filed?
What was filed?
Where was it filed?
--and--
How was it filed?

Houdek might have a claim for Ian under the Jones Act.

Right now, Ian Reilly is at sea in a boat that is quite unseaworthy, and he also might have a local law claim for somebody's negligence. However, ethically Houdek couldn't take any part of that case.

Not to worry, John Ingram should soon be available; like Houdek, Ingram is a Jerry Kassar favorite and I heard that he's an expert in Maritime Law.

oh theres a lawsuit

Anonymous said...

I don't see how Reilly's lawyer can make a case that his client being called a Proud Boy was somehow worse than his client openly, proudly and publicly "advising" the Nazi Party in Germany

Anonymous said...

Okay, 900, if you're right and '... oh there's a lawsuit....', can you tell me: a) When did it 'accrue'; and b) When was it filed?

Anonymous said...

Did anybody on the pro-Ian Reilly side notice that his faux-lawsuit didn't impede Fight Back Bay Ridge, Radio Free Bay Ridge and Mallory McMahon from tearing Nicole Malliotakis a new asshole for her strongly implied anti-Jewish and anti-Puerto Rican references to AOC and her meeting with 'a Jewish boy from QUeens'.

This sort of makes anything that Nicole says about 'anti-Semitism' hypocritical in a big way.

It also makes her coming-out for or against Ian Reilly and his 'Proud Boys' ilk more necessary than ever.

Anonymous said...

I see the harpies from the local Bay Ridge leftist groups are at it again either that or the East Side couple having another meltdown over Nicole staying friendly wit the Met Club. Nicole posted a clip of a Daily News editorial, that was written by the Daily News not Nicole and when she realized people might misunderstand she took it down. But please continue to be perpetually offended and write crazy shit that in some instances courts of law may find defamatory. Lawyers have to eat too.

Anonymous said...

Oh my! So now Nicole wants everybody to think that it was the Daily News' fault.

Did you run that past John Quaglione? I'll bet he thought that was a brilliant excuse.

The problem is that for a while Nicole Malliotakis thought that this belonged on her campaign's social media page: "The Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx and the Jewish boy from Brooklyn are meeting in Queens this afternoon to pledge their commitment to each other. No, it’s not the new Broadway revival of “West Side Story,” but the endorsement by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, of Bernie Sanders, who would be the oldest presidential nominee ever."

Then when it was pointed out how insensitive she was, Nicole tried to undo the whole thing and make believe it never happened. However, she got caught way off base by FBBR, RFBR, BR DEMS and some others with a strong leftish tint.'

Lawyers will starve by trying to convince anybody that Nicole's association with Ian Walsh Reilly and making remarks like he would is a good thing.

Nonetheless, when people like FBBR, RFBR, BR DEMS and all the rest pretty much trot out some pretty good evidence of the quickly dimming GOP starlet's likely comfort with remarks indicating ethnic and/or religious insensitivity, to suggest even the remotest chance of another defamation suit against the Democrats is more than merely disturbing. It shows that the Ian Reilly POV permeates the pe

Ian Reilley is a gay Republican whose longtime boyfriend is an African-American. Ian is not a bigot and if this gets to trial we’re going to find out a lot of uncomfortable things about those phony virtue signaling electeds and their puppet groups like FBBR RFBR and BR Dems. All those idiotic groups you mentioned are run by rich white kids with trust funds. The post you mentioned about Nicole was from the Daily News and was deleted way before anyone complained and one of those silly little groups bragged that they took a screen shot the minute it went up. How sad that these trust fund babies have nothing better to do with their time. Nicole’s main adviser Gerry is good friends with Ian and Nicole has a good relationship with him. That’s not going to change because trust funders make false potentially defamatory accusations against him.

Fact: Proud Boys is defined as far right neo fascist group that promotes violence.
Fact: Andy and others raised money off libeling Ian Reilly.
Fact: Ian will win by default.

Anonymous said...

723 & 859, you're both delusional if you think that there's even the slightest upside for Reilly, Golden or Malliotakis by bringing up this nonsense about Ian Reilly being libeled, slandered or defamed by anybody when it comes to the Proud Boys stuff that happened more than a year ago, in a long past election campaign.

Let's start by saying most of your "facts" don't even come close to being facts.

Here is one incontrovertible and even incontestable fact, Marty Golden stood up for his staff member, Ian Walsh Reilly, in the two weeks prior to the election in 2018. And here is another, Golden got kicked to the curb and had his political career ended in less than two weeks of doing what he did vis a vis Reilly. No doubt, Jerry Kassar thought that was a good position to have before Election Day 2018, but you would think election night would've disabused him of that.

Now, Kassar and the rest of the brain trust behind Nicole Malliotakis want to try virtually the same exact thing going into the 2020 elections. Hey, maybe the doses of the bitter pill called Ian Walsh Reilly will work out better stretched out over about a year.

Hmmmm, let's think about that.

Anonymous said...

But here are some more real facts: Jerry wrecked Nicole’s Mayoral campaign. Jerry destroyed Marty’s re-election campaign and ended his political career. Jerry has destroyed many political campaigns that he ran and is in the process of destroying Nicole’s congressional campaign. Ian Reilly was defamed and scapegoated for the mere act of hosting the Proud Boys and should not be blamed for the losses people who turn over their political fates to Jerry.

RESPONSE: THE "YES AND NO" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 5:25 AM"

YOUR NUANCED DEFENSE OF IAN REILLY IS QUITE INTERESTING, SINCE IT ALSO CONTAINS A FULL-THROATED ATTACK ON JERRY KASSAR, WHO HAS BEEN LIKE A SIREN OR HARPY IN HIS AGGRESSIVE DEFENSE OF MR. REILLY FOR WELL OVER A YEAR NOW.....

SINCE BOTH YOU AND KASSAR ARE STILL PUSHING SO HARD ON THE THEME THAT REILLY HAS BEEN AND CONTINUES TO BE THE VICTIM OF LIBELOUS, SLANDEROUS, DEFAMATORY AND SCURRILOUS ATTACKS BY ANDREW GOUNARDES AND ALL THE REST OF THE GREATER BR DEMS COMMUNITY --- THE FISSURES BETWEEN KASSAR AND YOU OBVIOUSLY DON'T TRUMP YOUR POSITION OF CO-BELLIGERENCY WHEN IT COMES TO IWR

LET'S UNPACK THIS A LITTLE MORE --- IAN WALSH REILLY IS A BLUNT INSTRUMENT WITH A HANDLE OF FUSED BITS OF BROKEN GLASS SHARDS --- HE IS OBVIOUSLY BOTH VERY IMPRESSIVE AND VERY DANGEROUS

I don't know who introduced IWR into the Marty Golden fold, however his addition to the Golden team was both injudicious at the start and cancerously destructive in its ontogeny. At best he brings in a network of skullduggerous and ulterior political actors with him --- at worst he brings in a network of skullduggerous and ulterior political actors with him.

All this recent chatter about some possible lawsuit for libel, slander or defamation against Andrew Gounardes and many of the Gounardes supporters is like treating the Ian Walsh Reilly cancer with steroids --- the metastasis has already overtaken the Nicole Malliotakis campaign.

It isn't just Jerry Kassar, it's several of the more recent additions to the Brooklyn GOP leadership as well; first and foremost would be Liam McCabe, who personally parroted all the IWR libel, slander, defamation nonsense back in October 2018. --- Or, has Liam changed since Reilly's flap with the senior Mr. Morgan at the end of last year ???

Back to the current campaign of Nicole Malliotakis --- and her recent ethnic and religious faux pas "quoting a Daily News Editorial" --- she's suddenly more comfortable tweeting trash like that since she has been influenced by the likes of Ian Walsh Reilly.

However, don't be too harsh on Nicole the Congressional Candidate alone --- WHAT WOULD YOU EXPECT HER TO DO WITH PEOPLE LIKE JERRY KASSAR AND ANDREA CATSIMATIDIS PROMINENT IN HER CORNER ??? THEY NOT ONLY HAVE KEPT IWR NEARBY AND ACTIVE, THEY CONTINUE TO PUT IAN WALSH REILLY OUT FRONT LIKE A HOOD ORNAMENT.....

It's too much for a conservative Republican like me to get my head around --- unless I've missed the obvious..... Maybe, Ian Walsh Reilly has gotten so big, he is running the show and telling Jerry and Andrea what to do.

OMG, it sounds like something in the series WATCHMEN

GM at 9:22. You are confusing a few different things. Jerry’s a friend of mine but he has no business running political campaigns because he runs them into the ground. I feel bad for Ian because he was brought along to be figurehead of the campaign without any say in any important decisions. The campaign was run by Jerry and Mike Tubman. Ian was paid a small monthly salary and got caught up in the political drama. But he’s no bigot and to suggest otherwise about a gay Republican whose got partner is black seems quite fake. Nicole’s old chief of staff the woman not the alleged gangster, tried to hold an intervention with Nicole, Jerry played along and got rid of her instead. He don’t care if Nicole wins or loses he just wants to run things. Ian’s got nothing to do with any of this.
