However, you can judge a person, or a party, by the company they keep.... The company Mr. Reilly keeps – neo-Nazis, white supremacists, Holocaust-deniers – are not the kind that Manhattan Republicans can be proud of.'..."
On February 7, 2019, the Daily Beast made the following statement as part of its report about Ian Walsh Reilly: "The new president of New York’s Metropolitan Republican Club boasted to members about advising a far-right group in Germany that endorses shooting migrants and forgetting the Holocaust, and flirts with Nazis.... Ian Walsh Reilly was elected last Wednesday to lead the club, which has counted Theodore Roosevelt, Nelson Rockefeller, and Michael Bloomberg as members. Unlike those moderate Republicans, Reilly is a full-throated supporter of the far-right. Serving previously as the club’s chairman, he’s believed to have invited Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes to speak to the club in October, which led to a violent melee between Proud Boys and antifascists outside." In the "Daily Beast" article cited in my main post above, the doorman, Mr. Reilly, is quoted as follows: ".... Last year I founded a consultancy with a friend who is also active in GOP politics. The Yorkville Group is what we called it.... It has provided services, not just to statewide candidates... [mentioned a candidate who denied any association with Reilly's consultancy group] but to international political parties like Alternative fur Deutschland.” And then Ian Walsh Reilly went on to say this: ".... Originally one of the members was going to come to the United States and what we were going to do was help them meet with members of Congress.... It didn’t happen, but we’re open to it happening again.... It wasn’t that I went after them, it was that someone who was part of the party knew I would be able to help them get access.... Since it’s such a new party, they would have wanted access to discuss who they are… what they represent. They are a very pro-American party, a lot of these people.”
The Daily Beast writer noted that despite the deal with Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) allegedly falling through, Reilly's Yorkville Group website still listed AfD as a client.
Daily Beast also provided this background info about Reilly's so-called "client": "....AfD also flirts with Nazis, publicly blowing Hitler dog whistles in a country where symbols of the monstrous regime are outlawed. At a party march in Chemnitz last year, AfD members marched together with neo-Nazis. And last month, the party was 'indefinitely' banned from Holocaust remembrance services at the Buchenwald concentration-camp memorial in central Germany after an AfD leader there said Berlin should 'make a 180 degree change' to its policy of commemorating the Holocaust...."
Doesn't the kind of lawsuit that Reilly's lawyer, Dennis Houdek, is trying to bring against State Senator Gounardes require (an) allegation(s) of 'special damages'?
What does Reilly claim as his special damages? Wasn't he elected president of the Metropolitan Republican Club after the pro-Gounardes flyer had been published, widely distributed and then later on discussed by all sides in the Met Club's campaign to elect a new president earlier this year.
Could it be that Reilly's only claim for special damages resulted from Marty Golden's loss to Gounardes in the 2018 election. After all that's the only thing that Houdek mentioned to Kings County Politics last week, other than what was said back and forth in the campaign for President of the Metropolitan Club, which Reilly won.
