Forget about how many people got sent to jail before trial --- the real number that shows how many hardened and violent criminals stay on the street is how few of them get convicted of serious crimes and then sent to do hard time for a long stretch in NYS PENITENTIARIES >>> as in sent "to prison Upstate for a long time"
Yesterday, the best that the Brooklyn GOP could muster at the Brian Fox demonstration on 86th Street & Fourth Avenue, in Bay Ridge Brooklyn spent almost a half hour talking about crime and punishment, and keeping everybody safe >>> nobody mentioned how few alleged criminals, who allegedly committed serious crimes, are arrested, wind up convicted, and then sent "to prison Upstate for a long time"
The number of bad guys that get arrested, and then get convicted, and then go "to prison Upstate for a long time" is a very low number of bad guys.....
Can anybody guess how few of those arrested for serious crimes are ever sent "to prison Upstate for a long time" ???
--- Hint: now it is a very, very low number
--- Hint: that number has been dropping for the last several years (starting before the so-called "No bail" reforms)
--- Hint: that number was never very high in the first place
In Brooklyn, for the last year that numbers are available, 2020, only 1.9% of those arrested for serious crimes were sent "to prison Upstate for a long time" --- the year before that, 2019, it was 3.8% --- the year before that, 2018, it was 4.3% --- and in 2017 & 2016 it was 5.3%.....
For those same years, the overall conviction rate for those arrested for serious crimes in Brooklyn was: for the last year that numbers are available, 2020, only 21.1% --- the year before that, 2019, it was 41.5% --- the year before that, 2018, it was 49.4% --- in 2017 it was 54.4% --- and in 2016 it was 52.0%.....

Wait a minute, Gail, those numbers mean that only around 10% fo those CONVICTED OF SERIOUS CRIMES are ever sent to prison.
Cops, what is done by cops, and what is done to or about cops with respect to their funding or defunding has absolutely nothing to do with that.

Given our lengthy telephone converation with Karim Elsammak, we can state that he pretends to be open and honest; but in reality, he is really quite evasive, and occasionally he's downright mendacious.
One of the categories that we discussed were his business interests. Our impression was that he was very evasive in providing any details whatsoever about his real or imagined business ventures.
The video that accompanied the post quoted above was especially problematic, because that video concealed much more than it revealed.....
