Local elections break back into the news — Coverage of Golden & Gounardes debate shows that Andrew Gounardes is ready to give State Senator Golden a tough run in the last month of the 2012 Campaign

Debate coverage by Colin Campbell in “Politicker” gives highlights of challenger Gounardes' confronting incumbent state senator over women’s economic issues and gun control -- other issues in debate shown on video clip

The report by Colin Campbell, “DYKER DUST-UP  –  Brooklyn Senate Candidates Square off in Contentious Debate” in yesterday’s “Politicker” indicated that Democratic State Senate Candidate Andrew Gounardes was able to take it to the GOP incumbent on several issues and to hold his own, even when Martin Golden seemed to gain the upper hand on certain pet issues during the Dyker Heights Civic Association debate.

According to the Campbell/Politicker report, Andrew Gounardes confronted  Golden on women’s issues, including a stentorian blast that “the incumbent’s position on equal pay legislation is ‘shameful’”; and that he pushed the State Senator into a corner on the issue of post-rape abortion services by hammering home “Marty, you voted against that bill three times up in Albany.”

At one point Golden even had to duck and weave into an argument about punishing criminals for gun violence, after the challenger “accused him of being in the pocket of the gun lobby.”

Imbedded in the Colin Campbell post about the Golden-Gounardes Debate was a video clip of the debate provided by “The Bensonhurst Bean” at:
