Earlier this week, at a fund-raiser for Queens Republican Councilman Dan Halloran, who’s running for Congress, Rudy Giuliani simply went-off on President Obama’s administration and its “cover-up” of the Benghazi attack’s terrorist roots, which the former NYC mayor described as a “bunch of lies” based on the Obama campaign’s calculations for his re-election and the president’s “fantasy world” delusions.
According to the man who was New York City’s mayor when it suffered its own terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, “This was a ‘terrorist attack.... [but] the president has hard time saying those words. He has a hard time saying those words because he lives in a fantasy world. The fantasy world he lives in is that Islamic extremist terrorism, even if it exists, shouldn’t be acknowledged. We pretend they’re not at war with us; we’re certainly not at war with them.”
The former Republican mayor, whose 2008 run for the presidency was largely based on his national security expertise, argued President Obama’s “fantasy” mind-set trickled down through the inner workings of the U.S. State Department leading that part of the Obama Administration to deny requests for additional security at the Consulate in Libya.
Rudy Giuliani used the moment and the national security issues raised by the Obama Administration’s handling of the Benghazi fiasco as an overriding reason to elect Dan Halloran to the U.S. Congress. According to the former mayor, “If it wasn’t for the victory we had two years ago, this entire situation in Libya, which the administration wants to cover-up, the requests for more security, the denial of more security, calling it a ‘spontaneous incident’ where almost from the first minute it was described as an Islamist, extremist, terrorist attack by an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group, that entire-cover up would be covered up, because there’d be no Republican Congress to hold the hearings ... to lay out this picture.”
