Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio has shown that he has a thin skin when it comes to jokes about pedophile priests and their supporters and facilitators inside the Catholic Church --- basically, that's almost all of the rest of the priests and hierarchy from the Pope on down to parish priests and chaplains to various institutions --- and of course, let's not leave out some of our own local lay diocesan employee facilitators like Marty Golden, John Quaglione and Maryellen Quinn
This crowd needs to be tarred and feathered and rode out of town on a rail --- so if a few jokes helps make that happen --- SO BE IT !!!
It wasn't that long ago that Godfather Bishop Nicky Mars (the soon to be the very multiple-sued Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, formerly of New Jersey) was all bent out of shape because of a couple of jokes on "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) --- Well, if anybody needs bending out of shape on a regular basis it sure is that guy.....

What those strident responses demonstrated is that "Saturday Night Live" hit a raw nerve down on Prospect Park West --- and now all the world is beginning to see why --- SNL's Pete Davidson had it 100% right when he joked, “.... If you support the Catholic Church, isn’t that the same thing as being an R. Kelly fan?” (R. Kelly is an R&B artist with a cult-like following and a history of sex abuse).....
Just like in the days of Serpico, when it was said that all cops were corrupt or had actual knowledge of cases of cops engaged in police corruption, can't the same be said about anybody closely associated with the Roman Catholic Church, especially here in Brooklyn.
Conservative minded Catholics need to stop being such slothful sheep and need to join with those challenging the terribly corrupt and non-responsive clergy and hierarchy of the contemporary Roman Catholic Church.
There will be much more from here about DiMarzio and his crew (including Golden, Quaglione and Quinn [Oh my, my ! Wait 'til you see what she's up to]) --- things are just beginning to heat up.....

Among a few other problematic duties, Maryellen Quinn is the enforcer of a program called the 'Child Lures' program, which is in turn subject to curriculum and other mandates from something called "PRAESIDIUM"*
The Child Lures Program is intended to instruct kids in the fundamentals of 'inappropriate' sexual touching beginning in kindergarten and continuing through the Eighth Grade in all the Catholic schools in Brooklyn and Queens.
Here is "Maryellen Quinn, [the Brooklyn Diocese's] Safe Environment Coordinator" in her own words:
".... Our children are trained from the time they start Religious Ed or school, kindergarten in Catholic schools, and they’re given the program of Child Lures.... It starts with baby steps, 'what is your bathing suit zone', 'no one should touch you in your bathing suit zone.'... It goes on in 3rd/4th grade to talk about 'don’t go with strangers,' and then... as it goes up, the last lessons in 8th grade talk about relationships, 'what are good relationships/ bad relationships.'...”

Last year the Bishop of the Brooklyn Diocese Nicholas DiMarzio made a formal "Put Out Into the Deep" statement entitled "An Attack on All Catholics" indicating, among other things, that the priestly sex abuse of children and young people scandals reported in the press, though an historical fact, was not part of an ongoing saga.
I will stop short of calling him a baldfaced liar, but he should have been aware that many of the facts contained in the U.S. Bishops' "2017 Annual Report on the Implementation of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People" though promising and showing a favorable trend, were very likely to have been a temporary downward blip and relying on them as proof of progress was likely to be illusory. That was proved in spades with the data contained in the 2018 report, which came out in May 2019. The "2018 Annual Report on the Implementation of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People" contained data of huge increases in reported cases of priestly sex abuse, with only a small percentage found to be not credible. There was also a massive increase in payouts for damages and in settlements. Just as important, the 2018 report contained a caveat that the report for 2019 would likely show additional increases in all those categories.
By their nature, claims by victims take place in the past. Nonetheless, the huge and likely continuing uptick in reported cases does not bode well for anybody trying to convince those willing to believe, that the problem is not part of an ongoing saga inside the Catholic Church.
Much more will come out once existing governmental state and federal probes of the Church move forward --- in spite of Bishop DiMarzio's veiled threats of noncompliance contained in his statement mentioned above in this comment.

So far the Diocese of Brooklyn has been somewhat tight-lipped about the numbers of lawsuits filed in a variety of jurisdictions under New York's and other states' "look back" legislation.
Another New Jersey lawsuit involves a Father Joseph Cevetello, now deceased [died in 1985], who was a priest in the Archdiocese of Newark during some of Bishop DiMarzio's tenure there as a priest.
Where is Eaton?
I think it is time we had a frank discussion about the Diocese and Bishop DiMarzio's sordid transgressions. Is John Q really the one responsible for the press response and crisis communications? I find that hard to believe. Why wouldn't the the Diocese bring in some big firm to handle that much incoming heat?
I also want to make sure it goes on record that now both Liam and his new bride work for Mayor De Blasio. Liam as a dispatcher for the T.L.C. and his bride as a low-level clerk in the Children Service Department. So much for "less government" when they are both suckling on City Hall's teeter.

Make no mistake, McCarrick and DiMarzio were very close indeed, with McCarrick advancing DiMarzio's career in Newark, on the national scene with a Washington, D.C., posting and internationally.
In 2007, well after many of McCarrick's sexual improprieties were well known, some admittedly involving adults, and others allegedly involving young boys as well, Bishop DiMarzio, at a time when he was serving as the Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn went on an overseas trip with the disgraced but still somewhat influential cardinal.

Bishop Edward Scharfenberger is currently the Bishop of the Diocese of Albany, NY. However he has a substantial history as a top assistant to Bishop DiMarzio in Brooklyn and Queens. Bishop DiMarzio even said this about Scharfenberger when he was made Bishop of Albany, “Monsignor Scharfenberger has been a close collaborator and friend...."
When it comes to the large scale cover-ups involved in the pedophile priest scandal, DiMarzio and Scharfenberger were like two peas in a pod together in the Brooklyn Diocese.
For example, the infamous and disingenuous 2009 "... Presentation to the People of the Diocese of Brooklyn" --- "FROM SHADOW TO LIGHT AND FROM SCANDAL TO HEALING: THE EXPERIENCE OF THE DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN WITH THE SEX ABUSE SCANDAL" which is formally attributed only to Bishop DiMarzio was very likely "co-authored" by Monsignor Edward Scharfenberger, although he is only mentioned among a long list of collaborators that "assisted" DiMarzio under this very dubious and ironic appellation and style >>> "Reverend Monsignor Edward B. Scharfenberger, Promoter of Justice".....
In addition, Bishop Scharfenberger, during his career in Brooklyn and Queens, had been active as a lawyer for more than two decades, and as a member of the Diocesan Review Board for Sexual Abuse of Minors. In that capacity, he played a key role in the Diocese of Brooklyn's handling of the priestly sex abuse scandal as well as the handling of the complaints of victims of such priestly sexual abuse in Brooklyn and Queens.

The international, British-based "Tablet" article leads with a sub-headline that screams "... obfuscation and denial [ ] preceded this latest head to roll in the child abuse scandal" in large bold red type; and the article closes with a notation about the recent sex abuse charges against the Pope's chosen "Visitor" to Buffalo, Brooklyn's Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio (See "Buffalo case shows more needs to be done on bishop accountability" by Christopher Lamb, 12/4/19, The Tablet [https://www.thetablet.co.uk/news/12261/buffalo-case-shows-more-needs-to-be-done-on-bishop-accountability-]).
The author of the cited article, Christopher Lamb, is the reporter that broke the story that the Pope had accepted the resignation of Buffalo's under fire Bishop Richard Malone in mid-November, before the New York State Bishops made their much publicised collective "ad limina" visits to the Vatican. That news break was countered by a series of denials up and down the curial chain of command from Buffalo, New York to Rome --- with a clear impression that Bishop Malone was likely to remain as Buffalo's Bishop. All of that was lies and obfuscation. The reality was that Malone was forced out by the Pope shortly after getting DiMarzio's report.
Christopher Lamb now notes that in his first chance to use the newer and more open appearing “Vos Estis Lux Mundi” method of reviewing the possible improper actions of a bishop, the Pope chose to implement the traditional "Papal Visitor" method with Bishop DiMarzio as his agent. And as a result, the findings and the real reason for Bishop Malone's most likely involuntary ouster remain shrouded in secrecy.
It is interesting that the title and the gist of Lamb's piece repeatedly uses the term, "Bishops Accountability" --- because that happens to be the title of the SNAP* data bases, which list almost all known priest sexual offenders and the bishops that cover for them throughout the United States.
