Vito Bruno handled his terrible personal history as a night club/ afterhours club manager, promoter and owner by dismissing it all with the "lick and a promise" of a four (4) line, sixty-five (65) word statement
At the earliest stages of the debate, Vito Bruno was put into a box for his false statements concerning Bruno's allegations that Gounardes favored the defunding and disbanding of the NYPD
Vito Bruno introduced a story about the removal of the disruptive mother at a children's forum without any attempt to provide detail or context
All Vito Bruno had to say about Andrew Gounardes' well-documented charges of police corruption by Vito Bruno, which Vito Bruno had admitted in an article nearly contemporaneous to such police corruption was --- "It's lies, [Gounardes'] campaign is full of lies.... That article was about investigations of other police payoffs [not the payoffs Vito admitted to]...."
Vito Bruno's closing remarks were focused on the millions of dollars worth of smears against him --- without mentioning what they were or that they were completely researched, documented and verified

Watching Andy G go after Vito Bruno last nite was like watching Mike Tyson beat an old pillow
Andrew went after Vito, landing a flurry of lefts and rights on his undefended chin. The crowd importuned referee John Alexander to stop the fight and a towel was thrown from Vito's corner as a token of defeat.
No, it was a little closer than that. Andrew was more like Larry Holmes and Vito was like Ernie Shavers, in their second fight. Like Holmes, Andy had the great presence and command of the ring, he also was unflappable and disciplined, always moving sometimes right, sometimes left, mostly scoring with combinations to the head, shoulders and neck, but with a mix of solid body blows. For the most part it seemed like it was all Andy; but a few times Vito landed some heavy punches. (Vito must have known going in that he only had a puncher's chance). When Vito's kind of wild punches did land, Andy withstood the blows, covered up for a few moments, and then went back to the combinations high and solid body punches down low. In the end, Vito was out on his feet and Andy still had plenty left in his tank.
Vito scored a few hits but Andrew had him during the debate overall. I’ll still vote for Vito though, Andrews been terrible and hasn’t kept many campaign promises. Not to mention he’s completely controlled by his own party and in 2 years has almost never sided against them on any votes and none of major issue.
Andrews a weak candidate, why did they choose Vito to run against him? The GOP could of had an easy win.
I thought Larry Merchant put it best: had Marty been in the ring this year, Andy would have been down for the count but since Ted "Don King" Ghorra decided to run Vito Bluto, the Republicans will loose once again
Because Ghorra is a weak, useless leader and needs to go. He has no power and is a pawn of Kassar. They didn’t want a strong senate candidate because Golden is still crying over his loss and thinks he y it end that seat forever even though he got crushed two yrs ago
The Gounardes campaign needs to do at least one more mailer that shows more and better documentation about all the unlawful and even criminal activities that were involved in the clubs and other business activities of Vito Bruno over the years, and also to show that he is still proud of those things right up to the night of the Dyker Heights Civic Debate on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Just look at how during that debate Bruno talked about the Hip-Hop and Gansta Rappers with their violent lyrics about club life, shootings and their take on "Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll" many of who are the artists and celebrities that Vito Bruno has promoted, produced and managed in his "Small Business... in South Brooklyn".

I'm still not clear on Vito's sordid past. I'm hoping the Gounardes Campaign will send one or two more flyers to remind my family and I about these disco era transgressions

Vito’s past is his past. Andrew is young and a career politician. Of course when you live a life like that where every breath is weighed and measured based on political fall out you’ll have less skeletons.
Doesn’t make sense though that some of you are saying Marty’s mad he lost. Marty was offered the chance to run again and turned it down.
“I’m running because I’m alarmed at what’s happening in our community,” Bruno said. “Skyrocketing crime... the place is becoming unaffordable.”
If crime is skyrocketing then why is the neighborhood becoming unaffordable? Is there an economist or a real estate broker in the house? Perhaps a leading political columnist and local power broker who can explain?
The 2 aren’t mutually exclusive. The demand to live in the area is high. Crime is going up, especially when compared to last year.
These turkeys that claim “oh but crime was worse under Giuliani in the 90’s” sound insane. Sure crime could have been worse 25 years ago, but that doesn’t mean we ignore a huge increase today.
