Much Ado About..... Bishop DiMarzio --- the Pope tells "The Cardinal" to look into it

Another blip on the radar  ---  Cardinal Timothy Dolan has been put "in charge" of an investigation of Brooklyn's Godfather Bishop Nicholas "Nicky Mars" DiMarzio for the alleged sexual abuse of a child, together with another priest, that took place in a Jersey City parish in the 1970s in the Archdiocese of Newark  ---  other reports indicate that such "investigation" is to be conducted pursuant to Pope Francis' recently promulgated and implemented "Vos Estis" procedures

IT NEEDS TO BE NOTED THAT  >>>  today's NY Post report did contain this particular and very significant bit of news  ---  ".... 'Cardinal Dolan earlier notified the Holy See of the allegation that was raised concerning Bishop DiMarzio from his time as a priest in the Archdiocese of Newark,' the spokesman said in a statement...."  ---   that "spokesman" is Joseph Zwilling, of the Archdiocese of New York

That raises this question,  IF IT DID HAPPEN AS ZWILLING SAID,  WHEN EXACTLY DID CARDINAL DOLAN NOTIFY THE HOLY SEE OF THE ALLEGATION AGAINST BISHOP DI MARZIO ???

According to a report in a sectarian Catholic journal,   "Cardinal Timothy Dolan is conducting an investigation into Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, following an allegation of sexual abuse. The investigation is being conducted under the provisions of  Vos estis lux mundi, the new law issued by Pope Francis last year on dealing with accusations against bishops....  In a statement released Jan. 18, Joseph Zwilling, Director of Communications for the Archdiocese of New York, confirmed the investigation....  'As directed by Vos Estis, Cardinal Dolan earlier notified the Holy See of the allegation that was raised concerning Bishop DiMarzio from his time as a priest in the Archdiocese of Newark. On January 7, 2020, the Cardinal received instruction from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that he is to begin an investigation.'...”  (See "Cardinal Dolan conducting ‘Vos estis’ investigation into Brooklyn bishop"  from feed by CNA, 1/18/2020, The Catholic World Report   [https://www.catholicworldreport.com/2020/01/18/cardinal-dolan-conducting-vos-estis-investigation-into-brooklyn-bishop/]).
Among other matters, that article went on to state,  "....  The allegation was made shortly after DiMarzio himself concluded his own investigation into another bishop on behalf of the Vatican....  A spokesman for Cardinal Dolan said that the cardinal would be using experts to assist him in his task but did not give a timeline for the enquiry into DiMarzio....  'As is our practice, the Cardinal will rely on outside professional forensic investigators to assist him in this matter,' he said....  'The archdiocese will have no further comment on the matter while the investigation is undertaken.'..."

More about this in due course, as developments warrant.....

What!

Why no mention of John Quaglione, DiMarzio's PR guy?

Gail, your slipping.

I just read about the Vatican ordering Cardinal Dolan to probe Bishop DiMarzio sex abuse allegations. The Diocese used a different spokesperson not John Q. I think they finally figured out that they needed a professional.

This is America. Everyone is entitled to a publicist.

The only thing Q can be a real spokesman for is how to blame others for his loss

I heard Dimarzio is going by his maiden name.

No, this is America. Everyone is entitled to the publicist they can afford.

Hence, Quaglione.

I can't get over this story.

Newark is still around?

When the going gets tough at the Diocese, the Diocese calls on someone other than John Quaglione. That's what we learned today.

The DiMarzio story today was handled by the Archdiocesan PR team, because the Cardinal- Archbishop Dolan was put in charge of the inquiry by the Vatican; the Archdiocese's spokesperson has been Zwilling for a very, very long time.

The DiMarzio story today was handled by the Archdiocesan PR team, because everyone knows John Q got his job as a pity favor to Marty Golden and when a real crisis hits, John Q is not who anybody calls on

1:52 PM is John Q

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "COMPLETELY INADEQUATE STATEMENT --- SUPPOSEDLY --- BY THE 'DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN' AND ON BEHALF OF BISHOP DI MARZIO" EDITION

JUDGING FROM THE QUALITY OF THE RECENT RESPONSE OF JOHN QUAGLIONE'S IMMEDIATE BOSS, ADRIANA RODRIGUEZ, ON BEHALF OF HER BOSS, BISHOP NICHOLAS DI MARZIO; THE BROOKLYN GOP'S VERY OWN SPECIAL LEADERSHIP GUY, JOHN QUAGLIONE, IS HELPING WITH THE DAMAGE CONTROL MADE NECESSARY BY BISHOP DI MARZIO'S HISTORY WHILE A YOUNG PRIEST IN JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY

In spite of all the heraldic seals and crests indicating an official statement by or on behalf of the Bishop Ordinary of the Diocese of Brooklyn, what emanated from the "Director of Communications, Press Secretary, DeSales Media Group, Diocese of Brooklyn" and appeared as a "Statement from the Diocese of Brooklyn about the ‘Vos estis lux mundi’ probe" in the Diocesan newspaper, "The Tablet," was nothing more than the >>> SPIN - SPIN - SPIN <<< of a devilish dervish and/or a media faker posing as her principal phony fakir.

It isn't accidental that the "statement" was prominently subscribed in the name of Ms. Rodriguez. Forget all the other words in her so-called title >>> PR FLACK <<< works best under the current circumstances.....

Very little of the "statement" addresses the instances of pedophilia about which Nicholas DiMarzio is now being investigated by Cardinal Dolan on behalf of the Pope.

For the record, Adriana rodriguez' statement does not address a November 20, statement by Bishop DiMarzio promising "more information" and "transparency" regarding the charges of sex abuse that had been leveled against him by Mitchell Garabedian on behalf of a then-infant victim, Mark Matzek. On November 20th, this is exactly what Bishop DiMarzio promised to all of his followers and accusers, ".... You have a right to more information on this matter and I pledge to you continued transparency in a future column...."

As an apparent spokesperson for Bishop DiMarzio and the Diocese of Brooklyn, John Quaglione's boss did not even attempt to explain why two whole months have passed and there has been no more "information" - "detail" - "clarity" or "transparency" as to the particular abuse alleged to have been committed by Bishop DiMarzio contained in a November 2019 letter to the Newark Archdiocese by Mr. Garabedian? The only mention in the statement by Adriana Rodriguez about any of that is that attorney Garabedian has not yet filed any formal charges naming Bishop DiMarzio.

Adriana Rodriguez' statement dated January 19, 2020 is available on line (See "Statement from the Diocese of Brooklyn about the ‘Vos estis lux mundi’ probe" by Adriana Rodriguez, 1/19/20, The Tablet/ Diocesan News [https://thetablet.org/statement-from-the-diocese-of-brooklyn-about-the-vos-estis-lux-mundi-probe/]).

How can some people call themselves responsible members of the community as a whole and still line up to go to the Cathedral Club's Annual Dinner. I suppose for many of them it's "Business as Usual" regardless of the cesspool of predatory sex & corruption they are supporting. Don't make any mistake, this is a very big party for supporters of the Diocese of Brooklyn and everything it does, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

It would be interesting to know whether folks like Joseph Esposito and others on the so-called "Diocesan Review Board" which reviews and reports on allegations of sexual abuse by priests and bishops in the Diocese of Brooklyn attend major fund raising events like the Annual Cathedral Club Dinner; also whether any members of the Bishop's "designate[d] private investigative agency" for sex abuse claims or their representatives regularly attend.

This year's dinner will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 [6 PM Cocktail Hour; 7 PM Main Program Begins] at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, 811 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10019.

Now that John Q has been cast aside since the Diocese needs a real crisis communications professional, I hear he will be a bus boy at the Cathedral Club Dinner.

Anonymous said...

Oh, I'm sure he'll be there, along with disgustingly too many members of the Brooklyn GOP and Conservative Party.

And if anybody asks "where's Eaton" after that dinner, you'll know that they weren't there.

If John Q is at the cathederal club the dais is his designated seat.

Anonymous said...

Yes John Q will be at the Cathedral Club dinner and he will be dressed in a tuxedo handing out hors d'oeuvres

1155, don't be such a maroon.

Everybody but the ladies wear formal dinner jackets at the Cathedral Club Dinner, and the ladies wear gowns. JQ will certainly be a guest.

Will GM go after his buddy Eaton who has been a leader of the Cathedral Club forever and is buddies with DiMarzio?????

MORE BACKFILL: THE "JOSEPH ZWILLING IN HIS OWN WORDS" EDITION

THE EXACT QUOTE OF THE MOST RELEVANT PORTION OF JOSEPH ZWILLING'S PRESS RELEASE ABOUT CARDINAL-ARCHBISHOP TIMOTHY DOLAN'S APPOINTMENT AS THE OVERSEER OF THE "VOS ESTIS" INVESTIGATION INTO THE CHARGES OF SEXUAL ABUSE AGAINST BISHOP NICHOLAS DI MARZIO MAKES FOR VERY INTERESTING READING AND EVEN BETTER IN DEPTH ANALYSIS.....

SEVERAL VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS ARISE --- WHEN DID CARDINAL DOLAN FIRST HEAR ABOUT THE CHARGES AGAINST BISHOP DI MARZIO AND HOW DID HE FIND OUT ? --- AND --- WHEN DID POPE FRANCIS FIRST FIND OUT ABOUT THE CHARGES AGAINST BISHOP DI MARZIO AND HOW DID HE FIND OUT ??? --- WHAT DID POPE FRANCIS AND BISHOP DI MARZIO TALK ABOUT WHEN THE POPE AND DI MARZIO "DISCUSSED" THE CHARGES OF SEXUAL ABUSE LEVELED AGAINST DI MARZIO ?????

It's just a few lines, but it is pithy --- “As directed by Vos estis, Cardinal Dolan earlier notified the Holy See of the allegation that was raised concerning Bishop DiMarzio from his time as a priest in the Archdiocese of Newark. On January 7, 2020, the Cardinal received instruction from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that he is to begin an investigation.... As is our practice, the cardinal will rely on outside professional forensic investigators to assist him in this matter.... The archdiocese will have no further comment on the matter while the investigation is undertaken.”

So, it is clear and unambiguous, Cardinal Dolan's spokesperson Joseph Zwilling has stated that "... Cardinal Dolan earlier notified the Holy See of the allegation that was raised concerning Bishop DiMarzio from his time as a priest in the Archdiocese of Newark...."

Prior reports indicated that Pope Francis had directly discussed the matter with Bishop DiMarzio while both Bishop DiMarzio and Cardinal Dolan were in Rome.
