Some local GOP Nabobs met last Friday --- As you should know by now, that meeting wasn’t great shakes for ANYBODY there

BRIDGEVIEW DINER GET-TOGETHER WAS TO SETTLE ON A CONSENSUS REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR THE CITY COUNCIL IN THE 43rd COUNCIL DISTRICT  ---  AND GUESS WHAT  ---  NO DECISION  ON ANYBODY FOR NOW.....

According to my erliest source, who must have E-mailed me right after the gathering at the Bridgeview broke up,   State Senator Marty Golden was there with Congressman Dan Donovan, along with two-out-of three  of the announced Republican candidates for the city council, from Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, John Quaglione and Liam McCabe.  They all were breaking bread together in order to figure out who would be the consensus Republican candidate to be supported by the newly installed Republican organization in Brooklyn; and to smooth things out with whomever was going to be asked to bow out.  As  rumor would have it, the meeting at the Bridgeview lasted less than hour and finished at an impasse with no deal between Golden and Donovan, and/or either of the candidates involved in the talks.

DONOVAN & GOLDEN SEEM TO AGREE THAT TWO IS WEAKER THAN ONE AGAINST CAPANO

Not long after the first tip, this is what I was told by another source: the elected Republicans, who showed up at the Bridgeview meeting obviously want only a single candidate to oppose Bob Capano, whom the NEW BROOKLYN GOP COUNTY ORGANIZATION has figured out they can't control. Furthermore, everybody at the meeting wanted a decision on a candidate sooner rather than later, before the independent Republican candidate Capano's momentum would be more than the NEW BROOKLYN GOP COUNTY ORGANIZATION thinks it could handle.

MY SECOND SOURCE ON THIS STORY CONFIRMED THE MEETING HAD  OCCURRED BASED ON A CONVERSATION WITH A PARTICIPANT

At the time,  that source told me that they couldn't betray the confidence of the person who was >>> present at the Donovan-Golden-Quaglione-McCabe-Bridgeview-Meeting on Friday,  but that  someone present at the meeting
not only confirmed that it did take place as previously described to me,  but that Golden and Donovan were  obviously unable to reach any kind of agreement.

THEN, MY MOST RECENT  & BEST SOURCE ON THIS STORY  CONFIRMED THE MEETING BASED ON A CONVERSATION WITH CONGRESSMAN DONOVAN  ---  GOLDEN & DONOVAN ARE SAID TO BE AT LOGGERHEADS OVER THE COUNCIL CANDIDATES

I discussed the Friday meeting at the Bridgeview Diner with a very informed source who was looking in on Bob Capano’s fund raiser at the Bean Post on Sunday afternoon (much of this person’s version was recounted to me for deep background only)  ---  but this source says that they had discussed various aspects of this story with Congressman Donovan himself.

Also, part of the general chatter at Capano’s gathering at the Bean Post indicated that Donovan and Golden were at loggerheads over who should bow-out of the City Council race, between McCabe and Quaglione.

Lastly, since Friday many people on all sides of this asked me why the Kings County GOP Chairman Ted Ghorra apparently wasn’t there at the  Bridgeview Diner meeting and doesn’t seem to have  participated in any discussions with/about Quaglione's and McCabe's candidacies.

Hey Gaily, I think that I spoke to the same guy that you did at Capano's party at the Bean Post. He said that the whole Bridgeview thing blew up in Marty's face. He said it caused more problems in the city counsel race, already being screwed up by one of his staffers, and it raised more questions about how Golden is controlling his staff and how Golden's guy, Ghorra, is running the Brooklyn GOP.

And, Gail, I don't think that your guy only dropped in on Capano's kick-off to look in on anything. If anything he was there to help keep a lookout, and once when he was outside, HE saw Quaglione sitting in his car and eyeballing the Bean Post.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "CAPANO HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING" EDITION

CAPANO'S PRESS RELEASE ABOUT HIS SUNDAY FUND RAISER THANKS 200 SUPPORTERS

It's all in there... and the kitchen sink.....

In Capano's post-Bean Post release he talks about everything that was there and happened on Sunday --- the crowd, the food and drinks, the posters and balloons, the speeches by his co-sponsors and camapign chairmen

EHHH ! ! ! It's EXHAUSTING just describing all that's in Capano's release.

BUT NOT A WORD ABOUT THE $$$$$ --- AND WASN'T THAT THE WHOLE POINT OF THE EXCERCISE ? ? ?

Location Location Location.

I was told the meeting was supposed to take place at the Venus II, but, people were concerned about Zeferetti dropping in so they moved the meeting to the Tiffany.

The small details matter.

what a nut 10:58 is. I guess using the word "Nabobs" gave him and/or her a flashback to the 70's

Hey, 11:13 AM, the "him and/or her" crowd like to be called "they" or "them." Don't you watch "Billions" on HBO, it's on right after "Homeland" on Sunday night.

Corrections for 10:58 AM: The meeting was originally for the Tiffany, when Artie Brasco came in, it made Jim Gay flip out and he told everybody to meet back up at the Green Tea Room in fifteen minutes.

Then Jim went over to convince his boss Artie that he wasn't at a political meeting during the work day. Artie laughed and asked the waitress for a menu; and asked "What meeting is that, Jim?"

TO WHOM IT MIGHT CONCERN: THIS BLOG ISN'T THE PLACE TO ENFORCE THE PC RULES FOR COMMENTARY ABOUT TRANSGENDERS..... THIS ISN'T A TV GUIDE FOR HBO'S CABLE OFFERINGS..... AND, THIS ISN'T AN EPISODE OF ANTHONY BOURDAIN'S FAVORITE OLD DINERS OF BAY RIDGE THAT AREN'T THERE ANYMORE.....

Let's try to keep the commentary on politics in the Third Millennium, A.D. (And, yes, I did go there..... BTW, Jo Stafford sang "Long Ago and Far Away" in the Second Millennium, A.D.)

UPDATE (OOPS ! I ALREADY SAID THAT.....): THE “ANOTHER PRECINCT IS HEARD FROM” EDITION (ISN'T TWO COMMENT HEADLINES FOR JUST ONE COMMENT ???)

GERRY O’BRIEN WILL BE INVOLVED IN THE CITY COUNCIL RACE IN 2017 --- EVERYBODY IN THE 43rd COUNCIL DISTRICT CAN TAKE A DEEP CLEANSING BREATH, FOR NOW --- O’BRIEN IS ON BOARD FOR THE STEVE SAPERSTEIN CAMPAIGN FOR THE COUNCIL IN THE 48th COUNCIL DISTRICT

O’Brien is very excited about his “new face” candidate and he believes that Steve Saperstein is doing a lot right in his early campaigning. His January 15th filing shows that Steve went out and got 125 donations, 85 from inside the district, and his early war chest is over $23,000, much of it match-able.

Right now, the line-up of candidates in the 48th Council Disrtict points to a one-on-one race in the fall between Chaim M. Deutsch, the Democrat incumbent and Steven Saperstein, the Republican. What the Conservatives and other third parties might be doing is still up in the air.

11:43 left out how it all ended. They all went to the Dyker movie theater and saw The Godfather. Leo really could relate to that Fredo guy. Marty felt like Tom Hagen.

Gail, you gotta stay more on top of this stuff and stop listening to your 78s and collectable V-records of G.I. Jo Stafford. I know that you think that WW II is the last war that we really won, but you take this nostalgia thing much too far and you're losing sight of the present.

Like this, a friend of mine spoke to Liam who said he thought the Bridgeview confab was supposed to be a friendly 'let's not draw blood' gathering, but that it sure didn't turn out that way. If the other side didn't come in angry and looking for trouble from the start, they got there very quickly once the 2017 City Council campaign in Brooklyn was being discussed.

RESPONSE: THE "WHAT DID I DO, WHAT DID I SAY ? ? ?" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 1:35 PM"

Didn't you read what I wrote in my comment at 12:24 PM ?

I haven't lost sight of anything. As for Will/Liam McCabe's take on Friday's Bridgeview Diner meeting, your source is second hand and not identified. When and if I discuss what I was told about Will/Liam's part in that meeting, you will know or easily be able to figure out who my source of that information is.

The meeting was arranged by Tessio, on his territory, where McCabe would be safe. Seems Capano never made it to that meeting. Or is it just that there is no room for Bob at the table?

Capano lives in staten island and works in manhattan. I think its great that he sees an opportunity for himself in brooklyn.

Which begs the question. Why wasn't bob at the sitdown?

RESPONSE: THE "GODFATHER ANALOGY JUST DOESN'T WORK FOR THIS MEETING" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 4:25 PM"

None of the "Godfather" restaurant scenario works for last Friday's meeting at the Bridgeview Diner. Sure, both the Bridgeview in Bay Ridge and Louis in the Bronx are neutral ground --- but all the characters are a wrong fit (unless there were a version where Michael came out of the bathroom with only his dick in his hand --- then, that would be the perfect role for John Quaglione)..... The closest character to the story line is Golden as McCluskey --- but, get real, Marty Golden, a police captain ? Pfffft ! ! ! Also there were way too many people at the Bridgview --- both at the meeting and other patrons all around in the restaurant (somebody made a joke about Bob Capano being at the next table and nobody recognizing him -- but, it would have made little difference if that had been true, because the whole story about this meeting was leaking while it was happening).

at least captain mccluskey still worked. marty claims he is disabled.

Enough of this Tom Foolery.

Golden and Donovan had a meeting because they each have a staff member running for office. Do you really believe the meeting was about how to stop Bob "Third Place" Capano? Like anyone takes Mr Staten Island serious. The end result was Golden will endorse Quaglione and Donovan will endorse McCabe. Capano may get endorsed by Castimides who lost a primary for Mayor 4 years ago. Castimides is not running for Mayor again. Not that it matters.

Yes "Catsimides" is deinitely not running for Mayor, "CATSIMATIDIS" may yet throw his hat into the ring. And perhaps if those pikers on the payroll of Loser Joe Lhota had not interfered in the Republican Primary we could have been spared DeBlasio as Mayor, but the right people got paid and as long as the checks cleared they don't care who they made Mayor.

RESPONSE: THE "EXPLAIN WHY....." EDITION

WHY IS ONE SIDE IN THE MEETING USING WORDS LIKE "AMBUSH" AND TELLING EVERYBODY THAT MARTY CAN'T CONTROL HIS STAFF ???

Obviously, Bob Capano wasn't at the Bridgeview Diner last Friday (OR WAS HE ??? Somebody running for the council did send me a "heads up" E-mail about the meeting at 1:59 PM on Friday... with details starting to fill in a short time later).

So when one side at the meeting winds up saying that they felt "ambushed" who and/or what could they be talking about ?

Yesterday, somebody close to the McCabe campaign said that the last time Marty Golden was accused of being wheeled around by his staff and fed his meals through a straw, the staff made him do a "Hostage Tape" robo-call to say that he wasn't a hostage.

Expect a Golden robo-call very soon saying, "I can control my staff, I really can....."

Two dogs that aren't barking through all this are the "Kings County Chairmen" --- Kassar and Ghorra --- very suspicious, that bit of silence.....
