--- But --- To: the political reporters and the political
commentators, PUHLEEZ ! ! ! DO NOT get into any sports and entertainment news (even the goings on at the Oscars tonight) and keep
talking about things like the 2017 NYC Council races, whether there will be any
real challenger for deBlasio, or even occasionally
something about this guy, Trump
Lately, I live in fear that folks like Gerry Kassar will be
writing his weekly column about sports and entertainment instead of his insider political stuff, long-beloved in days gone by
ENOUGH OF ALL THAT CREEPING PASTIME AND LEISURE CRAP --- sports and other entertainments are like the weather, everybody feels free to talk about it/them, whether they know anything about it/them or not
Let’s keep that sort of open-ended BS limited to our
discussions of all things political, --- Political commentators need to keep their focus on POLITICS AND GOVERNMENT --- especially what should be a couple of interesting City Council races here in Southwest Brooklyn --- instead of anything and everything non-political from soup to nuts
Gerry Kassar’s column has gotten to be very watery gruel
lately. There is less there – there –
all the time. “… [P]itchers and
catchers…”; “…’President’s Day’…the day
to honor all president’s…”; and OMG not
this “…Ringling Brothers Circus…” and “…Cirque du Soliel...“
Maybe, Gerry is beginning to have some problems with the
cerebral synapses, but saying something
real and/or interesting on the sports and entertainment beat is a tougher gig than the
politics. If Gerry’s Px told him to get
some more mental exercise, the
Conservative Party Chairman and part-time amateur columnist should get some
cross-word puzzle books and leave the rest of us out of his declining year's therapies.

Are those crickets I hear after the Capano gala?
UPDATE: THE "NOW, THIS IS SOMETHING REALLY POLITICAL" EDITION
THOSE AREN'T CRICKETS, IT'S MY SQUEAKY SHOES
BOB CAPANO'S BEAN POST BASH WAS A VERY WELL ATTENDED AND LIVELY AFFAIR --- PLUS, ITS CROWD LOOKED COMPARABLE TO THE ONE MC CABE HAD AT THE LEAF A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO
The food was decent, the drinks were free and the speeches were short. So far, so good.....
The packed house looked like a Bay Ridge GOP crowd of twenty-five years ago, but speakers like Craig Eaton and Danny Esquilin spoke both about the new diversity in the district and Bob Capano's ability to attract all kinds of new people into the fold. So, to me that seemed like a bit of a disconnect, but maybe it was because all the newcomers got lost in the fold, and that would explain their non-appearance in the middle of the floor, or at the tables, or at the seats at the bar or even with the four or five smokers outside.
BUT SINCE THIS WAS A "FUND RAISER" CAPANO'S SUCCESS WILL MOSTLY BE MEASURED BY THE HAUL --- NO WORD ON THAT SO FAR..... I for sure saw at least one person fork over $50.00 in cash and fill out a donors card (btw, it wasn't me; I was invited to "cover" the event along with Harold Egeln, who told me that he is now working as a freelancer.....)
So in other words...crickets and a lot of left over ziti. Are you sure you saw someone giving $50 to get in and not receiving $50 to go in?
I attended Father El Yateen's fundraiser party. People came bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. It was PAAA--AAACKED with plenty of clergy. He has got the priest vote on locked down
Afterwards I past by the Bean Post on and saw Capano and his wife loading trays of un-eaten baked ziti into their Toyota Prius. Looked to me like they were getting ready for the long drive back home to Tottenville. I saw Ron Kuby there too!
I don't know who Capano thinks he's going to fool with these numbers. On Facebook he thanked the 198 people who he said came to his fundraiser and then thanked the 197 people from Brooklyn that came to his fundraiser. Did 198 people really attend Capano's Bean Post $$$$$ raiser and did 197 of them come from Brooklyn.
If Capano's campaign files anything that even looks close to these numbers, the NYCCFB should give it to a detective right away.
Bob's desperation is so obvious. Surely if there were all of those people someone would have been able to take a decent picture. All he posted on FB was a blurry picture of him and his three supporters.
Capano has shown that he is the clear winner.
I like that Gale went and ate free food. Not as good as the Golden shrimp party, I'm sure.
Maybe 97 of them were lost in the folds of the Bean Post.
RESPONSE: THE "WHAT I SAID AND WHAT I SAW" EDITION
TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:01 PM"
Please note that I didn't say Bob Capano's fund raiser at the Bean Post had about 100 attendees..... I did say that it was very well attended and appeared to have a comparable crowd to the one at McCabe's event at the Leaf. As I recall, it was McCabe that zeroed in on the number 100 for his event. I think when I was commenting on McCabe's event, I said something like this "... the number is probably closer to the estimate of 100 than to the estimate of 400..." If the numbers at the two events are comparable, then Capano's statements about 198 and/or 197 people could be POSSIBLE.
To reiterate, I don't know the number of Capano's attendees at the Bean Post --- whether it's closer to 100 or 200 is far more precise than any estimate I could actually make. If I had to GUESS --- maybe 150 --- maybe more --- maybe less.....

Liam's Campaign took plenty of pictures and even posted a video on Facebook. No one is foolish enough to believe Bob got more than 50 people at the Bean Post. Be careful what you are spreading because exaggerating the turnout at the fundraiser and then showing more abysmal fundraising numbers in the next report will send Bob's campaign into a tailspin.

RESPONSE: THE "IT'S NOT MY NUMBERS OR MY ESTIMATES THAT ARE IN CONTENTION" EDITION
TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 10:09 PM" [As noted: "Previously posted... at 9:47 PM"]
Well, my incredulous clod --- I am certainly here to say that I saw between 100 & 200 people at Bob Capano's fund raiser at the Bean Post. My best >>> GUESS <<< is about 150 or so, more or less.....
As for estimates, the number "100" for the McCabe event was settled upon by McCabe. The numbers "198" and "197" for the Capano event were put up on social media by Capano.
I'll "spread" whatever numbers I choose to spread, just like they're mayonnaise or Skippy Peanut Butter. If there are any exaggerations or inaccuracies in those numbers, then I would dismiss my own as "guesswork" based upon casual observations. And the other >>> numbers reported by the candidates <<< are matters to be taken up with the candidate(s) himself/themselves.....
I've been in phone booths bigger than the Bean post. If 20 people showed the place would be packed. Once Gale bellys up to the bar (we all know about those sharp elbows) it becomes standing room only.
The Bean post on a Sunday afternoon? Just shoot me
RESPONSE: THE "PLACE TO BE ON A HARDY SUNDAY AFTERNOON" EDITION
TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... 12:14 AM"
You must be another of the "Odd Man Out" crowd, I'll bet you are Green with envy.....
The Bean Post was so much the "in place" to be yesterday afternoon that even candidate John Quaglione had to be there in the flesh..... (Some extreme reports say that he was outside and had his face pressed up against one of those little panes of glass in the Bean Post's french doors looking in on the Capano crowd inside and wishing that he had invited Capano to be at his Bridgeview meeting --- the whole scene was almost Dickensian, well really, it was more like Thomas Hardy.)
Since, JQ was there to eyeball Capano's $$$$$ event, maybe somebody should ask Quags for his estimate of Capano's crowd.
BTW, I have it on the best authority that the CAPANO CAMPAIGN PAID the Bean Post for JUST OVER ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY-FIVE (175) guests..... HMMMMM ! ! ! A crowd like that would have looked really good in the Bay Ridge Manor; too bad Marty G. couldn't get the booking.
Well they must have taken a huge loss because days before Capano sent a Facebook message offering to let people in for $25 if they brought friends with them. Capano had another disappointing event yesterday that is why he took down the two blurry pictures from Facebook.
Gail, why haven't reported on the long conversation you had at the Bean Post with somebody who told you they had spoken to Congressman Donovan about his meeting with Golden at the Bridgeview last week?
RESPONSE: THE "ALL THINGS IN GOOD TIME" EDITION
TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 9:36 AM"
First, for the 50th time, it's "Gale" or "Galewyn" --- NOT "GAIL"
Second, yes there was such a conversation at the Bean Post and much of it was for deep background only..... Let's just say this: our Congressman was not satisfied by a lot of what went down at the Bridgeview.....
Enough said --- for now.....
UPDATE: THE “STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH” EDITION
BOB CAPANO REPORTS ON HIS OWN FUND RAISER --- AS SEEN EARLIER TODAY ON FACEBOOK BY & FOR >>> BOB CAPANO, A BROOKLYN REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR CITY COUNCIL
Here’s the news so many of you have been clamoring for and it’s almost fresh from the horse’s mouth:
“Robert Capano added 15 new photos — with Domenico Vaccaro and 11 others… 4 hrs ‘Thank you to the 180+ supporters who joined me at my city council campaign kick-off fundraiser at The Bean Post in Bay Ridge yesterday. Together, we will bring new leadership to our community and City Hall….” (See “Robert Capano @facebook.com [with slide show of photos from the Bean Post], 2/27/17

I am glad Bob posted the pictures. There is no way he had more than 50 people in there and that would be a generous estimate.
A few hundred republicans will be voting in the primary. They know who is who. Bob is known as the staten island guy. Thats because he lives in staten island.
A few thousand Republicans will be voting in the Primary. Duh.
In that case I'm sure Bob will fool them. Duh
Only person Bob is fooling is himself.
