Just twenty something years after the Soviet Union threw in the towel in the cold war, Russia’s Vladimir Putin has decided that he can make Barack Hussein Obama sit at the back of a Moscow bus and get away with it. Even while the White House is uttering mealy-mouth protests, the news has hit that, because of some un-named and un-described, but “credible,” security threat(s) to American embassies across North Africa and through the Mid-East, the United States will be closing several of these embassies for some time into the future.

According to a CNN report, “A State Department travel alert Friday said al Qaeda may launch attacks in the Middle East, North Africa and beyond, as the United States is closing 21 embassies and consulates Sunday as a precaution. *** ‘Current information suggests that al Qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August,’ said the alert, which covers the entire month.” (See “U.S. issues travel alert, will close embassies due to al Qaeda threat” by Chris Lawrence. Rep. C.A. "Dutch" Ruppersberger of Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence panel, said he supported the State Department's decision to go public with its concerns. Ruppersberger said the US has invested greatly in research and protection system for US embassies and citizens since the Benghazi attack. Ruppersberger said, "Intelligence is probably the best defense against terrorist attacks.... Intelligence isn't always an exact science, but you have to react and you have to prepare. So we put people on notice and we also put the other side on notice." Adam Schiff of California, another Democrat on House intelligence, said he was briefed on the matter this week and called the State Department's decision to close embassies a "prudent" step. *** "I hope it will be of short duration," he said.
