Is the use of the VERY OLD mechanical ELECTION MACHINES an invitation to ELECTION FRAUD ? Has that been the plan all along ?

                          —    PART 1 IN A MULTI-PART SERIES   —

HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT  —  State Senator Martin Golden openly boasted about the legislation he sponsored to allow the use of the NYC BOE’s archaic lever-operated voting machines in the upcoming primary elections

What if the real purpose of  Golden’s voting machine legislation  —  AND his part in the City Council-BOE coup to change GOP Commissioners  —  AND his support for the “Republicans for Change” effort to take over the Brooklyn GOP were really part and parcel of somebody's attempt to steal the 2013 primary election and change the course of city politics for all the parties and the people of New York City?

Already there has been a dispute about when candidates would be given necessary information about reviewing the setup of the lever voting machines significantly ahead of their deployment for the September 10th  primary (See “NYC Board Of Elections Moving Closer To Deploying Old Lever Machines For Primary” by Celeste Katz, 8/20/13, Daily News/Daily Politics [http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/2013/08/nyc-board-of-elections-moving-closer-to-deploying-old-lever-machines-for-prima]). The old lever machines -- which will sub for the recently used ballot scanners only for this year’s NYC  primaries and a likely runoff to follow -- will be distributed  to the polling sites on September 3rd and 4th,  about a week before the primary on September 10th .

The New York City Board of Elections, is getting thousands of voting machines out of storage and ready for primary day.  Each of these 50 years old monsters weighs about 850 pounds and should have about 28,000 parts, with 20,000 of them moving parts, to work properly. A six-story warehouse in Brooklyn is the storage space for rows and rows of the infernal lever voting machines  ( it should be noted, however, that a least one article about the old machines says that they are stored in two (2) warehouses in Brooklyn). Each machine had been wrapped in what looks like a huge condom, safe and secure, and  ready to go for whatever might pop up ( See “New York Turns To Old Voting Machines For Upcoming Primary” by Brigid Bergin, July 14, 2013, NPR/WNYC
[http://www.npr.org/2013/07/14/202124768/new-york-turns-to-old-voting-machines-for-upcoming-primary]).

>>>>  AS IF  —  that is what EVERYBODY wants  —  ie., that these machines would  work properly on primary day. <<<<    Stored silently in their Brooklyn warehouse, these mechanical monoliths appear somewhat less than ready to f__k the unsuspecting voting public, but that is about to change quickly.  ( I have suspected all along that there is a nefarious  purpose in this exercise of electoral  nostalgia that has been championed by Republican State Senator Martin Golden).

Shortly after Golden’s law was reluctantly signed by Governor Cuomo, after very strong opposition by "good-government" groups, State Senator Golden’s personal choice to serve on the NYC Board of Election felt obliged to make a public statement about the Board’s action in authorizing the use of the very old voting machines pursuant to Golden’s newly passed law. According to the New York Times, Simon Shamoun, the Republican elections commissioner from Brooklyn, somewhat cryptically said, “Obviously this process has been a wake-up call for us.” Then Shamoun added that the optical scanning machines “are not going anywhere.... We have four years to figure it out, and hopefully we’re not in this position next time around.” ( See “Lever Voting Machines and New Runoff Date Are Approved by Cuomo" by Thomas Kaplan, 7/9/13, NY Times [http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/10/nyregion/cuomo-approves-the-use-of-lever-voting-machines.html?_r=0]).  "...four years to figure it out...." !  Really,   FOUR  YEARS  ! ! !  What's up with that ?

Interestingly,  Shamoun had been selected to be the Brooklyn Republican Election Commissioner by Golden as the result of a process in which Golden had no legal standing to participate. Since, and as a result of Shamoun's becoming a Board of Elections Commissioner, there have been several changes at the BOE, from executive appointees down to low level clerks. There have also been changes in what and how things are done at the Board, and by whom. The oft-repeated phrase, "There's a new sheriff in town..." has become a hallmark at the Brooklyn Board since Shamoun has been piped aboard.

Several candidates and other observers have already warned about the general unreliability of the archaic voting machines with dire prophecies concerning the 2013 primary . They have specifically  predicted widespread problems with machine breakdowns, especially in minority areas (See “This September May Be New York City’s Voting Apocalypse” by Hunter Walker, 8/15/13, Talking Points Memo [http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2013/08/nyc-voting-apocalypse.php]).

Of particular interest in the TPM article was the significant mention of a shortage of parts and the odd observation that “preventive maintenance” was being performed on the old machines some time before the legislation had passed to authorize their use for the 2013 primary ( See comments of Councilman Jumaane Williams in the article cited above). This is very important, because one of the ways to steal votes on the old machines is by specific fixes to some parts of  the machines by the technicians who maintain them up to and including on the day of voting. These are Board of Elections employees, ALL of whom are now under the executive and administrative control of another unexpected new sheriff in town —  who, incidently was put in place by a cabal subject to Golden’s influence.

>>>>  BTW:  Let’s not forget the episode earlier this summer about the petition that had been filed by Golden’s adversaries inside the Brooklyn GOP, which was shredded after filing by the BOE employee   because of a "mis-communication." <<<<

This post was a shorthand teaser of what I intend to cover about the events leading up to the current re-introduction of the old lever operated voting machines, as well as their use and abuse in past elections. This will take a few or perhaps several posts over the coming days and weeks. Several of my Baker Street Irregulars are digging up technical details and others have promised specific anecdotes. If you have something to contribute, there are many ways to do so.

It is all about Gerry Kassar. He works for Marty Golden. He backstabbed David Storobin by supporting Simcha Felder. He endorsed pro-choice David Greenfield (http://unitedtosaveamerica.blogspot.com/2013/08/david-greenfield-votes-for-resolution.html) over pro-life Joseph Hayon.

The FBI should take a good sniff at Kassar.

Focus ! Focus ! Focus !

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Jerry Kassar might well be involved in some or all of this; in fact, given that his boss State Senator Martin Golden was the front man that pushed the law to allow use of the old voting machines [and probably also worked the levers behind the scenes at the BOE to get them to go along with that], it’s tough to see how Kassar would not have been completely caught up in all of this.

BUT, for any vendetta that you might have against Kassar — All in due time... — All in due time.... Don't go dropping any dimes to your favorite Fed, or calling AG Holder just yet !

On the other hand, since you mentioned Felder and Greenfield, let me tell you that when it comes to pushing the use of the old lever-type mechanical voting machines in the 2013 municipal primaries and possibly a runoff or two; based on the press record alone, they are into this up to their balls – eyeballs, that is.

Simcha Felder has been with Golden on this since the beginning, co-sponsoring Golden’s State Senate Bill along with Republican State Senator Lanza and Felder’s “fellow” crypto-Democrat Diane Savino. It’s notable that the first press release about the senate bill to authorize the use of the old lever-style voting machines came from Felder and not Golden – that was on March 11th following the filing of the proposed bill on March 8th. But make no mistake about, in the NYS Senate, this bill has been Marty Golden’s baby, and Lanza, Savino and Felder have been his midwives.

City Councilman David Greenfield (D-C, Borough Park Midwood) is a very interesting player in the overall game that was afoot to switch to the old lever-type voting machines in the 2013 primaries. His participation is especially interesting, because for a while he had a personal stake in how the 2013 primaries would be conducted. Now this gets pretty deep in the weeds pretty quickly, so bear with me.

Although not one of the original proponents of Golden and Felder’s attempt to use the old voting machines in the 2013 NYC primaries in February and March 2013; in April and May, David Greenfield became a leading spokesman along with State Senator Golden in favor of using the old machines. At that time Greenfield was the key spokesman and operator in the City Council in publicizing the “NEED” for the NYC BOE to return to using the older mechanical lever operated machines. His interest was probably piqued because he had skin in the game, because Chaim Israel was lining up significant support to run against Greenfield in the 2013 Democratic Primary, with some talk of simultaneously doing an OTB on the Conservative Party line.

Councilman David Greenfield also shrewdly covered his tracks so as to cover his personal interest in using the older voting machines in the 2013 Democratic or Conservative Party Primary. He did this by craftily introducing a proposal in the City Council to petition the U.S. Congress to pass an amendment to the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) so as to allow a return to the old lever-operated voting machines in ALL elections, including federal elections. However, it should be clear to all that any argument Greenfield might make in favor of his Council resolution would also be applicable to the more limited bill in the legislature, which called for the use of the machines in the 2013 NYC municipal primaries – AND thus specifically be applicable to any race against any opponent that Greenfield might have had to face in either the prospective Democratic or Conservative Party Primaries in 2013.

Kassar is 100 percent involved in this. His boss Marty Golden was the sponsor and most of the senate co-sponsors and City Councilman Greenfield all have or recently had the endorsement of Kassar’s Conservative Party. Plus Kassar is on record in his newspaper column supporting and praising putting the old voting machines back into use for the 2013 election when he wrote all of what is below here...

“As of this writing the State legislature is primed to pass legislation authored by Senator Marty Golden allowing the Board of Elections to run this year’s elections using the lever machine which was successfully used for many generations. The need to mothball for this election the scanning machines which have been in use since 2011 is the inability for the new machines to be prepared in a timely fashion for a runoff which will almost certainly happen with the Democratic primary.” Jerry Kassar’s “Common Sense” in the Home Reporter Posted: Tuesday, June 11, 2013 3:51 pm | Updated: 3:55 pm, Tue Jun 11, 2013. And also...

“Golden had a number of important economic development bills passed by both houses and received a great deal of attention for sponsoring the return of the lever voting machines for this year’s primary and run-off elections.” Jerry Kassar’s “Common Sense” in the Home Reporter Posted: Tuesday, June 25, 2013 2:07 pm | Updated: 2:08 pm, Tue Jun 25, 2013.

I have a record of JK's writings that includes more cites/sites than this, I'll focus on all of those in a later post.

Since you mentioned these, the most important line in what was quoted above is this: "...The need to mothball for this election the scanning machines which have been in use since 2011 is the inability for the new machines to be prepared in a timely fashion for a runoff which will almost certainly happen with the Democratic primary...."

Why is a Republican State Senator and his Chief of Staff, who is chairman of the Brooklyn Conservative Party, so obsessed with the DEMOCRATIC PARTY Primary in 2013 ?

BACKFILL: In connecting the dots, its' not about what Kassar says or writes about, it's what he does, who he is backing in any given election and how hard he is working for those candidates that he is backing.

To get the bigger picture, you need to connect dots like these:
Last week somebody posted a comment that Kassar was working for Democrat candidates passing out Democrat literature for the upcoming Democrat Party Primary;
Why is Jerry Kassar the Conservative Party Chairman carrying and passing out Democratic literature for Democrat candidates in an upcoming Democrat Party primary?
Kassar was seen along with a crew of well known Bay Ridge Conservative Party activists like Fran Vella-Marone and Liam McCabe;
Why were they all working for these Democrat candidates by handing out Democratic Party Primary material at various Catholic churches last week?
It looked like the Conservatives were part of a bigger campaign effort, because part of what was witnessed at one of the Bay Ridge churches was somebody from the local Dems, who came by, spoke to Kassar and was obviously there to check up that he and the other Conservatives were giving out the Democrat Primary literature at those specific churches.

The fact that the Conservatives are being open and notorious in working with the Democrats in their PRIMARY CAMPAIGN shows what a big deal this is --- it shows how far somebody is willing to go to win A DEMOCRAT PRIMARY.

Connect those dots.

It started with Greenfield's special election and the Golden-Kassar-Skelos activities in that community ever since. Including working against an incumbent Republican-Conservative David Storobin to elect Democrat Simcha Felder. All these people are behind using the old voting machines. This is the same dirty dealing and corruption going far back.

Some other important things are going on among some Heredi community and neighborhoods where cynics like Kassar and Golden and Skelos have no control over. Like with Dov Hikind's wife supporting Erick Salgado for mayor along with “Conservative Party” candidates John Burnett for Comptroller and David Storobin for City Council, all running together on the School Choice Party line.
