For some reason, the mainstream media isn't very enthused about this news:
U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon indicated yesterday (Saturday, August 27, 2022) that she was most likely going to grant former President Donald Trump's request for the appointment of a "special master" to oversee the FBI's review of documents seized at his Mar-a-Lago home on August 8th.
Earlier this month, President Trump's legal team had argued in court that it was "unreasonable to allow the prosecutorial team to review [the seized documents] without meaningful safeguards.... Short of returning the seized items to the movant, only a neutral review by a special master can protect the 'great public interest' in preserving 'the confidentiality of conversations that take place in the president's performance of his official duties...'."
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon issued a two-page notice on Saturday indicating that it was her "... preliminary intent to appoint a special master in this case...." And she set a hearing to finalize her decision for September 1st, which is Thursday this coming week.
In her notice, Judge Cannon also directed the DOJ to provide a fuller description of what FBI agents seized when they raided Mar-a-Lago on August 8th.
A "special master" can be appointed by a federal judge to carry out various actions on its behalf. Sometimes, that might be to ensure that certain proceedings are conducted so as to observe all privileges and constitutional safeguards, which might be called for by all sides in a particular dispute --- under all the unique or unusual, and/or conflicted or otherwise problematic circumstances that might be present.

Funny, I've seen it all over the media.
And it addresses only alleged privilege and docs going beyond the search warrant's scope and is another Donald delaying tactic.
Nobody is going to let a real independent "special master" or neutral observer watch what Biden's FBI and DOJ is doing behind the curtain to Trump, much less to decide whether what they are doing is right or wrong under the U.S. Constitution. More important, nobody is going to let there be a chink in the chain of command running from the lowest informants and FBI agents involved in this operation against Trump up through the FBI and DOJ, all the way into the White House up to Biden and/or his handlers.
I'm sure this special master will smack down the federal prosecutors and the FBI. And then everything will be fine.

Judge Cannon's formal filed notice to the parties said this: "Pursuant to Rule 53(b) (1) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the Court’s inherent authority, and without prejudice to the parties’ objections, the Court hereby provides notice of its preliminary intent to appoint a special master in this case...." And the federal judge also ordered the DOJ to file a response by Aug. 30 and to provide the court a "... more detailed Receipt for Property specifying all property seized pursuant to the search warrant executed on August 8, 2022...."
The people involved at the Justice Dept are all political appointees. The top people at the FBI involved are political appointees. I wonder if this is politicized?
Trump-appointee Cannon cited "all property seized" because that's literally the only way to weigh claims of alleged privilege and docs beyond the warrant's scope.
And yes, this is another Donald delaying tactic. He'll file complaints and motions v. bags of chips as long as the RNC keeps paying his legal bills. And it gives him something new to scream about so he can grift another (personal) $100 million from poor-sucker "patriots."
