Theodore Ghorra’s > open and notorious < deficits as Brooklyn GOP Leader are tied directly to his practice of law

Let’s start by saying that Ted is altogether too proud that he’s a partner in some law firm named “Nixon  Peabody”  ---  he’s a “partner” with an inflated sense of self in a firm with an inflated sense of itself…..  (Here’s a hint about that  ---  guess who thinks they rate an “A”  when the industry they’re in  says they’re a  “B-"…..)

Next,  we ALL pretty much agree that Ted Ghorra is the Brooklyn GOP “Chairman” in name only  ---  but who can tell you why ?????   Of course,  it’s the one and only independent GOP blogster for the well informed in Brooklyn,  and that other place with the big buildings that sure ain’t Staten Island, The Bronx or Queens

Except for a few lesser ancillary activities,  Teddy G never ever did the real grunt work of party organizing at the district, and then the county-wide level, that people like Lucretia R-P, Clorinda A, Gladys P, Celeste A, Phyllis C, Beth B, Joan B  and Diane H-R did so often that they had it deep in their bones;  so deep that it was all the way down into the marrow inside their bones…..  (BTW,  here’s a hint how you know who’s done the real work  ---  when there are election cases,  look who gets called in as witnesses by the opposition and/or who has all the notes to prompt the attorneys for their side what to ask the witnesses on the other side  ?????)

So,  what say we get into this Ted Ghorra lawyering stuff a little bit…..

Ted Ghorra ?   Nixon Peabody ???  ---  You gotta be kiddin’ me !!!

Let’s start with they’ve referred to themselves as a  “Millennial”  law firm…..

Seriously ?   ---   I mean SERIOUSLY !!!!!   As if that were a GOOD thing.

Is this somebody’s idea of a joke over there at N-P ???  ---  NOT LIKELY,  the place is notorious for having absolutely no sense of humor  ---  what a bunch of  “Glum Gusses  and Gwendolines”…..  And don’t get me started on when and where the firm actually WAS established  (hint,  it ain’t in this millennium,  nor even in the last century  [check out “Peabody & Brown” and Boston];   so math,  vocabulary and accuracy might not be their strongest suits at N-P,  whether it’s in Boston, New York or any place else).   Who knows, maybe,  the “Millennial” rebrand was an attempt to get away from Ghorra's firm's hide-bound,  stuck in the mud,  and Boston-culture reputation.....

More about the firm in a bit…..   Let’s talk some about Ted…..

Ted Ghorra just ain’t one of your typical “Bay Ridge Lawyers,”  with all THAT means.   Don’t get me wrong,  I used to be a Bay Ridge lawyer and I still use one.   I’ve had many friends, and even more acquaintances,  who were presidents of the Bay Ridge Lawyers,  etc.,  etc.,  etc…..   No,  Ted is definitely much more “White Shoe,” with all THAT means…..   (Now,  don’t get me wrong,  I have a few friends and even a relative or two who are at  some  “White Shoe”  shops.   At my last couple of Met games,  I was in the company of a lawyer who is at the #5 law firm in the country,  and is up for partner there.  And what I like most about those big firms,  if you have business there,  you can get free Danish and coffee  ---  and stare at the younger attorneys just taking the free bottles of Poland Spring).

There’s the rub  ---  Teddy G. was an associate at  >>> Proskauer Rose <<<  and I’m pretty sure that I had Danish and coffee there a couple of times over the years.

Now, that’s very good indeed…..   So,  why did Teddy G pack all his boxes,  leave P-R and show up with his hat in his hand at N-P (Okay,  maybe he didn’t have a hat…..),  but why did he make the move  ?????      I guess,  Ted will have to tell you that,  himself…..   (BTW,  to put all this in a little perspective,  Proskauer was ranked 27th  by Bloomberg News in 2017  ---  while Nixon Peabody came in at “78” [not shabby at all  ---  but definitely not “27th”]).   At any rate,   unless Ted Ghorra is a big-time “rain maker,”  he has to keep his billables up,  even if he is some kind of a partner.   In other words, he just doesn’t have enough available time to be a good Kings County Republican Chairman.

Back to Peabody...  Whatever

I had lots more detailed dirt  about Ghorra’s latest law firm,  but I didn’t dig it up myself;  so,  I can’t vouch for it.   Nonetheless, there do appear to be lots of stories to tell about good old  >>> Nixon Peabody <<<  …..   Start your own search on Google or any other search engine using these terms:  “Nixon Peabody”  and  “Above the Law, ”   maybe even throw in  "Joe Patrice."   I’m sure you’ll find some interesting morsels there,  as well as leads for other good stuff…..

Get with it Gale! Ghorzbaby's firm looks like it has.
"Big-deal law firm Nixon Peabody is moving its D.C. offices — and, in the process, is getting a makeover.
Goodbye, pretentious marble, hierarchical office layout and heavy desks; hello, open floor plans, glass walls, solar panels, optional standing desks and a video wall featuring do-gooder stories.
According to the Washington Post, the firm adopted the move as a cost-cutting measure, but one that signifies the triumph of a new generation of office workers.
“Several years ago, the attitude of law-firm partners was, ‘Millennials are going to have to be like us.’ But very quickly, they learned, they’re not going to be like us. And we need to adapt,” said Nixon Peabody chief executive Andrew Glincher. “We need to be open to new ideas and keenly aware of what motivates millennials. Especially if we want to attract and retain top talent.”
Millennials for the win."

PS
Is Cynthia Nixon the named partner in Nixon Peabody?

Your way off..candidates looking to run this year are talking to Ghorra, not your buddies Eaton and Capano..they are nobodies and irrelevant..

Such big time law firms.

Maybe he runs the copy machine?

Free "Danish" you say.

the last person I heard asking about "Danish" was Murry The Wig in Godfellas.

Or is that Murry The Whig?

Rockefeller didnt give a Picasso to George Clark. He gave it to Meade.

Get the picture?

Oh yeah. A towering attorney from the Bay ridge lawyers is what we need.

I'd prefer an attorney who isnt chasing a closing on a time share

Anonymous said...

Eaton who??????????
noone has seen him in months in Bay Ridge

Anonymous said...

Why is anyone posting comments about Craig "The Nobody" Eaton?

Anonymous said...

Wasn't Ted Ghorra the attorney on the cases "James V. Forrestal" and "Sebastian V. Gorka"?

Anonymous said...

Oops, I left out "Norman V. Peale"

Anonymous said...

Maybe Eaton should put his big boy pants on and try and beat Chairman Ghorra.

Anonymous said...

What matters is advancing the GOP agenda of candidates for all state wide offices. The Republican party has revived the economy with the lowest unemployment in history.

That's what Ted Ghorra has accomplished during his time a chair of the largest county organization in New York State.

Anonymous said...

The sun came up this Thursday morning, and then it did it again today, that's much more significant than anything 7:10 PM said Ted Ghorra did abou unemployment and the economy. Did Ghorra make those things happen too?

Anonymous said...

Only one chairman made all that happen, Kings County Reform Party Chairman Robert Capano.

Anonymous said...

If Bob Capano remained in the Republican Party, he would have taken on Chairman Ted Ghorra next year and beat him.

Instead, Bob thought it was more important to work to have the Reform Party the powerhouse party of New York State.

There is real power in REFORM and there is no real power in the Republican Party.

At least Bob Capano would be smart enough to keep Marty Golden from putting his head in a noose with that stupid "Safety First" puff piece by Paula Katinas in the Brooklyn Eagle. Quaglione probably thought it was good PR.

Safety First? Marty Golden is the Jack the Ripper of automobile safety; and who does he think he's kidding?

Yesterday, a NY Post Editorial said that drivers like State Senator Marty Golden need to have points put on their licenses for speed-cam violations, and then have a speeding scoff-law like Golden's license revoked automatically. Since speed-cams have been installed, Golden has been a repeat offender of the speeding laws, many times those speeding violations have been around schools during the school day.
The Post's editorial writer thinks that somebody like Marty Golden should forfeit his driving privileges before somebody gets killed, but in Marty's case it would be before he kills AGAIN.
Golden's "Safety First" interview in the Brooklyn Eagle is a typical piece of an old politician's hypocrisy, don't let him get away with it and fool you with something like that AGAIN.

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 7:44 AM"

I CAN ONLY WISH THAT MY DEMOCRAT CITY COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE SPENDS SOME OF HIS VALUED TIME READING MY HUMBLE BLOG..... HOWEVER, IN THIS CASE, YOUR POTSHOT AT JUSTIN B. WENT WAY WIDE OF THE MARK..... I'M PRETTY SURE THAT I KNOW WHO WROTE THE POST EDITORIAL-"SAFETY FIRST" COMMENT ABOVE, EVEN WITHOUT CHECKING-OUT THE URL --- IT'S A REPUBLICAN (NOT A REFORM PARTY MEMBER) AND SOMEBODY THAT HAS RUN FOR OFFICE AS A REPUBLICAN AND CONSERVATIVE, AND IT IS SOMEBODY THAT I HAVE BOTH PRAISED AND CRITICIZED OVER THE YEARS (EVEN POKED FUN AT OCCASIONALLY)..... WHEN YOU GET A CALL FROM SOMEBODY THAT MENTIONS SOMETHING AND THEN SEE IT IN PRINT ON THIS BLOG --- WELL, YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A REGULAR FOLLOWER OF BRIT CRIMES ON PBS TO FIGURE IT OUT (BTW, STAY OUT OF MIDSOMER --- IT'S JUST NOT SAFE THERE)

Aimlessly lashing out when you see or read something you don't like on this blog is just plain stupid..... Answer, rebut or reasonably countervale against it --- don't just try to bash Justin B. or Bob C. or Craig E. with a pointless jibe.....

Anonymous said...

Justin reads this blog and posts so do some of his staffers and they actually get a kick out of it and joke about it. Find it a little odd that you seem so star struck about it GM.

The point of this blog is to note that Ted Ghorra has not had a series of low level political jobs at the board of elections. Thats true. I understand that an accomplished partner at an international law firm is breaking the pattern. A pattern that has brought down the GOP.

The time has come to recognize that Ghorra has brought prestige, organization, and, structure to the Brooklyn organization. No Ted is not looking for a job or a consulting fee. Ted has a goal to revive a party and steer the ship through a storm, and, to clean house of opportunists for hire.

You know who you are.

Anonymous said...

The poster at 10:46 must have stumbled on to this site from another galaxy. No one said Ted is looking for a job or for consulting fees, that's his boss Jerry's specialty. Under Ted Ghorra the Brooklyn GOP is being dismantled bit by bit whatever bits are left. We are the only County organization in the City that doesn't have an office and sorry Dom Sarta's basement doesn't count as an office just claiming that is an embarrassment. There is no county organization and that is why Q lost his race. And the funny thing is that when Ted isn't taking orders from his boss Jerry Kassar his only political adviser is the biggest GOP opportunist for hire south of Westchester.

Anonymous said...

Brooklyn is south of westchester?

Anonymous said...

Ted has united the republican and conservative party to produce winning results the brooklyn GOP has not seen in decades. Hiring political consultants who pretend to be republicans is not going to accomplish anything. The results are transparent.

RESPONSE: THE "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU FOLKS TALKING ABOUT ???" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 10:46 AM" & "... AT 1:00 PM"

I THINK THAT "... AT 10:46 AM" MISSED THE PRINCIPAL POINTS IN MY MAIN POST ABOVE ABOUT LAWYER TED GHORRA --- AND I'M PRETTY CERTAIN THAT "... AT 1:00 PM" NEEDS TO TAKE SOME VERY STRONG ANTI-PSYCHOTIC PHARMACEUTICALS..... IF SOME FOLKS DIDN'T HAVE SOME SERIOUS DELUSIONS, THEY MIGHT HAVE NO "LUSIONS" AT ALL

All of the women, whose IDs I provided above, did not hold low level posts at the BOE --- however, a couple did hold some very high positions at the "... Board...". None of that was what I meant when I said this: "... Teddy G never ever did the real grunt work of party organizing at the district, and then the county-wide level, that people like Lucretia R-P, Clorinda A, Gladys P, Celeste A, Phyllis C, Beth B, Joan B and Diane H-R did...." Those women did petitioning over and over again, year in and year out; they also organized the County Committee slates in their various ADs; and when necessary, they did battle with competing slates vying for CC slots in their turf, and most participated in at least one GOP County Convention fight, with all that such a fight might entail. A couple participated in several County Convention fights over the years.

My overriding point is that it is long-past the time for a WOMAN to hold the "Chair" of the Kings County Republican Party --- several of the women that I named have more credentials and a better skill set than Ted Ghorra. Knowing stuff about the SEC and FINRA don't count for shit in the world of county- and state-wide Republican politics, and I sincerely doubt that there are any congruences with anything going on inside the GOP at the national level either. (BTW, what ever did happen to the draft of the Obamacare "wipeout" and/or "fix' that was worked-on by at least one of the partners [and who knows how many others] at Nixon Peabody ???)

Furthermore, as for anything resembling --- a "united the republican and conservative party" that can "produce winning results the brooklyn GOP has not seen in decades...." >>> What weed are you smokin' ????? I want to invest in the operation that produced it before some giant like Altria buys them out.....

Anonymous said...

Eaton and Capano are irrelevant.

Anonymous said...

The valid points made by 1:00 may not be getting through. The "County Convention Fights" and the litigation involved are over. Ted Ghorra has won, the others lost.

The other people listed who did petitioning and organized county committee slates performed admirable work. But its small time busy work that led the party to the brink of ruin till Ted took over and breathed life back into a ship that was about to sink.

Anonymous said...

I think 3:48 is making the point that Ted Ghorra won the seat as county GOP chair. Others lost.

Maybe if we support the duly elected party chair instead of freelancing political consultants whose only goal is personal gain then 2018 will be the year for victory.

Anonymous said...

Ted Ghorra won the seat in Court not at the County Committee Meeting. He has brought nothing to the party, instead he’s turned over the keys as they dismantle it and laugh their heads off. Q lost his race because Ghorra supported Liam as ordered by Kassar and then he provided zero support in the general. Even people who supported Ted are having meetings without trying to figure out how to save the party.

Anonymous said...

Teds a jerkoff

Anonymous said...

Teds the Chairman.

Anonymous said...

Ted’s Jerry’s gopher.

Anonymous said...

Stop all the nonsense about Ted Ghorra accomplishing anything as the Kings County Republican Chairman. Ted Ghorra is as feckless as a body and soul can be when it comes to being the person to lead the Brooklyn GOP, and the proof of that is that he sees the leadership of the Conservative Party as his allies, and the New York State Conservative Party itself as a natural ally of the Republican Party in New York State. The truth is that the Conservatives are not now and they never have been allied in interest with Republicans, even conservative Republicans.
Republican County Chairmen Arthur Bramwell, Hy Singer, Craig Eaton and Arnaldo Ferraro all saw the Brooklyn Conservative Party as the everpresent enemy of the Brooklyn Republican Party.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely, Gail, after the Brooklyn GOP worked very hard to elect George Pataki in 1994, when it came time to staff the whole operation, and anything had to do with "Brooklyn's share" all of the real goodies and influence went to the Brooklyn Conservatives, and they have been in charge ever since. Many was the day that politicos were lined up with their wish lists at the counter of Long's Wines and Liquors in Bay Ridge (it wasn't as bad in Queens, where Serf had become a Republican and Tom Long was left to run things for the Conservatives).

Anonymous said...

Poster at 8:20 makes a good point. And as soon as Pataki wasn’t signing the Cons paychecks they dropped him like a bad habit and haven’t done a thing for him since.

Anonymous said...

Two points above cant be more clear.

When the conservatives took charge in 1994 the GOP had everything. Left to themselves the GOP loses it all.

Anonymous said...

9:49 makes no sense. The jig is up there is room for a GOP or a Con party in Brooklyn not both. They might get a reprieve because Ghorra is in charge of Brooklyn GOP but it’s the beginning of the end for the Cons sooner or later they’re done.

Galewyn Massey said...

RESPONSE: THE "ONLY HOPE FOR REPUBLICANS" EDITION

TO MOST OF THE ABOVE ON MARCH 11

THE ONLY HOPE FOR A REPUBLICAN PARTY"S RISING LIKE A PHOENIX FROM ITS ASHEN STATE IS THE REFORM PARTY --- BUT ONLY IF THEY CAN SUCCEED IN COCK-BLOCKING THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY AT EACH AND >>>EVERY<<< TURN

That means any spot where there is a Conservative Candidate on the line, a DIFFERENT candidate must be on the Reform line.

Anonymous said...

The GOP is long dead. And its not because of Long.

The conservatives are not going to carry this corpse around much longer.

Anonymous said...

Hynes defeat cost the Cons a few patronage jobs. Dan Donovan has already started phasing out the Cons, once Marty is done they’ll have nothing left.
The one good thing about Ghorra being in charge is that everyone realizes that this Jerry’s plan to end the Brooklyn GOP, but they’re going to outlast the Cons, maybe not by much but there’s 100,000 of us in the borough and four thousand of them.

Anonymous said...

You got it backwards 11:38

The conservatives are phasing out Donovan. Not the other way around. And as for Marty just exactly who is going to beat him? Ross Barkanstein?

Anonymous said...

The Cons are trying to play Grimm and Donovan against each other but Danny already on to them. As for Golden, how many more terms do you think he has left one or two? After that the Cons are done in Brooklyn.

Anonymous said...

Grimm will win. Donovan will become a judge. Golden gets re-elected. Cuomo gives Long whatever he wants.

Sounds like Kassar really screwed up this time.

Anonymous said...

Dan Donovan will win the Primary in unexpectedly easy fashion and then win the general in a harder than anticipated contest. Danny cleans house in the Brooklyn Office and gets rid of all the no snow jobs for the Cons, Jerry scrambles to keep up appearances of the once impressive patronage mill.

Anonymous said...

Eaton and Capano have proved themselves as only ones with the balls to stand up to Kassar.

Anonymous said...

And Eaton and Capano accomplished what by that ?

Anonymous said...

Eaton was never ready to take them on. He fought as long as nobody fought back.

Anonymous said...

ghorra took the chair just to have another feather in his cap.

Anonymous said...

11:24 means another feather in the rug.

Anonymous said...

This blog is getting old.

Everyone makes it out like Kassar has power.

He really has none.

He is the Chair of a party of ten people, at most.

But he is under Mike Long and Marty Golden and he throws their names around, threatens people and pretends to have some power.

Anonymous said...

Republicans need to weather a storm of statewide and regional Democrat dominance.
Too many people in and around the Brooklyn GOP look back at some 'good old days' and want or hope for them to comeback somehow.
It ain't going to happen, because Marty Golden ain't no Bill Conklin and Ted Ghorra ain't no Ed Seergy; and there aren't 2, 3, or 4 assembly districts that are strongly Republican or at least very contestable.
Ron D'Angelo used to say, 'It's all demographics'; and he had it about a third right. It's demographics, generational change and a pull in the wrong direction by the Conservative Party.

Anonymous said...

You missed a key point. Politics in America has gone from centrist to extremist over the last fifty years.

Barry Goldwater became the deep down guru of both the left and the right in America when he espoused the dictum: "... extremism in the defense of ... is no vice..."

Anonymous said...

6:12 makes an interesting point. Kassar does power but it does emanate from Marty Golden and Mike Long. Jerry name drops them all the time to try to settle petty political scores often having nothing to do with either of them. I don’t think MARTY Golden has a clue how many enemies he’s made simply because Jerry Kassar used his name to imply that he would use him for payback.

Anonymous said...

so people go to Kassar and noone goes to Eaton

Anonymous said...

Eaton doesn’t need any of this whereas Kassar is defined by it. If he didn’t work for Marty no one would even contact him let alone call him back.

Anonymous said...

Is Goldwater in the 46th?

Anonymous said...

I am sure Kassar does not mind being defined as someone all go to for help and issues , while other can't do anything but vent and blog

Anonymous said...

2:46 is enjoying a wonderful stay on la la land. No one goes to Jerry for help unless they are in a position to return the “favor” ten times over. And once Donovan cleans house in the Brooklyn Office it will get even harder for him to deliver without requesting boatloads in return.

Anonymous said...

Kassar is an old, sick, lonely, arguably mentally unstable human being. In fact, many have heard Golden say to people when they complain about Kassar "He must be off his meds".

It is actually sad. Look at him. He is extremely overweight and always looks miserable.

Why anybody would want to be him amazes me......

Anonymous said...

That whole “off his meds” things is getting old. Jerry uses Marty’s name to threaten people in situations where he has no business involving his boss. Going to come back to bite both of them one of these days.

Anonymous said...

But Kassar is still around while Eaton is gone..

Anonymous said...

5:34 But you forget one thing.

Eaton left on his own terms because he wanted out.

If he didnt, he would still be Chair. Remember the Cochrane Challenge? The NYS Chair stood behind Eaton then and would have stood behind him again if Eaton wanted to stay as Chair.

In Fact Chairman Cox knew Eaton wasnt running months before the Convention and pleaded with him to stay on as Chair and NYS Vice Chair.

Kassar is still a sick and pathetic human being who nobody likes and they just tolerate him because he works for Marty. Plain and simple.
