“Hipster Hillary” Clinton’s move to Brooklyn is seen as a big joke — By Republicans
Local Republicans can’t see Hillary as “Hipster Cool” even if she switches to Artisanal-friendly pant suits — National Republicans think the move to Brooklyn shows that Hillary is even further out of touch with Americans than previously thought
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Hillary Clinton’s campaign signed a lease for two floors of office space in Brooklyn, New York (See “ 'Hipster' for president: Hillary Clinton campaign-in-waiting signs lease for office space in Brooklyn, New York” by David Martosko, 4/3/15, Daily Mail/ dilaymail.co.uk [http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3024644/Hipster-president-Hillary-Clinton-campaign-waiting-signs-lease-office-space-Brooklyn.html]).
The Daily Mail article made these observations:
• 1 Pierrepont Plaza also houses Morgan Stanley and the federal prosecutor's office
• Hillary's campaign will occupy two full floors in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood
• Upscale hipster neighborhood includes Urban Outfitters, Banana Republic, Shake Shack and a private squash club
• Campaign has just 15 days to declare itself in the White House hunt after taking a formal step like committing to office space
HUMA ABEDIN SEEN SURVEYING THE BROOKLYN HEIGHTS SITEAlso the Daily Mail note that the blog Politico reported on the lease-signing, saying that Clinton chief of staff Huma Abedin has been spotted walking around the neighborhood and touring the building. That is especially interesting because Huma Abedin is up to her neck in Hillary Clinton’s E-mail scandal — for two reasons. First, the exchange of E-mails between Clinton and Abedin showed that Hillary mixed up her official and private messages; and second, Clinton advisor Abedin, while employed by the State Department used her own private E-mail account, which was also on the Clinton “private” or “personal” server.
BROOKLYN GOPers WILL LOOK ASKANCE AT ANY HILLARY ATTEMPT TO ADOPT NEW LOOK AS A HIPSTER — BUT THE NATIONAL GOP IS LAUGHING AT THE WHOLE THING AS A GAFFE FOR IGNORING THE REALITIES OF “FLY-OVER COUNTRY”Local Brooklyn Republicans scoff at the notion of a local Brooklyn National Campaign Headquarters for Clinton. That Hillary is in any way a hipster is just ludicrous; and that Brooklyn Heights relates in any way to other part of Brooklyn ignores what the rest of Brooklyn is all about.
Meanwhile, a Republican Party official in Iowa who spoke to the Daily Mail Online said on Friday that Clinton's choice of digs “won't matter much in flyover country where most of the votes are.... We're more likely to be impressed if you're close to a Wal-Mart,” the Iowan joked. “The tallest building in [my town] is three stories.”
A GOP Senate staffer laughed out loud at what he said would be “Hillary's hipster hell.” “I guess we can expect all the Clinton campaign t-shirts to have ironic slogans, right?” he said. “I can't wait to drink Pabst Blue Ribbon at the launch party.”
A LITTLE DIFFERENT EMPHASIS IN CNN COVERAGECNN looked a little more closely at 1 Pierrepont Plaza and the surrounding neighborhood: “The building -- which bills itself as "Modern Offices. Brooklyn Cool" -- also houses offices for Morgan Stanley and the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. *** Clinton supporters see a number of benefits in Brooklyn, including ease of attracting talent to the New York area and the fact that it's known for ethnic and socio-economic diversity. *** On the downside, some Clinton supporters have expressed concern with being closely associated with New York City, and in particular Wall Street, which is only [just across the river and] a few subway stops away....” (See “Team Clinton signs lease for Brooklyn office” by Jeff Zeleny & Dan Merica, 4/3/15, CNN [http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/03/politics/hillary-clinton-brooklyn-headquarters-2016-elections/]). CNN additionally noted that “... because Clinton is not a declared candidate, Clinton aides would not detail what entity signed the office lease.”
BROOKLYN EAGLE QUOTES CARLO SCISURRA OF BROOKLYN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE"Brooklyn could not be more prepared and excited to host Hillary Clinton as she begins her journey as the consensus front-runner for the Democratic nomination for President," said Carlo A. Scissura, President & CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. "As one of the most diverse and tolerant places on the planet -- and with cool points no other city can match -- the road to the White House is clearly paved through our borough. Brooklyn is the capital of tomorrow, and there's no better place for tomorrow's aspiring President to run a campaign...."
