Many Orthodox Jewish voters are refusing to sign GOP petitions with DA Hynes' name on it -- so several Brooklyn GOP organizations will be circulating petitions without a DA candidate on them
Petitioning is always where the rubber meets the road with everybody's political dreams, and in some cases, nightmares. Some prefer the metaphor of leather pounding the hard pavements .... (isn't that too British?)
I've gotten a variety of reports from a variety of sources and here's the gouge on what's happening.
"Stormy Weather" has complicated the early going petitioning for almost everybody, but will effect the GOP organizations most because of their smaller teams of gatherers and smaller voter base. With so many late-gathered signatures expect that there will be plenty of "SAP" specs by those doing serious petition challenges at the BOE and then in court.
Even recently generated GOP walking lists are turning up lots of empties at the BOE listed addresses, especially in wide swaths of Bay Ridge. These are being carefully noted for an important tactical use in the near future.
One Republican organization claims that they aren't having much difficulty petitioning or qualifying county committee. And that they think that they will have enough signatures to qualify their mayoral candidate in Brooklyn alone.
At least one county-wide campaign has banked enough signatures that it is already moving into the next phase of campaigning --- lining up a few notables for a media campaign [more in a future post].
Now that he has qualified for "matching funds," one GOP City Council candidate plans to continue petitioning in order to open several "third party lines" for opportunity to ballot primaries.
With filing coming soon, we'll see how competitive the "Golden Faction" in the GOP is going to be county-wide.

Its a sad day for the rEpublican party that it has to throw its support to a crook like Hynes.
The GOP and Conservative Party endorsement of long-time Brooklyn DA Hynes follows what they have done in the recent past.
Hynes is not a perfect DA nor a perfect Republican or Conservative candidate for DA. However, given the positions taken by those running against him -- limiting certain police enforcement techniques, etc. and in one case not prosecuting whole classes of drug crimes -- Hynes is the only reasonable choice for Republicans and Conservatives, other than running someone who is more conservative. Such a candidate would have no chance of winning in Brooklyn whatsoever.
That is not an endorsement by me, nor by anybody associated with "The Brooklyn Independent GOP Fountainhead". It is merely an observation that the positions taken by the Kings County GOP and Conservative Party are not unreasonable under the circumstances.
Hynes gets the Republican and Conservative party endorsements because he puts the hacks on his payroll.
Name names, if you can....
Otherwise, it's just a naked charge.
I've received Emails and phone calls by people directly and/or indirectly involved in petition-gathering in the 44th Counc. Dist,
Right now it's anybody's guess whether Hayon will qualify as the GOP candidate in the 44th against Greenfield. If Hayon doesn't qualify for the GOP line, that will be an embarrassment for both Hayon and Eaton, because....
,,,just "Because!"
Petitioning shows a candidates support from the community he seeks to represent and his overall competency in running a campaign or organization of any type.
When a candidate fails to make the ballot is shows he is incompetent and has no support.
I'm afraid this item has generated more heat than light.
So far a lid has been kept on most of the accusations, recriminations and insults. But, judging from history, how long can that last ?
Was the statement above incorrect? I'm asking sincerely.
I've seen this movie a few times and know how it ends.
People that have nothing to do with a candidate's failure usually get blamed.
Which statement ?
GM at 8:19 pm -- Correct. However "item" should be changed to "comment" to avoid confusion.
Anonymous at 10:57 AM -- A little correct, but not always.
GM at 10:41 AM -- Correct, based on my point of view.
I doubt that you are referring to any other comments or to the original post.
As to the part of the comment by Anonymous at 10:23 PM that goes like this: "...People that have nothing to do with a candidate's failure usually get blamed." -- I think that is sometimes correct, but not always.
Besides, as far as I know, no candidate has yet failed -- thus, hope can yet spring eternal for all involved. So, good luck to all, and Devil take the hindmost !
Moish from Monsey soon we will be back from vacation and as a Jewish voter who is from Boro Park what is going on with Golden and Eaton I thought they were friends?
