What’s going on with Brooklyn GOP and Conservative Party candidates and gun rights ? Republican-Conservative Assembly Candidate Thomas McCarthy opposes State Senator Golden on Guns

Why does Bay Ridge Tom McCarthy get a “D” –  indicating he’s a gun rights opponent, as opposed to  his running-mate Martin Golden, who gets a “B+”, and fellow assembly candidate, Russell Gallo, who gets a  “B” ?     —   Kassar’s great new guy for the State Senate, Simcha Felder gets an “F”.  —   But the most common answer for Republican and Conservative candidates in Brooklyn is  “?” for not surveyed.

One of the standards and hallmarks for conservative Republicans and Conservative Party candidates has been a strong support for a broad interpretation of constitutional gun rights. Based on the 2012 General Election Candidate Ratings and Endorsements of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Owners Association, most of the Brooklyn GOP and Conservative Party candidates were either not reached by those running the survey or simply blew-off the process.

One candidate needs particular mention. Thomas McCarthy is the Brooklyn GOP’s anointed candidate in the 46th AD, who was rejected by almost a third of GOP voters in the September Primary.  As the Republican-Conservative candidate, he was surveyed by the New York State Rifle and Pistol Owners Association; and based on that survey, it appears that McCarthy has oddly adopted a very liberal anti-gun position that is not merely “unsatisfactory”  —   he has been found to be  someone who “Opposes [the pro-gun rights agenda]...” and  “...sponsors anti-gun legislation and initiatives”.

By contrast State Senator Martin Golden and  45th AD Republican-Conservative Candidate Russell Gallo have been surveyed and are strong supporters of constitutional gun rights.
