The "best man" --- OR --- How the "Old" Brooklyn GOP lost its chance to take back the Bay Ridge-Dyker Heights-Bath Beach City Council seat

With an analysis of which votes came from where  ---  one thing is clear  ---  if John Quaglione had been willing to run again against Justin Brannan,  the Brooklyn GOP would be sitting pretty confident right now that it had elected two new members to the New York City Council  ---  and there would be no waiting around to see if Brannan could pull a rabbit-out-of the-hat with the absentee ballots.....

If the GOP and Coservatives had gone with Quaglione, the mini-Red-Wave would have easily been enough to push him over the top  ---  and it would have been Justin Brannan on the outside looking in  ---  instead of the other way around, which is the way it's now likely to stay

We had a long conversation early last week with a key Brooklyn GOP insider, and they were clear about a lot of things concerning the 43rd DIstrict City Council race, John Quaglione's hand in it or not in it, and Brian Fox's starting out and remaining an outsider to the long-time Brooklyn GOPers.

First, if John Quaglione had wanted to run again, he would have been the preferred GOP candidate to run for City Council against Justin Brannan.

Second, in the beginning, nobody knew Brian Fox among the established GOP activists and Kings County GOP executive  members.  What little support he had was from Liam's faction and a few others behaind Ghorra, who only wanted to block Bob Capano and Craig Eaton from getting back in like they had with Vito Bruno's candidacy in 2020.

Third, after they got to know Fox, they didn't like him for a variety of reasons  ---  not the least of which was that Fox never seemed to learn anybody's name, regardless of what they were or could be doing for the Fox campaign in their home areas.

Bottom line, Quaglione would have come into the 2021 campaign for CIty Council with a lot more going for him than Fox.  However, there were enough people who convinced John Q. that he was more important as GOP District Leader for the 46th AD, and other outside personal reasons for his not running for the Council again that   ---  Quaglione was adament in his decision not to run for the city council in 2021 and also run for district leader.

Almost as important, there are still enough "Old Brooklyn GOP" types that believe a Fox win at this time would not be in their personal interest.  At least a few of those are pretty high and deep into the Brooklyn office of the Board of Elections  ---  and they have no faith that a Fox win would be good for their political and/or  professional careers at "the Board" or any place else.

So, whether Fox wins or loses at the Board this week, most of the GOP-types at the Board know deep in their hearts that it don't make sense for them to want it to be Fox.  Their last chance to have a real rooting interest in the outcome ended when John Quaglione took a pass on running for New York City Council in 2021.

Eaton and Capano will always "claim" to be relevant by hanging on to Catsimatidis..

Quaglione would have lost even worse. Foxy was fearless and ran a nasty hard-nose grid iron campaign against Boss Brannan. Quaglione is too mealey-mouthed for that. He doesn't want to upset his "friends" on the board at St Anslem who talk about him behind his back anyway

RESPONSE: THE "FALSE NARRATIVE" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 4:16 PM"

WHO ARE YOU ??? AND DID YOU MEAN TO SAY THIS: "QUAGLIONE WOULD HAVE LOST EVEN WORSE...." ?????

SO, YOU DO KNOW THAT FOX LOST, BUT YOU CAN'T ADMIT THAT QUAGLIONE WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY HAVE WON >>> THERE ARE ONLY THREE PEOPLE ON EARTH WHO IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN TO SAY THAT: BRANNAN, MC CABE, OR CAPANO.....

This part is the real false narrative segment --- ".... Foxy was fearless and ran a nasty hard-nose grid iron campaign against Boss Brannan. Quaglione is too mealey-mouthed for that. He doesn't want to upset his "friends"..."

Bogey playing Sam Spade said it best a long time ago in "The Maltese Falcon,": "The cheaper the crook, the gaudier the patter...."

But that real false narrative bit, leads us to think the commenter is Mr. McCabe.....

Q is sick to his stomach that fox may win..

lets go brannen

Only a bare knuckle brawler like Big Bad Brian Fox could take out Boss Brannigan. Quaglione is a 6 foot tall altar boy

Did Q ever tell you the story about how his mom loaned him $ 300,000 to buy a house for his family but instead Q blew most of it on a district leader campaign against an 90 year old man who lives on Fort Hamilton Parkway ?

Anonymous said...

Why would Q ever tell such a story? It isn't true.

1014, we'll see soon enogh whether or not Brannan got taken down. But when it comes to politics Big Bad Brian Fox isn't any kind of bare knuckles brawler, he's a four-flushin' phony grifter.

The surest sign yet that Brannan is likely to go ahead in the count today is that Park Slope-Windsor Terrace-Kennsington and Parkville Assembly Member Robert Carroll wished Brannan well on Twitter at about 8:00 AM this morning. If you know the inner workings of the Dem Party in Brooklyn, and/or the personal history of Brannan and the Carrolls, then you know what a big deal that is.

It's very interesting that so many of what looks like pro-Fox comments-makers to your blog seem more upset that this blog said John Quaglione would have certainly won, than when you said that it looks like Fox almost certainly lost.

Vito Fossella will make it official this week that hes running against Nicole.

If Fox looses by a thread then we can surmise Quaglione would have lost in a landslide. These are the facts of the matter.

It's very interesting that Bobby Beer Can still thinks hes relevant by knocking people like Q who trounced Bob two or four times. Who can really keep track of Bobs losses.

RESPONSE: THE "FOLKS, JUST LET IT GO....." EDITION

TO A FEW OF THE RECENT COMMENTS-MAKERS

2017 CAME AND WENT --- UNLESS YOU ARE JOHN Q, THE WINNING OF THAT GOP COUNCIL PRIMARY IN DISTRICT 43 IS NOT THE BIGGEST THING THAT HAPPENED THAT YEAR..... CAPANO'S RUN ON THE THIRD PARTY LINE DIDN'T CAUSE JOHN Q'S LOSS IN NOVEMBER, IN SPITE OF WHAT BOTH Q. AND CAPANO WANT EVERYBODY TO THINK..... AND LIAM'S TIME-OUT FOR REHAB [WELL, YOU KNOW].....

We can't even parody or caricature this stuff anymore, because it's too silly already.....

Maybe, if you tried it in drag to show tunes, we might like it better..... I'm sort of getting a vibe of Liam voice-syncing Alice Faye's movie rendition (she sang it in two different movies) of Harry Warren's, Mack Gordon's and Dorothy Fern Norris' --- "You'll Never Know."

Quaglione, Capano, Vito Bruno, Brian Fox..... it's over. Staten Island is all we have left

SPEAKING OF THE "BEST MAN"; PRIMARIES; AND THIRD PARTIES: THE "ROY COHN" EDITION

IN 1974, FAMOUS MC CARTHY-ERA COUNSEL ROY COHN HAD ENOUGH SUPPORT AT THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY CONVENTION THAT HE COULD HAVE FORCED AN AUTOMATIC PRIMARY AGAINST THE NYSCP'S NOMINEE BARBARA A. KEATING

In spite of getting 38% of the delegates' votes, Mr. Cohn stepped aside and supported the Con-Cons' nominee..... In November, Keating ran a strong third to Jake Javits and Ramsey Clark --- keeping Javits from getting a 50%+ majority mandate against his combined right and left opposition.

It's very interesting that Quaglione who at best just edits press releases for the Brooklyn Diocese as evidenced by the fact that whenever there is a public comment on a big issue it comes from Vincent Lavien not Q.

Meanwhile I hear Capano is living the dream, paid handsomely working for an iconic NY billionaire and now teaching at an Ivy League College

Keating running a strong third was not the goal. It was to repeat 1970 and run a strong first like Jim Buckley. As for javits I dont think Keating drew many votes from the senator representing the state of tel aviv.

We have now reached the portion of the evening where Q posts misty-eyed photos of his election night loss in 2018

Brian Z. Fox of Cartwright Drive in West Windsor, New Jersey was charged June 27 with DWI (driving while intoxicated). Police Officer Joseph Bolognese said he stopped Fox on Route 1 near College Road for driving erratically and failing to maintain a lane and found Fox was intoxicated and high on pills. Fox was also charged with reckless driving, making an unsafe lane change, driving through a safety zone, knocking over highway safety cones, and failing to maintain a lane.

We here at this independent GOP blog can see no legitimate reason for your trying to pull whatever it is you are trying to pull at this time.
