It's time to take a closer look at Vito Bruno's tenure at the West Side Club 1018

Here's a closer look at the Ratso Vito Bruno of the past [and  present ???].....

Vito Bruno got his start in New York City's nightlife business with the 2001 Odyssey in Brooklyn, in an industrial niche between corners of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Sunset Park and Boro Park.  Here's Ratso Vito Bruno in 1991 striking a seductive Chelsie-Westside pose on a retro-themed couch just off the main dance floor at a night club run by Vito called "Glamorama,"  which was located at 229 West 28th Street in Manhattan. Over the years, Ratso Bruno jumped between being a club promoter, manager, and principal operator of many, many down and dirty clubs, including the infamous after hours joint "AM/PM," where John Belushi circled the drain before Vito Bruno flushed him to his death as far, far away from "his good friend" Vito as possible.  Later on,  Vito Bruno founded the event and production entertainment company, interestingly also called "AM/PM"  that sponsored socially irresponsible outlaw raves that would popup in various neighborhoods around the City of NY.  Now, Ratso Vito Bruno has reinvented himself, as he had predicted many years ago to a Hollywood muckraker slumming with Vito in NYC.....

>>>  as a family values, social conservative pitching "Law and Order"  [the concept not the popular TV series] <<<.

...   But, let's go back a few years before the Vito Bruno depicted above.  According to insider reports, Vito Bruno ran the club venue named "1018," (formerly anther Vito Bruno associated club, "The Roxy") located at 10th Avenue and 18th Street pretty far west in Chelsea,  starting in October 1986 with a business associate name Eugene DiNino (and possibly DiNino's sister, Rosalie Schupp).   By June of 1987, Vito Bruno and Gene DiNino were bragging to a very significant city-wide magazine covering NYC nightlife that they were "moving" 7000 folks through their "1018" on weekends  ---  of which, over 6000 were regular paying customers and not freebie VIPs.

Since Vito is being described to one and all during his 2020 campaign as a "businessman,"  Vito's business dealings and associations  back in the heyday of sex, drugs & rock'n'roll shouldn't be ignored, while we try to unpack the real life's work of the man called Ratso Vito,  now running for the state senate on the Republican and Conservative lines as a "family values, social conservative pitching 'Law and Order'..."

Since Bob signed on with Vito its been a domino effect of endorsements. Vitos team have just secured a campaign headquarters on 85th street.

The Capano Domino effect = Bob now has enough money to buy a pie of crappy corporate pizza, therefore he's winning.

Not to be confused with Nicole's law of relativity, which is that the only noteworthy news story about her must include a mention of a criminal's first-degree relative.

RESPONSE: THE "TRY TO STAY FOCUSED" EDITION

TO ALMOST ALL OF THE COMMENTERS ABOVE

THIS STUFF ABOUT VITO BRUNO AND GENE DI NINO IS IMPORTANT IN A LOT OF WAYS..... DON'T IGNORE ANY OF IT

Stick with stories about Vito Bruno's boss or partner or whatever he was, Eugene DiNino. The man didn't wind up in jail, like so many other of Vito Bruno's associates from other clubs, but DiNino, who owned several clubs over the years, wound up homeless for a while. One thing that he said about clubs probably was an observation about how Vito Bruno promoted business at the place where '1018' was located, 525 West 18th Street. '1018' was closed down in 1989 by the New York City Office of Midtown Enforcement as a nuisance, based on allegations of underaged drinking, drug sales, and violence.

DeNino has said that crack cocaine and violence was what destroyed the frontline clubs in New York City. That's probably why in 1989 DiNino changed the name of 525 W. 18th Street from '1018' back to 'The Roxy' and turned the weekend operations of the club over to John Blair Promotions, even though a few years earlier, about 7000 people were packing the club every weekend with Vito Bruno handling the promotions at the club.

RESPONSE: THE "IF VITO BRUNO IS SUCH A GOOD CITIZEN, THEN WHY....." EDITION

TO: ALL THE FLACKERS AND DISTRACTORS FOR VITO BRUNO PUTTING UP ALL THE CLAPTRAP ABOVE

RIDDLE ME THIS, BATMAN >>> IF VITO BRUNO IS SUCH A GOOD CITIZEN, THEN WHY DID VARIOUS AUTHORIES SHUT DOWN SO MANY OF HIS CLUBS LIKE "1018," "THE ROXY," "PIZZA-A-GO-GO," "INFERNO" AND "AM/PM" --- AND WHY WERE POLICE RAIDS ROUTINE AT VITO'S OUTDOOR "OUTLAW" RAVE PARTIES?????

.... and why did Ratso Vito Bruno have to "take to the streets" for his "outlaw parties" --- at which the arrival of a police raid to shut them down was part of the event, because "... [the] cops who inevitably bust[ed] these parties [were] the most glamorous celebrities of all. Everyone anticipate[d] their arrival...." ????? The answer was simple --- To do the same kinds of promotions at fixed indoor venues, the mix of street gangs and performing artists necessary for the evolved Vito Bruno to generate the glam and the vibe that he wanted into '90s, would cause Ratso to have to face prohibitive Lloyds-type insurance payments, because of all the violence that necessarily went along with all of it.

LET'S START WITH >>> THE POLICE <<< SINCE YOU MENTIONED "THE POLICE" IN YOUR COMMENT

RATSO VITO BRUNO IS >>> AN ADMITTED CORRUPTER OF THE POLICE <<<

BUT IS >>> RATSO <<< SOMETHING ELSE, AS WELL ?????

In 1983, Vito Bruno, one of the owners of the AM/PM, a club that operated after hours said in an interview with the New York Times that he had given cash Christmas presents to police officers. When asked if the gifts he gave were more than $100, Vito Bruno replied, "Let's just say a lot more."

In spite of the very large number of police officers involved in the investigation and the generally accepted fact that all after hours clubs had been paying off cops, and Vito Bruno's admissions that he paid cash gifts to cops >>> Mr. Bruno's interview with the New York Times specifically confirmed that neither Mr. Bruno nor his AM/PM Club were the subject of any FBI investigation. >>> Now, how could Vito Bruno and the NY Times have been so certain of that ?????

QUERY: HOW DID VITO BRUNO MANAGE TO GET A SECRET ALLIANCE WITH THE "QUEEN OF THE CLICK"-MARLENE ???

IT'S TOUGH FOR ME TO TELL, BECAUSE THE "QUEEN OF THE CLICK"-MARLENE IS ALL OVER THE LOT ABOUT WHO MIGHT BE DOING WHAT AND WHY

For some reason, Marlene seems to be pitching the pro-Vito Bruno talking points that he ran clean clubs in the 80s & 90s and that all the drugs and violence were not his fault.

Marlene coyly says "I don’t have enough information about Vito Bruno yet, but I’ll share it when I do...." However, that was AFTER SHE HAD ALREADY CONCLUDED THAT --- ".... In the 80’s, Vito was a young man running a business. From 1990-2020, the Democrats couldn’t find anything bad to use about Vito Bruno! That’s a good thing!"

Nothing could be further from the truth..... Even a little bit of research would show Ms. Marlene, "Queen of the Click" that >>> that Vito Bruno was covered with blood and tingly white powder from the way he was conducting himself and running his businesses from the 80s on onto the 90s; and that he has been bragging about all of it ever since.

The most revealing thing that Marlene had to say was this: ".... I want the thank the NYS Democratic Committee for motivating me to reach out to Vito Bruno...." Somehow the legendary Vito Bruno was able to easily impress Marlene and get her to sign on the dotted line for his very sanitized small piece of that legend.

If Marlene wants to do a deep dive into what Vito Bruno was really like in the bad old mid-1980s, I have a lengthy reading assignment for her. Even though it harkens back to the 80s, there is a very revealing article that shows how Vito Bruno was very closely involved in the minutia of the violence and the drugs and court appearances related to how he ran things at "The Inferno" along with his then-partner Roman Ricardo..... The article was by Scott Mehno and Jesus Sterling, and it appeared in the "East Village Eye" for November 1985 [its online cite is at: https://www.east-village-eye.com/eyepdfs/nov85.pdf].

I didn't realize this blog had become an Andrew Gounardes fan page. Let's say the worst of all these allegations against Vito Bruno are true. And I'm not saying they are. The question is who is going to do a better job of serving the interests of the district today.

Gounardes is a lightweight. All his ideas come from Justin Brannan or Chris McReight. It is almost embarrassing. He is a blind partisan, a puppet of Cuomo, and clueless about crime in NYC today. Nobody reading this may get hit by a bullet in one of Vito Bruno's clubs. All of us may come home next week to find a violent criminal released through bail reform robbing our home.

The Nursing Home Slaughter scandal deserves an independent investigation. Andrew Gounardes has not supported this look into the NY Govt policies that led to this tragedy. Likewise, he talks about getting insurance companies to pay for the Covid lockdown when he has failed to research and realize the NY Govt negotiated with the insurance companies to take viruses out of the boiler plate in business stoppage contracts in New York.

Andrew has tried to sanitize his own background. Yet his whitewashing is far more recent and is directly tied to government work. While he was being mentored by Senator Menedez of New Jersey as a legislative aide, huge payoffs occurred, underage women were procured, and special visas were obtained for the girlfriends of a major donor. Other aides in the office testified under oath about these activities.

If it wasn't for a recent Supreme Court ruling in the McDonnell case, Menedez would have been found guilty. Yet like DeBlasio he has skated by because of a new definition of bribery where you have to prove a specific tie between compensation to the politician and a political act. Andrew has never come clean here. And the corruption in this saga is far more pertinent than anything that may have happened at a Club 40 years ago.

Queen of The Click has started questioning Andrew because of his shift on a land deal that smacks of pay to play, his continued refusal to answer tough questions about issues relating to his current line of work, his insulting comment that the rise of rape in the district was a mere statistic, and his absolute failure to follow through on campaign pledges regarding property tax parity.

Andrew continues to take guidance from and associate with some of the most vile people in the community. His close relationship with one donor and transition team member who called ALL of Dyker Heights racist suggest significant contempt for his constituents.

John Belushi btw died at the Chateau Marmont in LA. I go there. There are rumors his ghost is present often. Maybe all those who are interested in chasing ghosts instead of looking at the variety of pressing issues in front of us should fly to LA and ask Belushi who he will be voting for.

IN SPITE OF THE RUSE THAT YOU "GO" TO THE CHATEAU MARMONT (NOTE: YOU DIDN'T SAY "STAY"), I DOUBT THAT YOU ARE RATSO VITO BRUNO --- MORE LIKELY YOU'RE A DISGRUNTLED ITINERANT TRADESMAN STABBING ANDTRE GOUNARDES ON THE BACK --- IT DON'T MATTER TO ME, BECAUSE, CONTRARY TO ALL THE IDLE CONJECTURE, I AM NOT SUPPORTING ANDY BOY, I'M ONLY OPPOSING VITO BABY

But in spite of all the bad things that you might say about Andy, you can't say that Andy's closest protege, who took over the "Outlaw Party" promotion business from Vito Bruno, Michael Alig, was sent to prison for murder.... As between Andy G. and Vito B. --- Michael Alig only tips his hat to Vito Bruno when being interviewed in the joint. BTW, the 2010 prison interview with Michael Alig done by Christopher Bollen, about the documentary bio-pic "Party Monster" describes two very important things: the first is how the "Outlaw Parties" were done as business promos for certain clubs; the second is that Michael Alig was a nice kid from Chicago, who was a student at Fordham University, before he started doing "Outlaw Parties" with Vito Bruno.....

You are correct. I haven't ever stayed at the Chateau. This because I also own a home very close by on Sierra Alta Way. My dear friend Christine Peters - a conservative film producer - also rents a home on Marmont Lane that is a couple block walk away from the hotel. And I never pretended to be Vito.

I'm unfamiliar with Michael Alig but will look him up. And again I point out that Andrew's new mentor - Cuomo - played a critical role in murdering thousands of people this year. But I get it. Cuomo did it with the power of a pen, directives, and more sophisticated forms of barbarism.

And LOL to the poster who is looking at the CBS poll regarding Trump in Texas. If you trust the top-line numbers from media polls, someone from this board really should sell you the Brooklyn Bridge. Hillary spent 48 times as much money in Texas as Wisconsin in 2016. That dog isn't going to hunt.

You'd be better off listening to Michael Moore and some of the Left who is actually on the ground in places where the election is going to get decided. A pro tip. Biden is not using a physical GOTV effort. This means no direct in person contact with his voters. Just a small misfiring of Mitt Romney's digital/physical GOTV technology cost him dearly in 2012. His polls had him winning the election.

The Supreme Court fight is taking Covid off the table as an election issue focus. Most likely Barbara Lagoa is going to be the nominee and she was confirmed just last year by 80-15. Of course most of the Democratic lemmings will claim timing or her horrible conflict of interest in the Florida Felon Voting Law case as a reason to switch their votes. But the site of Chuckie Schumer, Dicky Durbin, Despacito Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris beating up on this brilliant young Latina justice is going to set the Democratic Party back for a generation.

RESPONSE: THE "WORLD OF VITO BRUNO AND THE 'PARTY MONSTER' " EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 7:05 AM" & "... AT 7:23 AM"

YOU MUST BE ABLE TO READ VERY FAST --- HOWEVER, YOU NEED TO READ MORE CAREFULLY.....

RATSO VITO BRUNO IS CLEARLY MENTIONED IN THE ARTICLE THAT YOU MENTIONED ABOUT THE CONVICTED MURDERER MICHEAL ALIG.....

MORE IMPORTANT, THE 2010 ARTICLE BY CHRISOPHER BOLLEN IN "INTERVIEW MAGAZINE" THAT YOU CITED VIVIDLY DESCRIBES THE MILLIEU OF VITO BRUNO'S MANY AND VARIED "BUSINESS" DEALINGS IN THE 1980S & 1990S --- THAT WAS VITO BRUNO'S WORLD FOR TWENTY YEARS, CERTAINLY, AND WHAT'S LEFT OF ALL THAT IS VERY LIKELY A PART OF HIS "BUSINESS" WORLD TO THIS VERY DAY.....

Here's the direct reference to Vito Bruno by the convicted murderer Michael Alig:
".... BOLLEN [QUESTIONING MICHAEL ALIG]: That’s when you started doing the Outlaw Parties as promotion?
ALIG: That was a gimmick to get people to come to the clubs. Vito Bruno had done it before us, and I started doing mine with him so it wouldn’t seem like I was stealing someone else’s idea. People weren’t coming for the free drinks anymore, so Outlaw Parties were a great draw, which we always held suspiciously close to the club. When the bust happened, there would be 2,000 great people two blocks away, and we would have a surprise open bar for them, and the club would get a rush of people. It was a marketing tool...."

BTW, I'm still not buyin' your West Hollywood vibe; although it is a very well crafted little piece of narration.

Anonymous said...

Nobody needs to buy anything I'm saying. I'm not selling. Moreover, West Hollywood is different North of Sunset. And the Chateau is a different vibe than the clubs like Rage on Santa Monica Blvd.

Yes I read the reference. So Vito did Outlaw parties in his youth. Alig says he went to Vito - Alig was already doing other kinds of clubs - to partner with him on these type of clubs to ensure he didn't look like he was stealing the idea. Alig had all kinds of ventures in this world. 95% were not with Vito. The Murder had nothing to do with Vito. You make it seem so ominous.

I also promoted clubs. Really just as an excuse to invite hot girls and older business types I wanted to build connections with. So I was part of promoting a club called Peanuts on its straight night. Well the partner who brought me into it - Brett Cantor - the son of a William Morris Agency division head - was murdered several years later. Oh and the time I lived 2 blocks away from OJ Simpson and had gone to high school with his kids. See how this works?

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 5:47 PM"

YOU WEAVE A VERY INTERESTING LEGEND ABOUT YOUR "LIFE" IN LOTUS LAND --- BUT, RIDDLE ME THIS, BATMAN --- WHY WOULD A KID FROM SIERRA ALTA WAY CARE SO MUCH ABOUT RATSO VITO BRUNO; AND AT THE SAME TIME, KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT ANDREW GOUNARDES AND THAT ALL HIS IDEAS COME FROM JUSTIN BRANNAN AND CHRIS MC CREIGHT?????

THAT IS A VERY STRANGE COMBINATION OF INTERESTS & DATA IMPUTS FOR ONE PERSON FROM A VERY RITZY NEIGHBORHOOD ON THE LEFT COAST TO HAPPEN UPON

It isn't just an unusual interest in Vito Bruno, it's a view of Bruno's personal history that is 100% in line with Vito Bruno's well-scrubbed version of his career in the NYC late night club scene. The drugs, violence and other illegalities of that scene are well-described in many books and articles that mention Vito Bruno's being a part of all of it.

BTW, several different journalists and authors, not just jailhouse interviewer Christopher Bollen, have described the association between the "Party Monster," convicted murderer Michael Alig, with Vito Bruno >>> as business associates in the "Outlaw Party" business. Both Alig and Bruno had business dealings with the whole panoply of artists and technicians needed to produce "Outlaw Parties," with drug dealers and with each other.

Anonymous said...

As recently as 2011 Vito Bruno was produced a "free-style" show where performing artists sang songs that extolled drugs and shootings.

Anonymous said...

I didn't say I was from Sierra Alta Way. This was not the area it is now when I was born. No parent would raise a child there. It is also one street outside of Beverly Hills so no access to the few good public schools in LA. I grew up on Amalfi Drive in Pacific Palisades in terms of a primary residence.

My interest is relatively straight forward. I work with a group of Conservatives Strategists/Media People/Donors/Lobbyists. It is more of a hobby than my business. Our goal is total war on the Left. This means ceding zero territory like liberal cities. And we aim to create a far larger tent of conservative constituencies. Thus, in terms of NYC we are looking at swing districts like the one Gounardes slithered into.

One of my main business partners has business interests in and around Brooklyn. Hence the focus here. I prefer to describe it as an eclectic combination of interests.

Gounardes also happens to embody a robust set of characteristics that I despise in politics and left-leaning politicians. His lack of real world experience, cowardice, wokeism, sense of moral superiority make him uniquely unqualified during a critical period in our history.

It is an interesting contrast isn't it. One one side you have the precious Dentist's son who goes to law school and gets mixed up in the worlds of Menedez and Seddio. Pristine on the outside but interesting associates. I don't know Bruno's full story. The Club world is far from law school in DC. More like the rackets Joe Kennedy delved in.

Is Andrew a better human being? Is he more ethical? Is his soul cleaner? Do we believe in redemption? Or was Fitzgerald right and there are no second acts in American life?

My concern is who will stand up against Cuomo? Who isn't beholden to the BLM/Antifa block? Who knows most about what small business needs to re-emerge in NYC?

WELL, GOLLLLEEEEE !!! YOUR LEGEND GROWS FASTER'N'TOPSY.....

HOWEVER, I'M AFRAID THAT YOU AND WHATEVER ASSOCIATES YOU MIGHT HAVE ARE TOO CLEVER BY HALF IN BACKING RATSO VITO BRUNO

Any quasi- pseudo- or crypto- Alt-Rightists should be more careful on their selection of "Sawdust Caesars" to take on the villainous barbarians.

True conservatives should know that it was the imperial Caesars that destroyed the republic not the barbarians; and ironically, it was the barbarians that destroyed the empire of the Caesars.

I believe that we are not in a "Weimar Amerika"; and we have more options than Bolshevism or Nazi-ism. I also believe that any political movement or group that pins its hopes on the present iteration of Vito Bruno, has no real hope(s) whatsoever, irrespective of the flawed situational ethics that led to his selections as the momentary champion of that movement or group.

Besides, even if Ratso Vito Bruno were to win, he would soon suffer the same fate as that man called "Bob" did in the last reapportionment. No version of Faust would make any "Faustian Bargain" for only two years.....

Anonymous said...

I maybe many things but I'm far from Alt-Right. I'm far more of a Ronald Reagan-Jack Kemp - Wiliam F Buckley conservative. In fact, we played a role in distancing Trump from Bannon. I don't even care for Tucker Carlson. My core view is Republicans were put on this earth to deliver tax cuts.

If there were choices like Sal Albanese your point would have greater resonance. What are you advocating? A vote for Andrew? Sitting it out? This NY Senate Seat is not the Hill where the ultimate battles will be fought. It is a litmus test. A petri dish.

The fate of the Republic does not rest on this race. Bolshevism and Nazism are the largely the same dish. The Nazi Brownshirts actually were called BeefSteaks. They wore Brown uniforms but were red inside because their ranks were filled with Communists. The Strasser Brothers and their followers - they were Hitler's chief rivals to the Party thrown at the time - wanted to break Jewish Capitalism and have an eternal alliance with the Soviet Union.

I could go and on here. The country is in great peril from the radical left. And Antifa has firm roots in Brooklyn. How are Andy's buddies the Lawyer Bombers doing by the way?

As I hinted at, we have bigger and more-long term plans. The chessboard is far more expansive than this seat. Districts will get re-construed. I just don't get why we wouldn't want to have another vote against Cuomo's excesses, extremist criminal justice reform, tax hikes, and burdensome regulations.

The reality is today McConnell delivered and we will confirm a new justice. If Trump picks the right nominee it will propel him to a victory my sense is he is already getting close to sealing. In his 2nd terms he has very bold and innovative plans for defanging the Left. So this will also shift the dynamics in the district, Brooklyn, and NYC.

Of course if Andy, Chris, Justin, DeBlasio, Stringer, Cuomo, and Corey Johnson get their way almost every productive person will leave NYC and NY. So all this debate will have been for not.

Everything about Ratso Vito Bruno shows that he is exactly that sort of obvious enemy in our own trenches.

705, you are obviously ignorant of some very important facts. The GOP state senate 'majority' when it was artificially kept in power with the votes of about half a dozen insurgent Democrats had moved left on many issues, and it was a rubber stamp for Andrew Cuomo on fiscal matters. Just as important, the phony opposition and permanent minority status of the Republicans is kept in place by a gentlemen's agreement between Andrew Cuomo and the leadership of the New York State Conservative Party.

Anonymous said...

Why are Marty Golden and bruno so chummy with Capano? It has to be killing Quaglione

11:40 AM no sane person in the world would hold the NY GOP in high regard. And this hasn't been an overnight development. But is the solution to continue to sling arrows against every single person who runs as a Republican? I'm still looking for solutions. What is the hope here? Should the Republican party just disband and leave the playing field to AOC, DeBlasio, Justin Brannan, Scott Stringer, Schumer, and Tish James?

Galewyn Massey at least offers a cogent strategy of cleansing our own ranks before mounting an attack. Unlike others on this board I don't presume to speak for the views of those I'm communicating with. So Galewyn am I correct in assuming you view Bruno as an ethical Eunich, Rino, imposter who will delay the rebirth of a viable conservative movement if elected? Moreover, given his seat will not change the balance of power in the NY Senate do you view it as a pyrrhic victory?

I don't know whether Ratso Vito Bruno is an ethical eunuch, but I am certain that those who selected him to be the GOP-Conservative Party Candidate for the State Senate are..... Vito Bruno is a self-promoting swashbuckler flying under a false flag of social conservatism and "law and order" jingoism. He is very likely to stab people that truly care about such things in the back.

I wouldn't call any win by Vito Bruno any kind of "victory" --- pyrrhic or otherwise.....

As for ceding the field to any of those Democrats that you mentioned, do the wounded and dying on the battlefield cede anything when they pass over and are carried off by the Valkyries ???

See what happens when you try to make arguments for a third party?

So you want a true vetted social conservative? Are there any names for future reference to support?

A place we differ is I see a defeat of Andrew Gounardes & the Fight Back BayRidge nutters as a victory. Even if it is on pure hygiene grounds. A bit of push back against the likes of Eugene Strupinsky and the bike Nazis isn't a bad thing.

As Patton noted, no soldier won a war by dying for his country. We aren't carcasses yet.
