What is left to say about John Quaglione --- after you see his Tweets and hear him talk

THIS IS THE SECOND OF MY SPOTLIGHT POSTS ON THE MANIFEST DEFICITS OF THE CURRENT CROP OF GOP CANDIDATES FOR CITY COUNCIL IN THE 2017 CYCLE  ---  LUCKILY,  FOR EVERYBODY INVOLVED, THIS SHOULD BE THE BRIEFEST

Look up the word "VAPID"  ---  in your dictionary  ---  in a thesaurus  ---  or on-line on your favorite internet device.....   Do you see where I'm going here ? ? ?

YES, IT'S JUST A FEW WORDS ABOUT "QUAGS";  "JOHNNY Q";  "JOHNNY CAKES";  AND, YES, ONE OF MY TOP CONTRIBUTOR'S FAVORITE,  "FREDO"  ---  THE INIMITABLE  JOHN QUAGLIONE  (RIGHT,  I DO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING,  "WHO WOULD WANT TO IMITATE HIM ?")

I don't need to go into all that he has had to say about his  own "credentials" and  "supreme qualifications";  what it comes down to is this  ---  basically, he says something like this:  "...   I've pretty much had the same job my whole life,  I work for Marty Golden,  mostly I hand out proclamations and show up at ribbon cuttings,  but sometimes I also try my hand at other things, like writing statements for my boss  ( If any of you have your own knowledge or experience about  how JQ has handled this particular "duty,"  I'll allow you a few moments to guffaw and laugh out loud.....)

Lately, John has been actively "campaigning."  (Let that seep in,  then think about it,  but not too long or you will go into an irreversible coma.....).

So far, his fund raising has been ahead of his fellow Republicans,  but not to show any prohibitive advantage (in fact, depending on how everything is targeted in the GOP Primary,  there might be more spent tearing down JQ than building him up).  At the same time,  Quag's fund raising is way behind that of several leading Democratic candidates for the same office.

His tweets are a little informative, but mostly they are very, very, very restful.  He brags/ reports/ goes-on-and-on-about (I really can't adequately describe it) the minutia in Bay Ridge (mostly the stuff that the Home Reporter, Courier Life and the Brooklyn Eagle didn't see fit to report on).  Let me give you a taste:  something about a new traffic light "at the a corner of... Narrows Avenue..." (Since his presser about how his boss speeded-up before hitting an old lady,  John loves to talk about slowing down the traffic to a crawl in Bay Ridge);  he tweets that he is doing more door to door and says that he sees that some people hang out flags; oh,  and my favorite,  another Tweet  about a house party (part of an ongoing series about these sparsely attended events), this time he says it was a perfect night for a house party (with a picture of Johnny Q  talking to empty chairs)  ---  that's enough, I am getting sleepy.

Maybe, I was wrong in how I started this post.  Johnny Cakes'  problem is not one of his deficits,  it's his unhealthy surplus of being "VAPID".....

Empty suit and vapid says it all.

Q can win with a set up like Marty. Nobody runs against him and he wins.

Anonymous said...

Q will win this big and Liam and Obrien will be done for good. .

I feel so bad for Quaglione. He's not a bad guy, really. He's just not cut out for being a candidate for public office. Hearing him speak is pure torture. I like him, and think he deserves better. A shame he won't get it.

RESPONSE, BACKFILL & A LESSON: THE "I DON'T WANT TO SET THE WORLD ON FIRE..." EDITION

TODAY'S LESSON --- THE USES OF A METAPHOR IN TELLING YOU ALL MORE ABOUT WHAT I'M THINKIN'

It needs to be said that --- as far as I'm concerned, none of the GOP candidates for the 43rd District council seat looks like they can set the world on fire, or even OUR little corner of Southwest Brooklyn..... Nonetheless, if "setting a fire" is a metaphor for good campaigning, then today's featured guest, Johnny Q, gets the "Freddy the Fireman" award for his preternatural gifts at extinguishing fires and hot embers (before YKW E-mails me or makes a snarky comment below, I already thought about "Fredo the Fireman").

BTW, after writing the headline for this comment above, I just had to listen to Bill Kenny's lead-singing and the rest of the Ink Spots 1941 gem for inspiration..... Then I learned that Horace Heidt's version of "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" was a bigger and earlier hit (I think I'll listen to that recording later today).

Marty Golden will not let John lose to Donovans guy McCabe, they will do WHATEVER it takes...beware

Anonymous said...

Marty cant carry Bay ridge for himself 2:00.

"WHATEVER" it takes will just result in Q and the short guy becoming 2 time losers

Anonymous said...

Say what you will about Q, but Liam's serious problem is that Manhattan residents can't vote in a Brooklyn primary.

Anonymous said...

Liam has more support from brooklyn republicans..they are going against Golden right under his damn nose and Golden, Orlando, and Q dont even see it ---yet

Anonymous said...

Liam has yet to campaign with residents from his council district and after he raised a fraction of what Bob raised last filing means flash in the pan candidacy.

Anonymous said...

Liam is out every day with council residents. .he has the best mail, and showed he can raise serious money..Q is on the run

Anonymous said...

I see Republican volunteers from all over NYC (including Manhattan) coming out to volunteer for Liam McCabe because he has the best shot of anyone to be the next Republican Councilman from any district.

Anonymous said...

He is only campaigning with paid Manhattan "volunteers" from his partner's consulting firm. No serious candidate would only raise $4,000 in a filing period.

RESPONSE: THE "IT'S LIKE HERDING CATS" EDITION

TO MOST OF THE COMMENTERS ABOVE --- WHY CAN'T YOU FOLKS STAY ON TOPIC ??? YOU ALL MUST BE DOPIC.....

MY ONE RESPONSE THAT REMAINS COMPLETELY ON THE TOPIC --- JQ'S BEING VAPID REMAINS UN-REBUTTED AND UNCHALLENGED

So far most of the comments above are just a round-robin rank-out fest with no clear winner and/or no clear loser.....

However, you know that there is one thing that clearly does stand out in the dozen or so comments above >>> NOBODY, I repeat, "N-O-B-O-D-Y" made one peep about John Quaglione not being vapid..... NOT ONE PEEP ABOUT THAT ! ! ! <<< I think one or two agreed that he was, but none said that he wasn't.

Anonymous said...

Vapid or not it's better than talking loud and saying nothing. Q has the money and he has Golden's support, that's more than enough against Liam and Bob.

UPDATE: THE "WHOOMP ! THERE IT IS...." EDITION

WHERE DO JOHN QUAGLIONE AND BOB CAPANO STAND ON GIVING FORMER BROOKLYN BOROUGH PRESIDENT MARTY MARKOWITZ' PENSION A HUGE $51,000 BOOST ???

I MEAN, SOMETHING JUST LIKE WHAT JOHNNY CAKES' BOSS MARTY GOLDEN SO SUDDENLY & QUIETLY SLIPPED INTO THE NYS SENATE WITH HIS BILL A FEW DAYS AGO --- IN FACT, IT WAS BEING DONE SO QUIETLY THAT NEITHER GOLDEN NOR HIS STAFF ( FOR THE RECORD WOULDN'T THAT MEAN QUAGLIONE ?) REFUSED TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING ABOUT IT TO THE NEW YORK POST

For anybody interested that such gifts are being exchanged between long-time political buddies, it's all there in black and white (See "Political pal pushes bill to boost ex-borough president’s pension" by Kirsten Conley, 5/26/17, NY Post/ Metro [http://nypost.com/2017/05/26/political-pal-pushes-bill-to-boost-ex-borough-presidents-pension/]; see also "— MARKOWITZ'S pension sweetener — WHAT ALBANY IS READING: — SWEETENING MARTY’S PENSION..." by Jimmy Vielkind, Azi Paybarah & others, including POLITICO New York’s Bill Mahoney, 5/26/17, Politico/ New York Playbook [http://www.politico.com/tipsheets/new-york-playbook/2017/05/26/teenager-to-challenge-idcs-peralta-markowitzs-pension-sweetner-kushner-now-linked-to-russia-probe-220525]).

Marty Golden's homepage neither lists the Gift to Marty Markowitz Bill in its "Legislation" section nor in its "Newsroom" section, which lists John Quaglione as the contact person for State Senator Golden on such matters.

For Liams sake, I hope all those being paid by Liams partners firm for Liams "volunteers" is properly reported to CFB. .if not, sounds like a NY Post story..

Anonymous said...

For Bobs sake I hope he loses 300 pounds

Anonymous said...

Vapid doesn't mean Quaglione is a bad guy. Just an awful candidate.

Anonymous said...

Q will break Liam in half like a boy

Anonymous said...

John Q. will never get a chance to break Liam like a boy. Liam McCabe will be broken like a boy by Mike Long, Jerry Kassar, David Ryan, Ross Brady, Fran Vella-Marone and a few others. It will happen at 486 78th Street, it won't be long in coming and it won't take very long at all.

Anonymous said...

I feel bad for Liam, he doesnt even know Obrien is on the deal to make sure Q will be the conservative party nominee ..it will be announced in the next week and there goes Liams candidacy. .they are stringing him along

Anonymous said...

How Liam finishes this statement will show if he knows anything about politics at all: "I'm so sure that the Conservative Party will endorse me before petitioning, that if the don't endorse me, I will *^&99 #@*! ^2 %*!&@6 and then I'll 14%&^! &%1-+ABCooo...."

Withdraw and endorse John Q

I REITERATE --- "V-A-P-I-D"

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 9:01 AM"

First, I do know who you are.....

Second, I will address your point when I do Liam McCabe's guest spot about the overwhelming deficits of all the GOP candidates in 2017.....

Anonymous said...

I ran into an older man yesterday (maybe 45 years old). He was on the street campaigning for Liam. His name was Rob or Bob something I don't remember. But we started talking and sure enough, he was from MANHATTAN!!! I couldn't help but start laughing my ass off. Not only was he from Manhattan but he was the VP of the Manhattan Republican Party! and THIS is why Liam will lose in September

Anonymous said...

1002 am
Yes it was Robert Morgan, a VP with the Manhattan Rep Party campaigning for Liam

Anonymous said...

hey 10:02.
First point: 45 is not older
Second point: Manhattan is part of our Republic and no passport to enter Brooklyn is necessary
Third point: Somebody traveling from Manhattan to campaign for Liam shows how committed his followers are. I havent noticed any of Bobs neighbors from Staten Island coming to Brooklyn to campaign for his third place goal

Anonymous said...

John Q has followers from all over the city campaigning for him, especially Brooklyn...not just Manhattan like Liam

Galewyn Massey said...

RESPONSE: THE "DONUTS & HOLES" EDITION

TO THE LAST FEW COMMENTERS ABOVE

Having anybody come in to help out with a campaign is a "Plus" not a "Minus"..... As a Republican, whenever I see people working for Bob, Liam or John, I think that is a good not a bad thing for Republicans in Southwest Brooklyn and the Brooklyn GOP generally.

For a while now, I have focused on what I perceived as the "deficits" of the GOP candidates collectively, while pointing out particular individual shortcomings..... I did that in the hope that they jointly and severally might do something to fix things while there still was time to do so.

John Q can still put some more pizzazz into his campaign and his personal presentation, enough to show that there will be a newer, better and more enthusiastic John Quaglione in 2017 than the one we saw in 2013; Bobby C. can still get some more mass or heft into EVERYTHING that he's doing, at least enough to show that he WILL HAVE A BIGGER CAMPAIGN in the Fall of 2017 than he did eight years ago. Liam needs to show that his foothold on the Brooklyn GOP is rock solid and not easily moved or removed (more about him soon, when it's his turn under the microscope).

As Republicans in Brooklyn we are completely surrounded and out-gunned. Forming into a defensive circle is not a terrible initial tactic, but we have to be sure to turn outward and shoot in that direction, if we don't we're participating in a circular firing squad. But, even shooting outward from a tight circle is not ultimately a winning tactic either --- just ask Custer. Any successful plan requires a "break-out" phase --- just ask Eisenhower before, during and after Normandy. So far none of the 2017 GOP candidates have even suggested what that might look like --- much less, how it might be accomplished.....

Anonymous said...

I don't know if John Q has people from Manhattan campaigning for him in Bay Ridge, but one this is for sure, if they are from Manhattan and campaigning for John, it's not because John's business partner is paying them to do so. The jig is so up on Liam's so called ground game.

Anonymous said...

I like when Liam talks about "making payroll" as a "small business owner"
Liam ran a consulting firm with 2 people. Him and that other guy. How hard was making payroll? The only real small business owner in this race is none other than Bob Capano. The leading Republican candidate in the race for the 43rd.

Still time for Fran Vella to jump in

RESPONSE: THE "THERE AIN'T NO NEED" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:06 PM"

Even if Fran Vella-Marone wanted to run in 2017, there is no obvious upside play there for the Conservative Party. And if the KCCP does not NEED to put up Fran for City Council in 2017, they probably wouldn't do it.

UPDATE: THE "CAPANO COMES IN FIRST" EDITION

IF IT WERE ONLY A RACE TO GET MEMORIAL DAY PARADE PHOTOS UP ON SOCIAL MEDIA, BOB CAPANO WOULD BE THE WINNER

My quick run-through on the 43rd District GOP Council Candidates social media sites shows that Bob Capano beat the competition in getting his Memorial Day Parade photos out to his adoring fans on Facebook (although I didn't find them on Twitter).....

Not only was Bobby C. shown to be waving a flag at the parade, he was there in front of people around a Catsimatidis parade float..... Now. that certainly looks to be BIGGER than what the other guys are likely to show, when they finally get around to posting pictures, if they ever do.....

Anonymous said...

Capano on a Catsimatidis float waving to common people in the rain, as if anyone had any idea who he was... pathetic. Liam McCame & Went was there with his Upper West Side devotees but my MAN Quaglione was working the rope line hard!! Like a pro. Old Marty was struggling to keep with Johnny Boy. That makes me think Q has the fire in his belly needed to win this thing!
Go Q Go! #Q4U !

Anonymous said...

7:10, you say that '...Quaglione was working the rope line...', Jeez, Louise, you can't be serious.
Where along this parade route was there a crowd and a 'rope line'?

RESPONSE: THE "SAD DAY IN THE RAIN" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 7:10 PM" & "... AT 8:28 PM"

THIS YEAR'S MEMORIAL DAY PARADE IN BAY RIDGE MOSTLY FEATURED SOME PEOPLE WITH BUMBERSHOOTS WATCHING SOME OTHERS GETTING WET

Maybe, "... at 7:10 PM" was speaking figuratively..... I looked at every photo posted by JQ, none of then shows anything like what "... at 7:10 PM" described above.

Anonymous said...

Unless on the primary day they let Liam and his Manhattan "volunteers" stand directly outside the polling booths with cute dogs, the voting result will be very disappointing for him.

RESPONSE: THE "SO MUCH TO DO BEFORE PRIMARY DAY" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 5:40 AM"

All of the GOP candidates have so much to do between now and Primary Day..... Let's see who stays in for all of it as we go along. Maybe they all will fall by the wayside, who knows.....

Hmmmmm ? ! ! ! ?

Anonymous said...

Which of these candidates has the most experience with Primaries?

Does anyone know what they are talking about?

Galewyn Massey said...

RESPONSE: THE "THAT'S WHERE LUCRETIA HAS THE EDGE" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:12 AM"

LUCRETIA REGINA-POTTER HAS RUN IN HER SHARE OF PRIMARIES OVER THE YEARS --- ALMOST ALL OF THEM OF THE "FIORELLO LA GUARDIA CLUB AGAINST THE WORLD" VARIETY --- FOR AN INDEPENDENT GOP TYPE CAMPAIGN [ABSOLUTELY OUR FAVORITE KIND], LUCRETIA R-P HAS A BIG EDGE ON THE OTHERS

The flipside of the perennial candidate knock is the equally valid point that Lucretia can get on the ballot almost any time that she wants. She has become a master at the Independent GOP petitioning route and she is very good at the behind the scenes digging during election litigation that can keep people "ON THE BALLOT" and knock people "OFF THE BALLOT"..... She even has had some success with Conservative Party OTB petitions.....

If Lucretia does decide to go after the City Council seat in 2017, getting her out of the race won't be easy for anybody (btw, so far, the only mention of her being a NYCC candidate in the 43rd District that I have seen was in the 5/15/17 piece by Kadia Goba in "Kings County Politics"; there's no actual fund raising filings or announcement of a campaign for the NYCC slot, and her web pages don't reflect any such run).....
