The Democrats are igniting a “Train of Powder” with all their talk about “TREASON” by President Trump

To accuse a sitting President of the United States of being guilty of “treason” almost in any context intended to diminish that President’s authority and ability to govern might itself be one of the "predicate acts” for counter-charges of “Treason”

A few leading Democrats have loosely thrown around the  “T”  word in connection with Trump's Comey firing and some other matters.  ---  That is treading pretty darn close to other indicia of a treasonous conspiracy resounding, perhaps even abounding, throughout the land

Maybe, the latest carping about Trump's treason is even close enough to illegality, that the FBI needs to launch a criminal investigation of some of the usual suspects on the left, perhaps even among some of the leading Democrats

Many years ago,  a writer,  political historian and social critic,  Rebecca West,  wrote a series of articles for the  “New Yorker”  about pro-Nazi sympathizers and under-cover agents in Britain.  Those article were then published in book form as “A Train of Powder”;  and some of that material was re-published in a later Rebecca West work,  “The Meaning of Treason”;  and all of that was reworked and/or cross-referenced in a final interation,  “The New Meaning of Treason.”   Almost all of West’s focus was on old-school villains,  like pro-Nazis  and pro-Commies  ---  finishing up with a post-script about Kim Philby in her last work.

Covering the tracking-down, trials and condemnation of several traitors in many different contexts,  Ms. West shows us that, even though treason itself is not subtle once exposed as such,  the constituent predicate acts often times can be.   And,  even if not subtle,  often-times they are vague, and/or ambiguous.

A recent reviewer/ contemporary critic of West’s and some other works by others said this:   “The questions [raised by Rebecca West] lose none of their relevance when transposed to an age in which the degree of state surveillance is matched only by the leakiness of information channels. As we take the moral measure of organisations such as Wikileaks, and of the activities of Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden, West’s considered reflections on the need to ‘unite care for security with the determination to preserve our liberties’ seem increasingly pressing. ‘It is our duty,’ she observes, ‘to readjust constantly the balance between public and private liberties. Men must be capable of and executing and insisting on social change, if they are to reform or even maintain civilization, and capable too of furnishing the rebellion which is sometimes necessary if society is not to perish of immobility.  Therefore all men should have a drop of treason in their veins, if the nations are not to go soft like so many sleepy pears.’...” (See  “The Alphabet Library: M is for The Meaning of Treason, 'simply superb storytelling' ”  by  Tim Martin,  5/20/14,  The Telegraph   [http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/10840548/The-Alphabet-Library-M-is-for-The-Meaning-of-Treason-simply-superb-storytelling.html]).

All of that was a rather long prologue for what will be an even longer main section.

WHO IS CLOSER TO BEING GUILTY OF ACTS COVERED BY THE TERM "TREASON" ? ? ?

Lately, certain people in what is being called  a "Resistance  Movement" here in America have been playing fast and loose using the term “treason” when referring to President of the United States Donald Trump.   It might be easier to be merely dismissive of these clattering, clashing cymbals;  however, thanks to a compliant and even cooperative mainstream press,  these sour notes have been writ large.  In fact, their reach and repetition strongly suggest that somebody is trying to gin up  a rebellious spirit throughout the land;  and, as such, that cannot readily or properly be ignored.

THE U.S. CONSTITUTION AND ITS STATUTORY ECHO

It has been well-said that “treason” is the only criminal act defined in the U.S. Constitution.
According to that constitutional definition,   “…  Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court….”  (See U.S. Constitution, Art III, Sec. 3).  There is also a similar-appearing codified statutory definition of “treason”:   “… Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States…." (See  18 U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason; [(June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 807Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, § 330016(2)(J), Sept. 13, 1994108 Stat. 2148]).

NOTHING DONE BY DONALD TRUMP  ---  AS PRESIDENT, PRESIDENT-ELECT, CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT  OR PRIVATE CITIZEN REMOTELY APPROACHED THE LEGAL STANDARDS OF "TREASON" APPLICABLE IN THESE UNITED STATES

None of those Constitutional and  statutory definitions and proscriptions apparently applies to Donald Trump under any of the scenarios and theories advanced by the Democrats, the mainstream media and/or anybody else running around with their hair on fire screaming things like "treason" over some of what Donald Trump has done since becoming president, or even leading up to becoming president.

DEMOCRATS AND OTHERS WHO ENGAGE IN MAKING CHARGES OF "TREASON" AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP IN ORDER TO DIMINISH HIS AUTHORITY AND/OR HIS ABILITY TO EXERCISE HIS DUTIES AS PRESIDENT RISK INVESTIGATION(S) FOR-  AND CHARGES OF-  "TREASON"

Ever since the U.S. Constitution was enacted, there have been fewer than forty prosecutions for treason and many fewer convictions.  Nonetheless, from very early in the history of the United States, "levying war" has been interpreted as including internal insurrections and seditious acts.

In one of the early instances, not long after  the U.S. Constitution was ratified, several men were convicted of treason in connection with the Whiskey Rebellion: however, they were pardoned by President George Washington.

Not long after that, the very famous treason trial of Aaron Burr occurred.  However, Burr's prosecution resulted in acquittal on the charge of treason. Burr's case was brought to trial after a grand jury was presented with a purported letter from Burr that by its contents proposed the notion of stealing certain lands from the Louisiana Purchase.  At trial no witnesses testified; and as a result, Burr was acquitted, even though the Jefferson administration threw its full influence against Burr. Burr was later acquitted again when lesser charges were brought against him.

THE CURRENT SCENE MIGHT NEED SOME "TREASON" SHOW TRIALS FOR SOME TOP DEMOCRATS AND THEIR ALLIES IN MAINSTREAM MEDIA

Remember, it is those that are trying to negate the election of Trump as President, and/or diminish the effectiveness of his presidency, who have engaged in concerted and apparently coordinated activity under the banner and rubric of "The Resistance" or "Resistance."  The current use of those terms has made specific references and comparisons to the World War II armed resistance against the Germans in Occupied France. Furthermore, some of the concerted and apparently coordinated activities against Trump and his administration's policies have included instances of mob violence. The presence of elements of an armed insurrection have been found to be a sufficient predicate to prosecutions for treason against those "giving aid and comfort" but not actively involved in the insurrection.

Some of today's Democrats and the disloyal mainstream press need a wake call and a lesson  --- maybe some treason charges and trials will help refocus their professed loyalties, if not their minds.

No need to hang 'em high yet;  for now, just show them the noose.

Most of your readers are too young to have been around in politics during the Watergate scandal. It destroyed the Republican Party nationwide. The same fate awaiting it in 2018.

Oh its the democrats igniting things?

Shirley you must be kidding.

Next years mid term elections will send the GOP the way of the Whigs

Even Dandy Dan will be beat by DA McMahon

"WHIGS" --- "SAME FATE AWAITING [GOP] IN 2018" --- YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR HISTORY OR YOUR POLITICS

You really don't know much about this stuff do you ? BTW, I think that you're making less sense lately is due to the fact that you're not drinking any more.

The election that occurred NEXT after the Watergate story broke was one of the biggest Republican victories ever, with the GOP strongly united behind the re-election of Richard Milhous Nixon. Then, after the GOP largely turned against their own party's standard bearer, who had just led them to victory, they lost big in the election cycles of '74 and '76. The GOP comeback started in 1978; they had a huuuuuge win behind Reagan in 1980; and the Republicans have had many successful cycles against the Democrats ever since, that's coming up on forty years now.

One of the things that directly came out of the "Watergate Scandal" is the almost constantly increasing aggressive partisanship that has destroyed the possibility of any "middle of the road" coalitions that had been the hallmark of mid- to late-20th Century congresses.

BTW, when the GOP presidential nominee immediately before Nixon, Barry Goldwater, told Nixon he had to resign, Nixon resigned; if Romney ever would try the same to Trump what do you think would happen ? ? ?

Also BTW, you might be right about Dandy Dan..... but for other reasons that you and I have already talked about over a cocktail for me and a glass of water for you.....

Lets call this "Just The Facts" edition.

After next years election the Democrats will control the Senate by 54 to 56 seat majority. The Democrats will also take control of the House with the GOP losing 48 to 57 seats. That's a wipeout.

Statewide the IDC in NYS Senate will caucus with the Democrats putting the last nail in the coffin of the NYS GOP. Outside of all this hundreds of other GOP Mayors, Governors and others will go down. Take a look at this years race for Governor of New Jersey. The GOP candidate won't get more than 30%.

BTW: Some would consider it Treason when Russia pays your campaign "Volunteers" like Manaforte and Flynn.

SINCE YOU STOPPED DRINKING, I'M PRETTY SURE THAT YOU DEVELOPED A CASE OF MULTIPLE PERSONALITY DISORDER..... MAYBE THIS COMMENT WILL SHOCK YOU BACK TO NORMAL

The "... [some who] would consider it Treason..." would just be 100% wrong, unequivocally and patently so.

If the Russians DID pay Manaforte (BTW, I doubt that he was any kind of "volunteer") and Flynn DIRECTLY for their work on the 2016 presidential campaign, it would probably violate some of the overly strict campaign finance laws, but that would probably be the limit of anything on that front.

If it turns out that Vladdy Putin actively intervened directly and saved the United States from Hillary Clinton and her ilk, I think we should rename Broadway everywhere in New York from Brooklyn to Albany "Putinway"; and declare March 17th Saint Vladmir Day, and have the annual parade previously held on that day declared the Russia-America Special Relationship Day Parade.

BTW, after seeing Chuck Schumer on the Sunday morning shows today, whoever is handling Trump's Russia liaison needs to put in a special request for some polonium (Po-84) medicine for Charles from Grand Army Plaza, and the sooner the better.

Enough with 9 50 something.

When the President appoints the director of NSA and finds out he is a paid agent for the Russians and then proceeds to cover it up then that is treason. This is not some third rate failed break in to look for naked photos of John deans wife. This is treason.

Galewyn Massey said...

RESPONSE: THE "WRONG AGAIN & AGAIN" EDITION

NOBODY HAS EVEN SUGGESTED THE NSA DIRECTOR WAS A PAID AGENT OF RUSSIA OR ANYBODY ELSE --- PRESIDENT TRUMP NEVER NOMINATED A NEW NSA DIRECTOR, BECAUSE HE NEVER NEEDED TO DO SO

NOW, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, I'M PRETTY SURE THAT YOU WERE CORRECTED ABOUT THIS MISTAKE AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE ON THIS BLOG --- BTW, DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY ON ONE OF THE SHORT YELLOW BUSES ? ? ?

STILL NOT "TREASON"

Admiral Michael S. Rogers has been NSA Director since April 3, 2014. Although it had been rumored that Mike Rogers would be President Trump's new Director of National Intelligence, that job went to former GOP Senator Dan Coates, and Rogers stayed in all of his prior positions going into the Trump Administration.

His name is Mike, he has a military background, he's been in charge of multiple key intelligence organizations, but he is not Mike Flynn. Flynn was tapped by Trump to be his National Security Adviser, that position has the initials "NSA"; however the NSA is not the "Director of the NSA".

Also, even if EVERYTHING you suggested about a Trump cover up about Flynn were correct, it still wouldn't be "Treason" --- I even doubt that any laws were broken. As Nixon said to Frost after the whole Watergate thing --- "... When you're President, it's not against the law...."

Relax, take a deep breath, go out and get an adult beverage (I know that you really want to), and get on the stick with your comments to my blog, we all expect more from you --- especially if you want to become a respected governmental officer.

A FEW OF MY REGULAR CONTRIBUTORS AND SOME OCCASIONAL COMMENTERS SEEM TO BE COMFORTABLE SAYING WHATEVER COMES INTO THEIR HEADS, WHETHER IT HAS A BASIS IN FACT OR NOT

I KNOW A "JAMES BRENNEN" AND I KNOW A "JUSTIN BRANNAN" --- BUT I DON'T KNOW A "JUSTIN BRENNEN"

More important, I know that the person described in my comment above "... at 9:22 PM" is not "James Brennen," "Justin Brannan" or somebody named "Justin Brennen," if that person even exists.

If anybody were to have been "outed" in my comment above "... at 9:22 PM" --- it would only be the person referred to in the comment and it would only be to that person him or herself. That is because he or she would be the only person able to connect the ALL the dots mentioned in my comment above "... at 9:22 PM" , and for any and everybody else it would be purely guesswork.

Trump's biggest problem is losing his base over his flip-flops and backslides on things like the Mexico Border Wall, Obamacare repeal and not renegotiating old trade deals. Neither the Democrats nor the establishment Republicans matter one bit if Trump keeps pushing the part of his agenda that he campaigned on. As long as Trump is seen as fighting for them, his base of supporters love the the tweets, the confrontation and all the chaos. Trump needs to listen to only one adviser, Ann Coulter. She should be maned his chief of staff in place of Priebus.

TO THE "DEMOCRAT TROLL(S)" [OR WHOEVER MIGHT BE IMPERSONATING DEMOCRAT TROLLS] COMMENTING ABOVE

SO FAR >>> ALL <<< THE DEMOCRATS HAVE COME UP WITH AGAINST TRUMP IS THEIR JOINT, SEVERAL AND COLLECTIVE DICKS IN THEIR HANDS.....

Let me try to be more precise and descriptive, just for you my special friends and followers.

As Sonny Corleone's classic line goes: "Listen, I want somebody good and I mean very good...to plant that gun. I don't want my brother coming out of that toilet with just his dick in his hands, alright?"

So far, the Democrats' script against Trump is as if they are Michael, but when he reached behind the old toilet tank at Louie's in the Bronx, there was no gun there.

We are left with an image of Michael coming out of the jakes at Louie's with only his dick in his hand; and having to confront Sollazzo and Captain McCluskey armed with only that. (Except it isn't a young Al Pacino that we can see playing Michael in the alternative reality make-believe, instead it's a bunch Democrat deplorable senators, like: a balding Chuck Schumer; or an "I can be jackal-like all the time" Mark Warner, or a mendacious leather-faced Dick Blumenthal; or a prune-like Ron Wyden; or a pathetic Tim Kane; or any number of Democrat women senators, who are probably more comfortable with aforementioned male Democrat senators' dicks in their hands than their male colleagues are holding it by themselves.

Bottom line, Trump is still winning.....

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "DRUDGE REPORT HEADLINE" EDITION

I FIRST SAW THIS EARLIER AS A STORY IN BREITBART NEWS--- NOW, IT'S A "DRUDGE REPORT" HEADLINE --- AND SOMETHING IS BREWING IN WASHINGTON

FOX NEWS AFFILIATE IN WASHINGTON DC SAYS THAT MURDERED DNC STAFFER HAD BEEN IN TOUCH WITH WIKILEAKS

LOCAL FOX REPORTER SAYS THAT "FOX NEWS 5" WILL BE FOLLOWING-UP ON THE STORY WITH MORE INFORMATION ON TUESDAY (TODAY)

The banner headline above the masthead "Drudge Report" blares out --- "DEAD DNC STAFFER 'HAD CONTACT' WITH WIKILEAKS"; and that headline links to a report by the Washington D.C. affiliate of Fox News.....

.... And Fox News 5, the local affiliate of Fox News in Washington D.C., is reporting that --- " It has been almost a year since Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was murdered in the nation's capital. There have been no solid answers about why he was killed until now.... Rich was shot and killed last July in Northwest D.C and police have suggested the killing in the District's Bloomingdale neighborhood was a botched robbery. However, online conspiracy theories have tied the murder to Rich's work at the DNC.... Just two months shy of the one-year anniversary of Rich's death, FOX 5 has learned there is new information that could prove these theorists right...." (See "Family's private investigator: There is evidence Seth Rich had contact with WikiLeaks prior to death" by Marina Marraco, 5/15/17 [updated 5/16/17] [http://www.fox5dc.com/news/local-news/254852337-story]).

Ms. Marraco's report for Fox goes to state the following: ".... Rod Wheeler, a private investigator hired by the Rich family, suggests there is tangible evidence on Rich's laptop that confirms he was communicating with WikiLeaks prior to his death.... Now, questions have been raised on why D.C. police, the lead agency on this murder investigation for the past ten months, have insisted this was a robbery gone bad when there appears to be no evidence to suggest that...."

Rod Wheeler is a former D.C.P.D. homicide detective that is running an investigation into Rich’s murder for the deceased's family; and he says that he believes there is a cover-up and the D.C.P.D. has been told to back down from the investigation.

According to investigator Wheeler, "[Neither] the police department nor the FBI have been forthcoming.... They haven't been cooperating at all. I believe that the answer to solving [Seth Rich's] death lies on [Rich's] computer, which I believe is either at the [D.C.P.D. or] at the FBI. I have been told both.”

When Fox News 5 asked Wheeler if his sources had told him whether there was information that linked Seth Rich to Wikileaks, Wheeler answered, “Absolutely. Yeah. That's confirmed."

The Rich family investigator also told Fox News 5 that --- "I have a source inside the police department that has looked at me straight in the eye and said, ‘Rod, we were told to stand down on this case and I can’t share any information with you.’ Now, that is highly unusual for a murder investigation, especially from [the D.C.P.D.]. Again, I don’t think it comes from the [Police Chief's] office...."

Then came Wheeler's most provocative disclosure to Fox News 5 --- ".... I do believe there is a correlation between the [D.C.] mayor's office and the DNC and that is the information that will come out [Tuesday]."

THE BREITBART COVERAGE

A similar feature to the one quoted and cited above appeared on Breitbart News.

That report was kicked off with a very incendiary dual banner headline --- "Not Russia, But an Inside Job? -- Report: Investigator Says Evidence Showing Murdered DNC Staffer Was Emailing With WikiLeaks" that dual headline linked to a full length feature article that largely tracked the text report of Marina Marraco for Fox News 5, cited above (See "Report: Investigator Says Evidence Showing Deceased DNC Staffer Seth Rich Was Emailing With WikiLeaks" by Jeff Poor [w/ video link to Fox News 5 report], 5/15/17, Breitbart News/ Video [http://www.breitbart.com/video/2017/05/15/report-investigator-says-evidence-showing-deceased-dnc-staffer-seth-rich-emailing-wikileaks/]).

One very interesting item in the Breitbart story was this: ".... Fox New 5 reporter Marina] Marraco went on to add that Wheeler’s reference to [additional] information coming out Tuesday would be broadcast on the Fox News Channel."

UPDATE: THE "FAKE NEWS FRENZY" EDITION

BOTH THE "WASHINGTON POST" AND THE "NY TIMES" HAVE REPORTED A THINLY SOURCED BOMBSHELL THAT JUST DOESN'T ADD UP

ON THE OTHER HAND BOTH THE SOURCING AND THE ACKNOWLEDGED WITHHOLDING OF IMPORTANT DETAILS IN THE LEAKED MATERIAL IS EVIDENCE THAT THE LEAK IS A HIGH LEVEL BREACH OF SECURITY AND PROOF THAT THE WA-PO AND NYT ARE KNOWINGLY TRAFFICKING IN ILLEGALLY OBTAINED INFORMATION [YOU KNOW, JUST LIKE WIKILEAKS]

ACCORDING TO NEWSMAX IT'S ALL PART AND PARCEL OF "... A SERIOUS AND ILLEGAL ATTACK ON THE PRESIDENCY..." THAT "... UNDERMINE[S] THE COUNTRY, TRUST IN THE PRESIDENT AND HIS ABILITY TO MAINTAIN GLOBAL LEADERSHIP...."

In a "home page" featured article by by Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy, the long-time investigative reporter strips bare the Washington Post's and the mainstream media's questionable top story of the week.

Here's how Mr. Ruddy began his commentary --- "The Washington Post reported Monday that President Trump revealed 'highly classified' intelligence to Russia Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during their recent meeting at the White House.... But the Post forgot to mention that the President’s conversation with Lavrov is itself among the most secret and classified matters our government holds – and the leak of key parts of that conversation is likely a crime.... This is now the third time in a short period that the president's most secret and private discussions with a world leader have been leaked to The Washington Post...." (See "Trump Made No 'Classified' Leak, Someone Else Did" by Christopher Ruddy, 5/15/17, Newsmax/ Home/ Christopher Ruddy [http://www.newsmax.com/ChristopherRuddy/Christopher-Ruddy-Trump-no-leak-Washington-Post/2017/05/15/id/790306/]).

Ruddy went on to bell the cat of the Democrat-allied media, as follows: ".... Such leaks are a serious and illegal attack on the presidency. They undermine the country, trust in the president and his ability to maintain global leadership.... There is a lot more of the onion to peel with this Washington Post story.... If you are watching CNN and MSNBC you may think the president committed a crime or even a horrific act of treason by sharing with the Russians secret intel and even super-secret sources.... But when we continue to peel this noxious onion we discover the facts just don't measure up to the allegations...."

Ruddy goes on to completely deconstruct the entire Wa-Po story, piece by piece --- but his strongest assertion is this: "The Post headlines that the president revealed 'highly classified' information, suggesting this was perhaps either illegal, improper, or both.... Forgive me [says Ruddy], but the last I checked the president is commander-in-chief.... He can decide what is a classified secret. He decides what can be shared with allies, adversaries, or even the public. That's his decision – not some bureaucrat's!"

UPDATE: THE NEW YORK TIMES COMEY MEMO" EDITION

ANOTHER DAY --- MORE FAKE NEWS --- THE DEMOCRAT-MSM CONSPIRACY TO DEPOSE THE DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED POTUS DONALD TRUMP CONTINUES APACE

NOW IS THE TIME FOR >>> ALL GOOD REPUBLICANS AND ANY OTHER GOOD AMERICANS <<< TO STAND SHOULDER TO SHOULDER AGAINST THE GREATEST EXISTENTIAL THREAT TO OUR AMERICAN DEMOCRACY THE RADICALIZED DEMOCRATS AND THEIR ALLIES IN THE MEDIA

Literally Michael came out of the toilet with only his dick in his hand in this NY Times article about a meeting between Comey and Trump at the White House. In spite of his long explanation of what might be "evidence," the New York Times' Michael Schmidt simply has ZERO credible evidence to back up his claim that late in January through early in February 2017 there was a White House meeting wherein President Trump asked or even suggested anything illegal to FBI Director James Comey regarding any investigation of National Security Adviser Michael Flynn (See "Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation" by Michael S. Schmidt, 5/16/17, NY Times/ Politics [https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/16/us/politics/james-comey-trump-flynn-russia-investigation.html?_r=0]).

It's not even news anymore --- just another day, just another flimsy charge, more TV time of Democrats running around foaming at the mouth and more cable news panels of people who only keep wishing they can do something to stop the President of the United States from governing.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "DEMOCRATS TRY A PRE-EMPTIVE DEFENSE ON THE SETH RICH FRONT" EDITION

IN THE SWAMP THAT IS WASHINGTON, D.C. --- THE DEMOCRATS IN WASHINGTON'S CITY GOVERNMENT HAVE ORDERED THE W.M.P.D. HOMICIDE DETECTIVES TO "STAND DOWN" FROM ANY FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS OF ALTERNATIVE THEORIES TO SETH RICH'S MURDER....

MEANWHILE, DNC LEVEL DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO PRE-EMPTIVELY SPIKE (SOME CALL IT DOING "DAMAGE CONTROL") ANY STORY THAT MIGHT INCLUDE ANY "EVIDENCE" THAT THE WIKILEAKS DISCLOSURES DURING THE 2016 CAMPAIGN CAME FROM SOMEBODY ON THE DNC STAFF --- THE MSM HAS JOINED THE DEMS IN THEIR EFFORTS

According to a report in the "Daily Caller" --- "A campaign operative warns that if emails are found linking a slain Democratic National Committee (DNC) staffer to the 2016 leak of thousands of the partisan organization’s internal emails, they should be disregarded because they could have been altered.... Brad Bauman issued the warning, which rehashes the DNC’s damage control strategy in the aftermath of WikiLeaks publishing more than 44,000 internal committee emails. The leaks showed Donna Brazile, another Democratic campaign operative, tipped off former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about debate questions in advance, among [many other very embarrassing] revelations.... Brazile and other Democrats claimed for months the emails were 'falsified.' However, Brazile admitted in March 2017 that the emails WikiLeaks published were real, and she called giving the debate question to Clinton a 'mistake I will forever regret.'..." (See "Dem Operative Says To Ignore Any Evidence Linking DNC Staff To WikiLeaks" by Luke Rosiak, 5/16/17, Daily Caller/ Investigative Group [http://dailycaller.com/2017/05/16/dem-operative-says-to-ignore-any-evidence-linking-dnc-staff-to-wikileaks/]).

While, working on this comment, I see that the NY Times is weighing-in with an attack on the Fox News coverage (focusing on Tuesday night's Hannity program) and to discredit the family's former investigator, Rod Wheeler, who appeared on Hannity on Tuesday night. Interestingly, the source of the Times story is Brad Bauman, who is described as the family spokesman; Bauman is also descibed as a Democrat operative that is representing the Rich family Pro Bono (See "How the Murder of a D.N.C. Staffer Fueled Conspiracy Theories" by Jonah Engel Bromwich, 5/17/17, NY Times/ U.S. [https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/17/us/seth-rich-dnc-wikileaks.html?_r=0]; >>> please, do notice, that the http link address to this NY Times article is categorized as follows: "... us/seth-rich-dnc-wikileaks.html?..." <<< that's somewhat interesting, I think.

Interestingly, almost as soon as the Hannity program was off the air on Tuesday night, "Media Matters" had its own critique of the program; it said that Hannity went on with his feature even though most of its content had been debunked earlier on Tuesday by CNN (See "Sean Hannity Pushes Seth Rich Conspiracy Theory Even After Story Falls Apart" Media Matters Staff, 5/16/17, Media Matters/ Take Action [https://www.mediamatters.org/video/2017/05/16/sean-hannity-pushes-seth-rich-conspiracy-theory-even-after-story-falls-apart/216501]; see also the CNN feature referred to in the Media Matters item previously cited: "Story on DNC staffer's murder dominated conservative media -- hours later it fell apart" by Oliver D'Arcy, 5/16/17, CNN/ Media/ Money [http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/16/media/seth-rich-family-response-claims-of-wikileaks-contact/index.html]).

Not content with their initial blast at Fox News and Hannity, "Media Matters" followed up a few hours ago with another attack of Fox and Hannity for flacking for President Trump, and trying to create distraction from the current coverage about President Trump's security leaks to the Russians, and his telling FBI Director Comey to stop investigating General Fynn (See "Sean Hannity, Seth Rich, And Fox News’ Ghoulish Attempt To Salvage Trump's Presidency" by Matt Gertz, 5/17/17, Media Matters/ Take Action [https://www.mediamatters.org/blog/2017/05/17/sean-hannity-seth-rich-and-fox-news-ghoulish-attempt-salvage-trumps-presidency/216512]).
