Will the 2017 City Council races introduce the new star of the Brooklyn GOP ???

No, it’s not the ruggedly handsome Uberman,  Liam McCabe  ---  Wrong again,  if you guessed the media-savvy man-with-a-plan,  Bob Capano  ---  and I certainly am not talking about Marty Golden’s amanuensis and almost-but-not-quite Chief of Staff,  John Quaglione…..

THEN, MANY OF THE NOT-YET-IN-THE-KNOW GOP RANK-AND-FILERS COULD WELL BE ASKING THIS QUESTION AT THIS TIME:

“GALEWYN, WHO COULD YOU POSSIBLY
BE TALKING ABOUT  ? ? ?”

THE ANSWER ACCORDING TO  >>> THE BROOKLYN EAGLE <<<  IS …..

>>>  STEVE  SAPERSTEIN  <<<

THE NEWCOMER TO CHALLENGE INCUMBENT DEMOCRAT COUNCILMAN CHAIM DEUTCH IN BROOKLYN’S 48TH COUNCIL DISTRICT  [WITH RUFFLES AND FLOURISHES BY THE ACCOMPLISHED HIGH STEPPING STRUTTERS, THE BROOKLYN GOP’S OWN,  THE WORLD'S ONE-AND-ONLY MARCHING CHAMBER QUARTET]

.

In a year that already has produced a bumper crop of outstanding Republican candidates in just one Southwest Brooklyn council district,  none of us should be surprised that a real fist-sized diamond in the rough has emerged in a part of Brooklyn where Republican wonders never cease  >>> Sheepshead Bay -Brighton Beach.

According to the John Alexander’s report last week in the  “Brooklyn Daily Eagle”:   “Brooklyn-born Steve Saperstein is challenging incumbent Chaim Deutch for the City Council seat of District 48. Saperstein believes he’s up for the job as he takes on Deutch, who’s held the office since 2014. District 48 includes Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach, Marine Park, Midwood and Sheepshead Bay….   Saperstein, a new face on the political scene, says he would bring fresh ideas and a change to the status quo in City Hall. He graduated from Midwood High School and received a B.A. in metropolitan studies from New York University, with a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. After receiving his law degree, he earned an M.A. in deaf and hard of hearing education from Hunter College and a second M.A. in school leadership from Touro College….   He grew up in the Sheepshead Bay and Brighton Beach communities. His grandparents were among the first residents of Coney Island’s Trump Village in the 1960s, and it’s where Saperstein and his family still reside today….”  (See  “Republican candidate Steve Saperstein runs for City Council”  by John Alexander,  3/24/17, Brooklyn Daily Eagle   [http://www.brooklyneagle.com/articles/2017/3/24/republican-candidate-steve-saperstein-runs-city-council]).

SO FAR,  STEVE SAPERSTEIN HAS APPROACHED HIS QUEST FOR PUBLIC OFFICE BY DEGREES AND A LONG TENURE OF SPECIALIZED TEACHING FOR THE NYCBOE

Mr. Saperstein is very well-credentialed for a first time candidate for any public office,  but he is particularly suited for his upcoming run for the New York City Council.

As is often the case for many seekers of public office,  Steve Saperstein has his law degree.  However, unlike most other candidates, or even officeholders,   Steve has two additional post-graduate degress.   At present,  he is a tenured member of the New York City Department of Education, where he’s  been employed for six years as specialized teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing.   His specialized teaching duties take him to ten (10) different schools throughout Manhattan, working primarily with high school and middle school students.
After graduating from law school, Steve decided to pursue a career that would allow him to have a  real impact on students with certain disabilities,  similar to those that he had experienced at home.  ---  And during Steve’s worklife,  he’s been all about the students,  because  for him, their education is key.   ---  “That’s what I do every day….   I advocate for my students to make sure they have access to the curriculum,”  said Mr. Spaerstein during his interview by the Eagle.
While he loves his job, he feels that running for office now will only compound what he has been doing and it will help him to impact many more people in a variety of  meaningful ways.

SAPERSTEIN IS A BELIEVER IN GRASS ROOTS DEMOCRACY  ---  SAYS HE’LL HAVE A STRONG VOICE TO STAND UP TO THE MAYOR FROM DAY ONE

Steve Saperstein says that he believes in grass-roots democracy and wants to make community budget decisions clear and accessible to all the people effected by them.   Saperstein has big ideas,  for example, he has a plan that calls for opting his district into citywide participatory budgeting.  ---  That would give power back to his constituents and ultimately result in better locally-based decisions and allocations of funds from the city budget.
Steve Saperstein believes that as a new candidate  ---  “My situation is unique but I know in my heart that I was born into this role from day one. When I am elected councilman, I will be a strong voice and stand up to Mayor [Bill] de Blasio. I want my newborn daughter Rebecca to grow up in a New York where she can ride the subway safely, get a good education, and have a career and family of her own. The best way to guarantee that future [is] to run for City Council.”

Saperstein will get 12%

Your math is bad. Republicans got as much as 70% of the vote in that district last fall. It's a winnable district that overlaps great territory.

Anonymous said...

How much has he raised?

Anonymous said...

$31,285.00 according to the CFB, compared to $26,516.00 for Capano in the other district.

Not bad.

Obrien will be 0 for 2 in Brooklyn once Golden and Orlando get done with him again

Anonymous said...

Republicans got 70% !!

Why not make it 99%

Anonymous said...

Orlando better talk to Dawn.

Wasn't this fine fellow the top Republican fund raiser in the first filing with the CFB?

How is it that Jerry O'Brien can come up with two good Republican candidates for the 2017 city council races in Brooklyn, when Ghorra and Golden can't even settle on one?

I guess its easy to be top Republican fundraiser when the GOP gets 70% in the district

Golden is interested in Golden. His deal is with the democrats that keep him in office.

Yes I'm talking about you Justin.

Also easy to be the top fundraiser when your consultant wins 90% of the GOP Primaries he runs.

O'Brien has been the de facto county leader since George Clark turned it over to that short guy. I think his name was Pantangeli

Anonymous said...

His name was Pantaleone and he was the best damn county leader you ever saw!

Anonymous said...

Best county chairman I ever saw was George Clark, hands down.

To 9:23 AM,
Pantaleone! Pantaleone! Are you kidding me? Pantaleone, more like pantomime when it came to being County Leader. Panteleone was the beginning of the end of the Brooklyn GOP, and helped the Conservative Party to take things over here.
During Freddie's tenure, more Republican petitions were left in Pantaleone's trunk than were ever filed at the Board of Elections, each and every time it was an 'accident.'
This guy Ghorra must be Fred Pantaleone's clone, Fred's boss was briefly a State Senator too.

Fred Pantaleone was a god among pygmies.

Anonymous said...

No, it was Fred's boss Bobby, who thought every man-jack and willing-maid anywhere around him were no more than "pygmies". I personally heard him use the word in that exact context at his old clubhouse.

Sacrilege!

The Honorable Alfred S. "FRED" Pantaleone was a giant among lilliputians. The man was a top aide to Senator Jim Buckley, and played a key role in Chris Mega reclaiming his State Senate seat.

Rumor has it Ghorra's well-coiffed toupée will endorse Capano next Thursday.

Liam's candle is all but out. He was a flash in the pan. Capano and Liam will fade away and Quaglione will take the mantle as the Republican nominee.

Mark my words at 12:43 PM

Gayle, I nearly spit out my Lagavulin 16 when I read the line "almost-but-not-quite Chief of Staff John Quaglione"

So if Russ and Gene permanently departed Brooklyn, and "Dany Boy" Esquilin never comes to political meetings, why should Capano bother leaving Staten Island?

RESPONSE: THE "THERE ARE LESS PRICEY ALTERNATIVES" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 6:49 PM"

I'm glad that you only "nearly spit out [your] Lagavulin 16..."; however, even though the Lagavulin 16 is a classic and it's in my pantry, let me point out that there are more economical ways to enjoy the smokey Islay experience --- a young Laphroaig Select, for example, it's about 2/3 the price of the Lagavulin 16, and some places maybe as low as 3/5 or maybe even a half. I wish I could say the same about Lagavulin 8, but it's not easy to find being marketed cheap enough to try out.....

They won't give Quaglione a staff. He'd only put his eye out with it.

UPDATE: THE "MEANWHILE, BOB CAPANO KEEPS PLUGGING ALONG WITH HIS FREE PRESS" EDITION

DRIP -- DRIP -- DRIP !!!

BOB CAPANO SCORES AGAIN WITH MORE "EARNED MEDIA" --- THIS TIME FOR THE ENDORSEMENT BY DANY ESQUILIN'S GROUP

A Brooklyn Eagle article reported on Capano's endorsement by Dany Esquilin and his Kings County GOP Coalition (See "Kings County GOP coalition endorses Bob Capano" by John Alexander, 3/29/17, The Brooklyn Daily Eagle [http://www.brooklyneagle.com/articles/2017/3/29/kings-county-gop-coalition-endorses-bob-capano?utm_source=Capano+List&utm_campaign=176866252c-GOPCOALITION&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e0e9684dc0-176866252c-433350349]).

Maybe, some partisans pledged to other candidates might pooh-pooh Bobby C's seemingly continuous and repetitive, all over again, and once more for good measure press releases, but they are resulting in much more than his fair share of press coverage.....

And THEY say that Quaglione is supposed to be some kind of communications specialist..... HMMMMM !!!

I always saw Quaglione as more of a Life Coach. For narcoleptics.

Anonymous said...

They say that bread is the staff of life. Is it okay for Quaglione to have some bread? That should be staff enough to survive and flourish?

Anonymous said...

We know one thing for sure, Quaglione will have 3,000+ more votes than McCabe..

Anonymous said...

8:42 doesn't understand basic math. Or Republican Primaries.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Quaglione is now moonlighting for Lyft so he can be more like Liam ?
