Playing the game, Two Degrees Of Joe Hynes, is an interesting way to track down some of the current political alignments in Southwest Brooklyn — And it even might be a useful road map for the new U.S. Attorney for Brooklyn

Sometimes people who have their own personal crusades and personal vendettas, can get tangled up in bigger things  –  Other people, while looking for something big or momentous, might miss an obvious, but very localized, link that actually ties several other things together.

Take for example the issue of a former DA’s community relations offices having been paid out slush funds coming from a sources like the DA’s secretive asset forfeiture fund. – The new U.S. Attorney in Brooklyn, Robert Capers, appears to have taken a sudden increased interest in all of that   At least two Marty Golden hands were involved in that Hynes community liaison operation

“Almost a dozen investigators from the Brooklyn US Attorney’s Office, the state Attorney General’s Office, and both the city and state comptroller’s offices asked the ex-staffers whether Hynes’ neighborhood community relations offices were being used as de facto campaign outposts in the 2013 race....”    —  NY POST, 10/19/15

The new federal prosecutor might have to look no further than this year’s special election for Assembly in the 46th AD to see the patterns of some interesting and possibly long-standing conspiracies  —  some strange things have happened already in the 46th AD and old patterns of strange bedfellows in Southwest Brooklyn might be re-emerging.

THE REPUBLICAN GAME AND GOLDEN’S GAMESMANSHIP —  INCLUDING GOING TO COURT, AGAIN

All of this is still important to those involved with, or even just interested in, the Brooklyn GOP,  because two of DA Hynes’ community liaison personnel in 2013 and before that were Brooklyn GOP State Senator Marty Golden insiders, Larry Morrish and Jack Malone; and as is well known, Golden is already being looked at on other matters by another U.S. Attorney, Preet Bharara   —   Now,  there is another possible DA community relations person to add to the list of Morrish and Malone,  Pam Harris, the Coney Island “community activist” now running as the Democratic Party candidate for the Assembly in the 46th AD.

Certainly most political activists in Southwest Brooklyn remember how hard Republican State Senator Martin Golden worked to get Brooklyn Democrat DA Charles “Joe” Hynes in 2013 elected on the Republican line – when briefly, it was thought to be a competitive inter-party general election race ?   Many Republicans well recall, that Golden’s  Hynes effort was in between Golden’s trying to get the Brooklyn Supreme Court to throw out the entire Brooklyn GOP leadership team of County Chairman Craig Eaton.

Well, it all seems to be happening again.  Except this time it’s not at all clear whom Marty Golden is trying to “HELP” get elected as “HIS” candidate in the Special Election for the Assembly in the 46th AD; however, Golden is again trying to take out the entire GOP leadership team, this time of Kings County Republican Chairman Arnaldo Ferraro.

Some wags have told me that SSMG is already working against the candidate strongly backed by Republican County Leader Arnaldo Ferraro – Lucretia Regina-Potter. Potter is the Special Election Assembly candidate selected by former Chairman Eaton; she’s also an elected  GOP State Committee person from the 46th AD and the Kings County Republican Party Secretary elected at the 2015 Convention. Also, through well-known surrogates, Senator Golden is trying to undue both Potter’s and Ferraro’s hold on their respective GOP offices in court [It should be noted that the Election case in Brooklyn Supreme Court has been adjourned until 12/4/15, well after the 2015 Special Election in November].

SOME OF GOLDEN'S CONNECTIONS TO THE DEMOCRATS ARE THROUGH THE OLD HYNES OPERATION

The current Democratic Assembly candidate, Pam Harris, is a  Coney Island “community activist” who has had a significant prior relationship with Joe Hynes, who until 2013 was the long-time DA for Brooklyn. Harris is now running as the Democratic candidate for the Assembly in the 46th A.D.

One of my best Baker Street Irregulars, who has maintained many detailed records on former DA Hynes, many actually gathered inside the DA’s office, reports that Pam Harris received non-campaign funds to help conduct a very large event with the former Brooklyn DA in 2012.

DORMANT BROOKLYN DA CASE BEING LOOKED INTO BY NEW U.S. ATTORNEY

According to a report in the New York Post, one of former DA Hynes’ top lieutenants, Dino Ameroso, is running as the Democratic candidate for the position of Town Clerk of Hempstead, on Long Island ( See “Ex-deputy in Brooklyn DA’s ethics scandal running for office” by Carl Campanile, 10/12/15, NY Post [http://nypost.com/2015/10/12/ex-deputy-in-brooklyn-das-ethics-scandal-running-for-office/]). That article mentioned that several investigations of the Brooklyn DA’s Office connection to campaigning in the 2013 DA’s race apparently still did not have all their loose ends tied up.

In that regard, inside sources have indicated to me that the current Brooklyn DA, Mr. Kenneth Thompson, was not satisfied with the progress of the investigations by NYS AG Eric Schneiderman and/or by the former Brooklyn U.S. Attorney, who had been promoted to the post of U.S. Attorney General. As a result, there has been some recent movement on the case by the newly-appointed U.S. Attorney for Brooklyn and the rest of Long Island, Robert Capers.

Probably a manifestation of that new interest is reflected in a more recent NY Post feature.  According to that article in the Post  — “Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn interviewed two more people under subpoena last week, in addition to questioning multiple DA staffers and campaign workers in the past month, according to sources....”  (See “Witnesses subpoenaed in Charles Hynes’ shady-spending case” by Josh Saul, 10/19/15, NY Post [http://nypost.com/2015/10/19/witnesses-subpoenaed-in-charles-hynes-shady-spending-case/]).

An important part of Josh Saul’s report reads as follows:  “....  ‘The bottom line is, did anyone who worked on the campaign get paid with city funds or state funds or forfeiture funds? That’s really the issue,’ a source familiar with the probe said....   Investigators are also looking at whether the community relations workers were on the DA’s Office payroll or whether they were consultants paid from another source....  ‘Look, right before an election, maybe the staffers would advocate for the DA,’ a source close to Hynes’ old office said. ‘It wouldn’t surprise me if they said, “Make sure you vote for DA Hynes in the next election.”?’...    Probers asked whether the workers organized political events, sought endorsements or handed out fliers on behalf of the Hynes campaign, sources said....”

CLOSE FRIEND AND MARTY GOLDEN INSIDER QUESTIONED BY INVESTIGATORS

Here’s where it gets interesting. A key man, who engineered the 2013 campaign for DA Hynes on the Republican and Conservative Party lines, is a very close and long-time Marty Golden associate, Dennis Quirk. He functions at a much higher political level than any mere community relations operative. Any large scale P.R./campaign event would be known to him and in many instances involve his direct involvement.

Given the fact that Ms. Harris has herself stepped up into the arena of elective politics, there should be some close scrutiny of her community based events, especially the soap box derby events, one of which is specifically discussed below. Of course any other items showing ongoing relations between Ms. Harris and either Mr. Hynes or Mr. Golden would be of similar or possibly even greater interest.

IN 2012 PAM HARRIS CONDUCTED A VERY LARGE EVENT ON BEHALF OF HER OWN GROUP CALLED “CONEY ISLAND GENERATION GAP (CIGG),”  —   THE PRODUCTION VALUES OF THAT EVENT INDICATED SIGNIFICANT EXPENSE BY THE OVERALL SPONSOR AND EVEN THE RACING TEAM SPONSORS  —   DA HYNES’ NAME WAS VERY PROMINENT AT THE 2012 EVENT AND HE WOULD APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN A MAJOR SPONSOR ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER DEMOCRATIC OFFICE HOLDERS

Here’s Hynes’ own write-up for the event: “DA Charles J. Hynes sponsored a soap box derby team for the 4th Annual Coney Island Generation Gap (CIGG) Soap Box Derby Race. Team Charles J. Hynes consisted of kids ages 7-10, who are members of CIGG, non-profit after-school organization based out of Coney Island, run by Executive Director Pamela Harris. They competed in a race against 23 other teams whose sponsors included the NYPD, FDNY, non-profit groups, and other elected officials. All kids received a prize for participating: the sponsored funds went to pay for school supplies and back-packs for each team participant, as well as a team t-shirt. Team Charles J. Hynes received 3rd place for their soap box car design....”
(See “Charles J. Hynes Soap Box Derby Team” by Joe Hynes, 9/12/12, You Tube [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZvLv6iXIU4]).

As has been demonstrated on this blog in several past feature articles, there is a strong nexus between the old DA Hynes community relations operation and operators and insiders still closely associated with Republican State Senator Golden.  The swirl surrounding the Potter-Harris Special Election for the 46th AD seat seams to be stirring up old feelings and old associations; with Golden in 2015 seeming to be following his 2013 play book.

The question is how much money did Pam Harris get from asset forfeiture and when did she get it?

This explains why Marty has Reginas lawyers tied up in court a week before the election. Marty and harris are poverty pimps. They never could have out fought Arnaldo

Gail, this is your weakest tea yet about Marty Golden. There is almost nothing in this post about him. How long are you going to keep talking about Morrish & Malone, and that they were community relations reps for Hynes? And Dennis Quirk knows lots of important people, not just Hynes and Golden.

So Marty supported Hynes in 2013, that's not proof of anything happening in 2015. Harris did something with Hynes in 2012, that's not proof of anything in 2015, either.

Anonymous said...

Comment above is missing the point of whats about the tidal wave coming to Brooklyn.
Every pol that supported Hynes did it for the money. That money was from asset forfeiture as confirmed by Larry "smallfish" Morrish and others.
Pam Harris ran a Hynes event in Coney Island with tee shirts printed for Hynes. If that money came from seized assets Harris will have a short lived term in office.
The new Federal Prosecutor Capers that hauled in Dennis "the fat man" Quirk last week is about to lower the boom.

Has Regina caught on to this yet or is she waiting till after the election?

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "ONCE AND FUTURE BSIs WAKE UP" EDITION

A CALL FROM HERE AND A CALL FROM THERE, SOON A STORY COMES TO TOGETHER

MR. AND MRS. MORRISH WORKED FOR REPUBLICAN MARTY GOLDEN AND NOW THEY'RE EVERYWHERE WITH PAM HARRIS

It seems that there might be more connections between Golden, Hynes and Pamela Harris than previously reported in my post above. At least one of the links between them is much stronger than previously thought.

Larry & Phillipa Morrish have been very active in the campaign of the Democratic candidate for the Assembly in the 46th AD, Pamela Harris. At very least, the Morrishes have been ubiquitous members of Ms. Harris' entourage at various venues around the Bay Ridge-Dyker-Coney Island Assembly District.

There appears to be a little more to it than that. As you may recall, Phillipa Morrish is the woman who was scheduled to run the cancelled women's etiquette class at Marty Golden's Bay Ridge Manor on July 24th, 2012. That program had been sponsored by State Senator Golden; and it was intended to teach women "Posture, Deportment and the Feminine Presence," according to an "Official mailer" that had been sent around Golden's State Senate District. According to material available at the time, Phillipa Morrish of Etiquette Training International was to teach the class.

It's very interesting that Pamela Harris' own cottage business, the "Not-for-Profit" operation known as "Coney Island Generation Gap," included among its diverse programs "taught by professionals" something teaching business etiquette.... That's a very interesting overlap. Or might that be "coincidence."

Has it occurred to Potter to ask her opponent about the September 12 2012 Hynes event?

The video shows Harris with uniforms paid for by Hynes. It didnt come out of his paycheck.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Massey,

You mentioned Larry Morrish and his wife as being a part of Pamela Harris' Bay Ridge entourage who also had connections to Senator Marty Golden. I have another one for you, Frankie Marra, the Irish band guy. He's at a lot of Golden's events and Golden sees that Marra and his band get paying gigs, but he's also been to at least one debate with the Pam Harris folks, and he heckled the GOP assembly candidate Regina Potter.

Pam Harris will get over 75%

So Marty Golden's working to elect a Democrat, wouldn't be the first time nor the last time.

RESPONSE: THE "VOTE FROM THE CONEY ISLAND PROJECTS" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:30 AM" -- OR -- "WHAT'S REALLY GOIN' DOWN IN THE 'SPECIAL ELECTION' TO FILL THE ASSEMBLY SEAT IN THE 46th AD....."

PAM HARRIS WON'T GET 75% OF THE VOTE IN THE WHOLE OF THE 46th AD: BUT SHE WILL GET OVER 75% OF THE CONEY ISLAND PROJECTS VOTE --- AND IN A NORMAL ELECTION, THAT WOULDN'T BE ENOUGH --- BUT IN A "SPECIAL" --- WHO KNOWS ? ? ?

CERTAIN DEMOCRATS ARE UP TO A LONG-TERM, HARD-NOSED, GAME-CHANGING PLAN --- IT INVOLVES DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGES --- AND IT INVOLVES MAYOR DEBLASIO, BROOKLYN BP ERIC ADAMS AND ASSORTED ACTIVISTS LIKE PAM HARRIS

Pamela Harris was hand-picked by the new Democratic Party power brokers in NY City and their allies in Brooklyn --- you know, the same people that pulled the rug from under the rather middle-of-the-road Democrat Kate Cucco, who was Brook-Krasny's Chief of Staff, who looked like a lock to be the Democratic candidate, but who was denied in a backroom deal --- It's also some of the same people that are letting the left-wing Working Families Party tail "Wag the Dog" of the Democratic Party.

On paper, Pamela Harris is not the right candidate for the whole of the 46th AD..... She is a "Community Organizer -- type" social activist, whose personal base of support is in the projects of Coney Island, where she runs a "Not-For-Profit" organization called "Coney Island Generation Gap (CIGG)" --- just look up its web page and/or Google search the organization, and you'll see what it and Pam Harris are all about.

So what's going on, what are the Democrats up to ? It's all about pushing the demographic shift in Southwest Brooklyn in favor of certain kinds of Democrats; and it's not the ones moving out, or even most of the ones moving in.

In other words, it's not about Irish,Italian and past-generation Jewish voters in the 46th AD, whose numbers are dropping daily; nor is it about the newer main-stream Asian and Russian voters; but it is about the growing numbers of Muslim voters in Bay Ridge married together with a low-income core-vote from the Coney Island projects and other scattered spots around the 46th AD.

Mayor DeBlasio let the cat out of the bag on the bigger plan when he said that planners intended to change zoning to put more low-income, high-rises in various spots around the city -- intrinsic to that plan was to use parking lots on existing "low and moderate income" housing sites. One such site mentioned is located on Colonial Road, between 90th and 92nd Street, it's now the parking lot for 9000 Shore Road -- the twin "Shore Hill" senior housing towers.

Get the picture..... Forget about the long-time Bay Ridge special zoning to keep housing density low in this corner of Brooklyn --- all the "do gooders" have made up their minds, that's over or soon will be.....

So even if Pamela Harris isn't getting any 75% in this next election --- some people are planning for that to be "COMING SOMETIME SOON TO A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR YOU"

Every politician on this blog, Golden, Harris, Hynes makes Boss Tweed seem like a statesman.

This is amazing. It is a classic pincer maneuver with Harris pinching in from Coney Island with Linda Sarsour from the Sunset Park end of Bay Ridge ready to run for the City Council when Gentile has to give up his City Council position because of term limits. Unbelievable, but still possible in the districts including Bay Ridge and the Dyker Heights.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone ever asked Marty if he got any money from Hynes?

UPDATE AND RESPONSE: THE "WHEN I SEE LINDA SARSOUR'S NAME MENTIONED TWICE IN A DAY -- I NEED TO TAKE A FEW BENEDRYL QUICKLY" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 9:02 PM" AND "GOOD OLD" CHUCK OTEY

I'M SURE THAT LINDA SARSOUR IS A NICE ENOUGH GIRL, IN A HUMA ABEDIN SORT OF WAY, BUT.... I'M ALSO SURE THERE'S MORE THAN A "CARLOS DANGER" OR A "LASZLO ALMASY" HIDDEN IN SARSOUR'S WOOD PILE TOO

AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO BELIEVE ME --- YOU CAN ASK "BIFF" YOURSELF ! ! !

Every now and then that old wag, Chuck Otey, stumbles onto something. --- What is it that they say about a blind squirrel and his nuts?

Last evening, a Chuck Otey item that appeared in the Brooklyn Eagle caught my eye (See "Chuck Otey's Pro Bono Barrister for Oct. 26 -- Will Arab-American Activist Seek Council Seat in Southwest Brooklyn?" by Chuck Otey, 10/26/15, The Brooklyn Eagle [http://www.brooklyneagle.com/articles/2015/10/26/chuck-oteys-pro-bono-barrister-oct-26]); and it prompted me to do some long overdue E-mailing to an old friend, whom I will refer to as "Biff" in this comment.

It seems that Chuck Otey was quite moved by somethings that Bay Ridge Republican stalwart Bob Capano had said, and Otey wrote about it in that section of his 10/26 "Pro Bono..." piece entitled,"Will Arab-American Activist Seek Council Seat in Southwest Brooklyn?" You see Mr. Capano had said, posted and/or written recently about the very vivacious, and perhaps problematically political Islamist-American activist, Linda Sarsour, and her Bay Ridge Democrat "friends" and supporters. The Capano statement was not only a political critique --- it was in some respects a warning.

My BSI above "...at 9:02 PM" mentioned something about some Democrats' recent pincer movement around and into the Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights bailiwick(s). The Otey column reminded me that a large part of that new Democrat "pincer maneuver" is being funded by the NYC Council, and in particular by Councilmen Vinny Gentile and Mark Treyger. I've been informed that Gentile and Treyger have secured six figure grants for organizations run by Linda Sarsour and Pamela Harris, respectively.

Here's the inside scoop --- "Biff," who is very, very close to Bob Capano CONFIRMED to me that there is MORE than meets the eye in what Mr. Capano had to say about Linda Sarsour --- AND --- that there is MORE than meets the eye in what Chuck Otey had to say about what Bob Capano said about Linda Sarsour. Now, did you get all that?

That's enough for now, all these Benedryls have made me sleepy.....

Anonymous said...

Justin Brannan is Gentile & Co choice for City Council. Yes Linda wants to run but only slightly less than Kevin Peter Carroll. Dems like Pam Harris a lot but even Treygor, Colton, and even Delia would not have picked her if anybody besides Regina-Potter were running.

Lucretia needs to stop making excuses and blaming Marty Golden. This is the best shot a Republican will ever have of taking the seat. Going to be close time for her to start spending some money go out and campaign instead of playing the blame game already.

Children you see the real problem is that Golden and Kassar believe that they actually OWN the Brooklyn GOP and the GOP in its entirety. What they refuse to accept is that they don't. I heard recently that the great Commissioner or should I say spineless puppet Commissioner, told one of your BSR's that "the Senator put Craig into the Chairmanship's spot, and when the Senator decides he needs to go, then he needs to go". Wow...did Shamoom drink the Golden-ade or what? Is this what Golden really thinks? Is this what Shamoon really thinks? If so, this is truly sad.

Well, Eaton did better than that - he left on his own terms at this own time and put in his own replacement....chew on that Golden and Shamoon when in 2016 Trump says "you're fired" to the puppet Commish.

The asset forfeiture scandal is spreading like Dennis Quirks waistline. Quirk was Hynes treasurer which means campaign disclosures were false if the DA's stash was not reported.

Assemblyman Steve Cymbrowitz was getting those checks. Brooklyn may be having a big turnover

Anonymous said...

This is the best chance from the outset that we have to win an all Brooklyn Assembly seat. Enough with the bickering almost no one north of Coney Island wants Pam Harris to win. Lucretia needs to get out there make her case to the voters and stop whining about Marty Golden and Jerry Kassar.

Any GOP candidate other than Lucretia would've won this special. She is set to throw it away, the crowning achievement of her twelve years in Brooklyn Republican activism.

Anonymous said...

Gale, you and all your followers need some reality therapy and it will come next Tuesday. There is no real Republican Party in the 46th Assembly District and Brooklyn as a whole. The proof is that the Republican Party gave the nomination to run for the Assembly in the 46th AD Special Election to Lucretia Potter, the Female Republican District Leader in the 46th AD. As a candidate, Potter is worse than a pair of broken old shoes, she even lost her last two Republican primary runs for the NY Assembly, one in the 49th AD and one in the 46th AD.

Pamela Harris says Potter has been running for the assembly for twenty years, and that's pretty much true. The Republicans needed a candidate who wasn't a loser for a whole generation, and Lucretia Potter is not that candidate. Pam Harris should call what the Republicans did the most important "Generation Gap" in this race for the 46th AD, not anything about her Non-profit program, "Coney Island Generation Gap."

Anonymous said...

At least Lucretia stepped up. Nobody else wanted to run except Marcus Nussbaum and he couldn't tie his shoelaces without Lucretia's help. Couldn't even run for district leader again.

Anonymous said...

Lucretia, has far more name recognition then any other candidate who could have run on the GOP line, no other GOP candidate was interested or has the name recognition that Potter has. Any other candidate who would have ran in the special would have as some pointed out here would get about 25% in the entire district. When Lucretia wins next Tuesday I will be looking forward to the retail therapy taking place in certain places.

Anonymous said...

Lucretia has name recognition but after having run so many times in the last decade who knows if that is worth anything.

Anonymous said...

We will find out Tuesday.

Anonymous said...

Nussbaum wouldve been much worse than Regina-Potter but this Harris lady cant put two sentences together. I think Potter wins easily next week.

Anonymous said...

Just because someone doesn't like or doesn't think Marcus would have been a good candidate doesn't mean we had to nominate Lucretia. Marcus deserved a chance this must be at least the tenth time she is running and has been a disaster.

Anonymous said...

Lucretia nominated herself people, get with the program. DL's control Assembly nod in their own district during special elections, so it's not that no one else wanted to run, it's that Republicans didn't have a choice!

Anonymous said...

JM aka GM, there are completely different and contradictory comments appearing here about many different topics. What kind of blog moderator are you?

You can't be in agreement with all of them, so why don't you censor them like you admit you have done with certain commenters, who are obvious Democratic Party supporters?

Anonymous said...

Craig Eaton and his committee interviewed candidates for the position and besides Marcus and Lucretia only one other person interviewed and he was a 21 year old who just moved here. No Republican besides Lucretia wants to run. Pam Harris is safe for the next 20 years. Every two years Lucretia will run and blame her defeat on the imaginary "machine" working against her.

Anonymous said...

No other Republican was interested in running and any Republican who would have been interested lacks the name recognition Lucretia has and any other Republican would have received maybe 25% of the vote. I would also add the conservative party endorsed Lucretia, the conservative party has put up it's own candidate in the 46th AD on two occasions in the past, the conservative party also did not have anyone interested either in running or that was actually a conservative interested in running.

Lucretia would have been on the ballot regardless anyway since she was the only candidate in this race and in the entire city of New York to petition her way onto the ballot. Lucretia would have been on the ballot regardless, and if another Republican-Conservative was selected, Lucretia and that candidate would have split the vote, Pam Harris would have probably got 90% of the vote next Tuesday, and Pam Harris would be safe for the next 20 years if not more.

Anonymous said...

Lucretia is bragging about name recognition after running and losing by large margins time after time after time after time. She is good at petitioning as it is her favorite and probably only hobby.

UPDATE & [SORT OF] OVERALL RESPONSE: THE "REAL LUCRETIA CAMPAIGN" EDITION

NYS GOP SENDS A COMPARISON PIECE THAT IS TOPICAL AND WELL-DONE

"LET'S HOPE IT'S NOT TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE...."

My BSIs have told me that Lucretia Regina-Potter's campaign has sent out two targeted mailings -- this conforms with what another BSI has actually received at his/her home.

The most recent glossy mailed item is a mostly-traditional comparison postcard that clearly and distinctly puts the Harris-Potter positions and records side by side.

The simple one-piece mailer also effectively weaves in a "Back to the Future" theme. Focusing on crime and law & order, this mailer makes a parallel comparison between Mayor deBlasio's administration and some past "bad times" with the "good times" of Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg.

One GOP wag told me that this kind of material should have been part of a consistent campaign theme that should have begun as soon as Lucretia Potter was selected -- and certainly not later than mid-summer.

This wag also quoted another Brooklyn GOP activist, a top hand, whose name I must not mention at this time -- who reportedly said the following: "This [mailer] is very little, very late -- let's hope it's not too little, too late...." (I will directly be quoting this as-yet-unnamed source on several matters about his experiences and views about the GOP's summer activities, the GOP primary and County Convention, and the general election campaign for 2015. This post will appear shortly after Election Day, next Tuesday).

Anonymous said...

Name recognition is exactly what you need in a special election such as this one. Voters are familiar and supportive of Lucretia and her accomplishments as district leader and in her community. Each year Lucretia qualifies herself to get on the ballot an impressive achievement considering most of the district leaders and candidates did not get the minimum number of signatures needed to qualify in the past two years. If only most of the candidates who have ran had the same work ethic as Lucretia, we probably would have won a few races by now. The arm chair quarterbacking of Lucretia validates the fact she is running a strong campaign, and stands a great chance at winning this Tuesday, and I am very much looking forward to the retail therapy that will happen on Wednesday. Should be a fun next few days.

Anonymous said...

Lucretia hasn't spent a dime on mailings. Everything is being produced and paid for by State Committee. She is already complaining about how Marty Golden will be the reason she loses the election. Maybe if she actually spends some money she can win.

Anonymous said...

Lucretia keeps talking about name recognition as if it is the be all end all of politics. People are getting tired of her. The last time Lucretia won a Republican primary, George Bush was in the White House and she had no opponent. In 2006 and 2008 she lost to Abbate by almost 50 points in each election. In 2010 she lost to 20 year old Peter Cipriano by 20 points! In 2012 she lost another primary to Tom McCarthy by 40 points and in 2014 she lost to Stephen Lilistakis by another 20 points. She caused credible Republican opponents to have to spend s and money on a primary instead of helping them out. I guarantee you she is already planning her 2016 Primary race for Assembly and her 2017 Primary For City Council. Although to be fair she hasn't really started thinking about 2018 yet.

Anonymous said...

Didn't Lucretia beat Clorinda by about 50 points in 2013? In 2014 she didn't spend a dime or campaign and lost by a few votes. Lucretia was better off not having Golden's support, every candidate he and his people support lose and lose big, I can't think of one election where his endorsement or support mattered, and also wasn't it team Golden who fleeced Stephen Lilistakis out of like $70,000 last year which not a cent of it went on obtaining votes?

Anonymous said...

The truth is if Lucretia should lose, she would be the best candidate for Assembly next year or for Gentile's open City Council seat in 2017..there is no one else with her name ID

Anonymous said...

Lucretia best Clorinda by a hundred votes for District Leader! Gimme a break. She lost to Lilakis by 20 points she got routed. It's interesting that she actually did not spend a dime against Steve. Why? Why run if you're not serious about winning. It was so she could help the Democrats.

Anonymous said...

Lucretia's name ID is the only reason this is a race, no other candidate would have got more then 25%, and when Lucretia wins on Tuesday it's going to be a interesting 2016!

Anonymous said...

The only reason Potter has a chance is not because of name id but because the Democrats nominated Pam Harris who can barely put two sentences together. Kernit the Frog would have gotten more votes than Lucretia.

Anonymous said...

If Kermit the Frog would have gotten more votes than Lucretia, why didn't the conservative party nominate Kermit the Frog to run?

Anonymous said...

Somebody needs a reality check.

Does anybody here on this blog really believe that somebody named "Lucretia Regina-Potter" has any name recognition worth talking about in the 46th AD or anyplace else? The correct and simple answer should be NO. It takes much more than a couple of mailings and A LITTLE pounding pavement to a hand full of Republican addresses every couple of years to get name recognition.

Anybody with an opposite opinion has no proof for it, at all. First, nobody has done any real scientific polling about Lucretia's "name" recognition. Second, the proof that she has none, or that it is a negative, is that she has lost three straight Republican assembly primaries (I'm sorry that yesterday I said two, that was a mistake, it's three). As somebody said above, Potter lost to Peter Cipriani in 2010, Thomas McCarthy in 2012 and Stamatis Lilikakis in 2014. Third, all her campaigns against a Democrat opponent have been less than "Also Ran" races.

An empty can of "Tuttorosso Whole Tomatoes" has more name recognition than Lucretia Regina-Potter. And, as far as most Republicans in the 46th AD are concerned, Lucretia is really known as "Lou Creature" or "an old tomato can" (and there's something else everybody must remember).

Anonymous said...

Lucretia's never run a professional campaign (until the mailings she sent out this week) in all her races for local office. Her base, and her worldview, is that of about 180 aging (and mostly Italian) election inspectors and their families. Outside of that universe, no one knows her. Why would they? Though she's run many times, they've all been amateur operations with no impact.

Anonymous said...

John Quaglione could have won this race easily.

John Quaglione, Marcus Nussbaum, or the Cookie Monster would have beaten Pam Harris.

John Quaglione would have run another lackluster race and lost. Marcus is a big question mark. He had the biography. Would he have worked hard? Would he have hired professionals, or would he have hired Marty's people?

Marcus Nussbaum has a great bio tailor made for politics...but nothing else. No resolve no convictions. Lucretia hand delivers him the district leadership win in 2013 and after he won nobody heard from him again except when the Assembly vacancy came up. He didn't even try running for reelection to leadership without Lucretia's support. Marcus can't tie his shoelaces without Lucretia's help.

Quaglione is a big, dull, block of wood. Voters treated him as such when he ran for City Council.

UPDATE: THE "OMG !!! THIS THREAD IS GETTING SO, SO LONG --- BUT SOME THINGS DO NEED SAYING" EDITION

SORRY TO INTERRUPT ALL THE FUN AND GAMES ABOUT LUCRETIA, BUT THERE WERE SOME OTHER THINGS MENTIONED HEREINABOVE ON THIS THREAD

IT TURNS OUT THAT MY OTEY-CAPANO COMMENT ABOVE WAS NOT THE ONLY NOTICE OF BOB CAPANO'S SLAM AT LINDA SARSOUR AND THE FUNDING FOR THE ARAB AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK -- KAYLA SANTOSSOUSSO, THAT GROUP'S "DEPUTY DIRECTOR," PENNED A PUSHBACK PIECE THAT APPEARED ON THE BLOG, HEY RIDGE

A blog called "Hey Ridge" carried a rather lengthy screed by somebody named "Kayla," who took exception to what Bob Capano and/or Chuck Otey had to say, along with some pointedly dirty looks, or would that be dirty looking barbs, for/at Andrea Peyser, Rich Calder and the NY Post (See "You Want to Defund the Arab American Association? Really?" by Kayla, 10/28/15, Hey Ridge
[http://www.heyridge.com/2015/10/you-want-to-defund-the-arab-american-assocation-really/]).

Since Kayla professes to be the "Deputy Director" of the Arab American Association of New York, it's a lock bet that I'm talking about an article by Kayla Santosuosso, that apparently would be the official or semi-official response of the Arab American Association of New York.

The long of it [and there really is no short of it] is that Kayla Santosousso has her panties in a twist over various people's charges about Linda Sarsour and the AAANY, and even more so, any suggestions that AAANY be defunded in any way. Along the way, she mentions some physical threats against AAANY folks and incidents of vandalism, specifically mentioning something that was done to the front door of the site where AAANY does its business in Bay Ridge.

Since this is a partisan Republican blog, I found Ms. Santosuosso's near-lead comment, "... since this story has now officially led to a death threat and wannabe councilmen claiming it as grounds for their own advancement, I feel it’s time for some real talk...." quite intriguing. Unfortunately, there were no follow-up details for that particular provocative statement. However, the phrase "wannabe councilmen" [sic] did contain a hyperlink to an article by Bob Capano that appeared as an Op-Ed on the "JP*UPDATES" blog [http://jpupdates.com/2015/10/19/op-ed-councilman-gentile-it-is-time-to-condemn-linda-sarsour-and-violence-against-israelis/]; so "Kayla," first and foremost is clearly responding to Mr. Capano's recent shot across the AAANY bow.

Perhaps, the most interesting part of the Deputy Director's piece is its ultimate pararaph, ".... So I’m extending an invitation to everyone from Ms. Peyser to my neighbors. Want to voice your opinions about AAANY to AAANY? Reach out to me directly—I’ll start taking office hours. And if, even better, you’d like to throw five bucks at us so we can fix our door, it’d be much appreciated."

Take a look see what you think; and let's see where this all goes.

Lucretia has no name-ID worth bragging about...period. She hasn't been in a general election since in 7 years, and she got 27.5% at that time. Come on people. I hope she wins on Tuesday, but nobody can honestly claim she brings name-ID or a wealth of support to this special. And if you do, then you're just in the tank for her.

If it really is a community based group with neighborhood support than the AAAAAAANY does not need government funding. Are they providing emergency meals like the Red Cross or is the money going for Linda Sarsours car service?

Lucretia & Quaglione are posted above as future candidates. Do you people work at losing?

UPDATE: THE "KEEPING SCORE" EDITION

LEAD FROM A VERY UNUSUAL SOURCE CAUSED ME TO UNCOVER MORE PROOF THAT MARTY GOLDEN'S CREW IS ACTIVELY TRYING TO UNDERMINE LUCRETIA REGINA-POTTER

FRANKIE MARRA, A CHARACTER WITH BUSINESS & OTHER CONNECTIONS TO MARTY GOLDEN, CONTINUED HIS PATTERN OF HARASSMENT OF LUCRETIA REGINA-POTTER

According to Will Bredderman's report about a recent Bay Ridge debate, which appeared in his column in "The Observer"; this happened Tuesday night: ".... Republican Lucretia Regina-Potter—running against Democrat Pam Harris to represent the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge, Coney Island, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach and Seagate—clashed repeatedly at the Bay Ridge Community Council Debate with local activist Frankie Marra over [the] reproductive health chain Planned Parenthood...." (See "Brooklyn Assembly Debate Devolves Into Shouting Match Over Planned Parenthood Videos" by Will Bredderman, 10/28/15, The Observer [http://observer.com/2015/10/brooklyn-assembly-debate-devolves-into-shouting-match-over-planned-parenthood-videos/]).

What makes this confrontation even more interesting, is that Frankie Marra, a local performer, has been "hooked-up" by Marty Golden for quite some time. In fact, one of the comment makers above, "Anonymous said... October 26, 2015 at 1:04 AM," had earlier mentioned that "... Frankie Marra, the Irish band guy... heckled the GOP assembly candidate Regina Potter" during at least one of her debates with the Pam Harris. In addition, the well-known Bay Ridge Irish musician has had prior contacts and relations with Republican State Senator Martin Golden. Now, at least two times in less than two weeks, Marra has showed up with Pamela Harris and given Harris' opponent, Lucretia Potter a hard time at a debate.

This second incident was brought to my attention by someone with clear and unambiguous Democratic Party affiliations, whose recent history with this blog has been very contentious. Nonetheless, that person has long provided this blog with solid information about Senator Golden; and in particular key inside information about Golden's multiple tie-ins with former DA Hynes.

Frankie Marra may own abortion clinics that is why he gets hysterical every time abortion restrictions are brought up.

Marra Loves to suck on those bagpipes while wearing his plaid skirt

Harris is a scam artist and Lucretia is a moron.

Its great to have choices

Will someone please buy Teddy Ghorra a tie?

Lucretia got all flustered at the debate over The Planned Parenthood videos that showed a miscarried fetus and not an aborted fetus. She blurted out that Miscarriage is a Natural Abortion. The audience was shocked and let her know it.
