Confirming what we at “Galewyn Massey... Fountainhead” have been saying for some time now, State Senator Marty Golden formally announces his support for Staten Island DA Dan Donovan for Congress
From another end of the spectrum of humanity now visible in Bay Ridge, as well as the extreme end of the political spectrum, Radical Palestinian Linda Sarsour continues to hammer Donovan with brickbats
All in all, Donovan might well benefit more from knocks by the likes of Sharpton and Sarsour than from boosts by State Senator Martin Golden
WHAT GOLDEN SAYS ABOUT DONOVAN
NICOLE’S RESPONSE TO THE NEWS ABOUT GOLDEN’S ENDORSEMENT OF DONOVAN: OUR RELATIONSHIP WILL STAY INTACT, BUT [BY IMPLICATION] I COMPLETELY “DISAGREE” WITH WHAT GOLDEN HAS DONE HERE
BREDDERMAN MENTIONS THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM — GOLDEN WAS A STRONG SUPPORTER OF THE CORRUPT, CONVICTED AND DISGRACED GRIMM
What Bredderman didn’t mention was that Golden is himself under the gun in a Federal corruption probe that is aimed at his questionable campaign finances; and that’s exactly the kind of probe where the Grimm problems started.
NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM A LEFTIST BAY RIDGE RADICAL OPERATING IN PLAIN SIGHT NEXT TO THE LOEW’S ALPINE — LINDA SARSOUR
Sarsour is a walking-talking Improvised Explosive Device; and she has been a target of this blog for some time now. Recently, I did a lengthy comment about some of what Linda Sarsour has been doing and saying as part of her local and national anti-police activities (See my 1/4/15 comment “BACKFILL: THE “ ‘#BLACKLIVESMATTER’ – ‘@NYCJUSTICELEAGUE’ - BAY RIDGE – LINDA SARSOUR” EDITION” to my Friday, January 2, 2015 post, “Back in November 2014, Farrakhan made a call to/for Black college students to support life-for-life retaliation for Black deaths at the hands of the police” below on this blog).
I recently got this feed from a Democrat, who has been active in Bay Ridge politics: “Linda Sarsour calls Donovan a slap in the face, yadda yadda.... She is dangerous, more so than people realize and I am a liberal. *** ... I follow her postings. She is seemingly innocent but has a relationship with some very fringe people who do advocate violence. Oddly, she also has a huge Bay Ridge Democrat following. I don't get that part. Maybe because she is pretty. But there are folks in Brooklyn who hang onto her every word. She met with the Mayor on the protests and has been heavily involved in the planning. I do not think she could actually influence the Congressional seat but for some reason she does have a huge following.”

Gale, I know your readers are weary of the Hynes' commentary but since the Brooklyn GOP has almost become part of the fabric of Hynes corruption I can't resist: On Donovan - While Hynes was Brooklyn DA he contributed to Donovan's 2010 AG campaign fund. He did so under his official DA title. This is an ethics violation. Since Donovan was a DA at the time, I wonder if he rejected the funds from Hynes. I think he would have the same obligation to do so. Hynes had always stated that it was not to curry favor with Donovan but interestingly Staten Island received a number of special prosecutor requests from Hynes. If the Brooklyn DA's office did not want a case to be vigorously prosecuted, they would and could ensure the defendant receive an excellent defense attorney. There were a few go-to attorneys for this. Meanwhile, the mediocre proecutors handling the case would not have the comparable skills as the defense counsel had. Hynes was also very interested in seeing that either Donovan or rice get the AG win in 2010. (for obvious reasons). All of this might be neither here nor there but since the Dems will be turning over every rock to find Dirt on Donovan this might be a good place to start . . . looking.
QUESTION: THE “REALLY SMALL QUESTION” EDITION
TO: “ANONYMOUS... 1:07 PM,” ABOVE
Why did you use an ellipsis between “start” and “looking” as in “... a good place to start... looking.” ?
FYI, it is between your last words... in your last phrase... in your last clause... in your last line... in your last sentence... in your Thomasmannishly long only paragraph.... (I wish Victor Borge were still alive, so he could read this comment to you; probably, you would need a towel by now).
If, as I suspect, you have no good reason, *@&^&#^&%>< ! Please, stop f—ing around. I don’t think you understand the seriousness of what we are trying to do here.
OTHER QUESTIONS: THE “LONGER, MORE COMPLEX QUESTIONS” EDITION
WHO IS BEHIND THE STOP D.A. DAN DONOVAN MOVEMENT ?
IS NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE SERIOUS ABOUT ITS OPPOSITION TO DAN DONOVAN ?
I WOULD SUGGEST THAT THERE IS AN APPEARANCE OF CORRUPTION AT NRO -- AND THAT CORRUPTION EMANATES FROM THE NYS CONSERVATIVE PARTY !
Can the so-called Federalist-associated author, David Marcus, be serious with his opposition to Dan Donovan’s being selected as the GOP candidate in the 11th C.D. ( See “Michael Grimm’s Replacement – Here are five reasons Daniel Donovan shouldn’t be it”
by David Marcus, 1/5/14, National Review/ NRO [http://www.nationalreview.com/article/395688/michael-grimms-replacement-david-marcus]). I, for one, doubt that “he” is serious at all. How can anybody remotely informed about this district even mention Anthony Weiner in any discussion of Dan Donovan about anything ? The real reason for this “David Marcus”article is the infection of Conservative Party corruption into the inner workings of the National Review, or at least its online operation.
To prove this proposition, the following several questions need to be answered:
Is Christine Sisto still working for/at National Review in any capacity ?
Is Liam McCabe still a Conservative Party operative in the 11th C.D.; and did he hold onto a position on the staff of disgraced former Congressman Michael Grimm through various controversies ?
Are Christine Sisto and Liam McCabe still boyfriend and girlfriend ?
Is there any attempt by anybody at National Review to maintain any kind of “Chinese Wall” between Christine Sisto and any coverage or commentary about the 11th C.D. ?
Where does Nicole Malliotakis get the idea that four county leaders (two Republican and two Conservative) would have a say in selecting the Republican Party candidate for Congress in any special election for the 11th C.D. ?
And then there is the most important question of all. Has Dan Donovan made his deal with Conservative Chairman Mike Long ?
Maybe, it’s a single straightforward question after all; and not the longer more complex questions that I listed above.
Here's another simple question. What do you think ?

SOME DIDN’T QUITE KNOW EVERYTHING THAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT IN MY COMMENT ABOVE, "... AT 2:57 PM"
A few days ago, Capital New York quoted a comment by “Republican” Assembly Member Nicole Malliotakis, as follows: “ ...Asked about [S.I. GOP Leader] Antoniello throwing his support behind Donovan, the Assemblywoman said, ‘I respect everyone’s opinion in this,’ before noting, ‘We have four county leaders’ that will weigh in on the race. The process includes the Republican and Conservative Party chairs in Staten Island and Brooklyn, which contains a portion of the 11th Congressional district....” (See “Staten Island G.O.P. chair backs Donovan for Congress” by Colby Hamilton, 1/2/15, Capital/ New York [http://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/city-hall/2015/01/8559452/staten-island-gop-chair-backs-donovan-congress]).
Maliotokis is in over head in the Assembly.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times . . . .
I was just thinking this: Gale, is your "Tale of Two Bay Ridges" headline an implicit tip o' the hat to the passing of our late great Governor Mario M. Cuomo? Remember his 1984 speech at the convention, A Tale of Two Cities? I bet you watched it and were inspired like the rest of us. When I was young and funeral processions woould pass down the street I used to see men stop and tip their hat in respect. This was your tip of the hat to Mario. I'm sure it was.

UPDATE: THE “NICOLE AND THE CONSERVATIVES DECIDE THEY NEED TO CAUSE TROUBLE FOR THE GOP” EDITION
MALLIOTAKIS SAYS THAT SHE HAS THE SUPPORT OF THE CONSERVATIVES — BROOKLYN CONSERVATIVE CHAIRMAN KASSAR SAYS THAT HE AGREES — STATE CHAIRMAN MIKE LONG SAYS NICE THINGS ABOUT HER, BUT SAYS HE’S UNDECIDED NOW
According to Rachel Shapiro of the Staten Islan Advance, “Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis has the support of the Brooklyn Conservative Party if she decides to run for Congress. *** Ms. Malliotakis (R-East Shore/Brooklyn) made this revelation on John Catsimatidis' radio show, the Cats Roundtable on AM 970 The Answer, on Sunday morning....” (See “Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis gets support of Brooklyn Conservatives for potential Congress bid” by Rachel Shapiro, 1/5/15, Staten Island Advance/ silive.com [http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2015/01/assemblywoman_nicole_malliotak_8.html]).
Clearly this isn’t just Nicole’s pipedream, Rachel Shapiro’s report shows that Ms. Malliotakis is being encouraged in her aspirations by the likes of Jerry Kassar and Mike Long, with Staten Island Conservative Chairman Harold Wagner staying mum and staying out of all of it.
So what’s going on ?
Like I said here yesterday, it doesn’t look like THE DEAL between Mike Long and Dan Donovan has been made — YET.
The proof that such a deal is still in the works are these quotes in the Shapiro article in the Advance: "We don't have a problem with Danny Donovan but we have worked with Nicole for a number of years." – Kassar; “I know the Kings County Conservative Party has made it very clear that they support Nicole and I have no problem with that.... But we'll see who announces and who gets in the race before I make a decision.... [B]oth candidate are very acceptable, without a doubt." – Long.
In some societies this sort of dance might be called “Kabuki”; in others more like ours, it’s called a “shakedown.” Too bad, the principals in the GOP won’t stand up to it. — Funny, that’s one of the many differences between “principles” and “principals.”
What choice does Long really have? Has he ever endorsed a democrat?
Mike Long attended the Cuomo wake at Campbell's yesterday. Newsday tweeted his photo going in.
there once was a story that mario cuomo once coldcocked good old mike long... then that story was "corrected"... wonder what really happened?
RESPONSE TO “ANON... 12:37 PM” & [WAY] BACKFILL: THE “STRANGE HISTORY OF MIKE LONG AND CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES” EDITION
WHEN DINOSAURS ROAMED THE EARTH... AND DEMOCRATS RULED THE CONGRESS... MIKE LONG WAS WHEELIN’ ’N’ DEALIN’ EVEN THEN
There was a congressman, named Mario Biaggi, that Mike Long stood by until the bitter end, very much like Congressman Grimm [without a death bed], except Biaggi was a Democrat. — For the record, both Biaggi and Grimm wound up with Federal cracks in each of their Dorian Gray portraits.
Sometime around 1974, Biaggi, who was also an attorney, did the legal work to change the name of a Levantine character, then named Bruno Zeferet. The name they chose was “Leo Zefferetti” (I guess to make his name rhyme with “spaghetti,” which was a very popular dish in many parts of Brooklyn at the time). Then, a pair of Mike Long’s very important advisers at the time, Mario Biaggi and Meade Esposito convinced Mike Long that Bruno Z, who was now Leo Z, was a true conservative, just like Mario Biaggi. So Mike Long backed Zefferetti for Congress, and Mr. Z became the Brooklyn D-C representative in D.C.
Don’t forget, in some circles Mike Cusick is considered a conservative Democrat, just like Mario Biaggi and Leo Zefferretti were in the days when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Oddly, as Nicole Malliotakis’ stock for Congress goes up, so does Mike Cusick’s.
Gale, you're at your scrivner's best when you sprinkle your posts with these historical connections. Do it more often. It's like sitting in the last row of an Irish politician's wake and listening in . . .
Neither Biaggi nor Esposito were from Queens. They came from other outer boroughs. Mario Cuomo came from Queens and today we heard that the Pope said Jesus too probably would have come from Queens if he were alive today. A Jesuit said it at the funeral.

GOLDEN HAS A HISTORY OF TAKING STANDS ON BOTH SIDES OF AN ISSUE: GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION; POLICE SURVEILLANCE OF ISLAMIC PLACES; AND PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FROM SEXUAL PREDATORS TOP THE LIST
WILL GOLDEN’S PLACE ON A NYS SENATE’S JOINT COMMITTEE ON POLICE SAFETY AND PUBLIC PROTECTION SHOW GOLDEN’S “EVOLVED EVENHANDEDNESS”
It was recently announced both by the NYS Senate and State Senator Martin Golden’s Office that State Senator Golden would have a hand in a series of public hearings convened by four Senate committees starting in early January to examine police safety and public protection in New York City and throughout the state ( See “Senate to Hold Joint Committee Hearings in January About Police Safety and Public Protection” posted by Majority Press Office, 12/29/14, NYS Senate [http://www.nysenate.gov/press-release/senate-hold-joint-committee-hearings-january-about-police-safety-and-public-protection]).
Here’s what Golden had to say about it himself, “As a former New York City Police Officer, I stand ready to work with my colleagues and hold these important hearings in the new year. It is our belief that a review of the current structure of governance protecting our law enforcement officers must be conducted. We look forward to the participation of many public safety experts as we review training procedures, pension and disability benefits, and discuss better ways to protect those who keep us safe. The safety of our City and State depends on the strength and support we give those who serve and guard us, and we must make sure we do everything in our power to guarantee their safety.”
People who care deeply about many issues, have long known that Marty Golden is anything but a dependable ally. Will that now extend to Republican controlled NY State Senate maintaining the clear backing of local police in the face of a well-orchestrated national anti-police campaign waged by the likes of Al Sharpton, Mayor Bill de Blasio and others ? With Golden on the job, one has to wonder, in spite of his personal and family ties to the NYPD.
Just two years ago, Marty Golden did his biggest turnaround yet on policing matters. In the face of a tough election challenge by Democrat Andrew Gounardes, Golden tacked strongly to the left and reversed his long-held publicly expressed support of the NYPD’s program of closely monitoring Muslim places of meeting and prayer in order to keep their finger on the pulse of radical Islamist terrorists in our midst. He did this while on stage with Palestinian activist Linda Sarsour at an event hosted by one of her crypto-Islamist front groups ( See “Sen. Golden Comes Out Against Counterterrorism Surveillance of Mosques at Arab-American Candidate’s Forum” posted by By Shadi Bushra & Elaine Mao, 10/11/12, Covering Political News – Brooklyn Campaign Districts 17 & 22/ BrooklynCampaign.com [http://brooklyncampaign.com/2012/10/sen-golden-comes-out-against-counterterrorism-surveillance-of-mosques-at-arab-american-candidates-forum/]).
