To me the biggest news is the derivative story — the National Republican Chairman was at the table in Brooklyn — the New York State Republican Chairman was at the table in Brooklyn — BUT GUESS WHO WAS NOT REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN AT THE TABLE IN BROOKLYN ! — (you do the math) the Brooklyn Republican Chairman seems to have been very noticeable by his absence
On another front, Eaton comes out with his hands up.... And he’s probably looking for a Catsimatidis handout, just in time for the Lincoln Dinner
According to Celeste Katz' early evening post on March 11th, “Bernard today hosted RNC Chairman Reince Preibus and state GOP Chairman Ed Cox at his Christian Cultural Center....”
( “Brooklyn Megachurch Pastor A.R. Bernard Stops "Actively Considering" 2013 GOP Mayor Run” by Celeste Katz, 3/11/13, Daily News/ Daily Politics [http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/2013/03/brooklyn-megachurch-pastor-ar-bernard-stops-actively-considering-2013-gop-mayo]). That quote encapsulates about half of the content of the article; the rest is probably summed-up by Celeste Katz like this, “The influential Brooklyn megachurch pastor specified in a conversation with the Daily News this afternoon that he is "no longer actively considering" a leap into the crowded GOP primary field.”
Maybe I’m too cynical to be reading into what pastors, and state and national chairmen are getting at, but as near as I can tell the big meeting between Cox, Priebus and Brooklyn Mega-Church Pastor A.R. Bernard didn’t result in anything newsworthy other than a proclamation of the already obvious, the Mister Reverend Bernard still is not running for Mayor of the City of New York.
The fact that Mr. Eaton apparently was no longer in mourning didn’t alter the more significant fact that he didn’t seem to make the cut for the meeting of influential Republicans at A.R. Bernard’s Christian Cultural Center.
Btw, the reason we suspect that Brooklyn GOP Chairman Eaton was no longer in mourning on Monday morning was that he was doing other politics in the form of giving quotes on the record on the GOP mayoral front. The specifics of that were provided by Colin Campbell in his column on the Politicker blog. Although I doubt that he might describe it quite this way, what I’m getting out of Campbell’s post is that Craig Eaton was slipping John Catsimatidis some heavy tongue action, while at the same moment slipping Adolfo Carrion a nifty stiletto just left of center right below the ribcage, along with a neat oyster-opening-like flick of the wrist that works equally well on the aorta (See “CATS OUT OF THE BAG – Brooklyn GOP Now ‘Leaning Heavily’ Towards Endorsing John Catsimatidis,” Colin Campbell, 3/11/13, Daily Observer/Politicker [http://politicker.com/2013/03/brooklyn-gop-now-leaning-heavily-towards-endorsing-john-catsimatidis/]). You see instead of Colin’s version, my headline would have been something like this “EATON NEEDS ANY KIND OF GOP MAYORAL PUSSY HE CAN GET – Tries to get to Second Base with Catsimatidis, while giving Carrion [an anatomy lesson]” (Sorry, even I thought my preferred headline was a little over the line).

Looks like word of the Eaton-Golden split got out to the Reverend AR Bernard, Ed Cox and Rance Priebus, and maybe Eaton can use John Catsimatidis as a life preserver in a Golden and Lhota swimming hole
SIDEBAR: On the same day that Adolfo Carrion was, in effect, getting his walking papers from Brooklyn Republican Chairman Craig Eaton, reportedly Carrion was getting taken to task for his association with and attempt to run for mayor in the Republican Party by somebody described as a former Carrion campaign chairman, “...a giant in the communications world, and a major Democratic fund-raiser and civic activist.” According to Azi Paybarah’s post in the blog “Capital...,” Leo Hindery Jr. was unequivocal in saying that “"I can't support Adolfo [running] as a Republican.... I will not support Mr. Carrion. I'm a Democrat and people who become Republicans to get elected are no longer people I can comfortably support.... [Carrion] had the privilege of serving this [White House] administration as a Democrat. He went in as a Democrat. I think it's tawdry that he's running as a Republican." (See “‘Tawdry,’ A Former Carrion Campaign Chair On His Independence-Republican Play,” by Azi Paybarah, 3/11/13, This Is How New York Works - Capital [http://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/politics/2013/03/8265274/tawdry-former-carrion-campaign-chair-his-independence-republican-pl]).
Wasn't the possibility of a cascade of Democrats, like Leo Hindery, turning away from their prior support of Adolfo Carrion always "the existential threat" to any mayoral campaign by Carrion as a "Republican"; and even more so, shouldn't it have been seen as a poison pill to the logic behind any Republican County Leader's supporting such a "game changer" campaign.
Don't know where you get your information. Should check your sources. I was there yesterday and Eaton was prominently in attendance and mentioned at the Event at the CCC yesterday. Why dont you stop stirring a pot with false information.
My sources were published accounts, none of which mentioned Mr. Eaton. I made that clear when I used the word "Reported...." Also a video interview of A.R. Bernard didn't contain any reference to Eaton although the others were referred to.
So here are a few questions for you:
-- Who are you? You were at the CCC yesterday and you read this blog -- that makes you almost unique -- what are the chances along with Eaton (if he were there) that would make two?
-- Why wasn't Brooklyn Republican Chairman Craig Eaton mentioned in any item of media coverage of the event?
-- If Eaton was there, was he invited -- was he "at the table"? That was the phrase I used in my sub-headline, as in "...BUT GUESS WHO WAS NOT REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN AT THE TABLE IN BROOKLYN ! — (YOU DO THE MATH)
-- If Eaton was "...prominently in attendance and mentioned at the Event at the CCC..." who saw him and who mentioned him?
As of this moment my post stands on its merits unchanged.
UPDATE & BACKFILL: Since my post and comment above, there have been many additional mentions of A.R. Bernard’s non-announcement for mayor. Accounts in City & State and The Daily Beast gave detailed listings of those invited to and/or present at the Monday event at A. R. Bernard's Christian Cultural Center on Flatlands Avenue (See “GOP Courts African-American Voters In Brooklyn,” by Nick Powell, 3/12/13, City&State [http://www.cityandstateny.com/gop-courts-african-american-voters-in-brooklyn/]; “RNC Chair Courts Black Republicans With Brooklyn ‘Listening Session’,” by Caitlin Dickson, 3/12/13,The Daily Beast [http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/03/12/rnc-chair-courts-black-republicans-with-brooklyn-listening-session.html] ).
In Colin Campbell’s “Morning Read...” for March 12, 2013 is a brief mention of the meeting at A.R. Bernard’s CCC in Brooklyn (See “Suggested Reading - Morning Read: ‘Severely Progressive’,” Colin Campbell, 3/12/13, NY Observer/Politicker [http://politicker.com/author/colin-campbell/]) ; with a link to a post containing a video link to A.R. Bernard’s brief Q&A with the press (See “A.R. Bernard – Running?” posted by John Kenny, 2/11/13, New York True 2012 [http://www.newyorktrue.com/a-r-bernard-running/]). The video link in the John Kenny post was the source for my statement in the comment above: “Also a video interview of A.R. Bernard didn't contain any reference to Eaton although the others were referred to.”
Btw, none of the media outlets cited above mentions Brooklyn Republican Chairman Craig Eaton in any way.
UPDATE: THE N.Y. SUNDAY POST EDITORIAL FOR MARCH 17, 2013
One of the most prominent references to the Cox-Priebus-A.R. Bernard meeting at the Christian Cultural Center to date, appeared on this Sunday Post's editorial page (See "‘Right’ move for blacks," Editorial, NY Post, 3/17/13 [http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/editorials/right_move_for_blacks_ueibZ0dBF6pyoW30rgLULL]). According to the editorial, Republican national boss Reince Preibus and state party leader Ed Cox were in Brooklyn last Monday. The pair sat with a group of African-Americans who align themselves firmly with the GOP. The subject: how to improve the party’s relations with blacks....
Here's what the Post Editorial said about the Republican leaders involved in the meeting:
> "Smart move by Priebus and Cox";
> "...Priebus and Cox tried to stress such points — and if that message gets through, blacks may well respond";
> "...Priebus, Cox & Co. will have to work hard to close the sale";
> "...[the] Priebus-Cox event [with A.R. Bernard] might be the start of a beautiful friendship."
As with every other media report of last Monday's meeting, Brooklyn Republican Chairman Craig Eaton was not mentioned.
