There’s been a bit of a buzz lately about Richard Luthmann & the Federal Case brought against him

At least one old courthouse wag told me that Luthmann “lucked out” getting the Hon. Jack Weinstein, DJ (EDNY) on his case  ---  he has been known to roast  Assistant U. S Attorneys that bring him junk arrests on pseudo-Federal raps  ---  just like this Luthmann case seems to be

Luthmann and Judge Weinstein are scheduled to have a little get together on 1/4/18  ---  Also, one of my sources following this case closely has let me know that on or before 1/4/18 the US. Attorney for the EDNY is likely to >>> ADD <<< some even more substantial things to the Ruthmann Indictment

Several other bloggers and freelance journalist types do appear to have an interest in the ulterior aspects of the charges brought against Richard Luthmann by the “Feds”  ---  they think that there might be some kind of collusion between the federal prosecutors and local politicos like the McMahons

Local dailies, both tabloid and broadsheet,  and other media also appear to have a more general interest in the case,  so it’s expected that there should at least a few reporters from the establishment media in the courtroom on the 4th of January

*****  One very odd factor that was brought to my attention by one of my more reliable BSIs was that  >>> BROOKLYN <<<  Conservative Party Chairman Jerry Kassar took a keen, and rather personal or emotional interest in the Luthmann Indictment  ---  purportedly Mr. Kassar sent several gloating E-mails or social media messages about the Reform Party’s needing  “A new General Counsel” and referring to Mr. Luthmann’s legal problems  (it also now seems possible that Kassar made a singular similar comment right here on this blog a while back) *****

As a little backfill, here’s part of how the NY Times has reported on this case:   “….   In the tightknit circles of the Staten Island courts, the lawyer Richard Luthmann has always been a kind of local oddity, styling himself as the borough’s version of a Nixonian dirty trickster. This summer, when Mr. Luthmann was accused of creating phony Facebook pages to undermine his enemies in Staten Island politics, he responded to charges by writing on Facebook: ‘I am a bear with the taste of blood in my mouth.’  A devoted fan of ‘Game of Thrones,’ he once asked a judge to let him settle a lawsuit by dueling with his adversary’s lawyer in what he called his ‘common-law right to Trial by Combat.’…   Volatile, perennially bow-tied and working from an office in a strip mall upstairs from a vape shop, Mr. Luthmann, 38, has a reputation for being somewhat strange, but at least until recently, his colleagues in the Staten Island bar said, he was considered to be harmless. That, however, changed last week when federal prosecutors accused him of a raft of bizarre and violent crimes, saying that he once tried to assassinate a top official in the borough’s Democratic Party and later sought to pay a stripper to claim that she was raped by a candidate running for district attorney….   Over the weekend, the accusations against Mr. Luthmann ricocheted across Staten Island, where lawyers and politicos tried to make sense of the allegations and figure out if the lawyer whom they had merely thought of as eccentric could have employed what the government described as ‘Mafia-style tactics.’…”   (See “Eccentric, Sure. But a Violent Criminal? Staten Island Puzzles Over the Case of Richard Luthmann” by Alan Feuerdec,   12/20/17,  NY Times   [https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/20/nyregion/staten-island-richard-luthmann-lawyer.html]).

Here's how the NY Times went on to describe the charges that the U.S. Attorney brought against Mr. Luthmann:   “….   The broad allegations against Mr. Luthmann were contained in court papers charging him with running an outlandish criminal scheme from his office on Victory Boulevard, a few blocks from the Staten Island Expressway. In an indictment issued on Friday, in Federal District Court in Brooklyn, prosecutors said that Mr. Luthmann joined forces with a blind man and two reputed mobsters to pack shipping containers with ‘cheap filler material’ and fraudulently sell them to a group of local businesses as scrap metal. In the midst of the plot, prosecutors claim, Mr. Luthmann turned on one of his partners and had him held at gunpoint to collect a $7,000 debt….   But according to the government, the scrap-metal operation was only the tip of Mr. Luthmann’s iceberg of misconduct. In a detailed memorandum that describes conduct not charged in the indictment, prosecutors said that for the past several years, Mr. Luthmann has wielded lawsuits, social media attacks and threats of physical violence to wage a series of ‘bullying campaigns’ that furthered his ‘vendettas against his perceived enemies.’…”

***************

That's all for now,  because I still don't have enough Info to go out on a limb for this guy.  However, this case does have the odor of some very old squid sticking to it.  And if national news is any guide,  lately the DOJ and the FBI might well be running a dirty shop like any dirty local DA types and their even dirtier investigators  (look at what his successors have uncovered about Brooklyn DA Hynes and his crew).

What a rogues gallery. You have

Mike "Smiling Mike" McMahon
Dennis "El Gordo" Quirk.
Judith "Dog Face" McMahon

And a Federal Prosecutor whose more interested in Luthmanns silly campaign antics than the McMahon crime family that turned the Staten Island Courts into an ATM.

Or maybe Luthmann really is a crook.

Anonymous said...

Of course Luthmann is a crook. He's on Staten Island, he's in politics and he's a lawyer. That's called three strikes and your out.

Kassar was jumping for joy when Luthmann was arrested. I felt the tremors.

Anonymous said...

will Donovan be the last one to know the conservative party is endorsing McMahon for congress?

Happy New Year Gov. CAPANO

Luthmann will prevail

The so called "reform" party ran for the hills when boss mcmahon had his guys grab Luthmann.

Politics is a tough game. The reform party isnt shaping up to be much.

Anonymous said...

Kassar has crushed the reform party like a bag of cats grapes.

I hear the next 2 weeks the Reform Party will be making big news

It's properly spelled Bob CRAPANO.

Anonymous said...

The reform school party just had a loss in the courts as reported in today's Times Union. The conservative party is again the only third party in town.

Way to go bob

Big news coming from Bob Capano this coming week..will cement his place in Brooklyn residents' homes for the years ahead....just wait!!

Anonymous said...

We need Chairman Capano to lead us into 2018.

We need it.

Anonymous said...

Trump and Capano will lead us into greatness.

Anonymous said...

Trust me this will be big and those who thought Capano was gone will be sorely disappointed..this will put Capano front and center on the Brooklyn political scene regularly...and it has nothing to do with the Reform Party !! I can't wait

God Bless u Bob

god bless u

Hang in there Chairman..they clearly fear you..while John Quaglione was home still wallowing in his loss you were with 100+ of New York City's movers and shakers discussing big moves for 2018..I can't wait..

Anonymous said...

One thing is for sure it sounds like a big 2018 for Capano..while Q is still getting Marty's coffee

I sense a good 2018 for McCall, Capano, the Reform Party, and not so good for Golden and Quaglione

Anonymous said...

getting Martys coffee is more important than anything bob will ever do

Anonymous said...

See what happened to Luthman after he posted comments on this blog

Anonymous said...

At least 1236pm, who is clearly one of Goldens cronies finally admits Johns real function..
Ahahah

Better to get coffee for 90k a year than bagging groceries for 40k a year.

Anonymous said...

Luthmann is the story of 2018

Anonymous said...

90K, no wonder JQ is "loyal" to Marty. I'd be "loyal" for 2/3rds of that.

But I'm sure that JQ was "loyal" to Marty for less than half that, once upon a time.

What does Staten Island Bobby Zahn, once Luthmann's close friend and compatriot, now think of Mr. Luthmann and the charges against him?

Anonymous said...

Why does anyone care about capano on anything? He wasted thousands of taxpayer dollars to finish last place in three or four elections.

Anonymous said...

This is about Luthmann. Did Kassar jump the gun on the celebration of Luthmanns legal trouble? Why do these comments always go back to capano? He works in a supermarket

Anonymous said...

Enough already about Capano and Quaglione, they are old news. If either of them actually DOES something new and newsworthy, then tell me about it, or better yet, wait until I tell you about it.

Anonymous said...

It always comes back to Capano, because they fear him

Anonymous said...

Unlike Quaglione, who has only gotten Marty coffee, Capano is also a respected Professor with the City University of NY

Anonymous said...

God bless u Chairman Bob

god bless u

If Bob Capano truly wants to be a strong political leader, he'll come out 100% behind Richard Luthmann; and he would expose the whole indictment charade as a conspiracy to miscarry justice to benefit the likes of Quirk, the McMahons and the Conservative Party leaders in Brooklyn and Staten Island.

Anonymous said...

Bob is a leader but first he has to deal with the clean up in aisle 3

Anonymous said...

Hang in there Chairman and Professor..
They attack u because they fear u..
Look at 819am comment

6:48 needs to understand that when you are at the top you have to distance yourself from the minor players who can drag you down. Like Trump needed to distance himself from Manafort.

Anonymous said...

The comments above raise some very good points. True leaders, like bob, master the practice of multi tasking. I believe bob can work behind the scenes to help Luthmann and still bag groceries.

Anonymous said...

There they go again chairman. People mocked Christ who was a carpenter.

Anonymous said...

Christ never bagged groceries

Anonymous said...

Hang in there Chairman, Professor, Manager..they fear u

Anonymous said...

What happened to Luthman is an example of what happens to people who pose a real threat to the establishment.

Relax Bob. Nobody will ever come after you.

Before DA McMahon decides to let Quirk be his enforcer he might want to look at how it ended for DA Hynes. Another Quirk move.

Chairman Capano
Please see comment 1003 am..i can't believe they are still coming at you..they must fear you.

Does Capano appreciate Bay Ridge?
