"1994"

Hey, folks,  I hate to break it to you  ---  the NYS GOP-Conservative Party swan song was almost twenty-five years ago  ---  I'll do the math for you (hint: look at the title of this post),  it was 1994  ---  and that's pretty close to a quarter century ago; so we ain't talkin' news here, we're talkin' HISTORY !!!!!

Another year is coming to an end here in Brooklyn (and rumor has it  ---  elsewhere in the world,  as well).  And another election cycle has passed without any real competitiveness from the Republicans or their "allies" in the local branch of the NYS Conservative Party.

The numbers we saw from the tops of OUR tickets in 2017, and even from the contested headliner races down-ballot, were appalling. ( BTW, John Quaglione,  if getting close were the same thing as, or even anything like,  WINNING, then NAVY would have the Commander-in-Chief Trophy back in Annapolis today and it wouldn't be headed up the Hudson for at least a one year stay at West Point).

The reason we find ourselves in this fix is that people like George Pataki, Rudy Giuliani and Mike Bloomberg  ---  who all won election or re-election multiple times on the GOP line since 1994  ---  were  quintessential RINOs.  They ran as Republicans and governed as Democrats.  Hey, don't listen to me,  look at the enthusiastic endorsements from DC-37 and Ray Rivera.....

One thing that these RINOs didn't do was build up a city- or state-wide Republican Party during their multiple stints as governor and mayor  through the late 90s and even on into Millennial times.....  BUT,  neither did anybody else.

Perhaps even worse,  the leaders of the so-called NYS Conservative Party were paid-off handsomely to keep their mouths shut as RINOs Pataki, Giuliani and Bloomberg talked a little bit right,  but governed very much left.  You will recall that both Mike Long and Jerry Kassar vigorously defended Governor Pataki when various other members of the NYS Conservative Party wanted to pull the line from Governor Pataki.

Back in 1994 it was a completely different story.....

The Clintons had taken Washington by storm and in New York City and State, the Democrats looked pretty much in control (and even though "Rudy" had eked-out a win in 1993, Democrats were already talking about taking out "The Fonse" in a few years).   Nonetheless, a relatively unknown George Pataki was running as a conservative-minded protege of "The Fonse,"  who was still holding court as "Senator Pot-hole";  a very conservative-sounding Herb London was foisted on the GOP to be its NYS Controller candidate by NYS Conservative Party extortion at the GOP convention (BTW, ask Kassar or Mike Long about that one.....); and a little-known Reagan-era U.S. Attorney from western New York,  Dennis Vacco, found himself in a race for NYS AG against a self-proclaimed lesbian.

The only thing that kept the top of the GOP ticket from having a near-sweep in 1994 (Bernadette Castro having had no real shot against incumbent U.S. Senator Pat Moynihan)  was that the Conservative Party's darling and the "shotgun wedding" Republican nominee for Controller,  Herb London,  inexplicably endorsed the incumbent Democrat Governor Mario Cuomo for re-election very late in the 1994 campaign.  Oddly, Cuomo and London,  who were both ahead in the polls at the time of the London endorsement, each found themselves on the losing end of the stick on election day 1994.

Nothing like the 1994 dynamic exists today.

Back to being a Whig

Jerry Kassar has been running the show since way before 1994. He still does.
Bob Capano and Craig Eaton were only a blip on the radar-- they came & went. Kasar is still around in control

God Bless you Chairmen Capano and Eaton.

Jerry Kassar has been running Republican candidates --not named Marty Golden-- into the ground for a lot longer than that.

Anonymous said...

Is Craig Eaton & Bob Capano still alive???

To 1:01, don't Whigs have to wear wigs?

While Craig hangs out with prominent influential people, folks in Bay Ridge who backed Ghorra have to kiss up to Kassar and pretend they don't know he intentionally wrecked their campaigns.

Back around 1994, GOP Chairman Arthur Bramwell, who Kassar worked with behind the scenes to unseat Bob DiCarlo as GOP Chairman in 1993, tried to establish an arms-length relationship with the Conservative Party and tried do the same thing with the Liberal Party, who had an inside track with Mayor Giuliani. Kassar and Mike long responded by telling Bramwell that they couldn't work with him if he had any kind of similar dealings with the Libs. Soon after that Bramwell and the Conservatives split completely. By 1994, the Conservatives dealt with some Brooklyn Republicans one-on-one, but generally they stopped working with the Kings "County" Organization, which at the time also had Ron D'Angelo and Steve Dorn at the top.; after 1994 the GOP Governor's patronage was sent down through the Conservative Party, and That continued for some time, so effectively, the Brooklyn GOP was ....-blocked by both the Brooklyn Conservatives and the state-wide GOP from any significant party-building patronage after Bramwell took over.

By the time Eaton showed up, there was no meaningful patronage being given out to the GOP by Mayor Bloomberg and there were no state-wide Republicans. The only stuff came through Marty G. and Kassar and up-staters controlled that. Right after Eaton became Brooklyn GOP Chairman in 2007 Kassar told somebody that I know well words to the effect of, 'Eaton thinks he runs the Brooklyn GOP, but he'll learn soon enough that I do'.

Kasssar still runs all. and even 830 am admits it !!
I think when 830 am says "while craig hangs out with prominent influential people" he means that while craig freeloads for free meals with Catsimatidas by driving him !!
sad!!
Noone in Bay Ridge evn speaks with Craig anymore- I have not seen him at any local holiday parties- but have seen KAssar & Ghorra at them!

No one in Bay Ridge outside of the hangers on who owe their jobs to them care about Ghorra and Kassar. The former most people have never heard of and the latter most people wish they hadn't. While they try to be "seen" at the Manor, Craig enjoys cigars outside of 21.

I dont think 9:59 means 1% bodyfat

Craig Eaton is definitely smoking John Cats cigar!!!

Why people fault Eaton and Capano for being friends with a billionaire is beyond me..

Q== What do you a call a City council candidate who wins by even just one vote?

A== Councilman.

Anonymous said...

Quaglione needs to stop the scapegoating..now on Twitter he is blaming the City Council Speaker candidates who donating and volunteered for Brannan for costing him the election..take a look at his tweets from yesterday

Anonymous said...

I and most others are starting to feel strongly John Quaglione needs an intervention. Some body needs to tell him the race is over and he lost.....again. Taking a look since the end of the election cycle, Bob Capano has not missed a beat. I and others expect Bob to play a vital role in the growth of the Reform Party in 2018 meanwhile John Quaglione is still showing up to campaign events and posting weather maps like it's July and he's in a deadheat with McCabe

Q has no one to blame for his loss besides his team following Jerry's orders and idiotic pullout strategy.

I thought 1994 was Bobs weight

Saperstein barely got 36% so nothing Kassar or anything anybody else did would have mattered. But then again if Saperstein got 1% he would be in a position to take over the world.

Gale- get control of your blog-- Capano & Eaton are irrlevant..

Anyway, if it's meant for you, u know they are attacking because they see u as a threat

can anybody here confirm or deny a rumor I heard about John Quaglione hiring PricewaterhouseCoopers to conduct an audit on the general election results? he thinks their might be wiggle room in the 10,000 votes he lost by in his crushing defeat

If Kassar really engaged in a pull-out strategy, how come he has no kids?

I differ with comments regarding party leaders. Guiliani, Pataki, D'amato,Bloomberg all did nothing for GOP leaders. Whose fault is that? Mike Long got more than he deserved from Pataki and others for the conservatives and he purged the Republican party of the Javits Rockefeller types. Long did and got what he wanted.

RESPONSE: THE "GRASSHOPPER" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 9:46 PM"

GRASSHOPPER, YOU HAVE LEARNED YOUR LESSONS WELL..... YOU SHOW WISDOM FAR BEYOND THAT OF MOST REPUBLICAN TYPES --- YOU MUST BE A CONSERVATIVE PARTY MEMBER (OR A RECENT CONVERT TO REPUBLICANISM) OR YOU ARE A DEMOCRAT

Yes, folks like Mike Long and Serf Maltese, and a few others in that "Third Party" got what they wanted, but as a direct result the Republican Party in New York City and State is now practically dead and almost defunct as a functioning formal party.

Tell me this, Grasshopper: How long can the parasite NYS Conservative Party survive now that its host Republican Party is dead ????? How long can the NDC -- Simcha Felder -- David Greenfield games keep feeding the maggot-like larvae of the current crop of Conservative "leaders" until they find a new host to feed on like the old 1994-style GOP ?????

God Bless u Gale

So now Mike Long is supposed to look out for the republican party? I guess thats part of the job. The GOP Leaders that went along with 20 years of Giuliani and Bloomberg were a bunch of chumps.

RESPONSE: THE "I HOPE YOU AREN'T GRASSHOPPER" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 11:56 PM"

I NEVER SAID NOR IMPLIED THAT "... MIKE LONG IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK OUT FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY..." --- I THINK YOU ARE SETTING UP A STRAWMAN ARGUMENT ON THAT POINT --- BUT YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT ".... THE GOP LEADERS THAT WENT ALONG WITH 20 YEARS OF GIULIANI AND BLOOMBERG WERE A BUNCH OF CHUMPS"

If you are Grasshopper, you need to listen more and not jump-to and talk-about fast but false conclusions. Just because your brain is agitated and filled up with nonsense that must come out, don't talk about it or put it on my blog as a comment; instead, stay well hydrated, and try to pee and poop more regularly.....

I saw there were a whopping 15 people at Ted Ghorra HIP bklyn holiday party

Anonymous said...

I hear Eaton and Capano will be together alone for their holiday party at the Bridgeview

Anonymous said...

to 5:40 how can you be alone if you are together?

Anonymous said...

In fairness to Ted, hardly anyone showed up because he couldn't get the invitations out in time. Jerry took forever to decide to give him permission to have the party.
