Financial bankruptcy following years of moral bankruptcy in the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, New York.....
Former right hand man to accused pedophile Bishop of Brooklyn Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop Edward Scharfenberger, announced the bankruptcy filing this morning --- following through on his BIG LIE, worthy of Nazi spokesperson Joseph Goebbels in December 2019: "Whatever
we do has to be done in a way that puts victims first...." (while at the same time acknowledging that bankruptcy could freeze the victims' attempts at fair and just compensation through civil litigation) “We want to look at all of
those things, and then that might be the best way to go.”
The Albany Times Union has reported that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, which is temporarily being administered by Brooklyn Bishop DiMarzio's former consiglieri and sex abuse fixer and now the Albany Bishop Edward B.
Scharfenberger, filed for bankruptcy Friday morning as that little piece of the gigantic Catholic puzzle tries to deal with
hundreds of lawsuits alleging decades of child sexual abuse, and in the case of Buffalo, well-documented cover-ups (See "Buffalo Diocese files for bankruptcy after hundreds of

This is
the second New York State diocese to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy – which allows
for the reorganization of assets instead of outright liquidation. Previously, the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Rochester similarly filed for bankruptcy in September of 2019. This decision by the Diocese of Buffalo was largely anticipated, because the Buffalo diocese was facing more than 250
lawsuits, filed in the past six months alleging sexual abuse. The Catholic Church's Buffalo Diocese has emerged as the
most-named single defendant in New York State in "Child Victims Act" cases.
Since August in New York State, the "Child Victims Act" opened a one-year window temporarily
eliminating the statute of limitations for civil cases involving sex crimes.
Since then, more than 1,600 cases have been filed statewide, many of them
disclosing decades-old allegations.

When it come to bankruptcies, the bigger plaintiff's attorneys and/or their lead bankruptcy counsel(s) need to go hard at the pre-bankruptcy divestitures that are being done by Roman Catholic Diocese after Roman Catholic Diocese throughout the USA, most recently including the Diocese of Buffalo.
The Archdioceses of Santa Fe is a good example, where almost 400 cases against the archdiocese led to a Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy, but not before about fifty properties and/or other "estates" were transferred to parish trusts and other entities. The Chapter 11 proceedings are ongoing as are the attempts to claw-back the divestitures as improper transfers.
It is well documented that, before he had become Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan had been part of just such a scheme to divert funds to a "cemetery fund" for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. In that case, plaintiffs' lawyers were able to claw-back the money into the Archdiocese of Milwaukee's bankruptcy estate. It's all pretty well covered in a relatively recent article in the Bloomberg's business weekly (See "Catholic Church Shields $2 Billion in Assets to Limit Abuse Payouts -- Dioceses are aggressively moving and reclassifying holdings to shrink the value of their bankruptcy estates" by Josh Saul, 1/8/2020, Bloomberg Businessweek [https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2020-01-08/the-catholic-church-s-strategy-to-limit-payouts-to-abuse-victims]).
Several attorneys are also litigating the application of the U.S. R.I.C.O. designation against the entire Catholic Church of Rome, now headed by Pope Francis --- or at least all of its U.S. based subsidiaries subject to court jurisdiction for those acts taking place in the United States, as well as such foreign based entities as might also be subject to American courts' jurisdiction.

There is a good reason why Kassar did it that way. Kassar wants anything that he might say favorably about Vito Bruno to be long forgotten when Bruno's campaign lands on good old Brooklyn terra firma like the Nazi Zeppelin "Hindenberg" did in Lakehurst, New Jersey.
Without a doubt, Jerry Kassar is painfully and deeply embarrassed at about how much he had to LIE in his most recent "Common Sense" column about Vito Bruno to make Bruno even sound like an acceptable candidate for any respectable community. John Belushi died in LA from a heroin overdose on March 5, 1982.
Here’s how Bob Woodward described what Vito Bruno did for John Belushi just a few nights before in his book "WIRED":
It was early AM on Sunday, February 28, 1982 at Vito Bruno’s after hours joint AM/PM where Belushi had been three nights in a row. Belushi and a few friends hit the VIP and VVIP rooms at AM/PM --- and John Belushi was wild looking for drugs, and announcing it and shouting it out loud. “John found Vito Bruno and got a gram of coke.” Then Belushi got really crazy and nasty and “Bruno got concerned. That was too dangerous.” Vito then got rid of Belushi as fast as he could, getting Belushi out of his place using his Rolls Royce and driver to take Belushi wherever he wanted to go. Before leaving, Belushi said to Vito Bruno, “I’m going back to L.A…. See you I don’t know when.” Belushi then left, went to another nearby club that was thought to be really “raunchy.” Less than a week later, John Belushi was dead.
Isn't it fair to say that John Belushi seemed to have a few too many "friends" like Vito Bruno, late in February and early in March 1982.
