Ed Cox was a routine catastrophic presence as NYS Republican State Chairman --- for Republicans his results were pretty much like those of the "Titanic" or the "Hindenburg," for his full tenure taken as a whole, maybe even like 9/11..... Langworthy showed some initial promise. That vanished when Trump endorsed him, and signaled he wanted Cox out. Love him or hate him, Trump is the kiss of death for Republicans running in blue states like New York.
The NY GOP's historic centrist role in the party could have been a lifesaver in the post-Trump era. Unfortunately, centrist/moderate Republicanism died last fall, when the Met Club, former home club for a century of middle-of-the-road-Republicans, invited the Proud Boys to speak.
They chased and beat demonstrators near the club, leading to criminal charges for several Proud Boy members, and disastrous political headlines for Brooklyn's then-Senator Marty Golden. The Proud Boys ally and Met Club president was Golden's campaign HQ chief of staff.
Langworthy might have steered the state Republican party to safe shores. Embracing Trump has scuttled his chances.

The Brooklyn GOP is as good as dead. In the last 6 months alone they’ve lost Saperstein, Washington, Denaro, Batya Goldberg. Even people who were enthusiastic about pitching in are gone like Franklin Gonzalez, Daniel Slavin, Vito and Vito. This was all because the Brooklyn GOP was told to bow down to Liam. Who has done nothing but lose and at a time where a party needs to unite has done nothing but alienate and be in the pockets of decent candidates.

The current Kings County Republican "establishment" doesn't care that it has hemorrhaged political talent for years; from top to bottom, they only want to jockey for a place at a trough of diminishing scraps and crumbs [Hint: Golden is at the top and Liam nearer to the bottom].
In spite of mewing about going Dem, Steve Saperstein is still in a position to take over the entire Brooklyn GOP by working outside-inward against many of the spots where Marty Golden is strong, or more accurately, once had been. A good start would be to realign with Eaton, who is still very much "in the game".....

As for aligning with Craig Eaton, it’s my understanding that he tried to manipulate Craig and Bob Capano ealry in his Assembly race and they discarded him right quick when they realized what he was really all about. The only one who fell for his act is poor Ted Ghorra who bet the very small but still whole Brooklyn GOP farm on building up Steve Saperstein only to see him ditch the GOP to run on the Democrat Conservative line.

Some say the Marty G. lost his State Senate seat in 2018 because he never solved his GOP base problems in the 46th AD. After all, that's the place where he lives and where the people know him best.
The 46th AD is probably the bedrock GOP district in Southwest Brooklyn; and once again, the Golden-Ghorra-McCabe-McCarthy-Quaglione team just can't seem to keep it in line without another big GOP Primary fight there. That's something that seems to happen there almost every time; certainly that sort of thing happens there more than any other place in Brooklyn.
The GOP insurgents in the 46th AD helped the Democrats, Brannan and Gounardes, send Marty packing in 2018 --- and Marty's big primary fight against some of the same GOP insurgents in the 46th again in 2019 shows that he didn't learn his lessons from the past.
Marty Golden's side has been winning the battle there in the 46th AD for a few years now. However, it's clear that each of those victories in the 46th was pyrrhic, with lower and lower votes for Marty there in his General Election contests for the State Senate, even against some very weak Democratic opponents.
To paraphrase: "Those who refuse to learn from past mistakes in the 46th AD are doomed to repeat them."
GM Marty didn’t lose because of any insurgents. His loss was in the works a long time coming. Without Georgea and Ray running the campaign, Marty was at the mercy of the idiots assembled by Gerry. Word out on the street is that Marty has already decided that he’s running again, if that’s the case he can win if as you suggest he patches things up with old adversaries. If he thinks he’s going to do the same things he did in the past and assemble the same band of hapless sycophants that he did last time and have any chance of winning, he’s in a for a rude awakening.
Marty and Q are done. Marty did a robocall for Q the same day Q sent out a defamatory and anti gay flyer to the GOP in the 46th.
Shame on both of them...they will pay dearly for this flyer.
It will bury Marty and put the last nail in his coffin.

The one-two punch for John Quaglione shows that Golden implicitly and explicitly shares Quaglione's outlook on certain issues. They are campaigning as a team in 2019, and Golden says Quaglione "shares our values". Let's see if Golden tries to walk away from any of that in 2020.
It's clear that Golden is still surrounding himself with advisors that are in lockstep with his backward thinking mid-twentieth century Bay Ridge outlook. None of them seem to know it's the second decade of the twenty-first century, and that places like Bay Ridge have changed, and even Marine Park and Gerritsen Beach are changing.
Cats is with Golden in 2020 and therefore Eaton will be also..

The recently circulated flyer attacking his opponent in the GOP Primary for State Committeeman from the 46th AD, Eugene Ovsishcher, purports to be from John Quaglione.....
Johnny Q. has sort of disavowed the piece, saying that it is "not from [his] campaign." Nonetheless, he has not rebutted any of the substantive implications of the mailed piece of 'political literature' with strong anti-gay overtones.
So far, this seems to be a very, very targeted mailing; and does have the earmarks of a political 'dirty trick' of some sort --- but, then again, maybe, NOT.....
In expressing his real or feigned ire, John Quaglione delivered a full-on broadside at the Bay Ridge Dems, a group closely associated with Justin Brannan, who narrowly defeated "Q" in 2017. Mr. Q. says that he thinks it was they that were responsible for the attack on his opponent and falsely attributing the mailing to Quaglione. That attack was absolutely opportunistic and, as I mentioned above, quite disingenuous to say the least, because it is very unlikely to be true. It is much more likely that the scandalous and scurrilous flyer emanated from a source inside the Brooklyn GOP. Specifically, it either came from John Quaglione himself and/or somebody working on his behalf, meaning all Q's denials are lies; or it came from Eugene Ovsishcher's other GOP opponent, Daniel J. Slavin, and/or somebody working on Slavin's behalf.
There is one thing that I might agree about with Johnny-Cakes --- this whole sad affair needs to be investigated; and let's be sure that postal inspectors are involved from the get-go.
Is this the same Quaglione who, while debating at Xaverian two years ago, called women who have abortions "Barbarians?"
Someone ought to remind Q that the real barbarians are women like his female cousin, who hid a pregnancy from her family, and when the dead baby was found in her garbage can, claimed amnesia.

Quaglione's overly hostile statements on the Fight Back Bay Ridge site were just plain stupid. They made him look and sound guilty for attacking a fellow Republican, who is also a veteran, for being gay. It makes more sense that either Quaglione or one of his people did the mailer rather than anybody else.
Daniel Slavin will be the next 46th leader and when that happens it's another nail in Golden and Quagliones political coffins..

John Quaglione and Kerri McCarthy are Bay Ridgeites that live four blocks apart in the 90s close to Shore Road, they're also only a few blocks away from Marty Golden's home. That area is very atypical of the 46th AD as a whole, which includes neighborhoods as far away as most of Coney Island and Brighton Beach, and even parts of Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan Beach.
Quaglione and McCarthy share the same backward olden days Bay Ridge thinking as Marty Golden --- the kind of thinking that holds many races and classes of people to be less human than they are.
Daniel Slavin isn’t old enough to drink yet let alone be a district leader and would be a shame if it turns out that someone goaded this arrogant imbecilic young man into publishing that vile piece. It could have severe consequences for him.

The fact that at least one of these horrible mailed items was sent directly to reporter/columnist Julianne Cuba at her address in Williamsburg, which is well outside of the 46th AD, strongly suggests that this was intended to be a bomb intended to go off in John Quaglione's face. However, his response to it was, at best, problematic.
Moreover, without more hard evidence indicating the clear provenance of the offending material, every entity with any dog in this fight must remain suspect; and all associated individuals are to some extent still suspects of personally having disseminated the very offensive literature.
Truly sad. Golden, Ghorra, Kassar and Quags - homophobes who cant get anything straight.
So for argument sake, lets say that Quags didnt sent out the gruesome flyer.
His response, rebuke and denial was far short of what it should have been. He should have definitively stated what his position is?

Q's reaction -- especially if he didn't send out that mailer -- is the most compelling evidence that Q has zero public relations skills. He can't write, he's not good dealing with reporters, and him being Marty's press secretary says nothing about Q, but EVERYTHING about Golden's sense of people.

Some say the Slavin response was cooked up by Bob Capano, but that is hard to believe.

The real story here is how badly John Quaglione responded to the crisis for his campaign for "GOP District Leader" caused by the hate mailer, which was sent around favorably mentioning his name and facially benefitting Mr. Q. (BTW, my instant statement starts with an opinion, but it does contain two facts --- there was (were) some kind of hate mailer(s); and on their face, the hate mailers were pro-Quaglione.
Quaglione should have known that his mere denial of responsibility for his most recent problematic mailer would not fly, since he had a similar problem with an embarrassing mailer near the end of his unsuccessful run for City Council in 2017. His own failure at "damage control" for another very unpopular last minute pro-Quaglione mailer in 2017 might well have caused him to lose that surprisingly close election to Councilman Justin Brannan.
Nothing surprising about how close Q came to beating low IQ Justin. Sore losers cost Q that election. As for Bob he’s been reduced to being a shit stirrer. A grown man in search of a party finds himself egging on kids not yet old enough to drink.

Here's the problem with Quaglione's latest whine: The positions stated to be his in this mailer ARE largely his positions on a variety of issues. In addition, they are likely to be a net benefit to him in a Republican Primary.

If there is to be any hope for JQ going forward, here's what he needs to do: After reciting his daily affirmation into his medicine cabinet mirror, "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me....", John Quaglione has got to look into that very same mirror and say, "We have met the enemy and they are us....."
Looks like these mailings have caught the eye of law enforcement. Stay tuned.
