For the Dems: Jakey is gone and Ralphie's back

Neither Jake nor Ralph are sweet young things anymore  ---  but as we approach the midpoint of 2018,  it looks like Jake is out and Ralph is in

Jake Gold went from being the youngest member of the Democratic State Committee from Brooklyn to the oldest,  being against CBID before he was for them,  and vice-versa;  Ralph,  well there's almost too much to talk about,  but he remembers when Jim McCarthy was a reform Democrat lined up with Nan Shea  ---   lots of water has passed under the Verrazano since then

Perfetto's first job in 2018 ---  working hard on Ross Barkan to pull out.  Frank S. and Ralph P. have had a chin-wag,  and it looks like they are on the same page AGAINST SSMG.

I'll have more "background" on all of this next week,  since I've been invited as somebody's "Plus-One" to a couple of DEM events.....   After all, with the prospects of a Democrat clean sweep in 2018,  "Independent Republicans" have to do what independent Republicans do best  ---  offer to chair "Republicans for....."

As Charles Dickens once wrote:
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only...."
(From "Tale of Two Cities";  at least for once in your miserable lives you've seen the whole quote  ---  you can thank me later.....)

Jake and Ralph were both done in on the eve of petitioning for re-election. A coincidence?

RESPONSE: THE "AGAIN, I THINK I KNOW WHO YOU ARE..." EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS... AT 10:46 AM"

I DON'T NEED TO LOOK AT THE URL'S FOR SOME COMMENTERS TO >>> KNOW <<< WHO THEY MIGHT BE....
IN THIS INSTANCE, LET ME SAY THAT JAKE, RALPH AND A LONG-TIME DEMOCRAT GADFLY ALL RAN AFOUL OF SOME CBID-AFFILIATED TROUBLE-MAKERS, AT VARYING TIMES AND IN DISPARATE CIRCUMSTANCES
AND I'M SURE THERE WILL BE SOME KIND OF JOINT EFFORT TO "LET'S HELP JAKE" IF THAT MIGHT BECOME NECESSARY

Of course, you jumped on an angle of my main post that means the most to you (what with your sore spot for the NYS AG being used as the personal attorney for those CBID-affiliated trouble-makers)..... That was not MY MAIN ANGLE; so this is a distraction right now.....

But don't worry, old friend, I'll do my bit to publicize the misuse of the AG's office to benefit a certain Park Slope Assemblyman that you seem to know very well..... But, not just yet.....

1974. Gale you have a grasp on Brooklyn history that is impressive for a young man, if in fact you are a man.
I never noticed Jake "Jake the Fake" Gold was elected in the summer of '74. I'm sure nobody else noticed as Jake was useless and eventually got in the way. Jake was always with or not with CBID depending on what time of the day you spoke to him. Bullshit seemed to be the motto of the class of '74.
That was the year the reformers took over the reform movement. It was the year that 3 Assemblyman, Mike Pesce, Frank Barbaro, and, Joe Ferris were elected. I guess the election was "the best of times".
"The worst of times" was what followed. The reformers forgot to do any reform, but, forgetting reform has its benefits. Pesce and Barbaro were given Judgeships by Meade Esposito and Ferris, who was not a lawyer, got to fill his "reform" club CBID with over 20 hacks on some bullshit commission. Not bad for Joe Ferris as prior to his election he was an unemployed substitute school teacher.
So farewell Jake. At least he got a box of cigars and perfume.

"IF [I AM] A MAN..." ??? OMG, IS MY SLIP SHOWING ???
IT DOES RAISE THE QUESTION: "JUST WHO IS GALEWYN MASSEY ???
I KNOW THAT, FOR A WHILE, A FINE YOUNG WOMAN FROM QUEENS THOUGHT THAT >>> SHE <<< WAS GALEWYN MASSEY --- IT TOOK A VERY LONG TIME TO EXORCISE THAT PARTICULAR DEMON --- I ALREADY HAD A FULL HOUSE OF MY OWN DEMONS AND THERE WAS JUST NO ROOM FOR EVEN ONE MORE.....
TOO BAD, SHE WAS ONE OF MY BEST BSIs EVER.....

Thanks for your recollections of '74..... You left out that Brooklyn had three or four Republican Assemblymen until then; and Pat Kenny only narrowly lost in the Carroll Gardens-Red Hook-South Brooklyn District that almost reached out to Bay Ridge.....

But surely, your name must be 'Shirley'!
Besides, you don't think that a name like 'Leslie' is any better, do you?

Clarification is needed on Jim McCarthy and Ralph Pefetto. Yes Mccarthy was elected as Bay Ridges Democratic District leader in '74 and he was ran with the reformers. But there was a reason for that. Bay ridges Congressman Hugh Carey decided to run for Governor and the County bosses all went with Careys opponent Howard Samuels. If you ran with carey it meant you were running with the reformers. Carey was very popular and he swept in a new wave of reformers crippling the boss Meade Esposito.
Perfetto was just gaining a foothold in Bay Ridge and over 40 years later hes the last man standing.
