Bob Capano --- The Reform Party --- AND --- The Brooklyn GOP

Depending on what Bob Capano and Curtis Sliwa do with the Reform Party in Brooklyn in the next year or two,  this might be the biggest change in how the GOP has had to do things since the days of  Nelson Rockefeller, Jacob Javits and John Lindsay Jr.  (btw, there's a Rockefeller Center and a Javits Center, but where is the Lindsay Center ???)

Are the NYS Reform Party, in its various aspects, there to be the un-Cola to the NYS "Conservatives"  ?????

Bob can make himself a bigger deal inside the Brooklyn GOP by being outside of it  ---   than he ever was able to be/do inside of it.   Bob Capano and Curtis Sliwa are in a position to turn lots of things wrt the Brooklyn GOP onto their head(s).....   And one of those things is Jerry Kassar  (as in "It was just one of those things one of those crazy flings..."  -- CP).

Nonetheless,  this whole Reform Party thing is a work in progress.  It remains to be seen how much sophistication and heavy lifting Bob and Curtis can (are willing to) bring to the table vis a vis all the other parties active in Brooklyn and/or statewide.  So, let me give this new dynamic duo some free advice:

First, have very long and serious talks with the likes of Jeffrey Klein, Diane Savino and other key IDC Democrats;

Next, have very long and serious talks with the likes of Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Michael Gianaris and other key members of the Democrat Minority Caucus  (btw, do you see where I'm goin' with this yet ???);

Third (maybe, even a little lower than that), have very long and serious talks with the likes of Ted Ghorra,  Nicole Malliotakis and other key "Brooklyn Republicans"  (Again, do you see where I'm goin' with this yet ???);

Fourth (maybe,  even a little higher than that), have possibly a very short but serious "fuck you and everybody that likes you" talk with the likes of Jerry Kassar,  Fran Vella-Marone and other key Brooklyn "Conservatives"; and

Fifth (and this should definitely be done after the "First" through "Fourth" above have been completed)  have a very long and serious talk with Justin Brannan:  1)  reporting on the results of first four long and serious talks;  and  2)  (and this is both brilliant and appropriate) paying homage and assuring general fealty to Justin Brannan as the one true "Boss of Bay Ridge".....  (>>> NOW <<< do you see where I'm goin' with this  ?????)

--------------------------------

Now, to kick back and enjoy some Sunday football (possible  ---  because the Meadowlands G-men aren't playing today)   !!!!!
BTW,  can I have a Diet 7-Up or a Diet Sprite  ?????
---  No,  not a Diet Coke or Coke Zero,  but a Diet Sierra Mist will do.....

Parties like the reform and independence parties are not going to draw voters because they have no ideology. The Liberal and Conservative parties have a base. Just being the other guy gets you 1%. Bobs race proved that.

Anonymous said...

There's no bigger racket going than the Brooklyn Conservative party. They sold out John and Nicole. It's time people wake up.

Anonymous said...

If a party is a big racket that is selling and people are buying than that party counts. The reform party stands for nothing and has nothing except the rejects from both democrats and republicans.

The New York State Conservative Party was largely established ostensibly and ostentatiously to be a check on Nelson Rockefeller. However, Rockefeller played them like a virtuoso; the biggest and best example being in 1966, when both the Liberal and Conservative Party candidates took enough votes away from the conservative-minded Democrat, Frank D. O'Connor, for Rockefeller to win another term.

The Reform Party will replace the con party placement on the ballot after next year's gov election..bank on it..then they become the most IMPORTANT minor party in bklyn

The Conservative party was formed to move the liberal GOP to the right. They accomplished that.

Anonymous said...

Let Bob and his follower go to the reform party. We have a party and we'll cry if we want to.

Unusual Town Hall by Donovan. He was unfamiliar with everything. Even The Home Reporter bashed him.

Kassar and the Conservative Party were the biggest losers from the election. Why did he pull his support from Quaglione at the end?

Bob Capano will do great things as Brooklyn Reform Party Chairman. It is time that everyone wakes up about #PompousJerryKassar and his political career of self-enrichment. For a so-called "Conservative" he has NEVER had any skin in the game. When did Kassar ever own his own business or receive a paycheck that was not funded by public money? What a joke! #FakeConservative

RESPONSE: THE "CAFFEINE IN THE MORNING" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 3:36 AM" & "RICHARD LUTHMANN... AT 4:38 AM"

MY MAIN POST, IMMEDIATELY ABOVE AND FOLLOWED BY THIS INSTANT COMMENTS THREAD, WAS NOT ABOUT JERRY KASSAR PER SE, EVEN THOUGH SEVERAL OF ITS POINTS DID ALLUDE TO HIM DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY --- HOWEVER, AS IS OFTEN THE CASE, THERE IS A CERTAIN "RORSCHACH TEST" QUALITY TO THESE THINGS ONCE THEY ARE PICKED UP BY MY READER/ COMMENTERS --- AND I AM RESPONDING TO TWO OF THOSE

My gauge on the 2017 General Election showed Jerry Kassar trying to maximize JQ's vote in the only areas where JQ had a clear net advantage: Dyker Heights and the environs around Fort Hamilton HS --- these were also the areas where Bob Capano threatened to make the biggest inroads into JQ's vote. I think that Kassar's "tactic," not "strategy," was to re-target those areas late in the campaign --- of course, that would have been at the expense of several high-vote, but not Republican-Conservative-dominant parts of the 43rd Council District.

However there is a battleground area where I think that the JQ campaign failed miserably. I don't think that JQ was dumped, but his disconnect from Nicole's performance along the northern blocks along and off Shore Road and Ridge Boulevard is remarkable.

The strategic problem for Republicans and Conservatives in the Southwest corner of Brooklyn is a shrinking voter base --- it's all about demographics and hard numbers --- and it might be unsolvable any time soon.....

As for Richard Luthmann, thank you so much for signing in with a real-looking name; I trust that it is actually yours..... Also, thank you for the hashtag >>> #FakeConservative <<< I think we'll be seeing a lot of that tag/ appellation in the future.....

Anonymous said...

Capano & the REform Party exposed Kassar & the Conservatives this past election cycle in political circles and in the media (Julianne Cuba articles, etc.) and it only goes down hill from here.

Gale- yes you are right about demographics and hard numbers, which is why the Brooklyn Reform Party, led by Capano, are well on their way to replace Kassar & conservatives

Anonymous said...

Capano's reform principles are as real as his Brooklyn voter registration.

Anonymous said...

If that is Richard Luthmann above than it means bob has some juice behind him.

Anonymous said...

Capano, Luthmann, and the Reform Party will be a big part of taking down Golden and Kassar and all their hacks for good next year...

You are right..i hear things will be kicking off big time in January

Anonymous said...

I never thought would say this but with McCabe still in hibernation and/or in Queens working for Eric Ulrich and Quaglione demoralized after losing again, and continuing the same job he's had for 20 years, it seems Capano is the only former GOP council candidate getting news still and on the march to be a real player..capano is like a cat, has 9 lives always around and now with Sliwa, Reform Party, and Catsimatidis he is still here

Anonymous said...

I always liked Capano..a straight shooter who works with all..honorable.

Anonymous said...

If top democrats like Marty Markowitz and top republicans like Vito Fossella and Bob Turner like Bob Capano, he can't be that bad

Anonymous said...

I don't know Bob Capano, but if he has Kassar hating him he is ok..

Anonymous said...

Bob betrayed the GOP when he reneged on his commitment to support the winner of the Republican primary. As a result he helped elect someone to the left of de Blasio to represent us. Voters aren't stupid and after his one percent showing there is no rationale to support Bob in anything he does, least of his all his quixotic and bizarre quest to unseat a Republican state senator and hand over the seat to liberal progressives like Andrew and Ross. Meanwhile Bob still can't decide whether to continue the poorly conceived ruse that he lives in Bay Ridge. Bob should end this now before his reputation suffers even more harm than it already has.

Anonymous said...

Check property records..Bob lives in Bay Ridge. Golden and Kassar clearly running scared as they and John Q still blaming Bob for Q loss (see 321 pm comment above)...guess Bob can't be that irrelevant...
Ahahahaha

Anonymous said...

I cant imagine what the world would have been like if Bob actually hit 2%.

Someday Bob get the brass ring !!

Why is Q blaming Bob for his loss on Twitter then?? At 321 pm said

About time someone showed some courage..thank you Bob

John Q carrying on like a sore loser online must be very embarrassing for Marty. Can someone please tap John Q on the shoulder and remind him that he lost?

Are you really going to take advice from failed political hacks like Jim McCall. The Reform Party makes a joke out of reform. There is nothing to it or to "reform." Outerborough interlopers going around with people in halloween costumes pretending to be relevant are not going to do it in Brooklyn. Try your home borough of Staten Island. Triangulating against Conservatives and "fealty" to Justin gets you what exactly? smh---anger or blaming others is just wasting time and your reputation turned to mud.

RESPONSE: THE "JUST MORE ACCESSORY CHARACTERS ON SEINFELD" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 8:29 PM"

BOY, I MUST HAVE REALLY PISSED SOMEBODY OFF WITH MY LINE ABOUT JUSTIN BRANNAN'S BEING: "... THE ONE TRUE 'BOSS OF BAY RIDGE'....."

BTW, I AM NOT SOME "... FAILED POLITICAL HACK[ ] LIKE JIM MC CALL...." --- ALTHOUGH BOTH JIM MC CALL AND I LOOK AND ACT LIKE PUDGIER VERSIONS OF JASON ALEXANDER STRIKING HIS POSES DURING HIS SEINFELD YEARS

That doesn't mean very much, though, because all of us involved in the Brooklyn GOP and the Kings County NYS Conservative Party go around with a lot of George Costanza in us; several among us actually ooze essence of Costanza; you know, the way sheep exude lanolin.....

In fact, for the year 2017, I wouldn't know whether to give the George Costanza award to John Quaglione or Jerry Kassar. --- Right now, from what I am hearing, both of them are intemperately oozing something noxious and gooey; however, the oozing is still about equal.

Anonymous said...

The George Costanza lookalike contest does not include the ruggedly handsome Liam

Anonymous said...

Richard Luthmann is right. The Conservatives talk about smaller govt. but if you as all the Brooklyn Conservative Party members how many of them are on the govt. payroll almost all their hands would go up (if you count Quaglione who was a conservative until last year his hand would obviously be up also)

Anonymous said...

I called Marty Golden office about a dog shitting outside my house and the owner not picking it up..quaglione picked up the phone...all is back to normal in the world..

Anonymous said...

Q is telling people that he interviewed for a private sector job with Vandelay Industries.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Ray Riley will hire john

Anonymous said...

The Brooklyn Conservative party would get a kid fired from McDonalds if they thought they could take the job and give it to one of their members. This was the year that they got exposed as nothing more than a patronage mill.

Anonymous said...

I remember when Mike Long tried to convince an ruggedly handsome friend of mine, who happened to be a Democrat, to try to take over the Brooklyn Liberal Party. It was a two degrees of Chuck Connors moment with "The Duke" (not the football -- John Wayne) looking down from a portrait above the bar.

Hmmmm..i saw Bob Capano having breakfast with Gentile.and Brannan this morning in the back of Brideview..so much for no deals by Capano!!!

Anonymous said...

Brannan and Capano ate a lot I am sure..

They don't matter..

Anonymous said...

Capano like a rat sniffing around for crumbs no doubt. Make a deal- that's reform. Brannan might earnestly be talking to all parties in an attempt at bipartisan good government, "let's get going" first step. Having the pardon Gentile with him may be comforting or may undercut any attempt at good government outreach. A lot of cutting up of people in this blog but the answers, true reform, or making things better for the district and people of New York are not served by this. There really is nothing to the Kassar attacks. You take your wins, your losses and you deal with who is in the game. Everything else is back seat driving or sour grapes. Someone told Bob there didn't seem to be a race for him, so he went anyway and now wants to build something. That's good if you are building and not just trying to tear down, because your gains are not yours but someone else's and you only get those crumbs. Would be nice if everyone got together. As for the constituents or folks who do not want internecine fighting, I guess the current idea is to 'Let them eat cake." Too bad.

Anonymous said...

Capano meets with council members while Q and Kassar are looking for jobs for Jan 2019

Anonymous said...

Has Craig Eaton got any Republicans jobs yet on Brannans staff?????????????????????????????????????????????

Anonymous said...

Keep fighting bob

Anonymous said...

Gale nailed it. Except the part about who is eating cake.

Anonymous said...

The reform party knocked out the WFP by catching them sleeping at the switch. I doubt that will happen again. Gentile got 48% on reform line in BR for DA which only happened because of no other candidate besides incumbent Gonzalez.

If the reform party can snag a candidate for Governor next year like capano anything is possible.

Galewyn Massey said...

RESPONSE: THE "UNKNOWN" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 5:28 PM"

I KIND OF DOUBT THAT YOU ARE REFERRING TO ANYTHING I SAID OR WROTE --- AND I CERTAINLY DIDN'T HAVE ANY "... PART ABOUT WHO IS EATING CAKE...." --- SO, IT'S NOT MY RIGHT, AND NOT MY WRONG EITHER.....

On the other hand "Unknown" was a pretty good suspense film --- and for all I know the commenter "Unknown" might be actor Liam Neeson --- or more likely, somebody else that is similarly ruggedly handsome and with big hands, but more local.....

Anonymous said...

I doubt the reform party will get the 50,000 votes next year to gain permanent ballot status.

Anonymous said...

After next years election the reform party will be the third major party in new york

Anonymous said...

to 8:47 no such thing as three major parties. Just two.

Anonymous said...

1% !!

Aint no stoppin us now

Anonymous said...

The fact that anyone is even talking about Bob's pitiful and embarrassing 1% is only because Jerry's backroom deals selling out his candidates are finally coming to light.

Anonymous said...

1007am

Yes the backroom deals are indeed coming to light...thanks to Bob and the Reform Party!!!!

Anonymous said...

Bob is a non entity, almost everyone involved knew Jerry made deals but this was the year he made it so obvious on several fronts.

Anonymous said...

If you're trying to look into the future of the Reform Party in New York State, and your focus is on Bob Capano, you are looking into the wrong end of the telescope.

Capano's brief and bailiwick will be Brooklyn, which though their largest county, is not the whole of New York, City and/or State.

Anonymous said...

The jig is up with the Conservatives in Brooklyn they have no muscle whatsoever especially after they lost their patronage mill at the DA's office, and even Marty can only hire so many of their memebers up to a point. Dan fed up with them so they will try to double cross him and he will wind up having he last laugh.

Q never had a shot. But he did better than 1%

Anonymous said...

Somebody using "Quaglione" and "cements" in the same sentence was a priceless Freudian slip.

Let's put it like this, if JQ was a tool box he'd only contain a variety of cements and adhesives, but no tools, duct tape or any other kind of tape.

Anonymous said...

JQ is a two-time double loser and toasted done. Put even a slightly less hated Mayor in City Hall, Brannan wins by 20+ points. This was The Year to put the seat back in our column and JQ blew it; that's all there is to it. Capano and the zombie on Cuomo's WEP line were irrelevant. JQ running around these days like he's still on the campaign trail is pathetic

Anonymous said...

Brannan won because of the Mayor convincing all of his union buddies to support him. Without the unions, the concon and the pouring rain Justin is toast, and could easily lose this seat four years from now.

Anonymous said...

This to shall pass

Anonymous said...

I feel bad for Q..the latest him and his campaign team are saying on Twitter is that with the absentee ballots counted and Q narrowing loss to 794 votes, with Capanos 355 votes most or all would have went to Q making loss less than 450 votes and would have triggered automatic recount by BOE..
Also saying Capano running to right of Q caused many other not to pull lever for Q costing him winning out right..

Sad

Anonymous said...

Bob. Nobody cares.

Anonymous said...

Will Quaglione really risk being a THREE TIME LOSER? I hope somebody talks some sense into him before making that mistake

Anonymous said...

I see Q is back ridin shotgun with Marty and taggin along to movie sets with him. It is almost as if Q's second epic loss was all just a dream. Marty is Batman and Q is back to being Robin and all's right in the district again. The End.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous at 2:34 AM, even if that were true, it would still not be enough to warrant a recount at the elections board. To trigger a recount the margin needs to be one-tenth of 1%

My advice is JQ shouldn't waste any more time Tilting at windmills. Sit down with Bob Capano and make piece

Anonymous said...

Sad and pathetic that Bob is still trying to remain relevant in Brooklyn after all these years. He lost in landslides in the two races he ran then headed to Staten Island for greener pastures yet could hardly qualify for County Committee. After six years came back to Brooklyn to try to run for City Council got trounced again in the Primary then reneged on his commitment to help the Republican win stayed in the race got 1% and is now running around like anybody gives a rats tail that he is part of the Reform party.

Anonymous said...

Q has already vowed revenge on Capano and Eaton
