NOW IT’S REAL: Bob Capano’s Opposition to Bags Fees Hits Television

Bob Capano has appeared in two television news reports about the proposed plastic and paper bags fee ordinance – likely to be passed as early as tomorrow

In City Council Testimony ---  Capano complains about proposed city ordinance that will cost New Yorkers in both time and money

____________________________

CAPANO APPEARED ON EYEWITNESS NEWS TONITE

According to ABC print report on this story:  “It looks like you'll soon be charged for every plastic bag you use at the grocery store….   A New York City Council committee voted to recommend a five cent fee, but protesters are making their voices heard…. It's a proposed law that has been talked about for more than two years, giving people a financial incentive to switch over to reusable bags at grocery stores….   The law took a big step toward reality Wednesday, with passage likely Thursday….  (See “Plastic bag fee could be passed in New York City Thursday” by Rob Nelson, 5/4/16,  Eyewitness News/ abc7New York  [http://abc7ny.com/politics/plastic-bag-fee-could-be-passed-in-new-york-city-thursday/1323510/][with link to video report that appeared on Eyewitness News program]).

The Nelson article for ABC News also noted that  “Critics, though, worry about both the financial and logistical impact of the move.”  No doubt, that line refers to part of Rob Nelson’s on screen interview with Bob Capano, which was broadcast on  the ABC News Eywitness News program earlier this evening.

CAPANO APPEARED ON WPIX LAST NITE

Bob Capano also appeared on a segment of the Channel 11 (WPIX-TV) news at 10:00 last night.  On air, Bob Capano talked about the upcoming City Council vote on the Viverito- Lander bill, saying that would impose a five cent fee on bags at retail stores and supermarkets.

LATE REPORT ON  “J*P UPDATES”

Capano also continued to get his word out in other mediums. Earlier today this appeared in an article on the “JP Updates” blog:  “….  Bob Capano, who is a store manager for a Gristedes supermarket, announced on Tuesday that he was moving toward a run for the city council to represent the 43rd district. He is a vocal opponent of the proposed bill, saying it will cost New Yorkers more time in lines at retail registers as well as money….  ‘Regarding the money aspect, according to the bill, if businesses do not charge a nickel for each bag, they will be fined by the city. So, as we fulfill the requirement of this legislation, it will be literally an example of nickel and diming New Yorkers. As we all know, it already costs too much to live in New York City. These nickels add up, especially for seniors, those on fixed incomes, and middle-class New Yorkers just trying to make ends meet,” Capano told JP in an email. “This bill should not be recycled as it was by reducing the fee from 10 cents to five cents — it should be trashed.’…  Capano will be testifying against the legislation at the hearing on Wednesday….” (See City Council to Hear Bill Proposal Imposing 5-Cent Bag Fee for New Yorkers” by Chris Cruz, 5/4/16, J*P Updates [http://jpupdates.com/2016/05/04/city-council-to-hear-bill-proposal-imposing-5-cent-bag-fee-for-new-yorkers/]).

RESPONSE & UPDATE: THE “BAGS ARE TAKING-OFF” EDITION

TO: “ANONYMOUS SAID… MAY 4, 2016 AT 11:32 PM”

BROOKLYN REPUBLICAN CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE BOB CAPANO FINDS MEDIA GOLD IN PLASTIC & PAPER BAGS

--- TV HOST SAYS BOB CAPANO’S A “GREAT GUY” ---

WITH MORE CAPANO RADIO & TV INTERVIEWS SCHEDULED FOR LATER TODAY

“… And the beat goes on La-di-dah-di-dah….” Greg Kelly on Good Day NY on Channel 5 TV mentioned Bob Capano’s opposition to the proposed NYC shopping bag fee --- and Greg Kelly said Bob C was a “… great guy…"

AND --- That kind of stuff ain’t stopping any time soon either.

I got this E-mail from Bob about a half hour ago: “Friends… I will be on the Channel 2 news at 12 noon today opposing the City Council bag "tax" that they are voting on later at City Hall. Please also tune in to 1010 wins as they are playing my position on this issue as well throughout the day….”

So what was somebody saying about “… gonna take off …” ????

So lets see so far over past week Capano has been on WABC radio, 1010 WINS, channel 11, channel 7,channel 5, channel 2 and local newspapers with probably more to come. Many said he is expected City Council in Brooklyn's 43rd district. .capano seems like he has media and political consultants already on board..guess the bag thing take off..

... and the "new faces" in the Brooklyn GOP running against Bob Capano for the City council nomination are ... [crickets] and those "new faces" in the Brooklyn GOP have been in he news about... [even more crickets, & some frogs & toads too]

What do you mean? John Q is busy on the back bench writing press releases for Marty Golden, and Liam McCabe is well, probably doing more things that his boss doesnt know about..hey, as long he does not add to his list of negative stories, hes ahead of the game.

Anonymous said...

My fav was the TV station that referred to him as Dan Capuno.

Let me tell ya: ferget the City Council, this bag thing is going to catapult Bob straight into Congress!

Anonymous said...

Now, we get it. Some of us had this all backwards, we thought it was the Golden crowd that was pushing the "new faces" line. Now, it looks like it might have been Bob Capano's guys all along. The latest "new face" Dan Capuno looks an awful lot like the old Bob Capano.

Maybe you should watch and read this on channel 2..Bob Capano comes out pretty clear to me

UPDATE: THE "AND NOW THIS" EDITION

BOB CAPANO ISSUES STATEMENT FOLLOWING PASSAGE OF SHOPPING BAGS FEE LAW BY NYC COUNCIL

Statement from Gristedes Supermarket Manager & Potential Brooklyn GOP City Council Candidate Bob Capano on the NYC Council Passage of the Bag Fee -- May 5, 2016:
"Passage of ridiculous legislation like this, further inclines me to run for the City Council in Brooklyn next year. The nickel and diming of New Yorkers has to end, and the City Council can't continue to pass legislation isolated in their bubble at City Hall without understanding its impact out in the real world. In this case, beginning October 1st, it will cost New Yorkers more time and money as cashiers at retail stores will have to literally count each and every bag used for customers to know how much to add on to their bill. This law will lead to longer lines as people just want to get home to their families as quickly as possible after working all day, and take more money out of their pockets. These nickels will add up, especially for seniors, those on fixed incomes, and middle-class New Yorkers just trying to make ends meet. When New Yorkers feel the direct impact of this legislation, I expect those Council Members who voted for it today to face serious primary and general election challenges next year."

"Gee, I wonder what Bob Capano thinks about this?" said nobody ever.

I am really starting to worry about Capano.

The kid was BLOWN OUT by 40 POINTS against Brook-Krasny. He was then handed his second straight election loss when Gentile beat him with 60 POINTS!

Did Capano not get the message?

Anonymous said...

In all fairness Capano lost by 35 to Brook Krasny and 21 to Gentile. This is still much better than the shellacking blowout suffered by Quaglione. As much as GM fantasizes about Capano moving back to Brooklyn and making a successful run or how the Conservatives hope to leverage Quaglione or McCabe into a deal with the Democrats, there are a couple of new faces looking at making a run and are taking a wait and see approach no one is in a hurry there is a plenty of time but the prevailing sentiment is that the days of Golden and the LaGuardia Club alternating their loser candidates are over. No one is going to show their cards because Capano was briefly on the news talking about plastic bags.

RESPONSE & UPDATE: THE "GM FANTASIZES ABOUT CAPANO MOVING BACK TO BROOKLYN..." EDITION

TO: "ANNONYMOUS SAID... MAY 5, 2016 AT 5:49 PM"

BOBBY C. HASN'T MOVED YET --- BUT HE IS MAKING MOVES

I have occasionally engaged in and/or been consumed by fantastic ideation; however, my expectations concerning Bob Capano's triumphal return to his home borough of Brooklyn is not in that category.

I have it on very good authority that Mr. Capano has formed and registered a political organization called >>> "Bob for Brooklyn..."

A source close to BC told me that they saw some IRS forms containing that name.... A direct question to the prospective candidate was "confirmed" by an obvious E-mail non-denial.... Plus this, contained in a segment of that E-mail: "... [I] Have not notified anyone else yet... you could report [it] first if [you] want... do [what] you think..."

Well, I'm pretty sure Capano hasn't moved back to Brooklyn yet..... But, I'm equally sure that he is making moves in that direction.

Sad if true. Quaglione lost to Gentile in 2013 so he has first right of refusal to be the Republican clodpoll who loses again in 2017.

A quick check of online registrations shows no evidence of this "Bob for Brooklyn" account/organization.

I am sure Liam McCabe is happy about grimm being out, they can get a few drinks together. .oops better not, neither one wants more negative stories.

I live in Dyker Heights where we form a strong foundation of Republicans and conservatives in this area. I saw Capano on NY1 last night bashing this bag tax and saw him on some other TV stations also. From what I have seen on this blog, and seen in the newspapers and on TV this Capano is the only one speaking up for us not just on this new tax on bags but also about suppoorting cops. I have not seen any other of the possible city council candidates- either who ran before or "new" anywhere. So it seems they are either silent and dont care, or noone cared what they have to say and not publicly covering. We need a city council member who will not only stick up for us but also who get rally public attention- it seems capano is the only one meeting that standard.

Did any of that comment seem REAL to anybody?

BOB, IS THAT YOU?

Anonymous said...

I live in bensonhurst and completely agree with 5:15am

Anonymous said...

Bob may not even run it is still early. No matter what happens we can't let Team Golden make deal with Abbate.

Anonymous said...

you people really have to get a grip-- all this capano stuff is probably being pushed by people who have ZERO influence in the Brooklyn GOP anymore (Gallo, Eaton, etc.)..
Golden has already said it will not be capano..

Anonymous said...

To 10:05 above and you people need a reality check. Golden's grip on the Brooklyn GOP weakens by the day the days when he could make or break a candidacy are long over. With each passing day and his immature staff alienate more and more Republicans, regardless of who or how many jump into the Primary, next year is going to be a lot of fun.

UPDATE: THE "BOB CAPANO FEATURED ON CABLE-VISON CALL-IN SHOW" EDITION

BOB CAPANO WAS A FEATURED AS "THE FIRST CALL" ON JOHN SCHIUMO'S 5/6/16 EPISODE OF "THE CALL" ON TIME-WARNER CABLE'S NEWS STATION NY1

Capano is hot-hot-hot !!!

Last night he was the lead caller on the NY1 program, "The "Call" (See "The Call 5/6/16" hosted by John Schiumo, 5/6/16, NY1/ The Call [http://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/shows/2016/05/7/the-call-5-6-16.html]).

It looks like Capano is becoming THE FACE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY >>> ACROSS ALL OF BROOKLYN >>> AND >>> ACROSS ALL MEDIUMS

Anonymous said...

GM. The first caller? Wow! Amazing! Thank you for letting us know about this stunning development sure to change most of our minds about Bob Capano.

Actually it was a 15 minute interview discussing the issue, and the host referred to him as a " Brooklyn City Council Candidate" next year with his photo and name plastered on the TV screen..

RESPONSE & BACKFILL: THE "BOB CAPANO FEATURED ON CABLE-VISON CALL-IN SHOW -- REVISITED" EDITION

LET ME BE CLEAR ABOUT THIS: BOB CAPANO WAS FEATURED IN >>> A SEGMENT <<< OF JOHN SCHIUMO'S 5/6/16 EPISODE OF "THE CALL" ON TIME-WARNER CABLE'S NEWS STATION NY1 --- THAT SEGMENT WAS REFERRED TO AS "THE FIRST WORD" [NOT AS EARLIER STATED BY ME, "THE FIRST CALL"]

The lengthy segment included an interview with Bob Capano, graphics, including Capano's photograph & job title, that clearly high-lighted Bob Capano as the interviewee, and video tape related to the content of Capano's cable TV interview.

The necessary information as to "The Call" program is correctly cited above; however, it should be noted that the cited material does include a video link, which is not mentioned.

This kid Capani doesn't stand a chance. He's not active in the community, nobody knows him...does he even have a degree?! What a joke, this is why Republicans never win in Brooklyn. Trump proves we need candidates who've accomplished something in their life.

Anonymous said...

I have an idea, lets commission a poll next week of republican voters between mccabe, quaglione, capano, ghorra, and whatever "new faces" and agree whoever wins that we all support? ????

Anonymous said...

To 4:12 above - They aren't all ready to declare they are candidates.

Anonymous said...

That is a valid point, but if the goal is for a republican to actually win this council seat, and i assume that is the goal of the commenters above. If its not thats a bigger problem. . But why cant we agree that whoever polls the best today should be our candidate to give us the best chance to win then we can all work over the next year plus for them so others dont have to unnessarily "declare" ???

Anonymous said...

Can we skip all this senseless chatter?

Justin Brannen will be the next councilman.

Anonymous said...

Only if one of the usual losers being prodded by GM and Marty Golden get the nomination, then yes Justin or anyone else the Democrats put up will win. I suggest Phylis Carbo, she has much more energy than Bob, she's sharper than John, and far more well liked than anyone on Eaton's crew!

Anonymous said...

GM
I just saw an ad by capano in the Bay Ridge Courier this morning on the bag tax. You seem to be in the know on all things Capano, who is working for him politically? Designing his ads, getting him TV and radio spots. Is it Catsamatidis and his political operation or what?

Galewyn Massey said...

RESPONSE: THE "I DON'T KNOW WHAT I KNOW" EDITION

WHO & WHAT I KNOW ABOUT BOB CAPANO & HIS TEAM IS NOT RELEVANT

I get my information on this line of inquiry like every other..... I hear things, I see things, I read things..... Then I make calls or E-mail for more information..... Then I decide WHAT I WANT TO SAY ABOUT ANY OF IT.....

Anonymous said...

Capano could not have put Gristedes and hinself with Gristedes in the mass media over the past week without John Cats explicit approval- and support. Thats the corporate world a rep for a business can not run a rogue media operation.

Anonymous said...

Justin is looking more like a winner each day.

He has that Chester Arthur look going for him

Anonymous said...

Justin would be lucky to get out of the Primary even against Kevin Peter Carroll. Andrew Gounardes trying to find a way in without infuriating Justin. Of course Abbate looms in the background. Sadly any one of these clowns will be the favorite against anyone the GOP nominates old face new fave or whatever.

UPDATE: THE “RE-CYCLED SHOPPING BAGS” EDITION

IN BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE: CAPANO CALLS ON MAYOR DE BLASIO TO VETO SHOPPING BAG FEE BILL --- WHILE OTHERS JOIN THE FIGHT

CAPANO KEEPS RACKING-UP THE EARNED MEDIA

According to a Paula Katinas article in the Brooklyn Eagle, opposition to the 5-cent plastic bag fee is building. The Katinas article indicated that Bob Capano’s fight against the five-cent per bag is getting reinforcements in the form of some Democratic legislators from Brooklyn including: State Sen. Simcha Felder (D- Borough Park-Midwood) and Assemblymember Dov Hikind (D – Borough Park) ; and in addition, Assemblymember Michael Cusick (D-Staten Island) proposed legislation that would prevent the city from imposing the shopping bags fee (See “Opposition to 5-cent plastic bag fee building” by Paula Katinas, 5/9/16, Brooklyn Daily Eagle [http://www.brooklyneagle.com/articles/2016/5/9/opposition-5-cent-plastic-bag-fee-building]).

In addition to a photograph of Brooklyn Bob Capano, the Katinas article quoted Capano; and here’s what Paula Katinas said about Bob: “…. Bob Capano, a former Bay Ridge resident who manages an Upper East Side Gristedes, called on de Blasio to veto the council bill…. ‘With the vast news coverage of this bill, New Yorkers are now fully informed and their opposition is building. Many of my customers have been slamming this additional tax over the past several days. Mayor de Blasio now has an opportunity to display real leadership and veto this bill that would cost shoppers more money and time at retail stores throughout our city beginning Oct. 1,’ Capano told the Brooklyn Eagle in an email….”

CAPANO’S “EARNED MEDIA” GROWS BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS BECAUSE OF HIS OPPOSITION TO THE SHOPPING BAGS FEE MANDATE

The Paula Katinas article cited above certainly demonstrates that Bob Capano has completely lapped any of his potential GOP competitors for the GOP line for the City Council seat now held by Democrat Vincent Gentile.

On the issue of his opposition to the mandatory shopping bags fee alone, Capano has repeatedly spoken out and/or been mentioned in the following communications mediums: E-mail, Twitter, Facebook, local newspapers, city-wide newspapers, radio news broadcasts, TV news broadcasts and cable vision news.

Anonymous said...

GM
Get ready for the capano detractoes to say noone reads newspapers, watches TV, listens to the radio or goes on the internet in the 43rd district in brooklyn.

Anonymous said...

Capano doesn't even live in Bay Ridge and he hasn't for over six years. Barely got on County Committee in Staten Island and now he is trying to find a way to stay relevant.

Anonymous said...

Seems to be working..ahahahahaah

Anonymous said...

Yes the Staten Island resident who works on the Upper East Side now complaining about bag fee is going to have such a targeted resonance with Bay Ridge residents. Every other local elected official in this area has also been outspoken about the bag fee. The most traction he has gotten is articles from Paula Katinas who would write a lengthy article about water coming out of a sink if asked to.

Anonymous said...

I guess channel 7, channel 9, 1010 WINS, 77WABC radio , NY 1 and a host of other newspapers and blogs dont count..
Ahahahahahahah

Anonymous said...

Almost no one in the District remembers who Bob Capano is and every elected official has come out strongly against the bag tax. 15 seconds of coverage from every single channel on TV is not going to change that.

Anonymous said...

Always an excuse!!!
Hahahah

Anonymous said...

Everywhere I go around the neighborhood people are talking about Bob Capano and his vanguard stance on the bag tax. I was the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker today but I had to come home by 4:00 pm because Shore Hill serves dinner at 4:30 and then I have to watch my progrums.

Anonymous said...

Who wipes your ass, blots your drool and types for you on your computer?

Anonymous said...

Lots of envy and jealously here!!
Ahahahah

Anonymous said...

Lots of desperation to prop up a candidate who almost no one remembers, lost by huge margins each time he ran and not only lives outside the district where he is planning to run but in a different borough as well.

Anonymous said...

Always the same tired talking points..oh wait when same old talking points used against someone shows that they are the real front runner..
Ahahahahah

Anonymous said...

Desperation rearing its ugly head again...no one knows who is Bob Capano and no one cares...oh wait was that Bob walking by the NY1 Camera on his way home to Staten Island? He was on the air for a second, this shows major momentum for Bob, Bob is getting a lot of free publicity, Bob is the front runner. Now that is hilarious.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "BOB CAPANO ON THE CASE" EDITION

DATE LINE -- BROOKLYN: BOB CAPANO WARNS THAT AT LEAST ONE CITY AGENCY IS "EAGER" TO FINE BUSINESSES UNDER THE SHOPPING BAG FEES LAW
___________________________

BOB POINTS-OUT THAT --

"NYC Dept. of Consumer Affairs Publicly Says It Will be 'Proud' to Enforce Plastic Bag Fee.... First Deputy Commissioner Says DCA 'Proud' to Fine Businesses for Non-Compliance of Bag Fee Law...."
___________________________

Here are some additional excerpts from the remainder of GOP City Council Candidate Robert Capano's latest press release on the issue:

(Brooklyn, NY) – At a sparsely publicized Mayoral public hearing this week on the City Council's bag fee bill, Intro. 209-A, Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) First Deputy Commissioner Alba Pico said, 'DCA is proud to be one of the agencies charged with enforcing' the law. Bob Capano, a Gristedes Supermarket Manager who has been a leading opponent of the bill, said this comment demonstrates the city's eagerness to fine businesses for non-compliance of the law to raise revenue....

Capano, an adjunct political science professor who has said he is inclined to run for City Council in Brooklyn next year because of this bill said, 'It is amazing that the Department of Consumer Affairs would publicly admit how "proud" they are to fine businesses for not charging their customer for each bag. New Yorkers and my customers would be proud to shop without an additional fee being added to their bill, and businesses would be proud to not have to deal with additional city fines and regulations.' According to the bill, businesses would be fined up to $500 for each violation...."
