Jerry Kassar’s view of “Democracy” — Very similar to Chavez', Ortega’s, Assad’s, and the Castros’

Ump-teenth re-election of his party’s vice chairperson as president of the Dyker Heights Civic Association shows Kassar’s view of  “...Democracy in action.”

Kassar also preens about “...Colleen and Marty Golden’s Christmas Party...”

Jerry Kassar’s Christmas Week column in the Home Reporter opened with this: “Congratulations to Fran Vella-Marrone who was re-elected president of the Dyker Heights Civic Association ....  I was the president in 1988 and 1989. In 1992, Fran was elected president and has been ever since....” (See “Common Sense: Democracy in action” by Jerry Kassar, 12/23/13, Home Reporter/Sunset News [http://www.homereporternews.com/news/opinion/common-sense-democracy-in-action/article_2dd4989e-6c34-11e3-a2e9-0019bb2963f4.html]).

Who else thinks that the "president for life" formula is the most perfect form of democracy ? That's right, people like Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chavez, Hafez al-Assad and Bashar al-Assad, Fidel and Raoul Castro, Vladimir Putin, and generations of North Korean leaders with "IL" somewhere in their names. What more needs to be said about Kassar's notions about the democratic ideal ?

Oh, yes  —  on another, though closely related point, Kassar just had to mention the very successful politically-oriented Christmas Party that was thrown by Marty Golden at the home of his family business, The Bay Ridge Manor.

______________________

For the uninitiated: Jerry Kassar is State Senator Martin Golden’s Chief of Staff and is the Chairman of the Kings County Conservative Party; Fran Vella-Marrone is the Vice-chairperson of the Kings County Conservative Party; both the (‘non-partisan”) Dyker Heights Civic Association and the Bay Ridge Manor (a private business) regularly function as subsidiary PR arms of the Marty Golden political machine in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights.

We know who Kassar is.
You write about him more than the Post writes about Spitzer.

Term limits, "Regime Change" and primaries are all related in one way or another.

I remember a wise comment-maker once said this:

"The real "in the weeds" "take-away" here is that Republican voters had a chance to see what a GOP Primary race in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bath Beach with MARTY GOLDEN up against a real social conservative Republican like Lucretia Regina-Potter might look like. That's because most of what the mailing and phone banks for Tom McCarthy talked about was: "Marty Golden...." -- "Marty Golden calling...." -- "Marty Golden says...." -- "Marty Golden supports ...." -- "Marty Golden wants you to vote...." -- "Marty Golden...." -- "Marty Golden...." -- "Marty Golden...." Okay, we get it !!! Okay, so State Senator Martin Golden won that Republican Primary 2 to 1, let’s see how he does next time, possibly with his own name on a GOP primary ballot.

Right now, with this new benchmark on State Senator Martin Golden --- about 1/3rd of Republicans are against him. (Remember in 2010 just over 1/3rd of ALL voters were against him; in November 2012 that number will certainly go up.)"

Very well played, sir !

Your logic is almost impeccable. Your unstated premise is that the numbers moved against Golden in 2012, when Steve Gounardes, the Democrat candidate moved the Democrat number north of forty percent (40%). You are probably correct in assuming that Golden's GOP numbers are probably moving along a parallel line in the same direction.

However, it's not clear that either Lucretia Regina-Potter or Tom McCarthy would be interested or available to run against State Senator Golden in a GOP primary in 2014.

The numbers also moved against Golden in the 2013 races. His endorsement was toxic.

In a general election I agree the Golden endorsement was a killer.
A Republican primary is different.
Whats needed is one solid liberal issue Republican voters are united in defeating Golden on..

You sound like Mickey Rooney telling Judy Garland "Let's put on a show in the barn."

Now, if you were Gene Kelly, maybe I'd buy it.

Everythings a joke to you.

I'm smart. I got ideas . .

Golden is toxic...look at his Republicans For Change stats.....Tim "Hot Dog" Cochrane lost; Testverde got 19%; Storobin 38%?; Quaglione 35% (the best margin by Gentile ever!!!........

UPDATE: THE “JERRY KASSAR’S VIEW OF ‘FREE SPEECH’ — VERY SIMILAR TO ... ” EDITION

Another week has passed and Jerry Kassar’s column was made new one more time, this time called, “Common Sense: A New Year” ( See “Common Sense: A New Year” by Jerry Kassar, 12/30/13, Home Reporter/ Sunset News [http://www.homereporternews.com/opinion/common-sense-a-new-year/article_391a2b82-71a8-11e3-a83f-001a4bcf887a.html]). Catchy title, I wonder how he came up with that. In any case, most of it is the kind of pure drivel one expects from Kassar’s columns lately, and those parts are not really worthy of comment.

Something that cannot pass without comment, however, is Kassar’s rather totalitarian view on America’s most sacrosanct freedom — our right to free speech. His three paragraphs related to that subject are so full of misstatement and error, I hardly know where to begin....

Let’s go straight to Kassar’s conclusion — “They [some atheists who did a billboard by the Goethals Bridge and by implication anybody else that contributed to the billboard] are entitled to their opinion — an opinion I strongly urge them to keep to themselves.” The meaning of that compound statement is completely contradictory; and more important, it does not recognize the right of free speech in any way.

Free speech is all about expression; it’s not about the opinion(s) that might actually be held by anybody. All that Kassar has to say about the expression(s) of these atheists is “...I strongly urge them to keep [them] to themselves.”

What Kassar needs to do is look in a mirror and ask himself if he believes at all in any notions of freedom.
