Why does Congressman Michael Grimm have to spend so much $$$ on legal fees?

Nick Reisman posted an item earlier this evening on the YNN Capital Tonight Blog that said Grimm's reported legal bills have more than doubled since his June 2012 filings. Those fees now reach to a currently reported $677,966

According to Reisman's reporting in Capital Tonight,  the Washington, D.C.-based law firm of  Patton Boggs  has  represented Congressman Grimm in an ongoing FBI investigation involving Grimm's campaign fundraising.  The investigation includes looking into an allegation that Grimm's  2010 campaign used an Israeli national to raise money from a synagogue as well as straw donors.

The Huffington Post has reported that an internal  House of Representatives'  Ethics panel voted to investigate Grimm in November, but then decided to defer to the Justice Department’s ongoing investigation of Grimm's fundraising activities, while retaining its own jurisdiction in the matter.

It long since had been reported that the FBI was investigating money donated to Grimm's 2010 campaign by followers of an Israeli rabbi; and that last summer agents arrested an Israeli businessman with reported links to the adult entertainment industry.  That Israeli businessman allegedly had helped Grimm raise hundreds of thousands of dollars from the rabbi's followers.

Congressman Grimm has steadfastly denied having any role in illegal activities of any sort.

This is no more than an update on an old story that came out long before the elections for this year.
Everybody knew about it, the TIMES and STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE beat it all to death, and Murphy and the rest of Democrats sent out more mail about it than anybody needed filling their mail boxes.

Michael was re-elected with a bigger percentage of the vote than the first time in 2010. So get over it.

Politico has reported that Congressman Grimm's campaign made an amended filing, in which the amount due on legal expenses was changed from the number mentioned in this post (about $678K) to $550K.
