Look at what passes for "Criminal Justice" in 21st Century America.....
Openings by both sides seemed to track what was said at the earlier trial --- but then the older and much-whiter-than-it really-should-be-jury heard some really non-probative and very prejudicial emotion-laden "testimony" from both of Karina Vetrano's parents --- they could only have actual detailed knowledge about their daughter's murder if they were directly involved in it, somehow.....
Suh ev'n aftah only a cupplah days, a blahnd sqwhirl won't gottah dig tuh much tuh find dat duh man say dat dis niggah, Chanel, gunnah get lynched hah dis tahm-uh-round.....
In addition to adding in an appearance by an overought mom, the one and only Catherine Vetrano, the Queens County prosecution team led by Brad Leventhal added even more spice to the stew he is cooking up and feeding to the very white older-than-the-first-time jurors "serving" on the second trial of Chanel Lewis --- this time throwing in some phone recordings by the seemingly distraught dad, Phil Vetrano.....
Police witnesses testified how they "secured" the "crime scene" out in the weeds next to Howard Beach --- but everybody knows that was after they let Phil Vetrano and "a cast of thousands" [only slightly exaggerated] stomp all over the area "looking" for the missing Karina Vetrano for hours, before Phil himself found her himself and man-handled her body way off the beaten path.....
Next up, the professional witnesses from the OCME to spin-spin-spin their ersatz-non-scientific mumbo-jumbo DNA "evidence" that Judge Lance Ito, oops I mean Michael Aloise, should not be letting in as evidence, since he should be bound by the the most recent rulings of the App. Div. for the Second Department..... Believe me, this ain't no harmless error by the most overturned "Justice" on the Queens bench.
SCARY STUFF, KIDS !!!!!

This trial seems like a bad NY Post story. What is the point of having the grieving parents testify? We believe the girl is dead. Do we convict Chanel Lewis to make the parents feel better?
I watched the video of the supposed confession by Chanel Lewis. He thought the prosecutor was his lawyer.
Ulrich always wins
The NY Post coverage of Catherine Vetrano's 'testimony' was a bad NY Post story, almost as bad as the one saying that there was a new judge for the retrial of Chanel Lewis.
More evidence not related to the murder of Karina Vetrano was introduced on Thursday.
The first came from a 'witness' named Angelo Gurino, who is a 'neighbor' of the Vetrano's in Howard Beach. Gurino testified that he called 911 in May of 2016, almost two whole months before the murder of Karina Vetrano, and he made his 911 report about 'a suspicious person standing on the corner, looking at [his] house.' He then identified the defendant, Chanel Lewis, as that person. He also testified that Lewis was not carrying anything, and that he was only 'wandering around', and that he eventually sat himself down on the curb. Gurino also testified that he followed Lewis; that the NYPD were dispatched; and Lewis was questioned and released without charges.
Gurino's 911 call was played in court, and Gurino is heard identifying the man as black with a white hooded sweatshirt, and wearing dark pants. "Right now, he's sitting on the curb," Gurino said on the recording and, "He doesn't belong there."
The next witness to testify as police lieutenant John Russo, another neighbor who testified that he remembered Chanel Lewis' having been in Howard Beach months before the Karina Vetrano murder. According to reports at the time, it was Lieutenant John Russo's recollection, many months into the police investigation of the Karina Vetrano murder that led the NYPD to settle upon Chanel Lewis as their prime suspect.
No one cares

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "IT'S STILL THE SAME OLD STORY" EDITION
"HERO DETECTIVE" WHO BROKE THE KARINA VETRANO MURDER CASE STICKS TO THE SAME INCREDIBLE STORY
Det. Lieut. John Russo came into court and repeated the same BS as he spewed in the first Chanel Lewis trial. He said that he saw Chanel Lewis looking suspicious, but couldn't tell whether he was a young black man.
He also said that Lewis was not arrested, because he wasn't doing anything wrong. He also mentioned that police took Lewis to a McDonald's in Rockaway --- no doubt where he left plenty of contact DNA on the cups, wrappers and utensils, which might come in handy later on to prove a case when the police did want to charge Lewis with something.....
What Russo didn't explain was why he didn't think about Chanel Lewis as a suspect much closer to the time of Karina Vetrano's murder in August 2016, but didn't think about Lewis until December.
No one cares..Ulrich will be queens BP
So let me get this straight… The NYPD decided not to arrest Chanel Lewis because he didn’t commit a crime when he was temporarily detained and transported to a McDonald's in Rockaway, presumably for his own convenience. With Chanel innocent of any criminal activity, the NYPD then had the foresight to stick around, watch Chanel eat (do we even know if he ordered anything?), observe where he threw out his trash, dumpster dive to obtain said trash and then store it for a rainy day for when a potential murder might occur in the marsh lands of Howard Beach where Chanel was known to frequent… Having this DNA sample of Chanel in hand and foaming at the mouth for the chance to use it, the NYPD then waited several months after the murder to finally detain him when they presumably knew his DNA was planted on the victim's body all along. Seems legit.
Maybe, it's a little far-fetched, but not much more than John Russo's story.
BTW, don't forget that Russo also just happened to bump into Lewis in Rockaway that night in May 2016, supposedly while was taking the family out to eat. That McDonald's in Rockaway sure seems to do a lot of 'cop business'.
Russo was probably there to pick up a package of Chanel Lewis's 'cups, wrappers and utensils' that Gail was talking about, but Russo was surprised that his future patsy was still there from when the beat cops left him earlier.
