Supreme Court Overturns Roe v. Wade --- removes notion of constitutional protection for abortion

Supreme Court upholds law from Mississippi that bans abortion after 15 weeks  ---  Court's decision also opened door to broader prohibitions on abortion procedures

In its own way, the U.S. Supreme Court is now part of the winds of change sweeping America

The U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 ruling backed by its conservative majority, upheld a Republican-backed Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. Beyond that, by a 5-4 vote the Court overturned Roe v.Wade completely [with conservative Chief Justice John Roberts concurring only in part, but writing separately to say he would have upheld the Mississippi law, without going so far as to erase the Roe v. Wade precedent altogether].    

It's likely that reverberations of this ruling by the current Supreme Court will be felt far beyond the court's judicial sphere  >>>   potentially reshaping the environemnt for this November's congressional elections.  

Togehter with yesterday's decision to overturn the NYS law on "concealed carry permits" for handguns, it also would seem to signal a new openness by the current crop of Supreme Court Justices to weigh-in and change long held precedent on other perceived constitutional rights. 

Conversely, these decisions will also intensify the debate over the legitimacy of this somewhat Trump-appointed majority court.  Once an unassailable cornerstone of the American democratic system, the present majority of Suprem Court Justices has been  increasingly under scrutiny for its more aggressively conservative decisions on a range of issues.

Supreme Court says that New York had gone way overboard in encroaching 2nd Amendment individual gun rights as citizens under the U.S. Constitution

The NYS "Sullivan Law"  ---  and almost 100 years of consistent court cases sustaining it in the NYS and federal courts has been knocked into a cocked hat

Anti-gun advocates, and Democrats generally, are shocked by the U.S. Supreme Court's 6-3 decision striking down the New York State law limiting access to concealed carry permits

The Supreme Court struck down the New York State gun law regulating concealed carry in one of the biggest gun rights cases ever.....  This was a very closely-watched case that addressed whether New York state's concealed carry law violates the Second Amendment..... New York State Rifle & Pistol Asso­ci­ation Inc. v Bruen  is the most significant case regarding  Second Amendment rights, since the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the right to bear arms with its 2010 decision that had found Chicago, Illinois' nearly 30-year ban on handgun ownership unconstitutional.

New York had been one of eight states, as well as the District of Columbia, that have restrictive so-called "may issue" concealed carry laws. In those jurisdictions, a law abiding citizen may be denied a permit if, for instance like New York, they did demonstrate a strong reason or need to carry a weapon in public.

In addition, there are seventeen "shall issue" states, wherein the issuance of concealed carry permits occur with little to no discretion to those who meet basic qualifications. The remaining 25 states generally allow people to carry concealed weapons in most public spaces without a permit.

It's almost a certainty that this opinion will generate further litigation for any state or federal laws that are restrictive of basic 2nd Amendment gun rights. Similar laws in other states, to the one in New York decided in the instant "Bruen" case, will likely be challenged; and there are other Second Amendment cases in the pipeline that are seeking Supreme Court review of other types of restrictive gun laws, both state and federal.

It's almost a certainty that this opinion will generate further litigation.

Bi-partisan Senate Gun Bill stands just a little better chance than Biden's Gas Tax Holiday proposal of final passage

 

If the House doesn't pass the Senate "Bi-partisan Gun Bill" unchanged and quickly, it won't pass at all  ---  if the Senate Bill isn't adopted, arguably there will be difficulty sending the House and Senate Gun Bills to conference for a fix  ---  they aren't close to being alike  ---  for example, the "Red Flag" sections of the two bills are nothing alike, the House proposal is for a federal 'Red Flag" law, while the Senate's only talks about state "Red Flag" laws, initiatives, and related programs

As for the "National Gas Tax Holiday" proposed by Biden  ---  well, you know, it's just another Biden thing.....

Republicans need to know that Democrats don't need any GOP help when the Democrats are trying to kill themselves. 

Strangely, Republican leaders, especially in Washington, always seem to want to try on the noose first to see if it might fit them too.

Last year, a fracas arose between members of rival upstate biker gangs that triggered a brazen shootout at an underground private lounge in Albany that left a 29-year-old military veteran dead and six others wounded  

Albany Times-Union (ATU) coverage of various other biker crimes in the Albany area provide many leads as to the ongoing criminal activites of Joseph Brady  ---  and the multiple active investigations of those activities by law enforcement authorities  ---  all while Joseph Brady remained a top staff member for Assemblyman Peter Abbate

According to one of the Albany Times-Union's accounts of that event,  a  ".... shooting incident that rocked a neighborhood...  two blocks north of Central Avenue on the edge of West Hill [in Albany] underscored what some law enforcement officials fear could be increasing tensions between a proliferation of biker gangs that have recently formed in the region, and others that have made a resurgence....  There has been a surge in shootings and homicides in Albany over the past two years, but Saturday's melee has cast a spotlight on the intensifying relations in the region's biker underworld.... "  (See "Biker gangs focus of fatal shooting at 'illegal' Albany club" by Brendan Lyons, 10/13/2021, Albany Times-Union/  State      [https://www.timesunion.com/state/article/Biker-gangs-focus-of-fatal-shooting-at-illegal-16529730.php]).

The article went on to connect two cases involving Joseph Brady to the string of more recent ongoing mayhem among the areas bikers.

Here are the details of what the ATU article related to Joseph Brady:  

"....  A year ago, the Times Union profiled Joseph Brady, a former longtime legislative director for state Assemblyman Peter J. Abbate Jr., who was the co-founder of a chapter of the biker gang East Coast Syndicate. The Capital Region motorcycle club formed about seven years ago and has drawn the attention of law enforcement for its members' alleged drug use and violence. The group also was the focus of a homicide investigation in Saratoga County, although no one in the club was arrested in connection with that case....  Saratoga County sheriff's investigators acknowledged last year that biker club members [including Joseph Brady] were a focus of an investigation into the disappearance of a Saratoga County biker, Michael P. Ahern [ ] who was last seen on Jan. 6, 2019, nine days before he was reported missing....  In January,  Jack L. Jeffers [ ] pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the disappearance of Ahern. But police and prosecutors never recovered Ahern's remains and, in an extraordinary move, allowed Jeffers to plead guilty without providing any details as to what happened or why he was responsible for the homicide...."  

In another ATU article by Brendan Lyons from earlier in 2021,  it was noted that "....  Saratoga County sheriff's officials [ ] said that Jeffers may not have acted alone — either in causing Ahern's death or disposing of the corpse — and that others associated with the area's biker club network remain a focus of the investigation....  The sheriff said that Ahern was "shot and killed" by Jeffers. The alleged murder weapon was recovered by investigators; Jeffers had possessed the gun illegally, he added....  Despite Jeffers' admission to killing Ahern, he was charged with second-degree manslaughter rather than murder. That charge indicates that Jeffers "recklessly caused the death" of another person but the Saratoga County district attorney's office and police did not specify what triggered the killing....  'The investigation revealed, and he was charged with, having recklessly caused the death of Michael Ahern and that's the charge which was appropriate for the reckless homicide,' said District Attorney Karen A. Texas Republicans vote to say Biden's win was illegitimate --- to disavow GOP Senator Cornyn over gun talks --- and there was even a taste of secessionist talk

 
Meeting at their first in-person convention since 2018, about 5,100 Texas Republicans last Saturday passed a raft of resolutions and proposed Texas GOP platform changes to move their party even further to the right

Approved were measures declaring that President Joe Biden “was not legitimately elected”;  and rebuking Sen. John Cornyn for taking part in the current bipartisan gun control talks 

The Texas Republicans also voted in favor of a platform plank that declares homosexuality “an abnormal lifestyle choice” and calls for Texas schoolchildren “to learn about the humanity of the preborn child.”

But here is the kicker  ---  saying that the U.S. government has impaired Texas' right of self-government  ---  the Texas GOP platform calls for rejecting any legislation that conflicts with Texas' states rights —  and it urges consideration whether leaving the Union might be the only proper response to the encroachment by the Feds on the rights of Texas and Texans

The votes at the Texas GOP convention reinforced the extent to which former President Donald J. Trump’s claims of a stolen election continue to resound among the party faithful —  even after a week of televised Congressional hearings about  Trump's supporters storming the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

It's now clear that in 2022, the Texas GOP feels free to veer to the right to its heart’s content, confident that it won’t come back to haunt the party in November, except perhaps in about half dozen races. Even the party’s pragmatic center right conservatives lacked any traction arguig, as they had successfully in 2020, that an ultra conservative platform could cost the GOP its majority status in the Lone Star State. This year, even the absolute worst case scenario has the GOP winning statewide, increasing its number of U.S. House seats, boosting its Texas Senate majority by a seat, and maintaining the 83 seats it held in the 2021 Texas House.  

GOP calls on Texas to hold a referendum on seceding  

In Texas, secession is a perennial idea that tends to bloom when a Democrat holds the Oval Office.  The new Texas GOP platform reflects that and now states  ---  "Texas retains the right to secede from the United States, and the Texas Legislature should be called upon to pass a referendum consistent thereto...."  Elswhere in the document, the GOP delegates urged state lawmakers to put a referendum on the ballot for the 2023 election >>> "... for the people of Texas to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation...."  

Just how big a part Biker Joseph Brady will be in any of the State Senate campaigns, primary and general, involving Iwen Chu remains to be seen

 

One of the central points raised by Iwen Chu is that she was the long-time Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Peter Abbate  ---  However, Iwen Chu never mentions that one of the top people on the Iwen Chu-run Joseph Abbate staff was the long-time "Legislative Director for Assemblyman Abbate"  >>> one  ---  Joseph Brady <<<

That is the very same Joseph Brady that was a motor-cycle gangland guy   >>>  who has been indicted for some little stuff like rape and a gun charge  ---  while being investigated by both federal and NYS investigators for murder and other crimes  ---  and was on a NYSBI "watchlist," while he remained near the top of Assemblyman Abbate's staff being run by Iwen Chu

It's been reported that "Joseph P. Brady, the former longtime legislative director for state Assemblyman Peter J. Abbate, Jr., is a co-founder of the Capital Region chapter of a motorcycle club, East Coast Syndicate, whose members are the focus of a pending homicide investigation. That article by Brendan Lyons in the Albany Taimes-Union goes on to say that  ---  "For more than a decade, Joseph Brady was a go-to guy in the state Legislature for the leaders and lobbyists associated with New York's public sector labor unions. In his role as the longtime legislative director for state Assemblyman Peter J. Abbate Jr., Brady was the gatekeeper for the 71-year-old Brooklyn Democrat...."

That's only the tip of the iceberg.....

At the time of Brady's arrest in 2020, the matter was widely covered by the press and other media  ---  however, due to political influence by Abbate, and the way things are handled when high level legislative staffers in Albany are charged with serious crimes like rape, the Brady case has been slow-walked into oblivion by the local prosecutor in Albany.

So far, Iwen Chu has not been mentioned anywhere in the coverage of the Joseph Brady case  >>>  however, we here at this independent Repblican blog for Brooklyn and Staten Island have it on the best authority that Iwen Chu will be connected to all of this Joseph Brady stuff very soon.....

At least one of Iwen Chu's opponents mentioned above is getting ready to go at this story big time.

Given the fact that Mr. O'Hara has had a long a fruitful relationship with several newspapers including the Albany Times-Union and the NY Daily News on various other matters, it would be a good guess that he is already all over this with them and others  ---  including the current slow-walk of the charges against Mr. Brady since October 2020.

Iwen Chu won't be cakewalking to any Asian State Senate seat in Brooklyn --- but she'll try to call the tune by knocking her two Dem opponenets off the ballot

Republican Vito LaBella is getting a golden opportunity  >>>  because Iwen Chu thinks that she and only she can represent the interests of the voters in the 17th State Senate District  ---  claiming on her website that the district is over 50% Asian-American

Well, that is just a flat-out lie, based upon census tract and BOE data 

However, before we get into that  >>>  it needs to be noted that the only way that Iwen Chu was able to get into anything close to an "Asian district" was by a process of exclusion  ---  and the principal group excluded from the new 17th State Senate District were Latinos  [In fact, it required surgical precision in cutting the new Senate Districts to avoid creating a largely Latino District built around a unified Sunset Park core]  ---  And all of that was engineered by Peter Abbate in drafting the prior "new" lines for the benefit of his hand-picked candidate Iwen Chu that were thrown out by the NY State Courts 

Here's the rub  ---  in a Democrat primary in the new 17th State Senate District  ---  fewer than a quarter of the potential voters are identified as Asian, the rest are mostly what Chu might call Latinx, It-lows and other non-Asians

Two Democrats have filed petitions to oppose Iwen Chu's candidacy, Yu Lin, and John Kennedy O'Hara  >>>  and immediately Chu, Abbate, and the Democrat Machine hired high priced legal talent to remove both of those independent Democrat candidates from the ballot

You see, in Iwen Chu's mind, only she can represent a district that has any Asians in it at all  ---  even if they might be a small-voting minority in that district. 

That's especially true if the district had been cut for her to run in it by the Abbate crowd, and those that he does business with, some Democrats and some in other parties  >>> and that district was rubber-stamped by the "Special Master" chosen by a Republican Judge, who tinkered with the lines and renumbered the district, but left the Latino voters there largely disenfranchised.

However, whichever way it works out inside what looks like it will be a big Democrat Party ballot fiasco, Republican-Conservative Vito LaBella's outide chances of finding a path to victory have gotten a lot better.

FYI --- when any type of politician makes an expression like that --- it's doing foreign policy --- and right now Justin Brannan's foreign policy is hurting the people of his own district, and it is bleeding Ukraine dry in a war of attrition

Of those, 280 have been children. In addition, 5,531 people were reported to have been injured. [NOTE: the OHCHR has specified that >>> the real numbers could be higher <<<] --- Lately, Ukrainian leaders have acknowledged 100-200 soldiers KIA daily, with total casualties now at about 1000 per day

FYI --- Yesterday at N.A.T.O., the United States' top General Mark Milley seemed willing to let Ukraine fight until its last soldiers were killed on the battlefield --- along side was the U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin --- and the SecDef seemed to have no problem with that at all

We have seen things like this before in Eastern Europe. In 1939, the Soviet Union invaded the eastern third of Poland, while Nazi Germany invaded the western two-thirds of Poland. As the Russia-Ukraine conflict has morfed into a bigger war, Russia has consolidated its hold on the eastern third of Ukraine, while N.A.T.O. has largely moved into the western two-thirds of Ukraine.....

The Demo-rats are telling us that they want to focus on how Vice President Mike Pence turned on President Trump --- and stabbed President Trump in the back --- and then when the J6 demostrators heard about it --- how they became enraged, assaulted the Capitol, and occupied it

According to the MSM   ---  The January 6th Committee goes back into televised open sessions with its third public hearing starting at 1 PM on today (Thursday, June 16, 2022)......  

This time they will be honing-in on Vice President Mike Pence and his resistance to a so-called pressure campaign from President Donald Trump  >>>  to go along with an alleged scheme to overturn results of the 2020 election 

Also, the Demo-rats want to show that the January 6th demonstrators had singled-out Pence for stabbing President Trump in the back in an act of historic disloyalty and treachery

One of the first things that she did after being told that she had won was to praise the policies and programs of President Donald Trump.....  In a related matter, Elon Musk had openly supported Mayra Flores, previously saying that he had cast his first Republican vote in order to vote for her.

Mayra Flores aligned herself with pro-Trump and other conspiracy theorists during her successful special election campaign to turn a historically blue Democrat Texas congressional district Republican red.

Some extreme MSM outlets claim that Mayra Flores has promoted a QAnon conspiracy theory that maintains the United States is run by a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles who would [or still will] be brought to justice by Donald Trump. "Media Matters" has pointed out that Flores frequently added “#Q” and “#QAnon” to her social media posts, as well as “#wwg1wga,” which is shorthand for a QAnon slogan “Where We Go One, We Go All”.....

Lately, it’s not unusual for Republican congressional candidates to have pushed any number of conspiracy theories — including, of course, that the 2020 elections were fraudulent in may areas causing President Trump to lose in the "2020 big steal" by Democrats.

The Sham Investigation 

The January 6th Unselect Committee is disgracing everything we hold sacred about our Constitution. If they had any real evidence, they’d hold real hearings with equal representation. They don’t, so they use the illegally-constituted committee to put on a smoke and mirrors show for the American people, in a pitiful last-ditch effort to deceive the American public…again. 

Our Constitution protects the right to confront accusers, honors the right to fair trials, and holds the right to legal representation as paramount in our justice system. Equal representation and the opportunity to offer rebuttal evidence is fundamental in our legal process. The Committee has obliterated those rights and is making a mockery of justice. They have refused to allow their political opponents to participate in this process, and have excluded all exculpatory witnesses, and anyone who so easily points out the flaws in their story. 

MAGA witnesses were interrogated behind closed doors and ordered to not record their own testimony. Members of my staff, my friends, supporters, volunteers, donors, were subjected to hours upon hours of inquisition – oftentimes having nothing to do with January 6th. Their very lives were turned upside down for obvious reasons. They were told it was an ongoing investigation and any reproduction of the interrogation would be viewed as an attempt to interfere in the investigation. They were gagged, threatened, and in some cases ruined. 

Yet, the Unselect Pseudo-Committee has coordinated with their media puppets to broadcast their witnesses on national television without any opposition, cross-examination, or rebuttal evidence. The American public has a right to know the truth and see every witness, but these corrupt officials are trying to force-feed the public with their politically opportune sideshow. 

What are the members of this treasonous “Committee” afraid of? Why can’t they let the countervailing opinion be heard? Why are they hiding evidence from the public and only showing information that favors the Democrats’ tall tale? They’re afraid of losing the narrative, because their political opponents could easily show how the committee is lying to the nation and has stripped Americans of their rightful power. 

Democrats created the narrative of January 6th to detract from the much larger and more important truth that the 2020 Election was Rigged and Stolen. Politicians from both parties, but mostly the Democrats, worked in conjunction with corporate elitists to strip Americans of our right to elect our own leaders. To do so, corrupt officials violated their own state laws. 

The separation of powers is designed to make sure that no officials become dictators by granting the authority to make laws with the legislature and execute laws with the executive branch. No one office should have complete power. It must be separated among different offices. In 2020, separation of powers went out the window. The state executive branch, in both red and blue states, decided to completely ignore state laws, make up their own rules, and execute them. In other words, they became the little dictators our Constitution was designed to prevent.

They illegally inflated voter rolls, illegally allowed harvested and stuffed ballots, abused the use of mail-in ballots, physically removed Republicans from counting facilities, abused the elderly in nursing homes, bribed election officials with donations, stopped counting on Election Night, gave Democrats three extra days to harvest ballots, and demanded that the American people believe it was legitimate. 

This entire charade of the Unselect Committee is a brazen attempt to detract the public’s attention from the truth. The truth is that Americans showed up in Washington, D.C. in massive numbers (but seldom revealed by the press), on January 6th, 2021, to hold their elected officials accountable for the obvious signs of criminal activity throughout the Election. Those who are supposed to be public servants are using the power of government against the people who entrusted them with the power. We’ve been betrayed. 

Since the Unselect Committee refuses to allow their political opponents to participate in the hearings, the public likely won’t hear from the many patriots who contradict the lies being broadcast – at least not in these hearings. This is all a ridiculous and treasonous attempt to cover up the fact that Democrats rigged the Election and are siphoning Americans’ freedoms and power for their own benefit. 

Without the ability to have political, legal, or witness representation from conservatives in this Kangaroo Court, it’s up to American patriots to arm themselves with the information. This hearing isn’t about January 6th, it’s about November 3rd, and here’s what happened...."

Maybe, it's just a glitch --- however, the FBI arrest of Republican J6 hero Ryan Kelley has boosted his campaign for Governor of Michigan

 

Who knows whether this lurch forward in the polls ahead of other Republicans running for Governor of Michigan, and even vis a vis Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer, will hold up.  ---  However, so far, the FBI arrest of GOP candidate Ryan Kelley for J6 infractions at the Capitol has only had the effect of boosting his campaign for governor in Michigan

According to National Review  ---  after Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate, Ryan Kelley, had been arrested last week, some of his copartisans worked to gin up concern by GOP voters that the event was politically motivated by the Democrats in Michigan. Even a GOP opponent of Kelley's, Kevin Rinke, one of the Republican candidates in the August 2nd GOP Primary, tweeted that “the timing [of the Kelley arrest raised] serious questions....”  Another Michigan GOP  candidate for governor, Tudor Dixon, asked,  “Are we expected to believe the corrupt FBI [only happened to schedule] a raid on Ryan Kelley’s home [around the same time as] the J6 production in DC?...  The timing of this looks a lot like another example of political prosecution by a Democrat Party notorious for weaponizing government [law enforcement agencies]...”  (See "In Michigan, Ryan Kelley’s Arrest Hurts Governor Whitmer" by Charles Hilu, 6/10/2022,  National Review/ The Corner/ Elections    [https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/in-michigan-ryan-kelleys-arrest-hurts-governor-whitmer/]).

The National Review article went on to point out that  ---  "....  The Whitmer campaign even tried to take advantage in the immediate aftermath of the arrest. 'We’re running against fringe opponents in Michigan, and this is just the latest sign of how radical the bunch really is,'  the campaign wrote in a fundraising email. Whitmer is attempting to paint the entire Republican field as a bunch of rioters like Kelley allegedly was...."

This bungling by the Democrats' operatives inside the DOJ has boosted the GOP's chances in Michigan whether Ryan Kelley wins the August 2nd primary election or not.
