Possible breakthrough in obtaining justice for victims of sex abuse in the Roman Catholic Church

Pope issues a decree lifting the prior rule of secrecy

"Activists have called for the move to help investigators gather evidence against offenders...."
--- WSJ

This could be big.....

Here now the news.....

According to this morning's report in the Wall Street Journal:

"ROME— Pope Francis has lifted the secrecy requirement for Catholic Church documents related to priests’ sexual abuse of minors, granting a longstanding demand from activists who say it will help civil authorities gather evidence against abusers in the church....  In a decree published by the Vatican Tuesday, the pope ruled that the “pontifical secret” binding church officials to confidentiality doesn’t apply to evidence and legal proceedings regarding clerical sex abuse or its coverup....  'Office confidentiality shall not prevent the fulfillment of the obligations laid down in all places by civil laws, including any reporting obligations, and the execution of enforceable requests of civil judicial authorities,' said the decree, which Pope Francis approved earlier this month....  In an explanatory note, the president of the Vatican City State court, Giuseppe Dalla Torre, said that the lifting of the secrecy requirement applied both to the Vatican itself and to local church authorities handling abuse cases around the world....  Bishop Juan Ignacio Arrieta, of the Vatican’s office for church legislation, stressed in another note that the change didn’t apply to the seal of the confessional, which forbids priests from revealing any information transmitted in a sacramental confession, even if it pertains to sex abuse....  The lifting of the secrecy requirement has been long sought by campaigners against sex abuse in the clergy to help bring offenders to justice...."  (See "Pope Francis Removes the Secrecy Requirements for Church Documents on Child Sex Abuse"  by Francis X. Bankruptcy begins with disclosing liabilities and assets.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL" EDITION

THINGS KEEP GOING FROM BAD TO WORSE WHEN IT COMES TO ABUSIVE PRIESTS AND BISHOPS EVEN AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS --- PAPAL NUNCIO IS REMOVED FOR "HABITUAL PREDATORY BEHAVIOR" AT PUBLIC EVENTS

"The Vatican announced Tuesday that Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Archbishop Luigi Ventura, the papal nuncio to France, who has been under investigation by French authorities for sexual crimes since January 2019...." (See "Pope Francis Accepts Resignation of Nuncio Charged with Homosexual Abuse" by Thomas D. Williams, 12/17/19, Breitbart News/ Trending [https://www.breitbart.com/faith/2019/12/17/pope-francis-accepts-resignation-of-nuncio-charged-with-homosexual-abuse/]).

The article goes on to state: ".... A number of French outlets, including La Croix, France Inter, and the LGBT journal TĂȘtu published testimonials suggesting that the behavior was customary of the Vatican diplomat.... Ventura served as the Vatican’s ambassador to France for 10 years and the allegations emerged in the midst of a wave of sexual abuse accusations in the clergy as well as a book by a French journalist alleging a significant presence of actively gay priests and bishops in the Vatican.... News of the alleged abuse also followed closely on a series of reports asserting that clerical sexual abuse is overwhelmingly homosexual in nature...."

RESPONSE: THE "CATHOLIC CHURCH'S FINANCIAL SCANDALS WILL BE ALMOST AS SHOCKING AS THE PEDOPHILE STUFF" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 10:26 AM"

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS FINE LEAD.....

Here's the key passage in the item cited above: ".... From 2013 to 2017, 26 elementary, middle and high schools located in the Diocese of Brooklyn contracted with AutoExec to provide telecommunications equipment and services. At least eight schools received no equipment or services, and the remaining schools received partial, substandard or non-approved equipment and services. In total, Comito overbilled the E-rate program, and defrauded the program and schools, in the amount of approximately $426,000...."

It sure looks like somebody in the Brooklyn Diocese was looking the other way rather than being sure that money was being spent properly, and the kids were getting what had been paid for.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "PROBLEMS STILL ON SCHARFENBERGER'S PLATE OF BUFFALO WING-DINGS" EDITION

WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO ABOUT "RETIRED" BUFFALO BISHOP RICHARD MALONE.....

--- AND ---

NO "HOUSECLEANING" IN THE DIOCESE OF BUFFALO WOULD BE COMPLETE UNLESS AUXILIARY BISHOP EDWARD GROSZ ISN'T ALSO THROWN OUT ON HIS ASS

Grosz was instrumental in keeping the lid on the pedophile scandals in the Buffalo Diocese for a whole generation by bicycling pedophile priests from assignment to assignment around the diocese.

If Bishop Grosz is not on Scharfenberger's hit list, then any look of cleaning things up in the Buffalo DIocese is a complete phony. Grosz is a very bad guy, who has been openly dismissive of the entire pedophile scandal, and has been accused of personally using strong-arm tactics against pedophile victims for years.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "'BILLIONS' OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGES SUIT" EDITION

A NEWLY COMMENCED "CLASS ACTION" LAWSUIT AGAINST THE POPE IS SEEKING "BILLIONS" NOT "MILLIONS" IN DAMAGES FOR THE VICTIMS OF PRIESTLY SEXUAL ABUSE SINCE 1958 --- EXPECT THAT TO BE IN THE HIGH BILLIONS

Jeff Herman, one of the top lawyers in the cottage industry of trying to squeeze all of the money out of the Roman Catholic Church has upped the ante into the billions and has named the Pope as the chief villain and the deepest pocket around.

The case is being brought as a class action starting with at least seven named plaintiffs, whose individual cases were already settled for pennies on the dollar against the local diocese. The new and different action is in the Federal District Court in Manhattan and alleges that Pope Francis and all the popes going back to 1958 pursued a policy of secrecy that damaged all of the sex abuse victims of predatory priests.

Once a class is certified, an estimate of the full measure of damages will be clearer; and the possible creation of a super-fund to pay for the local victims of priestly sexual abuse from the income and assets of the entire Church is a real possibility.

The possible bankruptcies of the Catholic Dioceses across the United States will not impede this sort of suit, and will only be part of the overall bookkeeping.
