Fordham paper is late to the Mainstream and Catholic Press DiMarzio Feeding Frenzy --- OR --- Are they just piling on --- OR --- Is it something completely new ???

It's the same basic story that had been widely reported for weeks  ---  Mitchell Garabedian, one of the main litigators in taking down pedophile priests and the corrupt bishops that covered-for them and enabled many to become record breaking serial perps, announced his intention to sue Brooklyn's Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio pursuant to the New Jersey "lookback law" which went into effect this past week. Garabedian's case would be  on behalf of a fifty-six year old client named Mark Metzak,  claiming  that Bishop DiMarzio and the late Rev. Albert Mark sexually abused him multiple times between 1974 and 1975, while Metzak attended a Catholic school in Jersey City, NJ

There is one new element in the report by Gus Dupree, Assistant News Editor of  "The Observer  ---  The Student Voice of Fordham Lincoln Center" and it's right up front in the article's headline,  "Bishop With Ties to Fordham Accused of Sexual Assault"  ---  the story is news at Fordham,  because they say that Bishop DiMarzio has "...ties to Fordham..."  ---  as in  ---  that's a bad thing for Fordham.....

Is this a signal that Fordham University is pulling out of its deal with the schools in/of the Diocese of Brooklyn, because of the upcoming charges against DiMarzio ???

Here's the meat and potatoes about the new stuff being reported in this Fordham newspaper article:  "In May 2012, DeMarzio worked with Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education (GSE) to form the Catholic School Accreditation Association (CSAA). According to Fordham News, the CSAA is a partnership between GSE and the Diocese of Brooklyn which provides regional Catholic schools an alternative accreditation method as opposed to the Middle States Accreditation Process....  At the time, The Rev. Joseph McShane, S.J., expressed his pleasure with the partnership. 'This partnership will enable us to help one another in very significant ways,” McShane said in 2012. 'Fordham is delighted to do it, honored to do it and committed to the work.'...  In response to the allegations {against Bishop DiMarzio], Assistant Vice President for Communications Bob Howe said on behalf of the university, 'Our hearts go out to the victim: such abuse is hard to countenance or forgive, and is a terrible violation of the human spirit. We pray for the healing of this victim, and all the victims of sexual abuse.'..."  (See "Bishop With Ties to Fordham Accused of Sexual Assault" by Gus Dupree,  12/4/19,  The Observer [Fordham Lincoln Center]   [https://fordhamobserver.com/42961/news/bishop-with-ties-to-fordham-accused-of-sexual-assault/]).

Apart from seeming to prejudge DiMarzio as "guilty" before any charges or specifications in the form of a civil complaint have been filed,  this article seems to be putting Fordham University on notice that they might also be involved if anything bad happens in any Brooklyn or Queens Catholic school on Bishop DiMarzio's watch while their partnership with the Brooklyn Diocese remains in effect.

IN THE BIGGER PICTURE: THE "SCHARFENBERGER AND THE "B" WORD FOR THE BUFFALO DIOCESE" EDITION

I JUST GOT AN E-MAIL BY SOMEBODY THAT SHOULD KNOW WHAT THEY'RE SAYING AT THE "ALBANY TIMES UNION" --- AND IT'S SOMETHING ABOUT BISHOP SCHARFENBERGER LOOKING INTO BANKRUPTCY FOR THE DIOCESE OF BUFFALO

More details if and when we get them.....

RESPONSE: THE "IAN FLEMING VILLAIN'S PLAY" EDITION

SCHARFENBERGER REALLY CAN'T MAKE THE CALL ABOUT "BANKRUPTCY" HIMSELF --- UNLESS HIGHER UP THE LINE SAYS IT'S OK FOR HIM TO DO IT --- "BANKRUPTCY" MEANS TAKING A MUCH CLOSER LOOK INTO CATHOLIC CHURCH FINANCES, LIKE WHO OWNS WHAT --- RIGHT NOW, THAT PROSPECT IS A FEW YEARS OFF, "BANKRUPTCY" NOW WOULD ADVANCE THAT DAY OF RECKONING --- POPE FRANCIS KNOWS THAT'S NOT KEEPING A LID ON THINGS AT ALL, EVEN IF IT MIGHT SAVE A FEW BUCKS FOR A DIOCESE HERE OR THERE

"Bankruptcy" !!! A Bishop specially delegated as an overseer by the Pope mentioning "Bankruptcy"; that's like Le Chiffre saying "Banco" to James Bond in "Casino Royale," the novel, or "All In" in "Casino Royale," the movie.

If the Pope and/or others at the Vatican aren't pleased, this could be like loose and shifting sand under Scharf the Sand Shark. Don't forget, Bond doesn't kill Le Chiffre, an assassin sent by Le Chiffre's bosses does. Scharf the Sand Shark has to do exactly what the Great White Shark wants, or there could be hell to pay.

I disagree on the bankruptcy analysis. Toss the churches into a chapter and the auction begins. I wouldnt worry about the dandy palace guards at the Vatican.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "BUFFALO 'NOT THE FIRST BANKRUPTCY'" EDITION

THE RESIGNATION OF BUFFALO'S BISHOP MALONE THE NUMBER OF BISHOPS AND CARDINALS TO LEAVE THEIR POSTS AS HEADS OF DIOCESES OR ARCHDIOCESES IN THE USA OVER THEIR HANDLING OF THE PRIEST SEX ABUSE SCANDAL HAS RISEN TO SIX [6] DURING THE LAST FOUR [4] YEARS --- BUT, A SURVIVOR'S GROUP IS NOT SATISFIED THAT THE POPE DID NOT ISSUE A STERNER REBUKE OF BUFFALO'S BISHOP --- THE SURVIVORS' GROUP, "SNAP," ALSO CALLED FOR INCREASED SCRUTINY ON THE REMAINING NY STATE DIOCESES, CITING THE RECENT CHARGES AGAINST BROOKLYN'S BISHOP DI MARZIO

THERE WAS ALSO MORE DISCUSSION OF THE CHURCH'S "BANKRUPTCY" TACTIC TO HOLD OFF THOSE MAKING FINANCIAL CLAIMS FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE WIDESPREAD EPIDEMIC OF PRIESTLY SEX ABUSE

"The diocese of Buffalo, like its neighboring diocese of Rochester, has now felt the full effect of the Catholic Church’s roiling child sexual abuse scandal.... Buffalo Bishop Richard J. Malone, who was beset by public criticism, internal leaks and outside investigations, is leaving his post early, the Vatican announced early Wednesday.... Malone’s departure, coming just three weeks after a meeting with Pope Francis, was widely seen as a rebuke of his handling of abuse allegations.... He becomes the the sixth American bishop or cardinal in four years to leave office under the cloud of the church's on-going child sexual abuse scandal.... The degree of controversy in Buffalo was unique in New York state, and there was no immediate indication that any of New York's six other bishops or Archbishop Timothy Dolan were in jeopardy." (See "Survivor group says Pope Francis should have fired Buffalo bishop, calls for more scrutiny across New York" by Steven Orr, 12/4/19, Rochester Democrat & Chronicle [https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/2019/12/04/bishop-richard-malone-buffalo-catholic-diocese-sexual-misconduct-abuse-pope-francis/2606783001/]).

That is not all that Steven Orr reported. He also noted that ".... SNAP, an established advocacy group that supports survivors of child sexual abuse, said it welcomed Malone's departure — though executive director Zach Hiner said [he] thought it would have sent a strong signal to other bishops if [Pope] Francis had fired [Bishop] Malone rather than allow him to resign.... Hiner also said that while Malone’s may have been the most egregious case other church leaders in New York should take note.... 'It feels like the situation in Buffalo has sucked a lot of air out of the room, but it's clear that more scrutiny is needed in other dioceses too,' he said. Hiner specifically pointed to the Brooklyn diocese, where Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio has recently been accused of sexually abusing a boy many years ago...."

BANKRUPTCY COVERAGE

Steven Orr also did a good writeup on the >>> bankruptcy option <<< as follows: ".... Malone’s departure is the second major development [in New York State] since a wave of civil suits [under the NYS lookback law] alleging child sexual abuse by Catholic priests and other ministers began in August [of this year].... The first was the Rochester diocese filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Sept. 12, less than a month after the wave of litigation began.... Bishop Salvatore Matano described the move as the best way to provide financial compensation to the scores of people who have filed abuse claims against the diocese while preserving enough assets to continue the church’s public ministry.... Rochester became just the 20th Catholic diocese to choose bankruptcy reorganization as a way to deal with child sexual abuse lawsuits, and the first in New York.... Lawyers have said they expect other upstate diocese — including Buffalo — to follow suit...."

ALERT & QUERY: THE "NOW THAT YOU'RE A LITTLE MORE INFORMED ABOUT DI MARZIO" EDITION

PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A COUPLE OF "CHARITABLE NON-PROFIT" ORGANIZATIONS CALLED "OPUS BONO SACERDOTII" AND "MEN OF MELCHIZEDEK" --- THEY PROVIDE AID AND SUPPORT TO PRIESTS AND FORMER PRIESTS CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ABUSE, SOME EVEN AFTER THEY HAD BEEN CONVICTED AFTER A TRIAL OR HAVING ADMITTED TO THEIR WRONGFUL ACTS

FOR A LONG TIME, I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT BISHOP DI MARZIO'S ASSOCIATION WITH "OPUS DEI" --- THAT IS SOMETHING THAT HE SHARES WITH THE ONLY U.S. BISHOP CONVICTED OF A CRIME CONNECTED TO THE COVERUP OF SEXUAL ABUSE BY A PRIEST IN HIS DIOCESE, FORMER BISHOP ROBERT FINN

IF ANYBODY CAN HELP ME CONNECT DI MARZIO OR THE DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN TO "OBS" OR "MOM," I WOULD BE THANKFUL.....

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE "MORE FROM THE TERRIBLE DAYS WHEN DI MARZIO WAS IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF NEWARK" EDITION

REMEMBER WHERE AND WHEN NICHOLAS DI MARZIO LEARNED TO BE A PRIEST AND BISHOP --- IT WAS IN THE CESSPOOL OF WELL-PROTECTED PRIESTLY SEXUAL ABUSE, THE ARCHDIOCESE OF NEWARK, DURING THOSE LAZY, HAZY, CRAZY DAYS OF COME ON IN THE WATER'S FINE.....

Two more egregious examples of sexual abusers from the Archdiocese of Newark back in the day have been raised in NJ court filings against the Newark Archdiocese on behalf of six victims, including the Fortney sisters of Harrisburg, PA; a suit on their behalf names two priests from the Newark Archdiocese, Father Augustine Giella and Father William Dowd, both previously acknowledged as sexually predatory priests. Among other things, the lawsuit will attempt to establish a causal link between sexual abuse that happened in Harrisburg, PA, to the policies and practices resulting in the transfer of a known abuser from Newark to Harrisburg.

During discovery in litigation involving the allegations against Bishop DiMarzio concerning incidents in Jersey City, recently disclosed by Mitchell Garabedian, the team of lawyers should look into with whom among the other Newark priests accused of sexual abuse DiMarzio had significant interactions. What is known by people on the Garabedian team is that DiMarzio did participate in a support group for and among Newark priests, which included some members since disclosed as pedophiles. How broadly and how deeply DiMarzio was involved with such other charged pedophiles and abusers is a very relevant area of inquiry.
