U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara back in the news

Is the latest news about Preet Bharara more than today’s law school speech ?   —   At graduation, Bharara urges Pace Law Students to use their law degrees to do things like Fight Against Corruption in Albany

At the same time, are there preparations afoot to Arrest and Charge Another NYS Senator ?  —  Unconfirmed report that Bharara will be making another move against a New York State Senator  —  Maybe, as soon as tomorrow

Today at about 5:30 PM, the Wall Street Journal did a video presentation of Preet Bharara’s commencement address at Pace University.  Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, urged graduating law students at to fight against corruption in Albany; saying that “...  we have corrosive corruption in our state capital” but lawyers can be "solvers of problems" and "voices of progress” and  “one lawyer armed with courage and a well-drafted complaint can reverse a long standing government abuse...”

No doubt, when Mr. Bharara said  "a well-drafted complaint" he was thinking  — "... a well-drafted criminal complaint...."

A DELETED COMMENT ON THIS BLOG

At around the same time as the WSJ posting, somebody posted an un-sourced comment on this blog that hasn’t been verified by any responsible party. According to that comment, the “word on the street” was that Preet Bharara would be “moving in on” a New York State Senator tomorrow.

Clearly, the comment maker wanted the readers of this blog to leap to conclusions that this target might be somebody of special interest to independent Republicans in Brooklyn.

I will try to find out if there is anything that is more substantial than this teaser from a well-known tease.

Until then, we'll just have to sit tight and see what happens next.

UPDATE & BACKFILL: THE “NO REAL NEWS” EDITION

SO FAR, THIS WHOLE EPISODE LOOKS LIKE WE’RE SITTING ON A DRY WELL

Other than removing two additional comments (now it’s three [3]) believed to be from the original problematic comment maker, there is nothing to report on the on the original item posted above.

In the second deleted comment, the original comment maker attempted to self-verify the original deleted comment, reported in my original post above, by claiming that its “source” was three separate individuals, whose identities and basis for reliability were not provided by the comment maker. There was also some ranting by the comment maker about other matters....

The third deleted comment was some scheduling information about a NYS State Senator from Brooklyn and a snarky remark that Preet Bharara could find the state senator at the event.

Isn't it a public service to let Preet know where he is, in case he needs to ... talk with The Senator?

RESPONSE: THE "ALL THE CRAZIES GOT DAY PASSES" EDITION

OMG --- IT'S LIKE FEEDING TIME AT THE ZOO

EVERYBODY TAKE A DEEP BREATH

At least one NY State Senator from Brooklyn is carrying on as if everything is OK.

State Senator Martin Golden, in a statement, re-affirmed his support for mayoral control of New York City schools, [Golden, on Twitter, says he endorses three or more years for extending mayoral control] (See "Golden Affirms Support For Mayoral Control In NYC [Updated]" by Nick Reisman, 5/21/15, NY State of Politics [http://www.nystateofpolitics.com/2015/05/golden-affirms-support-for-mayoral-control-in-nyc/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter]).

Here is NYSS Golden's original statement on the matter: "In my days in the New York City Council, I worked with students, teachers and families under a system governed by the Board of Education,” Golden said in a statement. “And now as a New York State Senator, I continue to address the needs of my schools and my students under a system of mayoral control. Confidently, I can tell you that the system has and continues to work better since mayoral control was enacted, and I am proud to support this renewal.”

I doubt that Preet Bharara will be needing any public service announcements about Mr. Golden's whereabouts based on any leads to this blog; but then again, "... Nothing is a sure bet...."
