A real story from this past weekend --- The ACTIVE candidates, who were out there working for it, got a little bit of real coverage in “EARNED MEDIA”

----  While others only seemed to be waiting around for what’s at the  End of the Rainbow

Capano, McCabe & Brannan get an earned media boost from the “Kings County Politics” blog for talking on the issues  ---  others take a pass

Some candidates are doing “early campaigning”  ---  and others, like Abbate  & Quaglione, seem to be content with their “entitlement” approach,   just wishing & waiting for their >>> GREAT COME AND GET IT DAY.<<<

Lately, all the buzz has been about fund raisers, fundraising, possible matching funds and the filings by the 2017 City Council campaigns of their March 2017 disclosures.   That’s why, Stephen Witt’s weekend piece on the KCP blog about Bob Capano, Will/Liam McCabe and Justin Brannan was such a breath of fresh air.

CAPANO,  MC CABE AND BRANNAN

As told in the Kings County Politics piece:   Capano talked about waste and bad resource allocation in the City Hospitals;  Brannan was a little closer to home and every Bay Ridgeites’  pocketbook,  demamding answers from the MTA about R-train subway service and how the MTA justifies the coming rate increases;  and Mr. McCabe has been discussing how illegal home conversions into multi-family units  place financial and other burdens on neighboring residents and the entire infrastructure throughout the Council District where he is running   (See  “Capano, Brannan, McCabe Talk Issues”  by Stephen Witt,  3/11/17,  Kings County Politics/ Notes From The Campaign Desk   [http://www.kingscountypolitics.com/capano-brannan-mccabe-talk-issues/]).

QUAGLIONE AND  ABBATE

Meanwhile a couple  of the other  >>> ANNOUNCED  CANDIDATES <<<  seemed content to sit on their ….  LAURELS…..   For some reason these  >>> LEGACY CANDIDATES <<<  named Peter Abbate and John Quaglione are approaching this City Council race with some sense of  >>> ENTITLEMENT <<<  as if spending years and years on a public payroll is reason enough for people to vote for them to spend even more years on a bigger public payroll.   You see if either the Republican John Quaglione or the Democrat Peter Abbate were to get elected, the would get an immediate bump in their base public employee salaries  ----  and here’s the kicker  ---   after a few years,  if either  Quaglione or Abbate were to be elected to the City Council,  the would get a huge increase to their pensions  >>>  ESPECIALLY ASSEMBLYMAN ABBATE (many are saying that’s his only reason to be running for the Council).

  1. UPDATE: THE "THIS BETTER BE IMPORTANT" EDITION

MY SOURCE WITH THE MC CABE CAMPAIGN CALLED ME AT HOME A FEW MINUTES AGO --- I SAID, "THIS BETTER BE IMPORTANT, I'M WATCHING 'TWO BROKE GIRLS'..." --- WELL, IT WAS.....

MC CABE WAS THE FUSTIST... MAYBE, HE'S GOT THE MOSTIST.....

The NYCCFB filing for "Liam A. McCabe" showed $45,250.00 from a gross number of 369 donors..... (I do believe that's the filing for Will/Liam McCabe.)

I didn't double check-check (just a little-little joke) for donations from the candidate himself, businesses, out-of-district, out-of-city or out-of-state donors or the like; however my source did assure me that Mr. McCabe did qualify for his pre-primary matching funds.

  2. Hey, Gaily, you should add that Liam's filing also shows some fairly large donations from several important Republicans and Conservatives or their family members.

  4. Can you imagine the frost in Marty G office if Quaglione has figured out kassar is burying him for McCabe??

  5. I'm sure that by now Q has figured out that Q is the last person to figure it out.

  6. most of liam's money is from liam himself or his girlfriend's mom. most of it is from staten island. just wait until capano and qualione file. then we will see what separates the men from the boys. 45,000 is impressive but it's a long way from $82,000 which is the maximum a candidate can raise for a counsel race.

  7. is fredo, i mean quag, getting endorsed by the DMV ticket quota department?

  8. Say what you will, but this is impressive fundraising from Liam. Of the three Republicans, he had the least well developed network of donors. Q has many of the Golden loyalists who can raise a couple of hundred thousand in one night, and Bob has Cats who's been known to raise tens of thousands by making a couple of phone calls to friends. It's time for the other two to put up or shut up.

  9. ha ha ha ha to comment above. marty is going to raise money for the guy who runs the copy machine. marty takes care of marty. and cats cant raise a nickel. he gives money and that maxed out at 2k.

  10. Now, that's not fair. Does anybody know for sure who in State Senator Martin Golden's district office actually knows how to run the copy machine?

  11. If the amount Liam raised is really over $42,000 then lets see what the other fringe candidates raised.

  12. You are comparing mccabes amount against no other disclosures. Bob Capano will come in with more money.

    You'll see.

  15. The lawyers and accountants at the Campaign Finance Board may not not know anything about politics, but they have great forensic skills. Messing around with dates on checks is going to get somebody in a lot of trouble.

As Johhny Q says a little whiteout never killed anybody

  17. 8:59 AM, you don't know what you're talking about --- try drinking it straight; and everybody knows that many people have died from incidents involving whiteout on the roads.

  18. To 12:09 Cats is one of the biggest political bundlers in the Country well known fact in politics, he's not good friends with Mitt Romney and Bill Clinton because they all like to play cards together. Many of Golden's key people backing Q, they have been known to raise massive amounts of money for Golden, Q should be able to raise money.

  19. Well its noon and Bob has not sent out any press releases. I get the feeling he came up short. No pun intended. Notice how the council candidates reflect the people they work for.

1- Quaglione, like Marty, is a winner as long as nobody runs against him.

2- Capano, like Castimides, lacks any purpose for being there. The 5 cent bag issue is not exactly a game changer unless you work in a supermarket.

3- McCabe, like Donovan, is the one who comes out on top.

  20. Even if John Q raises less than McCabe and Capano it does not matter. .its still way early to do anything and money can come quickly

  21. UPDATE: THE “EARLY LEADS BY MC CABE & BRANNAN” EDITION

THOSE CANDIDATES THAT CHOSE TO DO SOME EARLY HEAVYLIFTING AND SHOW SOME DECENT NUMBERS IN THEIR FIRST FILINGS WITH THE NYCCFB, CONTINUE TO BE REWARDED BY THE “OOHS” & “AHS” OF THE GALLERY --- ALL THE OTHERS SHOW THAT >>> THEY <<< STILL HAVE SOME WORK TO DO

As of 4:00 PM today, the data base at the NYC Campaign Finance Board website shows --- For Republicans: Liam McCabe STILL IN THE LEAD AMONG REPUBLICANS with $45,420, up a hair from his EARLIER REPORTED $45,250; Bob Capano with $11,367, a number from the prior reporting period; John Quaglione with $0.00, but registered in the matching funds program --- For Democrats: Justin Brannan with $57,385, a number from the prior reporting period; Kevin Peter Carroll with $0.00, but registered in the matching funds program; Nancy Tong with $4,170, with all the donations collected during a period from mid-February through early March; Khader El-Yateem with $0.00, but registered in the matching funds program; and Peter Abbate with no listing in the NYCCFB data base.

  22. Whatever these numbers show you can rest assured Marty Golden will not let Quaglione lose to Obrien and McCabe

  23. UPDATE & A STORY IS HATCHING: THE "TALES OUT OF SCHOOL" EDITION

IGNORANCE IS BLISS --- UNTIL SOMEBODY BLABS THE WRONG STUFF TO THE WRONG PERSON

SOME OF LIAM'S INSIDERS, OR AT LEAST ONE OF THEM, DESCRIBED A "FUND RAISING" TECHNIQUE THAT INVOLVES A KIND OF LAUNDERING --- WHAT SANE PERSON WOULD TALK ABOUT THAT WITHOUT EVEN THINKING IT MIGHT HURT WILL/LIAM PERSONALLY OR HIS CAMPAIGN

OMG --- THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING.....

A little birdie told me that one of Will/Liam's peeps just chirped and chirped about egg-money from here hatching into little checkadies from there.

  24. Looks like Bob raised very little money so far according to his filing. Around of 11,000 of which almost none is maychable. Few contributors. Mccabe raised 46 k. Looks like he maxed out already on matchable. Brannan only Dem with an real money 55 k. Also maxed out. Quaglion filing not in yet.

Abbate had not filed anything either.

  25. I heard the Arab Priest will come in with big numbers. Arab oil money. I heard he is not taking matching funds and will raise 500K. Brannan has about 75K. Carroll will come in with around 20K but I don't see how he can raise much more than that. Nancy Chung has $5K. No idea why she is running. I think Quaglione will win this thing
