After emphasizing that he is not in direct competition with Justin Brannan --- Bob Capano turns around and goes after >>> Justin Brannan
“CAPANO SLAMS DEM CANDIDATE BRANNAN FOR GOING TO
WORK FOR GENTILE AFTER HE LEAVES DE BLASIO TO RUN FOR COUNCIL” -- Bob Capano
E-mail press release
BACKGROUND
Lately, there has been a lot of back and forth about
Bob Capano’s fund raising effort showing relative weakness ---
especially when compared to the very big haul by Democrat Justin Brannan
in his early fundraising.
Some commenters had been quick to point out, in
defense of Mr. Capano, that comparisons
to Mr. Brannan’s fundraising were not apt, because Bob Capano was not yet in
direct competition with Justin Brannan;
and that Brannan was gearing up for his own possibly difficult primary
fight with people like Peter Abbate and Kevin Peter Carroll, and even some other notable Democrats from
the Asian and Arab communities. These
Capano supporters argued that before any race against an, as yet unidentified,
Democratic Party nominee, Capano was in his own intra-party fight with
Republicans John Quaglione and Will/Liam McCabe; as a result, any fair fund raising
comparisons should only be vis a vis Capano’s Republican opponents.
CAPANO SHIFTS HIS AIM AWAY FROM REPUBLICAN PRIMARY ADVERSARIES AND TOWARD A SINGLE DEMOCRAT IN A LARGER FIELD OF DEMOCRATS
Capano’s latest press release targeted Democrat Justin
Brannan with stuff like this: “CAPANO
SLAMS DEM CANDIDATE BRANNAN FOR GOING TO WORK FOR GENTILE AFTER HE LEAVES DE
BLASIO TO RUN FOR COUNCIL…. CAPANO: ‘THIS
IS EXACTLY WHY VOTERS ARE TIRED OF POLITICAL INSIDERS’ ”
Here are the
guts of the Capano attack on Brannan: “…. Today, Bob Capano, the leading
Republican candidate for Brooklyn's 43rd Council District (Bay Ridge, Dyker
Heights, Bensonhurst) and staunch supporter of the NYPD, slammed Democratic
candidate Justin Brannan for quietly taking a job in the office of Councilman
Vincent Gentile shortly after he left a patronage position with Mayor de
Blasio. Councilman Gentile is term limited out of office this year…. Capano, a Bay Ridge resident who manages a
business in the private sector stated, ‘This is exactly why voters are tired of
political insiders like Justin Brannan. I am not sure if Mr. Brannan left his
position with Mayor de Blasio voluntarily because he understood the political
risks of being associated so closely with his mentor, or if he was forced to
leave because he was running his campaign from City Hall on the taxpayers'
dime. Either way, you do not have to be a rocket scientist to know that Gentile
gave Brannan a wonderful Valentine's gift by allowing him to continue to
collect a government salary while he campaigns. The councilman's office should
be used to help constituents, not serve as a launching pad for a political
campaign.’… According to a Facebook
post by the Commodore Barry Club of Brooklyn, on February 6, 2017 ‘Justin Brannan, Director of Communications
and Legislative Affairs for Councilman Gentile, installed the Commodore Barry
Club Officers for 2017.'..."
CAPANO’S LATEST RELEASE STEPS ON HIS PRIOR DEFENSES AND REVIVES THE NEGATIVE IMPLICATION THAT BRANNAN IS WAY AHEAD OF CAPANO – AT LEAST WHEN IT COMES TO $$$$ IN THE BANK
One
Republican wag recently went down a laundry list of problems that he saw with
the early campaign of Bob Capano. At
the top of his list was a lack of a recognizable strategy as to how to obtain
the GOP nomination and then win in November against whomever the Democrats
choose as their candidate Close behind
that was his strong belief that Bob Capano had made a big mistake by not emphasizing
fund raising in his early campaign --- specifically that wag mentioned the negative
aspect of any comparison of Capano’s early fund raising to that of Justin
Brannan.
By
shifting his campaign’s focus to Brannan,
Capano has only succeeded in re-shifting EVERYBODIES’ attention to direct
comparisons of Capano and Brannan.
Without getting too far into the weeds on this, to date it appears that Justin Brannan has
raised about five times (5X) the money raised by Bob Capano. Equally important, Brannan’s donations are largely small and
local --- easily qualifying for the big multiplier of “matching
funds.” So far, Bob hasn’t reached that plateau (and he has
repeatedly assured some of his more skeptical supporters that he will easily
reach that level in his >>>NEXT<<< round of fund raising).
So
far we can only compare what Brannan has done already with stuff that Bob
promises that he will get done some time in the future.
Capano's braintrust -- Moe, Larry and Curly -- have outdone themselves this time.
ReplyDeleteAny GOP candidate will face an up hill battle but diblasio will be a drag on any democrat. By November President Pence will be popular.
ReplyDeleteI say God Bless anybody who has such a charmed life that a 5¢ plastic bag fee is the biggest most massive issue for them in the world right now
ReplyDeleteLittle Bobby C is guilty of some real hypocrisy in all of this. #1 Bob Capano has had more than his fair share of openly insider political jobs over the years. #2 Bob Capano now has a not so secret under the table political job for his boss John Catsimatidis. I heard that somebody is going to be investigating that political activity as an undeclared political $$$$ to either or both Capano and-or Catsimatidis and as a misuse of corporate $$$$.

ReplyDeleteGail, how did you miss this Liam McCabe post on facebook @Liam for City Council, https://www.facebook.com/BkLiam/?

Liam for City Council
My friends, some of you may not know this so I wanted to be very clear. When I announced my candidacy for City Council I also officially resigned my position from Congressman Dan Donovan's office. I have the utmost respect for the Congressman and the integrity of his office and while I may have been able to stay on staff and run for public office - the Congressman and I believed that to avoid any conflict of interest I should resign. I gave up a job I love and the benefits that came with it because I am truly committed to this race and because I believe as Councilman I can do even more. Aside from avoiding any conflicts of interest that exist between running for public office while on the tax payer funded staff of an elected official there is another more important reason..
Independence.
I wanted to be free to express my positions on the issues that this community cares about without concern over whether they line up with my principal. I wanted to be able to publicly disagree with the Congressman if we shared differing opinions.
That is why I am calling on my fellow candidates for the 43 Council District that currently work for elected officials to be clear to the voters as to when and if they plan to resign from their tax payer positions as staff members to local elected officials. This includes:
John Qualione - New York State Senate
Kevin Peter Carroll - New York City Council
Nancy Tong - New York State Assembly
I would also like to mention Justin Brannan who I commend for leaving his job with Mayor Bill DiBlasio to run for the City Council seat as was publicly stated. However I have heard that Justin has quietly retaken a position at Councilman Gentile's office while he campaigns for his bosses job. I find it strange that Councilman Gentile would hire someone who is currently raising money for the the very same office. If this is true, I ask that Mr. Brannan also make his intentions known as well.
______________
If you would have reported on this, you could have shown that Liam actually beat Little Bobby Capano to the punch on this issue.
Plus since you wanted to bash Little Bobby for his bad “STATEEGERY” as you call it – you could have said that he was tricked or forced into making his bad move by Liam McCabe’s earlier Facebook posting about Brannan.
Boy, and how did Liam beat Capano to the punch on Brannan's new job! And yesterday, somebody said Capano has a better street operation than Liam. That's BS. I haven't seen anything about Bob anywhere in Brooklyn, maybe his street operation is lost somewhere on Staten Island.
ReplyDeleteJustin & diBlazio are both cut from the same quilt. Taxpayers subsidize them and all the good progressive deeds they do.
ReplyDeleteJB will do anything to help the people of bay ridge as long as he gets a buck out of it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a disgruntled GOP wag/consultant who is not on capanos payroll..
ReplyDeleteMaybe GO will change his tune after next filing when $$ to be had
One thing for sure. In the primary Capano comes in third place.
ReplyDeleteWord is GO gave up on the Bay Ridge race because Capano wants to rely on his employer for donations, and Liam wants to run an amateur campaign. He's working for a GOP candidate in another district with 100 donations and $25k already raised. That's more than Capano, Liam and Q combined.
ReplyDeletenext week my friend, and, your friend, John Gangemi will be entering the dem contest. Abbate is out.
ReplyDeleteGangemi played this thing perfectly. He timed it so Mega, DiCarlo, Arculeo, and Starace would all lay low.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the Kings County GOP Coalition and who if anybody is behind it? The invitations to Bob Capano's fund raiser tells everybody to join Curtis Sliwa & The Kings County GOP Coalition. I think I know who Curtis Sliwa is, but is 'The Kings County GOP Coalition' some kind of new rump group?
ReplyDeleteKCGOPC is Eaton's last gasp effort. Only thing to make this race more of a complete train wreck for Republicans is if Q, Liam and Bob all hired Big Gene as their election lawyer. Gangemi would be the only one on ballot in the fall.
ReplyDeletePeople are starting to miss Big G.
ReplyDeleteHow does he still have a license?
ReplyDeleteI like Capano for City Council. It would be nice to have a third Republican from Staten Island on the Council, fighting for scraps from whichever leftist is the new Speaker.
ReplyDeleteOur next Councilman from Staten Island to be more attentive to Brooklyn's needs. Borelli and Matteo completely ignore Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst. YOU NEVER SEE THEM IN BROOKLYN.
ReplyDeleteI don't live in the Gentile council district, but I want my councilman to be from Staten Island.
ReplyDeleteHow can we get more Staten Islanders to run for office here in Brooklyn?
Who is this 'Big G' that we're all supposed to be missing? Is it our venerable friend Gangemi or the lovable lug Gene?
ReplyDeleteDoes either Gangemi or Gene live on Staten Island? If not, I won't support them running for City Council in Brooklyn. We have to have standards.
ReplyDelete"Robbers caught on camera stealing pain pills from Brooklyn supermarket "
ReplyDeleteIf that neighborhood had a Councilman from Staten Island, this crime would never have occurred.

I like Quaglione, but he doesn't live on Staten Island. How can anyone vote for someone like him?
ReplyDeleteJustin, Liam, Abbate, Kevin and the rest won't be taken seriously until they move to Staten Island. That's not fair, it's just politics.
ReplyDeleteJohn F Gangemi lives in Brooklyn. Dyker Heights to be more specific. And he actually lives in the Council District with expeirience as a former councilmember from 1973 to 1977. A seasoned man, and, a handsome man.
ReplyDeleteBUT HE'S APPARENTLY NOT FROM STATEN ISLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow can you expect him to serve? Some people ....
The few remaining real Americans in Bay Ridge would probably better served by somebody from Staten Island with real Staten Island American values than the clear and present danger crowd that the Democrats pander to in our once great neighborhood. Liam, who doesn't live in Staten Island yet, said it the best, 'This isn't the Bay Ridge that I grew up in.'
ReplyDeleteI, __________________________________________ do hereby state that I am a resident of the
ReplyDelete(insert name here)
43rd Council District, comprising the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst and Fort
Hamilton. I further state and attest that I will NOT vote for any candidate for the
City Council in my district this year, unless he or she is a resident of Staten Island.

The great American, Dennis McMahon, pointed out the decline in Bay Ridge back in the 1960's. Back then he said everywhere you looked you saw foreigners that came from places different from where our parents came from.
ReplyDeleteBay Ridge already has a Staten Island Congressman (Donovan).
ReplyDeleteBay Ridge already has a Staten Island Assembly Member (Malliotakis).
It's about time Bay Ridge had a Staten Island Councilman (Capano).
How much will mccabe raise at hos event march 6?? Bets
ReplyDeleteRESPONSE: THE “REMINDING ME OF MY PROMETHEAN ASPIRATIONS” EDITION
ReplyDeleteTO: “ANONYMOUS SAID… AT 1:46 PM”
I’D RATHER BE CHAINED TO A ROCK AND HAVE THE BIRDS PICK AT MY LIVER
Well, Gladys, since you mentioned my “Staten Island Congressman” --- I just got a recorded (800)-number message from my congressman from way out West, Dan Donovan. It was about as personal as you can get in a recorded message; and it exhorted me to participate in a “live” conference call “Town Hall” that was about to begin shortly.
As appealing as Dan Donovan’s message was, I immediately pictured myself chained to a rock and being picked at by birds. As terrifying as that image is to me, because I so closely identify with Prometheus; I would submit more willingly to being chained with crows and buzzards abusing my liver -- even more than I have done already with single malt Scotch and blended Irish (“whisky” and “whiskey,” respectively) -- than I would voluntarily participate in a Dan Donovan Town Hall, live, by phone or any other way.
If GO is really working for someone who raised about $25G, I guess that candidate has about $5,000 left with Gerry's fees...I hear a birdie will be warning this candidate.
ReplyDelete5:06 sounds awfully jealous of Gerry.
ReplyDeleteAt least whoever is paying Gerry whatever amount he is able to raise enough money not to have to use the Larry Mo and Curly advising Capano that he should be thrilled to have raised 1/5 of what Brannan raised.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 12:23. At least I think I do.
ReplyDeleteIs Big Gene still practicing law? If he is, maybe he'll get it right one day.
