HISTORIC MOMENT --- For the first time ever, a majority of the Members-elect of the U.S. House of Representatives have voted in favor of a Black American to be the Speaker of the House

Hakeem Jeffries* the Democrat "Minority Leader" of House Democrats received  212 votes  ---  and Freshman Florida Republican Byron Donalds received 20 votes

The first vote to shift away from GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy yesterday  ---  Representative-elect Donalds  ---  becomes the new face of GOP opposition to Kevin McCarthy as Speaker on the first vote of "Day Two" in the voting for Speaker of the House in the 2023-2024 session of Congress

Apparently still the controlling majority in the House  ---  Republicans remain in disarray  ---  McCarthy only garners 201 votes in fourth vote in the House for Speaker

Former GOP President Donald Trump's endorsement of Kevin McCarthy to be Speaker  >>>  moves no votes into McCarthy's column  ---  in fact, McCarthy lost an additional vote that shifted away from "McCarthy" to "present"

_____________

* As an item of personal disclosure  ---  Hakeem Jeffries was a personal associate with our chief contributor's deceased wife  ---  he and she had met four times at her office in Bay Ridge, and other times in Albany related to matters associated with real estate legislation relevant to her real estate business and professional duties.....
