The first shoe formally drops on the growing Lester Chang scandal --- will this become something bigger than a question of eligibility and residency ???

The NYS Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has referred the matter to the Assembly's Judicicary Committee to investigate and report;  and formally warned the Republican Minority Leader William Barclay that a potential member of the Republican minority caucus, Asssemblyman-Elect Lester Chang from Brooklyn's 49th AD, may not be allowed to sit as a member of the NYS Assembly

Thus far, the relative silence from Lester Chang  ---  as well as those functionaries of the Brooklyn GOP and Conservative Party responsible for filing the petitions containing Lester Chang's name with his purported Brooklyn address at 1015 East 29th Street, Brooklyn 11210 listed upon them  ---  seems quite ominous.....

Thus far there has been no indication that the Brooklyn or Albany DA might be investigating these matters for what clearly appears to have possibly involved several criminal acts by several people

Here's Assembly Speaker Hastie's formal statement:

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:...  December 2, 2022...  Statement from Speaker Carl Heastie....  Credible and serious questions have been raised regarding the status of Assemblymember-elect Lester Chang’s eligibility to assume office given the residency requirements for service in the New York State Assembly as established in Article III, §7 of the New York State Constitution. The New York State Constitution is very clear:...  § 7. No person shall serve as a member of the legislature unless he or she is a citizen of the United States and has been a resident of the state of New York for five years, and, except as hereinafter otherwise prescribed, of the assembly or senate district for the twelve months immediately preceding his or her election; if elected a senator or member of assembly at the first election next ensuing after a readjustment or alteration of the senate or assembly districts becomes effective, a person to be eligible to serve as such, must have been a resident of the county in which the senate or assembly district is contained for the twelve months immediately preceding his or her election....  We have an obligation to ensure that all members adhere to these constitutional residency requirements. I have spoken to Minority Leader Barclay and have notified him that I am directing the Assembly Judiciary Committee, under the leadership of Chair Charles D. Lavine, to begin a review and to complete its work by the end of the month. The completed review will be forwarded to the new Assembly for consideration when it convenes in January...."   [https://nyassembly.gov/Press/?sec=story&story=104067]

  1. Did Gorra even ask where this guy lived before he endorsed him?

  2. I heard that investigations may be starting very soon against the Brooklyn GOP and Brooklyn Conse Party relating to the petitioning in the Chang District

  3. So it's Carl Heastie that decides who represents us.

  4. Jerry and Lester and Ted could end this charade very easy by just proving Lester lives in Brooklyn

  5. 1147, grow up! Surely, you know that in the Assembly Chamber in Albany, "[I]t's Carl Heastie that decides who represents us." Who did YOU think decided that?

  6. I am grown up. And dont call me Shirley. My name is Hazel.

  7. So far, the only proof that Chang, the Brooklyn GOP, and Minority Leader Barclay have provided is some vintage whine that these proceedings to un- or de-seat Chang in the NYS Assembly aren't right.

On the other hand, the DMV records for Lester Chang showed that his residence was in Manhattan on election day 2022. Election day 2022 was when the voters of the 49th Assembly District mistakenly voted for Chang, because he, the Brooklyn GOP and Conservative Party falsely claimed that he lived in Brooklyn.

Do you know what that's called?

It is called evidence. And it is evidence of a lot of things.

Because Manhattanite Chang's name was on filed petitions for the Republican and Conservative Parties in Brooklyn, and as a result Chang's name wound up on the official BOE ballot in Brooklyn, some of those things are very likely acts of criminal political corruption that need to be fully investigated in due course.

  8. Nobody gets prosecuted over residence.

  9. I hear that the Brooklyn GOP and Conservative Parties are now under investigation due to election fraud - running a Manhattan resident in Brooklyn, and certifying on their official petitions that Chang was a Brooklyn resident. Dont they even check these things before running a candidate? Guess not

They would sure have fun with Ghorra in an orange jumpsuit - dont you think?

  10. To be qualified one must be a resident and a citizen.

  11. 1238, that's the way it used to be before Republicanism became illegal and un-American. Now the slightest infraction means hard time.

  12. Former Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Aiken Hynes lived in Breezy Point Queens. Peter Abbate had no problem with that.

  13. Community Activist, Entrepreneur, Cause Advocate, Educator, GOP Activist, and former power-broker and NY GOP District Leader Avery Pereira is prepping for a run against Boss Brannan

  14. AH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HARDY-HAR-HAR-HAR-HAH! Somebody thinks that a very nice man wearing glasses and named "A-V-E-R-Y" is going to take on Boss Brannan.

Well, this very nice man "Avery" thinks that the closing down of "Phantom of the Opera" after a thirty-something year run is a mini-tragedy. That's just the kind of common touch with the man in the street that the Brooklyn GOP needs from its 2023 candidate against Brannan.

  15. Today Avery was helping children at the 68th pct council toys for tots. People never heard of justin in the new council district.

  16. Everywhere I go people are talking about how Nicholas Chamberas will save our state

  18. Hmmmm! So, during late 2022 the GOP field for 2023 will include these great power packed, power lifting, and power punching plenipotent political pugilists: Brian Fox; Mike Ragusa; Nick Chamberas; and now Avery Pereire.

    Very impressive!

  19. It’s sad that Bob Capano still posts on here after he moved so far away. Maybe he should come back and run for council, while we say that as a joke I’m sure it’s crossed his mind.

  20. Daily News has an editorial today about County dem chair Biochete and her husband with residences in 2 different assembly districts so he could be a district leader and her in the assembly.

  21. Brian Fox, Mikey Ragusa, Nicolas Chamberas and Avery Pereira in a bloody battle for who can loose to Boss Brannan! Put it on Pay Per View!

  22. I just saw Avery Pereira and Nicholas Chamberas having a meeting at the Bridgeview Diner... The plot thickens

  23. "Community Activist"? "Entrepreneur"? "Cause Advocate" (wut??)? "Educator"? and a "former ..."?
    Oh, please.

  24. Nicholas Chamberas has proven he is not afraid to lock horns with Boss Brannan on social media. Nicholas Chamberas is the leader we need.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yea Justin is a total lock to get re-elected. Keep repeating it like a mantra. But even Justin can read the writing on the wall. Frontus lost and Abbate lost in solid Dem areas. Both of them were more liked than Justin. Tick tock “boss” Brannan.

  26. 242, what is the point of fake news like that?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ari Kagan has left the dems to join the GOP. Brannen knows what that means.

  28. is Chambareas connected to Chambles?

  29. RESPONSE: THE "CART IN FRONT OF THE DONKEY" EDITION

TO: "ANONYMOUS SAID... AT 10:29 PM"

THE KAGAN >>> REPUBLICAN BOMBSHELL HASN'T GONE OFF YET --- NO ANNOUNCEMENT HAS BEEN MADE ABOUT THAT

HOWEVER, THINGS COULD GET VERY INTERESTING VERY QUICKLY FOR JUSTIN BRANNAN AND TED GHORRA, AND VERY DISINTERESTING FOR EXACTLY THE SAME REASONS FOR BRIAN FOX AND SEVERAL OTHER GOP WANNABEES THAT SAID THEY WANTED TO TO RUN AGAINST BRANNAN IN 2023

We sure do seem to live in interesting times..... But for now, don't hitch any carts in front of "Dominick the Donkey"....

  30. The last time the Assembly refused to seat someone was 100 years ago. In 1920 socialists were the targets and when elected they had to be stopped. Now the Chinese are the target.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ari cut a deal with Ghorra. In exchange for becoming a Republican, the Brooklyn GOP will support Ari in the primary next June. This leaves Fox, Ragusa, Chamberas and Avery out in the cold. Ted Ghorra is back! He is a genius!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Score another victory for Ted with Kagan. 2022 will go down in history as the best year for the brooklyn GOP. Ted has pushed aside the losers and brought the real GOP to the finish line even after the election. Nick and others were instrumental but brooklyn only has one chairperson.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Lets deny everything like Kagan joining GOP and Brannen defunding the police.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Kagan move is interesting. The GOP ethnic base forming in South Brooklyn where ethnicity trumps party loyalty.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ghorra is no genius. He is selling out our party to the Dems and they are laughing every day. We keep taking their losers and they use our seat but will never adopt our values.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ghorra wins again..Eaton who?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mike Ragusa blew his top today when he heard the new about Ari KING Kagan coming to town

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ted keeps bringing Dems because in 6 years he has failed to bring on new young republicans who can win and must take the loser Dems onto our ticket. Look at the embarrassment he has brought to the broolkyn gop with the Chang fiasco. He is a dope not a hero

    ReplyDelete
  39. Fox was pushed out this year by the pilot. Big mistake Fox made getting 19%. It proves anyone can beat Brannen.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 893, there is no Republican seats in Brooklyn, only some former Democrat seats now held by former Democrats turned Republican.

Chang might have been the first, except he ain't allowed to do what he tried to do.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kagan has a cakewalk in the new district.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anybody that thinks Ari Kagan is good neews for anybody in the current Brooklyn GOP, doesn't know Kagan's history as a Democrat.

Wait until Ari Kagan starts making more demands on the GOP, and then wants to take it over completely; don't worry, it won't be a long wait at all.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh come on you rubes, Ari ain’t doing nothing in the GOP. He’s gonna laugh all the way back to the Democrats party win or lose.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ari, Alek....Ghorra dont you have any GOP candidates who share OUR values?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ghorra just keeps winning

    ReplyDelete
  46. Justin crying in public "why didnt he run against me in a primary" just screams out that the defunding the police issue will kill him in an election.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 942, what ARE "OUR values"

    ReplyDelete
  48. OUR values are the values of any candidate, Dem or Rep who wants to run on our line and idiot Ggorra thinks can win. He is so desperate to declare victory he doesn’t care who or how that happens. Disgraceful
